Earth II - the Suez Canal

Cotland

ooc: This is to mark to all nations in Earth II that I, Cotland, own the Suez Canal, and that any nation other then close allies (Baltic Karelia) and members of the Roman Confederacy will need to pay.

ic:
Price list - Suez Canal

Civilian vessels:
0 - 100 000 tons : 10 000 Coins
100 000 - 350 000 tons : 50 000 Coins
350 000 - 800 000 tons : 100 000 Coins
800 000 - : 250 000 Coins

Military vessels:
Small combatants (patrol craft, corvettes, frigates, etc) : 100 000 Coins
Medium combatants (destroyers, cruisers, etc) : 250 000 Coins
Large combatants (dreadnaughts, carriers, battleships, etc): 500 000 Coins
Supply vessels: 50 000 Coins

All vessels wishing to cross must list tonnage, cargo, value and nation/port of call to the Suez Canal Authority.

All warships that request passage must keep all systems other then propulsion and basic navigational systems (GPS, radar) offline during the crossing of the Canal and while in Cottish waters.

All vessels, civilian and military alike, attempting to cross the canal must be subject to inspection of Cottish military officials, and must have a Cottish pilot aboard at any time.

If any vessel attempt to pass with offensive/defensive systems online, they will be refused passage and escorted away from Cottish territorial waters.

Submarines will not be allowed passage thru the Suez Canal, due to national security reasons.

Any ship, civilian and military alike, belonging to a member state of the Roman Confederacy will have free passage thru the Canal. They must follow the rules for passage though.

The terms listed are non-negotionable, and the Suez Canal Authority reserve the right to refuse ships to pass.

More may come. I reserve the right to add/remove/alter things on this list...

Official Statement from The Grand Imperial Empire of The Island of Rose:

The Empire would like to to ask a question. Since the Empire is allied to Rome through the New Roman Empire (don't forget the "The"), would the Empire have free access through the Canal? A discount? Something? The Empire is very interested. And so am I personally.

Yes, the Roman Confederacy members would only have to pay a fee of 0.1% of the ship value no matter how large (or small) the vessel is. If it is military or civilian doesn't matter.

ooc: another good reason to join the Confederacy.

how would you determine value of a battleship, particularily if it is old or nonstandard? Aside from this lack of clarity we think it is perfectly agreeable

Basicly by armament, age, and tonnage.

Large combatants (dreadnaughts, carriers, battleships, etc): 2% of total value

With military ships, I calculate $10 000 per ton, in addition to $1000 per caliber (1" = 1000, 2" = 2000, etc). I also deduct $1000 per year in service. If age is unknown, I don't deduct anything. Then I take the mentioned percentage of the final calculation as the passage price.

The Earthquake-class Battleship:

Main Guns: 18"
Age: Unknown
Tonnage: 95 000 tons

Passage price: $19 000 360

The Layarteb-class Battleship:

Main Guns: 16"
Age: Unknown
Tonnage: 72 857 tons

Passage price: $14 571 720

What's the deepest draft your canal supports?

We've widened it a little while ago. Right now, it is 28 meters (92,4 ft) at it's shallowest.

Oh well. Thanks for the info. As you can see my ships are too wide to fit through that canal. It's all good I really don't think I'll be going over there to be honest.

Due to the massive international protests regarding the Cottish demand for payment for passage thru the Suez Canal, and the threath of war, the Imperial Government has decided that the Suez Canal shall not charge vessels for the percentage of their value, but rather have a set price.

Also, any vessel belonging to a member state in the Roman Confederacy will have free passage thru the Suez Canal. This will only apply to those who are members, and not to any member who choose to leave the Confederacy. Active membership is therefor a requirement.

We hope that this will clarify the situation, and that relations between Cotland and nations who protested can be restored to their original or better status.
