15 Minute Coup in Reichstan

The early morning silence throughout Reichstan City this morning was shattered by the rumble of trucks up the streets. At 04:07, military transports carrying the 3rd Parachute Infantry Division and elite forces of Reichstan's police force roared into the courtyard of the capitol building, smashing through the gatehouse in a flash of gunfire. In the ensuing melee, the strike force fought its way through a limited palace guard and took the building with only 6 casualties.

The force, under Brigadier General Vincento Maricelli and Reichstan's Police Minister Mark Stand, had secured the building and raised the flag of the Peoples' Liberation Army of Reichstan at 04:22. The organisation, part of a nationwaide resistance to the deposed dictator Jimhaff Muk-Talak, has been virtually unnoticed up to this point.

"We are an association for the people," commented Maricelli in address following the flag-raising. "We saw that the lives of our people were being driven into the ground by the insanity of the dictator."

Muk-Talak, part of the original foundation committee in Reichstan, had gained absolute power by murdering opposition in the party. He controlled the parliament as a puppetmaster would a crowd of marionettes, a fact well-known to the people but that became moot when considering his vast security forces.

"The idea behind our creation was to keep resistance to the Leader to a minimum," said Stand. Reichstan's police force--accounting for roughly 20% of the country's population-- was the most funded organisation in the country. However they felt the same strains as everyone else in that they were taxed 100%. The reasoning was to make everyone equal, supplying what is needed from the state. However, as Muk-Talak became more and more senile and withdrawn, funds were being increasingly diverted to his own pocket.

"Calls for revolution were all over. When the police said they would be willing to join our cause, we decided then and there to overthrow that madman. Clearly we've done something right; I don't see a huge army scrambling to reinstate Muk-Talak," observed Maricelli.

Now that the people are in power, it remains to be seen how the state of Reichstan--now known as the Armed Republic of Reichstan-- will change economically and politically. Maricelli said earlier today that one of the first goals will be a full revitalisation of the economy and the reinstatement of democratic elections as soon as possible.

The reactions of neighboring countries have not yet hit the ctizens or their new leaders, but will undoubtedly be made known soon.
