OOC: Wouldn't an X-Ray proof case look weird on an X-Ray scanner (as nothing was coming through) and precipitate the opening of said suitcase to assertain the cause of such irregularities.

OOC: yes to be sure, although it would not really be needed as the other case would just appear as an empty place in the case

An X Ray machine looks like this:
X-Ray Source------------Baggage----------Photographic Plate
=====(----------------[---------]--------------|
====(-----------------[---------]--------------|
===(------------------[---------]--------------|
====(-----------------[---------]--------------|
=====(----------------[---------]--------------|
Now, if you put something inside the suitcase that stops the X-Rays getting through (the .s are just there to make the pic work):
=====(----------------[--[.......]--]...................|
====(-----------------[--[.......]--]....................|
===(------------------[--[.......]--]....................|
====(-----------------[--[.......]--]....................|
=====(----------------[--[.......]--]....................|
Still nothing gets through. Airport security is very difficult to fool.

ooc: would it be possible, to make it somehow have the same properties as say flesh? (i.e: X-rays go right through?

ooc: would it be possible, to make it somehow have the same properties as say flesh? (i.e: X-rays go right through?
OOC: yes this is possible but making the briefcase in this method would reveal the contents of the case.Lead could be used to take in all the x-ray's but this would leave a blank space but if the weapon was in a briefcase covered with, we'll say lead wrapping paper it would appear that some of the case was empty

We at the Xenizen Central Intelligence Agency are intrigued by this rifle. We are willing to pay USD$2,300,000 for 500 guns, with cases.

OOC: Guns block out X-Rays anyway - that's how you detect them. However, it would be perfectly possible to put lead lined "paper" around the gun so it merely looked like a package. Still, they might open up the case anyway to see what's inside, but that's largely based on luck and how stringent the airport security protocol is at whatever airport you may land at. At a Praetonian airport it would definately be opened, but that's because I've been smallpoxed in the past.

ooc: The lining of the part that holds the gun is designed to look empty, not simply block out x-rays.

OOC: You mean let X-Rays pass right through? Uh... how?
((OOC: pardon the intrustion, but with the way X-ray machines work you would have to have an X-ray generator on the other side to suppliment the loss of radiation. otherwise you still have a big dark solid area.
What you COULD do however is create an X-ray clutter wall of varying densities that would be of denser matrial than the rifle components but allow enough radiation through so as to selectively 'bleed' the pattern of the clutter wall through. It would take a hell of alot of hours with an x-ray machine to work (you have to constantly make a change and check it so that it matches the false luggage ontop) but it would be alot harder to automatically see something is wrong with this picture, than say... a big white block.
Of course packign the rifle so it perfectly alligns with the clutter wall would be another pain))

ooc: i thought of that. I packed a secret radio opaque ingredient into the case and the rifle is disassembled and the parts placed around the radiopaque material. Thus the barrel could look like a candlestick for example.
