Snake Eater Military High Command: Press Release
With the introduction of the new Cobra-class Interceptor, the older model Vipers are now up for sale. Stats to be posted for both craft soon.
History
The Cobra project was intiated 20 NSyears ago, in order to replace the older Viper. Basic design is similar, but modifications and improvements have been made to make the Cobra far superior to the Mk 9 Viper X, the latest breed of the Viper-class.
The Viper was brought into service over 50 years by the-then President of Snake Eaters, Lord Holden. It was designed to be a small interceptor, capable of truly taking the fight to the enemy. Whilst starships can engage in head on assualts, the Viper was so small that it did not show up on any system wide scans. It first saw action in a conflict with pirate raiders, and proved its worth by engaging head-on with ZX9 Headhunters, a fearsome insectile craft popular with pirates, and coming out on top. The truly unique design allowed for mounting of additional weapons systems, in order to complement the original dual-phaser cannons.
However, as time progressed, flaws that were overlooked in the intial phases began to surface. These included the fact that sortie time was limited. At the time of production, solid fuel was truly the only viable method for a craft of this size. Whilst providing excellent thrust, it limited the sortie time severly. It was only with the introduction of recrystallisation technology that sorties could become longer and truly meaningful. However, the technology came too late to save the doomed Viper, and due to advances in propulsion technology, the Cobra does not use solid fuel.
Lord Barbarossa ordered the Cobra project be intiated at the start of his time. His expierences with the Viper had taught him firsthand that it was a flawed design, and the Cobra was such a vast improvement over the Viper that he saw no reason to delay it any further. It was highly funded, and the first prototype, which included many features not to be seen on the standard model, was produced 5 years ago. This was gifted to Col. James Cougar, of Snake Eater Special Forces, who was a close personal friend of the President. Since then, nearly 500,000 Cobras have been produced, and they are to enter front-line service in the very near future
