Dahenjo-Maro: Death of Nation, Birth of Rebellion

Dahenjo-Maro
05-02-2005, 08:23
When a storm cloud passes overhead, some people thrust their fingers in their ears to block out the noise of thunder. With every flash of lightning they walk a few steps; but when darkness returns, their eyes are so dazzled that they can see nothing—and thus they stand still. Hypocrites are like such people; their hearts are afraid, and their minds are blind. If God wanted, he could take away their sight and hearing; he has power over all things.
- Qur'an, Al-Baqara, Surah 2:19

There was no border. Only land.

Power was taken from the rusted machete, the smoking barrel. It was not as much chaos as a seamless order of events that did not match, as the mob rule shifted the land between the countless factions, the countless ideologies.

It was civil war as usual, in Africa.

Fall and Insurrection

http://www.chevrontexaco.com/news/publications/4thQ2003/images/angola_streets.jpg

It was the edge of the coast, the streets stood still, because there was nothing to be said. It was as if it was ordained for there to be the silence that befell the chaos, but it is not to last. Nothing lasts anymore, no more than a flower in a shifting desert sand. The seed may sprout, but it will not flourish.

There was a sobbing as the jeep came down the street. The streets had emptied themselves, those who had survived the warlord's incursion had not been allowed from the churches, the schools, the homes they were penned in, like animals. The people watched from the few sanctuaries as the masked fighters in their pseudo-armored jeep, watching stoicly as they made their patrol down the streets, looking for stragglers. One washed the crusted, blackish blood on his beaten, shoddy machete. It was long since the blade touched fleshed, it could have been scavneged from the bodies.

There would be so many more.

The jeep slowly tapered off, one of the militants making note of this as it began to slow, closing in on the itnersection. One jumped from the side, coughing through the dust filled cloth he held over his face as the wind blew past the streets in silence, and he examined the engine under the hood. Quickly stepping back, blowing away the smoke, the man soon realized that they were wrong in their suspicion. Seeing the figure on top of the building above him, he only said a few words as his vision began to blur. Not that it mattered, he did not hear the gunshot, he had died before it reached his ears, but the image remained frozen as he fell to the ground. The other two tried to jump from the seats, but quickly they were filled as what seemed to be random shooting engulfed the jeep, leaving both bodies to lie.

It was the beginning.

The Coming Storm

http://www.sudantribune.com/IMG/jpg/Rebels_of_SPLA_during_training.jpg

The militants gathered around the stronghold of this city that had no name. Name didn't matter anymore, it was ownership. It was a piece of capital. But that is not what these ones wanted. They sought different, goals.

They came upon the city, walking with knives and assault rifles. The small forces of the warlords, joined in tribal solidarity with most of the approaching militants, fiercly calling out in the name of cultural identity. The segment of loyalists to the warlord simply deserted, leaving him and a few to surrending on the hotel he made he headquarters. Once they had spread through the city, the Dahenjo had control of this city that would decide their culture and their superiority. Not they had to cleanse.

http://www.gester.nu/News/death.jpg

They came into the houses, the schools, the churhces, all where the civilians had been kept away from harm by the warlord. They looked upon the faces of all, children, women, and men. They took from them the Maro, taking them into the streets and beating them to the ground, slaughtering them upon a massive scale. It had been seen before, the Hutus and Tutsis in Rwanda. But with such calculation the Dahenjo took the Maro, taking no pleasure, only systematically killing them. They did not rape, plunder, or even vandalized. They came upon the Dahenjo civilians, taking the men to become soldiers, taking the women and children into their own homes, and suddenly, the city came to normal.

http://www.gester.nu/News/Ayacucho.jpg

But there was fighting. Nobody even knew why they were fighting, it was for fighting's sake. The Dahejo leader had failed, he had been killed and schismed his own tribe into the segments of the animistic natives, and the Muslim converts. He could not even unite his own culture by destroying the Maro, whom had been adherent to Christianity, the greatest blasphemy to the Dahenjo-Maro culture. That is why they were cleansed from this. Even so, the traditional animistic Dahenjo demanded reunification of the tribes. As did the secular Muslims, but looked upon the animists in disgust. The Maro surronding the city were left alone, horrified at what had been done to their people, and confused at the schism of the Dahenjo.

The days to follow were scarce. The schism deepend, but when the Maro came back into the city in forced, the unnamed city that everyone wanted control of, the factions split. New leaders rose up, and as the Dahenjo-Maro fell, whom would take their place rose up.

International Attention

How long did it take? Too long, as the conflict soon took the world scene only when a foreign missionary was killed. Then all eyes fell upon this nation without borders, this city without name. Then, the factions rose up, and the war truly began.

Statement from the Organization for the Liberation of the Dahenjo-Maro People (PMLDMP)
We are all children under the Creator. Whatever the Creator may be to you, God, Allah, or simply the Creator of all, we are all His children. Long have our people suffered, the Dahenjo, the Maro, we have all suffered for our crimes against ourselves. We are to fault for betraying our proud heritage as the Dahenjo-Maro. We are the soil of this earth. We must take this land. We are the people of this land.

We must reunite, end this conflict. I am sending this statement to all of those who may look upon this conflict with pity. We do not need your military. We do not need your occupation. What we ask is your true, sincere support for our people, we need solidarity among nations so we may rebuild our nation from its ashes. We will bring it to its feet, and we will become Africa.

My nation pleads for sincere support. And I plead with the Dahenjo-Maro people, we must not betray our roots, our birthright as our strengthened tribe. This is a simple plea, I will not waste time with worthless words. We need action. We need reunification.

Statement from the Muslim Dahenjo Separatists
God is great this day in our solidarity. We have seen truth of God, and it is we who will bring our nation to greatness under He.

We do not need reunification. The Dahenjo people are native to this soil, the Maro do not submit to the true God, but submit to the false Messiah of Isa. This goes beyond even our own religion. For all those under God can become one with his greatness. But it is the Maro who have taken our land. The great Kingdom of the Dahenjo people was assimilated and subjugated by the infidel, barbaric tribes of the Maro. When the Dahenjo people accepted the word of God, the Maro took back to their barbaric practices, but even further, went to the foreigners and betrayed our state to the West. We must drive this influence from our soil, as it is the natives right to decide it's fate.

I do not pretend not to be a spplicant to God, or to be one who will submit to the foreign powers that will exploit and run over our nation. Our land is our own. We are not asking for succor, but acknowledgement of our right to our own land. We are not murderers, those before us failed. We seek to keep our culture alive, the Maro will be part of our society, but we do not need reunification. We need a government for the Dahenjo people, built by the Dahenjo people.

Statement from the People's Movement Towards a Worker's Democracy
This will be our first, and very possibly our last communication with this world. The plea of the people of the Dahenjo-Maro cannot be answered by the capitalists, the exploiters, the foreign imperialists. Perhaps you will know revolution, perhaps you will understand.

The People will create their own government. We are not supplicants to nationalism, to division between our tribes. I am a human, a Dahenjo-Maro tribesman. But I am a man. A revolutionary. I work towards the liberation of the Dahenjo-Maro nation.

We have learend from the mistakes of those others. The capitalists sit in their ivory tower, drinking wine and discussing the death of communism. They think that they have won. But we have not seen communism. We have seen the failure of the theory that a bourgeious thinker named Lenin made. What we do not need is socialism. Socialism will be devoured by the global market. This has been proven. So, when can we create the worker's state? We cannot.

But comrades, that does not mean we can't fight. The global free market is unstable. We have the sword, we have the initiative, let us take our blade and cut through this globe, let us open it, destabilize it. Already, capitalism leads down a dark path. An impending crash, that of "peak oil," looms over us. We cannot make socialism. We can only aspire to social democracy. But what we can fight for is the destabilization of the free market, and then in the vacuum, organize the vanguard towards true socialism as the capitalists fall from their seats of power and fill the pockets of power, and take the world in our global conflict. We must not let the vanguard control us. We are not the party, the vanguard is only to lead the working class to take the initiative when the free market is weak. We will organize the working class to rule it's own in the worker's state. When we have achieved the global worker's state, we will dissolve it, and we will live in our communist goal.

So what do the people of Dahenjo-Maro fit into this? This conflict is one of those schisms that allow us to burn a hole into this global behemoth. I call upon those who know the truth, we must succeed. We must succeed in some way. Thank you, comrades. May we die not in vain, but for the future.

OOC: Reply as your nation would, even if only a comminique. This is an introduction to my nation, which may sway to any three factions. If wanted, one nation can play the part of the foreign nation whom the killed missionary was from. Though participation from everyone is welcome. Thank you for your time.
Dahenjo-Maro

They didn't come. Eyes turned, put off like a trifle. It would be another Somalia, they say. Intervention would escalate the situation. Thus it was decided once again, that the killing go on. Perhaps it was not a failure of the world. Perhaps it was a failure of history. These things cycle themselves, and apparently, it continues.

Eye of the Hurricane

Febuary began to set it. The Dahenjo-Maro did not know winter, but as this time passed, there was no fighting. Suddenly, everything seemed to calm, as people went in the streets, picking up the bodies, the weapons, the wealth. They took these things in the street, and cleaned away the refuse of the past months. Neighbors, former friends, had killed one another. They did not look into each other's eye as silence took the Dahenjo-Maro.

Talk of a monthly cease-fire to collect the dead, and count the numbers was made. There had been so much suffering, that they all agreed. This was the only chance they would have to know how many they have lost. And as the numbers piled, the disheartening of the ranks was evident when the push for a meeting of the factions. So thus, it was done as they came to the city that was the focus of this conflict. The moved into the hotel that the conflict had began in, where the first warlord was deposed for another. Where the second warlord had been replaced by a third.

They filed in and sat. They stared at one another, there was only three.

And only one spoke.

The man stood, and spoke to the other two dignitaries, his voice flavored with his disdain.

"My name is Joseph Bella. I was not born here. I am not of the Dahenjo-Maro. But that is why I am here. I am here, to bring voice of Pan-Africa. We are not the Dahenjo-Maro, we are simply the one's indigenous to this region. We war over simple ethnic differences, but we are blind and deaf to the true struggle of the people. With this cease-fire, temporary, I hope both of you learn what this is. We are not just the Dahenjo-Maro. We are Africa, and we are its people."

Exodus

The cease-fire disintegrated as the three factions edged at one another. No peace could be made. They could only decide that blood would be spilled to create the decision. Reunification, seperation, or liberation. The three converged in the Nameless City. With that, the refugees fled. As soon as the gunshot was fired, they began to run, drive, whatever they could do to escape the streets as they were herded, slaughtered or captured.

http://www.gester.nu/News/Haiti.jpg

They poured into the rest of Africa. Not expected for a huge refugee crisis, the pouring of this exodus demanded attention. But even so, it was Africa. The fighting escalated over the Nameless City, though no details were known. There were no winners, no discernable sides, just each individual trying to survive. Causes were forgotten for this single rule. It was anarchy. Complete anarchy.

The area that you are currently ransacking and destroying is Dimmimaran territory. The High Imperator, Gaius Serpentius is your overlord. I urge you to disband and to surrender to Dimmimar, for your people.

I may also remind you that if a response is not given within twenty four hours, then the XIV, XI and XVI legions will start to "cleanse" the Dahenjo-Maro people.

Statement from the OLDMP

If we can petition your aid for the unification of the Dahenjo-Maro people, we will gladly give our oil reserves to Dimmimar control, as our nation does not live on oil. We also ask to have a tiny extract from the profits to be used for the sole purpose fo rebuilding our nation. It has been torn from its former seat of stability, my people and nation must be reconstructed if we are to survive.

Mutee is a hero among our people, Dahenjo or Maro. He is a godless Maro, he

to him. I cannot directly allow them to know my actions, for if I do, my people

And so the order was given. Four C-17s, escorted by ten R/F-91s started approaching the coordinates. There were different things inside the C-17s. In two of them, were arms. Lots of them. In one of them were food for the soldiers and for the people they were going to help. Anything in a can actually. And in the last one was were the soldiers. Led by Captain Alberto Sanchez, he was a veteran of the Algerian Conquest and now he was leading his own team.

As the C-17s approached the coordinates, three of them descended so they could drop their supplies. The last one stayed on high as the ten soldiers parachuted down towards the location. The supplies arrived first of course. There were many weapons there. RAR-7As (which were old by Rosian standards) and RAR-7Gs were one of them. Other weapons were the RSAW-7A (the SAW of the Rosian) and the RMW-1A (a good sniper rifle for urban environments). It also had M61s (grenades) and RPG-7s. Yes the Rosian Army still uses those. And here and there were RHM-7As (the Rosian replacement for the M2).

Then the soldiers arrived. Right in front of the dropped cargo no less. Captain Alberto, armed with his AIBS, Colt. 45 and ROICW-1A (a new Rosian rifle) stood in front of his soldiers. "Roll call!" He shouted. And yes, they all have Colt .45s as their sidearms.

"Staff Sergeant Ria Gavorda! Sniper Specialist!" She was armed with an RMW-1A. Of course with the AIBS system.

"Sergeant Nikolai Petrov! Heavy Weapons!" He was armed with an RSAW-7A. With the AIBS. All the soldiers have the AIBS. By the way, the AIBS is a Hamptonian designed Land Warrior System.

"Sergeant Harold Johnson! Demolition!" This man was armed with the ROICW-1A too. But he was carrying an RPG-7 and other explosive devices too.

"Staff Sergeant Lei Fargo! Rifleman!" This Chinese woman, rare in the Empire, was armed with the ROICW-1A. Nothing special.

"Corporal Haan Rohm! Medical!" The lowest ranking man in the team. He was freshly recruited into the Rosktai and is a great medic. He was armed with an ROICW-1A, and had medical equipment up the ass.

"Sergeant Barry Val! Rifleman!" A rifleman, armed with the same thing as Lei. It's a man by the way.

"Sergeant Farooq Benja! Rifleman!" An Algerian in the Rosian Army. He was selected because of his skill in the Algerian Conquest.

"Staff Sergeant Alexander Miskanov! Rifleman!" A rifleman, nothing special. Armed with the ROICW-1A and Colt .45.

"Staff Sergeant Rosa Fernandez! Rifleman!" Armed like Alexander.

The Captain shouted. "Attend hut!" And a clash of boot knocked together. They were standing straight in a line. Alberto turned around and proclaimed. "Where do I put this stuff?!?"

I'm done.

From: Dmitri Alexikov

The Imperial government has recently deployed several civilian cargo aircraft transporting humanitarian supplies to the region of Dahenjo-Maro. We realize that path of this mission takes the flight directly through Dimmimar airspace, and so request that you allow the transports access to this airspace that they may drop off their supplies and return to Generian territory.

Outside the Nameless City, Dahenjo-Maro

When they came upon the refugee camp, they say many different people, sitting around near the tents, living together in necessity. It was strange, the way they dismissed the presence of the Rosians. They were working, pitching new tents, cooking, cutting down wood. Systematically, they were working to keep each other alive. A few of the women grinding the corn looked to the line of soldiers, whom were greeted by some of the OLDMP soliders in a friendly fashion. Even though there was tragedy, everyone seemed solemn, as if they did not want to cry anymore.

http://www.gester.nu/News/Gerilla.jpg

The soldiers watched silently as they sounded off. They said nothing, but smiled, but the Roskai could see that the soldiers did not fully understand, but they got the jist that they were here to help. One of them said something in the Maro tongue to the other, and he quickly started walking towards the crumblign church and school that the camp was built around in this rural countryside. After a few minutes he came back, being followed by a tall man in military briefs, looking with a large smile at the Roskai. He came closer and said a few things in the Maro language to the soldiers, who went back to their posts and looked to the soldiers.

"Friends.." he said in English. "So good to finally see you come. I have been told you have arrived with the Rosian shipment. Hopefully, your arrival did not attract any attention. The people here have been expecting you. We can move the supplies to the churchhouse soon, and then we can distribute. Now, I would like to talk to the superior officer, if he could follow me into the school house, my people will help you move in the equipment into the Church. We have little time to spare."

It may become necessary to employ an overland route through the CAF after all. This will take time, however, and we fear that you may not be able to hold out until the armaments arrive. Thus we shall provide some compensation for our tardiness in the form of a unit of Imperial Black Guard operatives.

These men are the elite of the Imperial Praetorian Guard, and though we can reveal little more about them than that, we are certain they will be able to buy you some time. They will proceed the shipment along the aforementioned route and should reach you in approximately two days. These men are ghosts, and so will bear no form of identification signifying that they are of the Generian military. Their arrival will be proceeded by a communique with a single codeword enclosed. They will use this as an identification. Until then you must hold the city at all costs.

Alberto stepped foward. "At ease men! Start helping these civvies!" The soldiers let out a Yes sir! and started to help the nativs with the supplies. Others started teaching the soldiers how to use the strange weapons. Alberto looked around at the camp, the strange looks they were receiving. It reminded him of the American campaign in Somalia. Sure they were greeted with love, then it went to hell.

He cleared his throat. "My name is Captain Alberto Sanchez of the 4th Special Forces Group. We're the soldiers that came to help. And these-" He pointed to the soldiers that were helping the camp. "-this is my group. I'm pretty sure you already know their names." He chuckled. "We can do anything you need. Hell, we can take an entire regiment by ourselves." He smirked. "But enough about me. Let's go."

Alberto was a tanned man. He didn't mind the sun, neither did the rest of the soldiers. Hell, the Island is one of the hottest nations on Earth. They could wear a sweater and not die as fast from the heat. But of course, that's them eh?

The shorter man smiled and nodded, his curly black hair shortly trimmed to give him a round shape to his head.

"Yes, we should not have too much trouble with the City. The warlord has little in the way of forces, especially such as yours, but we can take little chances in, urban warfare. We have little reason to believe that there will be any trouble in retaking the city. With your support, and that of Dimmimar, we will prevail quite easily. There are two things I must confess I fear. When we take the city, there are two obstacles to the reunification. There are still more warlords, we are not fighting the snake, but the worm. Even further, we face the threat of Mutee's forces. Mutee is a very wise man, but he does not realize that we fight for is the same, the unity of our people. At least, that is what I hope. Joseph Bella, one of his loyalists, has agreed to meet with us. This obstacle may very well become a stepping stone. For that is what we wish."

They had reached the school house, and passed by two of the OLDMP guards as they entered an impromptu headquarters. The smaller man came to the conference table and turned to Alberto.

"My name is Rev. Henry Coetzee. A pleasure. This was my school and my church, I am glad I can offer it to such a cause. Many of us are not in the way of, military tactics, but I can offer you and intelligence you may request, though I may have limitations. Here, on the conference table, we have a map of the city, along with a few locations marked for your reference."

Alberto nodded. "Any intelligence is good intelligence. And if we can get Mutee on our side, we can easily retake the city. From our perspective, Mutee just wants a democratic Government under a unified tribe. So we might have a possibility of getting them to join us." He looked at the map, analyzing it very carefully. He did a few hms and ums and finally he looked at Henry.

"Look." He said. "We're gonna have to know everything you know. We need to do surgical strikes that will weaken the Warlords but not threaten re-unification. So start speaking."

Henry silenced himself for a small moment.

"Yes, that is the problem. Our people are divided greatly over these tribal conflicts, some do not even want reunification. Khalid and his subordinates control the City through fear, not loyalty. Surgical strikes are the answer to his own interferences with our reconstruction efforts. But, as you can see, it may not be out main mission. To regain the trust of the Dahenjo-Maro, we need to focus on the aspects of the reconstruction. My men can contact Mutee's loyalists, but our job here in the city is bringing relief to the people in the city, especially the Maro, whom are those most persecuted against by Ghaazi. If we enter in with just humanitarian effort, he will attempt to hijack our operations and use it as leverage against the other warlords. For this, we use the surgical strikes. We work from the outside in, when he tries to strike, we counter faster than he will realize, and the more he tries to stop our progression, the weaker he becomes. He can only hope to solidify the base of his power, which is crumbling before his feet. The closer we get to this center of power, the more powerful we become as the people join us in our struggle."

He nods.

"I am not a strategist, I am a man of God. My job here is to protect and administer my people, I can only put my prayer and hope into you, because it is you who can lead our people to reunification."

Alberto sighed. "Of course. But you must know something. We cannot stand still and do nothing. Take us to the military leader here, maybe he can give us the breifing."
He looked at Alberto, a man whom seemed to be very persistant on getting to act.

"I think you may have misunderstood my words. No matter though, I can offer you right now the dossiers we have. The intelligence we have collected is scant, we have little resources to use in gaining what we need. Chairman Sevimbe has few loyalties, but, he is currently busy in the conference at one of the few places that we can travel to unhindered in the city. But he is our connection with Bella, and thus, Mutee's loyalists.

You may be slightly disappointed in our forces for fighting. It is true we cannot stand and do nothing. But today, we need you to entrench yourselves, our people are not ready to fight. Patience will bring what you wish. We cannot acomplish this in a day. The files, the, intelligence we can offer is here. I will take my leave of you, I must attend to my people."

With that, the priest nodded his head and walked from the makeshift churchhouse, back into the camp.

Alberto grunted. "Damn it he's right."

He watched as the Priest walked away. He observed the Dossier, shaking his head. Most of these things he knew from satellite images. He looked back at his squad, who were helping the natives. Alberto had to do something useful, and what would it be? Training the natives. He walked towards his squard.

"All right listen up!" The soldier stood at attention. "I want you to start training these boys, and make them men! And hell, see if you can train some women too." He turned to a native. "Pick up a gun and start learning!"

He started walking around handing guns to the natives as to train them. Oy, Alberto if one of those guys who can't sit still.

She spoke in broken English, it could be seen that few, if any were educated enough to speak English, let alone read their own.

"Teach? Is that what your here for? These are my people, you cannot just give weapons and expect us to live to your desire. You must teach, if we are to learn."

Her point seemed a bit lost but she shook her head and retracted.

"Look, you cannot expect us to learn without any learning. Most of us were drive nfrom our homes. The Dahenjo murdered our families. Most of all of us are Maro, only a few of the.. Dahenjo you can find. We know not what to do, so you, teach us, if you can expect anything."

There was a bit of silence as many of the people had gathered around. The woman smiled and was the first to step foward, in front of everyone else. The other people still talked with each other, and there was reluctance. They spoke to each other in their native tongues, but eventually, another person came up. And whom it was surprised Alberto. It was Henry, the priest. With him, came foward three more. With them, six. Further and further, eventually, the crowd was one, and stood in front of Alberto. Many of them were smiling, others stared solemnly and waited to be trained. Others cried. It was not just men, but women, teenagers, the more elderly. All and all, it was the people.

"So then, teach us."

Silence.

"I need you to be able to survive under horrible conditions. If I catch a man looking at a woman the wrong way, he will receive 10 lashes. If the woman does the same, 10 lashes. Girl on girl, 10 lashes. Man on man, 10 lashes. We are all equal here. That is another thing you must learn, if one man or woman messes up, the entire group must pay."

He cleared his throat. "After you shed your clothing you will do 10 jog in places. As soon as you finish, 10 push ups, then you will lay down and do 10 sit ups. You will do this until you are so tired you cannot move."

"And one more thing, you will address me as Sir. Do you understand that?!"

There was little "unified" feeling about this. As he continued, the line attempted keep staring straight, though there were a few "slips."

As he began to tell the orders, a few of the group seemed a bit slow to answer. He could tell not all of them completely understood what he was speaking, but they got the message. As such, only a few replied with "Yes, sir." One of them, a younger, seemingly athletic man, walked up a few steps and looked straight on to Alberto.
