The Empire establishes the Imperial Mediterreanean Alliance (Earth II)

The Island of Rose

Official Statement from The Grand Imperial Empire of The Island of Rose:

Empires of the Mediterreanean, lend me your ears. For far too long, foreign powers have eyed this part of the world. And for far too long, the Mediterreanean has been the target of abuse. Well no more. I wish to establish an Alliance, it would be called the Imperial Mediterreanean Alliance. We must keep the Sea safe, and this would be the first step towards it. Who wishes to join me? Let us work together, make a charter, and bring glory to the Sea.

((OOC: It's not that I hate the Confederacy. I'm allied to RomeW. The thing is, I don't like having an entire region controlled by one alliance. And yes, I'm too lazy to make a charter. It's better that we make one together anyway XD))

Greece is showing an interest in this alliance and would like to join as there needs to be a balance of power in the Mediterranean Sea. If I need too I will pull Greece out of the Roman Confederacy.

Official Statement from The Grand Imperial Empire of The Island of Rose:

We will be very glad if one of our closest allies join this new Alliance. The fact of the matter is, the Sea needs a balance of power. This Alliance is an attempt to bring that balance. We hope that you join and come to Rose City to talk about a new Charter.

Cotland remains neutral at this point, but is interested in hearing more. A few questions:

1. Will this new alliance weaken the Roman Confederacy?

2. Is it possible for a nation to be a member of both the Roman Confederacy and the new alliance?

3. Are there any requirements needed in order to become members?

Official Statement from The Grand Imperial Empire of The Island of Rose:

1. It depends if the Confederacy wants to interfere with the affairs of its future members.

2. No. The Alliance is being established to counter the slow takeover of the Sea. We fear that this could ruin Rosian holdings in the Sea, and possibly anyone else's.

3. You just need land connected to the Sea, nothing special. We also add that this is just a counter-alliance to balance the region, not a coalition against the Confederacy.

Offical Statement by The Lightning Star

"While we will not join this alliance and we vehemetly support the Roman Confederacy and all that it stands for, we will not interfere with the Imperial Mediterreanean Alliance. We wish to try and bring both of our alliances(The Roman Confederacy and the IMA) together, to ensure that a massive war does not take place.

HOWEVER!

If ANY member of the IMA attacks ANY member of the Roman Confederacy, a state of war will exist between TLS and the Alliance(and I will have the backing of the Confederacy. I hope.)

We wish to express an "interest" in this proposed alliance. We would like for both the Confederacy and this Alliance to be on peaceful terms and think any other position taken by either group would be deterimental to the economy and sanctity of the region. With that said, we would like to send a representative of Hawdawg to the Charter establishment meeting to ensure the best interests of our nation are protected. We won't commit to a membership until the "details" on the Alliance are worked out.

Sincerely,

******Official Statement From the Roman Government******

We wish to reiterate that the Confederacy is not interested in "taking over control" of the Mediterranean. The Confederacy is meant to be an organization helping Mediterranean nations in whatever endeavour they encounter, and is not interested in interfering with non-members' interests in the Mediterranean, as long as it does not interfere with Confederacy members' interests.

Our strength has not been used to strongarm other nations to do our bidding, in fact, in our charter we spell out that aid does not come for imperialistic ends. We feel that the statement that this alliance is a "counter" is a slanderous one and a misinterpretation of what the Confederacy is about. We are not about abuse and are vehemently opposed to anyone abusing others to further their own interests. We request The Island Of Rose discontinue the spread of this misinformation immediately, as we do not tolerate slander in any of its forms.

We also request that immediately the provision quoted above be removed, as it is detrimental to Mediterranean stability and to the Roman alliance with TIOR as a whole. Creating divisions creates factions, and creating factions creates war. The Roman government is not interested in bringing the Mediterranean to the brink of war, and sees this action- with the provision included- by TIOR as an attempt to wrest members away from the Confederacy and to undermine considerably the power and abilities of the Confederacy. We will also not lie, but the Roman government believes this move is an attempt to trample us and our initiative for a positive, peaceful atmosphere in the Mediterranean. The Confederacy has done nothing to hurt you, so why openly attack the Confederacy and pillage us for members? It is almost tantamount to an act of war.

However, should the following be assured by TIOR, we will retract our negative statements:

1) The quoted provision will be removed

2) Members will NOT be pilfered from the Confederacy and will only gain members by nations voluntary joining the IMA

3) Existing alliances and alliance structures between nations are not tampered with (i.e. an alliance, for example, between Cotland and Rome is not annulled simply because Cotland is in the IMA and Rome is in the Confederacy)

4) Confederacy interests are NOT interfered with in any way, shape or form

5) The IMA and the Confederacy will work together, preferably establishing a firm alliance with each other (and maybe even merging together)

and,

6) The unity, peace and economic profitability of the Mediterranean is preserved and maintained at all costs.

Since the Roman government believes that a peaceful solution can be achieved and the strong alliance between TIOR and Rome be maintained, we are hopeful that TIOR will be willing to discuss the terms of a working partnership with Rome regarding the Confederacy and the IMA. However, should TIOR move to create the IMA as an organization to strictly oppose the Confederacy and all of its interests (and refuse to work with the Confederacy at all), then we will treat this as an act of war and will act accordingly.

Signed,
Rodin Hartian,
293rd Emperor of Rome

OOC: Rose, to be honest, after I read the quote I got upset. I won't lie, but I do feel undermined. I qualify that I may be overreacting (I can do that...), so if I am let me know. Thanks.

Official Statement from The Grand Imperial Empire of The Island of Rose:

The Empire didn't mean to give that image. We are glad that the Confederacy's goals were cleared up. You see, the Empire had no wish to join the Confederacy even though they had land in the Sea. We merely felt threatened and acted on it, nothing more. The Empire does not want to alienate Rome, one of our closest allies. Therefore, we agree with one through six. We would like to hold a meeting in Rose City, where we can discuss this in detail. And where we might be able to resolve the situation in Cuba. The last thing the Empire needs is a war against its own brothers. We hope other members can agree.

No worries then. We hereby retract our negative statements and express our intent to attend a conference in Rose City to discuss IMA-Confederacy relations. We are happy that The Island Of Rose extends its hand in support and that no ill feelings will arise as a result of this. Besides, as a Roman ally you should never feel threatened by us- why would we threaten our allies?

I will attend the conference personally, and will encourage other Confederacy members to attend the conference as well. The Mediterranean is our most important resource, and thus we must do our best to protect it in the interests of all of us.

#1-It might be a good idea to post everybody already in the alliance on the front page
#2-We are in the process of trying to buy Ceuta (spainsh territory in Morocco), if it suceeds we will consider joining, we must study both the IMA and the Roman Confederacy first, so far we're leaning towards you

Official Communication From the Offices of the High Sultan
Members of the Imperial Mediterreanean Alliance;

As you have most likely heard, Hogsweat, our neighbor, has threatened military action against us in Bahrain. Many of the foriegn community have either ignored or even supported the Communist superpower in trying to overcome smaller, weaker, ones. Our only strong allies in the world seem to be The Lightning Star and Samtonia, so I come to you to ask for aid in our most desperate time. We understand that we have no territory in the Sea, but if you intend to stop the Confederacy from becoming a tool of Emperors and warlords, let it begin now, the fate of our entire country is in your hands.
