Mississippi commissions new ammunitions

News from Jackson City, Mississippian weapons designers have commissioned a new round of ammunition, the 7.62mm SLAPP (Saboted Light Armour-Penetrating Plus) round, and the 5.56mm ATAPR (Anti-Tank Armor Piercing Round), along with the 20mm special ATAP (Anti-Tank Armor Piercing) projectile, intended to be used in the 20mm grenade portion of the OICW rifle.

The ammunition in question, while very expensive, at 5 dollars per round for the 20mm, 1 dollar per round for the 5.56mm, and 2 dollars per round for the 7.62mm, is considered a revolution in munitions technology.

These new rounds will give Mississippian ground soldiers, in the proper situations, the potential ability to neutralize an armored vehicle. For instance, a soldier with a 20mm projectile in his grenade launcher portion of the OICW, will be able to potentially stop a T-90 or comparable tank, depending on shot placement and the angle of the round.

A soldier with a 7.62mm or 5.56mm special round, will be able to penetrate any known model of personal body armor or combat suit system. For instance, see what happens when Mississippian Crusader Body armor is hit by a 7.62mm SLAPP round.

(Cut to footage, soldiers have gathered around on a firing line, one holds an M-14B rifle, he raises it up tight against his shoulder and takes aim at the suit of Crusader Body Armor, about 400 meters away, on a mannequin. The soldier gently squeezed the trigger and immediately the mannequin flew backwards, at least sixty feet, and as the camera zoomed in, it was clear it would have been a fatal blow, the mannequin’s chest was entirely destroyed, a hole the size of a quarter was in the front of the mannequin, but the exit wound was nearly the size of a baseball. The soldiers started to cheer, one shouted, “Damn, that’s some powerful crap there!”)

OOC Just out of curiosity, but since SLAP rounds are basically subcaliber darts that have less kinetic energy but more impulse than a regular round, wouldn't it simply punch through the maniquin but leave it standing?

Ooc- Perhaps SLAP might, but my rounds are SLAPP, altered versions designed to suit the specific needs of our soldiers.

OOC which are? Not quibling, honesty interested in what bullet could knock a man sized object back 60 feet when most bullets don't knock you back at all. Not enough kinetic energy in them. Given the effects of the ammunition, it sounds like there's an awful lot of transfer of momentum which means energy is being transfered to the system, not being used to penetrate.

Ooc-

It wasn't a man, it was a mannequin which weighs less than ten pounds...

And yes, I've seen a gallon jug of water (about 8 pounds) go flying 5-15 feet back and 5-8 feet in the air, when hit with the right ammuniton. How? I've done it myself, so I know.

OOC Wearing about 60 pounds of armor. Meh. Not going to argue. I have no doubt it can penetrate most personal armor, but when 120mm sabots have trouble killing tanks, people aren't going to have your assault rifles or 20mm grenade launchers kiill them unless hit from the rear.

Ooc- The rifle ammo isn't designed or intended for use against tanks, obviously you need to read the post again (no offense), but it's clearly stated, the light rifle rounds are anti body armor, the 20mm is anti tank armor. And anyway, it even mentions shot placement being critical.

OOC Ah, I wasn't sure if it was the light armor peircing round (which could also refer to smaller armored vehicles or MBT side armor) or the 5.56 anti tank round. My apologies.
