James Stephenson, 36, deputy minister of security, was shot and killed at 14:16 today. He was walking down one of the main streets of the capitol city, Vinostravia, when he was shot in the back three times at point blank range by a known communist activist. A bodyguard also sustained serious wounds and is currently in intensive care, his state being described as critical.

The assailant, a 22 years old registered communist extremist, left the scene of the crime on foot, but was apprehended only minutes afterwards by vigilant members of the FCD Response Forces, and is currently being held for questioning. This is the first attack by the communist insurgents after several weeks of relative peace, and the Party is now expected to strengthen security measures and make a severe crackdown on the communist movements active in the Federation, namely the so called “Democratic Communist Movement” (DCM), the communist terrorist organisation which has been active in the Federation ever since its formation. It is still unknown if the Party plans to take immediate retaliatory action.

Also, Partyleader Leon Vladimirovich Covski is expected to make a statement with regards to these events shortly.

The Emperial Goverment is sad to hear that once again that communists have once again lied and misguided young people away from morality and hard work.

The Emperial Goverment feels, in addition, that it is long past time that we devoloped favourable relations with the goverment of FCD, and offers that we exchange diplomatic embassies in each our respective capitals.

Also, we feel that the current rightfull goverment of the FCD might want to consider entering into the United Defense Frontier, in the interest of peace and world stability.

Leon Vladimirovich Covski, Partyleader of the Party of FCD, walked up to the stage beneath which a rather large crowd had begun to gather. He was formally dressed in the Party uniform, and walked straight up to the microphone accompanied by two soldiers, ignoring the questions of the reporters closest to him. He took a moment to survey the audience before speaking up, in a more severe tone of voice than usual.

“My comrades, people of the Federation. Today is a sad day for the Party, and for the nation as a whole.” He made a short pause. “The loss of a most valued member of our staff, a loving father of two who wanted nothing but to serve the nation and its citizens is always a chocking and terrible thing, but this is more than just that. This, this is yet another sign that the communist insurgents of the nation have no interest in coexisting with the Party and the people of our proud Federation in peace."

The crowd shouted in agreement, and Covski paused to let them quieten down before continuing, with renewed force.

"We extended our hand to them in friendship, looking to overcome our meaningless grievances in the past, and they saw fit to spit upon it. I think we all had a high hopes for peace regardless of ideology, but their actions today have proven that they have no such intent. They merely wish to plunge the nation into anarchy, to set themselves up as dictators once again, just like the Vinostravian government before the rebellion. This is the final sign that the members of organisations such as the DCM or other similar groupings are not the harmless ideologues they want us to think. No. We shall not sit idly by while they attempt to destroy all that we hold dear. My people, trust me, the Party shall not rest until those who are responsible for the death of James Stephenson and many others before him are put to justice! They will pay for their transgressions against the state and the people!”

The crowd shouted their approval, cries of anger against the communists mixed with shouts of support for their Partyleader’s words, mixing together into an almost inhuman roar of voices. Covski made a gesture to silence them.

“But, let it be known to the people of other nations that we seek not to hunt down anyone based on their beliefs and views. We merely seek to bring the extremists and insurgents present in our own nation to justice. Any foreigners in the Federation can feel completely at ease, in that no harm will come to them based on their belief. We hope that the international community will support our decisions here today. Before I take my leave of you, my comrades, let us all remember James Stephenson, along with all the other victims of the communist onslaught. Sons, daughters, husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, friends and above all, or comrades. Their deaths shall be avenged, this, this I swear to you!”

Covski simply turned and walked away, leaving the cheering crowd behind him.

The Federation gratefully accepts your offer of an embassy exchange in these times of strife for our people, and hope that a cooperation between our nations may help to bring about an era of peace for us all.

Also, applying for membership in the United Defence Frontier is currently being considered by departments of the Party, as per your suggestion. We would appreciate any additional information on this alliance which could be passed on to us. (OOC: Link?)

The Democratic Peoples Republic of Mekugi are saddened and horrified to hear of your loss, and fully support your move to help prevent the spread of violent extremeist groups in your nation...

However...

Besides stating that you have apprehended a suspect that is connected with a communist group in your nation, and without a published verdict, dont you feel it is rather premature to begin rallying cries against a man who has yet to be even convicted of the crime? Now our foriegn intelligence division is rather slow to update their factbooks, but dosent such public outcry against someone who may simply have been the right guy, with the wrong connections make haveing a fair, and honest trial nearly impossible?

We support the idea, but we question the motive...

We understand your concerns, but we can assure you, beyond reasonable doubt, that the murder of the deputy security minister was politically motivated. The suspect has divulged details during interrogation which clearly describe the communists' motives, as well as important notes on their command structure.

There is, with the facts currently available to us, no doubt that the recent murder was merely another step in the DCM's agenda of terror, even tough the audacity of this step is unprecedented in the history of the Federation.

Furthermore, according to the Second FCD Security Act, it is our duty to respond to extremist agression in the swiftest and most decisive manner possible, in order to prevent further loss of human life, should the DCM or other organisations decide to intensify the violence. Also, the Act states that registered activists do not need to undergo standard judicial procedures, if they are suspected of politically motivated crimes against the state. He will be given a fair trial, but matters will be handled internally.

We give you our word that the actions taken are just and necessary, and that every matter regarding this affairs have been handled according to all appliciable rules.

We understand fully, and appreciate your time. Such actions are not to be taken lightly regardless of their political origin, and we as Peaceful Democratic socialist state feel it is our duty to help others in stomping out such radical groups. We may support their initial peaceful ideals, but that does not mean we condone, or will allow such actions. It is a depraved and desperate man that would murder another in cold blood without provocation, and for something as menial as fickle political goals...

It is our strongest united compulsion from both my heart, the Praetor, and the Senate of the Democratic Peoples Republic of Mekugi that you make an example of such a lunatic on a grand scale.

Following the murder of the deputy minister of security, security measures have been strengthened throughout the nation. Response Force patrols have been doubled in hazardous areas of the major cities, and are preparing for more actions of violence by the insurgents.

It has also been decreed that all individuals who are registered according to the Second FCD Security Act must report to the nearest Response Force station within the next three days, or risk charges of terrorism. If you are unable to report in during the allotted time period, it is imperative that you call the RF representatives in the Security Sector you are registered in.

Response Forces acting in unison with elements of the Armed Forces have conducted raids on suspected communist safehouses during the day. Only today, 23 registered activists have been incarcerated suspected of terrorism, and 4 activists were regretfully killed during the day's operations. No losses have been reported by the Armed Forces or the RF.

This day has been a clear indicator that the Party intends to follow up on the promises Partyleader Covski made during his speech, and may well be the beginning of a process that will finally ensure the safety of the nation and its people.

Breaking news!

The Party today released details and photographs of one of the suspected masterminds behind the murder of the deputy security minister, as well as one of the three highest ranked members of the DCM.

Lev Breznikov, a 43 years years old hardcore communist insurgent, narrowly managed to escape during a raid on a safehouse conducted by elements of the Nightwolf Legions, the elite special force of the Federation. Breznikov was seen escaping the building, an abandoned warehouse in the industrial zones of Vinstagaard, only moments before the Nightwolf struck down on the insurgents with an iron fist, killing four and capturing two individuals.

The raid is reported to have yielded further important information, and is seen as a great step ahead in the Party's struggle to put an end to the DCM's bloody history. The next step is thought to be the capture and trial of Breznikov, for his crimes against the State, the Party and the People.

Critics have commented on the fact that Breznikov is one of the sole two surviving members of the Communist Workers Union of Vinostravia, who were involved in the so called "soup kitchen ambush", resulting in the capture of Covski and the death of several of his closest associates. The critics suggest that Covski is using the push against the DCM as an opportunity to settle a personal vendetta, to avenge the comrades whose death Brezenikov was indirectly responsible of. The Party hasn't commented on these suggestions.

Personnel of the FCD Mail Security Network today intercerpted letters alledgely written by the insurgent leader Lev Breznikov, adressed to the administrations of a number of communist nations. The Party has not released any precise details on the actual content of the letters, but it has been established that they were written with the intention of gaining support in communist nation, a last feeble attempt to strengthen their fading grip of fear on the good citizens of the Federation.

The question that remains now is whether or not more batches of letters with a similar or identical content have been sent out. Security routines for the mail systems have also been strengthened. The Party has not announced that they will having any form of press conferance, but a statement from Partyleader Covski has been made official.

"We have already told the world that we are only hunting down terrorists and murderers within our nation, and mean no offence to the worldwide leftist community. If they take action against us for this, they will only prove to the world that they have no interest in peace or cooperation. We hope it will not come to that."

We would like to point out that this was only one random act of violence. We also really do doubt that this man represented the Communist movement as a whole.

While we do support FCD’s Communist movement, we will not support random acts of violence if violence is not directed towards the movement. We see no problem with FCD possibly executing the murderer for his crimes, but we will see a major problem if massive offensive actions are taken against the entire Communist Party of FCD.

Official Communique to Communist Louisiana

While we understand your concerns, we believe that you do not possess the background information relating to the political situation of the Federation in entirety. Let us clarify, for the sake of mutual understandig.

The Federation was formed from a number of sectors of the oppressive demi-communist nation of Vinostravia. Leon Covski, Partyleader of the Party of FCD led a democratic resistance against the government. For unknown reasons, hardcore elements of the Communist Workers Union violently opposed the Resistance, which had earlier pledged support to Covski's cause. In a trap set up by the CWUV, Covski was captured along with a handful of his closest companions, many of which were killed.

After Covski and the surviving members of the Resistance leadership managed to escape from captivity, with the help of some "friends" abroad. Long story short, the Resistance prevailed despite the efforts of the CWUV and the government, and the Federation was formed. During the reformation process, the CWUV metamorphosed into the Democratic Communist Movement, which, despite its name, is no more than a terrorist organisation with the goal of destabilizing society in preparation for a takeover by communist remains of the old Vinostravian goverment. By now, all serious communists with a peaceful intent has left the DCM, and many of them have joined the Party of FCD.

There is no "communist party" as such, at the moment, as the violent actions of the DCM have forced the Party to postpone the awaiting election process, which is to be the first election of the Federation, repeatedly. What one also must understand is that this is in reality not a single random act of violence, but the first major strike by these terrorists in several weeks, a part of a new resurgence of violence. With the current evidence, there are no doubts that the DCM were directly responsible for the murder of the minister, and the Party would be delighted to divulge these evidence at a later time.

As you see, the so called "communist party" is merely a terrorist organisation concerned with their own hidden agenda, and a disgrace to the true ideals of communism. We suggest that you offer no official support to these terrorists, as they are clearly not the type of movement any respectable nation such as yours would want to be associated with.

If there is anything else you would like to have clarified, do not hesitate to ask.

Secret IC:

Lev Breznikov smiled triumphantly as he put down the phone, triumphantly enough to make his comrade Paulie, a 20-year old red haired activist, ask why.

"Why the smirk, Lev? 'Ave we won yet?" Paulie turned away from the window, looking at his leader. The boards of the old suburban house creaked, but the surroundings were entirely quiet, with the exception of their current hideout, which was home to about a dozen members of the DCM.

"Not yet." Lev smiled. "But the nation of Hogsweat has made a statement offering assistance to our cause."

"Ah!" Paulie raised his eyebrows. "Time to draft another letter, then?"

"I suppose so." Lev had already produced the stationary required. "Go down and tell the others the good news while I write it, would you?"

"Yes, indeed." Paulie dashed down the stair to the second floor of the house. Yet again, his youthful entusiasm for their cause made Lev feel a glimmer of hope.

The minutes passed quickly as Lev quickly began formulating the letter, one which could possibly improve their situation greatly. Their cause wasn't about to fail if he could help it. Covski's administration had begun hardening their grip on the movement, but with the help of a large nation such as Hogsweat could finally help them to fight back. As he wrote, he paused once or twice to survey his surroundings. An undecorated room on the third floor of a rundown surburban chalet in an almost abandoned residential area in the industrial zones of Vinstagaard. Hardly a magnificent base of operations, but one quite fitting for a warrior of the working class. He caught the reflection of his face in the mirror, and was chocked to see how much he seemed to have aged during the past weeks. His hair had become increasingly grey, and his chins were sunken, his skin at least one shade paler.

He had just finished the letter when Paulie came walking up the stairs, beaming.

"Hah, your news got the lads quite excited, Lev! We're damn ready to take on the world!", the young man uttered, excitedly.

"Taking on the Party would be quite enough", Lev replied calmly, then paused. "Paulie. We're not the bad guys, are we?"

His question made the young man smirk. "Not as far as I know." he replied, then laughed. "Well, done with the letter?"

"Indeed. A first draft at least." Lev handed the young man the sheet of paper, and he read it.

"Looking good, this will do nicely." Paulie smiled again. "How're we going to mail it out this time?"

"Well, I suppose we'll just..." Lev was interrupted by the sound of a window shattering on one of the floors below. "What was that?"

"What the f...?" Paulie exclaimed, dashing over to the window, pulling aside the curtain. "What...? Lev, they're...!"

Paulie's words we cut short by a bullet entering his chest, exiting through the back, spraying a thin stream of blood unto the floor. Low caliber bullet, aimed at the right side of the chest. Lev had heard about it, standard procedure for military snipers when intending to demoralize the enemy. The bullet would penetrate the lung, causing incredible pain and leaving the victim incapacitated with his throat filled with blood. Often lethal, always demoralising.

Lev watched in disbelief, still sitting at the table, as his young friend stumbled backwards, producing gurgling noices, before slumping to the floor. Paulie tried to get up, coughing up clots of blood which blended into the small stream of blood running from the hole in his chest. Finally, he collapsed on the floor again, still clutching the letter in his hand, curling up in a fetal position, gasping for air and letting out a pitiful highpitched yelp of pain.

Finally able to act, Lev threw himself to the floor, crawling over to Paulie. From the floors below, he could hear the sound of wood breaking followed by bursts of automatic gunfire. He reached out, grabbing his young comrade's hand. Paulie just looked at him with big childlike eyes full of fear, trying to formulate words despite drowning in his own blood.

"Lev... Don...Don't... Do... Lev, you... Don't... let... Don't let... Don't..."

He was gone.

Lev recoiled in horror from the blank stare of Paulie's eyes, as the death of a creature which had only moments ago been a personification of youth and entusiasm dawned upon him. It was know he heard the steps of heavy boots in the stairs, and turned his head to see the masked face of a Nightwolf staring at him. He tried to fight, tried to say something, but they were upon him too quickly, and he suddenly felt a jab of pain in his leg as a syringe entered his flesh. He wanted to yell, but his visions blurred, and became darkness.

They had caught him.

Press release, one week after the capture of Lev Breznikov

The Party today released to the public that the infamous communist mastermind Lev Breznikov was caught during a raid conducted by military forces. Along with Breznikov, several other high-ranking members of the DCM were captured and are being held for questioning.

Party officials have stated that documents in which the DCM were trying to coax like-minded nations into assisting them in a full assault on the citizens of the Federation. Even though very little of the actual contents have been released to the public, it stands painfully clear that the struggle against the insurgents must continue, unless we are to surrender to the tyranny of the stalinist forces both at home or abroad.

After the capture of Breznikov, it is unclear which the next step of the Party will be in securing the Federation and its people.
