St. Petersburg, Baltic Karelia
Official communiqué from the President's desk
Due to rumors that the nations of Gintonpar and USSR (Hogsweat) are on the fall, we feel pressured to mobilize our Military Might, and raise our Defcon level from five to four.
This means that the border patrols are patrolling more frequently, no one may come in to our leave the country without passing through a security control. Leaves are cancelled, and a buildup of fuel and oil for the Military Might has begun. The latter will probably lead to a raise in the fuel prices around the country, but we ask the fuel companies to try to keep the prices down.
For the first time in many years we have to leave Defcon five, and we hope that it will be temporarily. We also hope that the situation for our neighbors will be solved in a peaceful way.

The Cottish ambassador to Baltic Karelia reported home that the Karelians had gone to a higher state of readiness due to the political problems in neighbouring Gintonpar and USSR, both being neighbours to Cotland aswell. It was recomended that the Cottish government replied similarly to the situation.
Cotlandstad, Cotland
Emperor Thomas sat in the council with the Defence Minister, the Field Marshall of the Armed Forces and the rest of the Generals and Admirals. The current topic was the political instability in the neighboring republics, and the increased Karelian readiness.
The Field Marshall argued strongly for an increase in the Cottish readiness, as a resort for discourage the unstable republics from any thoughts they might have about invasion. Invasion of a foreign country was a common way of trying to gain the people's hearts and loyalty to their country (ooc: RL Example --> The Falklands war, Argentina invaded to calm the people down).
The restructioning of the military was well underway, and several new items of military was en route, including a new destroyer class for the Navy.
The Defense Minister didn't really want to appear to be a warmonger, and argued mildly against the Field Marshall. The Emperor just sat back and listened to the arguments made. After half an hour of discussion, the Emperor claimed the word, and spoke out.
Emperor: I've heard enough. We will increase the military readiness, and post several brigades in defensive positions along the USSR and the Gintonparian border. We will also increase the fighter presence. Have fighters on stand-by 24/7. I want fighters in the air at all times. Any questions?
No-one raised a hand or spoke out. They all accepted the decision of the Emperor.
Emperor: Good. Now then. Place the border guards on increased alert, the rest of the armed forces to DefCon Purple.
With that matter settled, they moved on to the next point on the agenda: How to get more money from the Lightning Star. :)

The Secretary of Defense, Ken Karlsson, received a phone call from one of the Karelian Intelligence officers in Cotland:
"Sir, I have two important things here. First the easy one, but probably the one which concerns you most. I've received a report from the Cottish Intelligence Service, which tells that the war in Belarus may escalate. Aequatio is attacking Germanian troops amongst the border between Belarus and Poland. The risk for a bigger war is fairly high. As it is in our neighborhood you may want to do something about it. I know we already have gone to Defcon 4, but is it enough? Well that's up to you to decide." Said the Intelligence officer.
Ken Karlsson replied:
"That was not good news at all. We thought that peace was coming to Belarus. We maybe must go to Defcon 3.We don't want to be caught with our pants down. OK, if that was the easy one, what's the hard one then?" asked Karlsson. He wasn't sure if he wanted to hear it, but he must listen.
"Well, you know, our base in Egypt… We might be forced to use it. Cotland is worried about a threat from Israel. It was something about that they are ready to pass through the Suez-canal by force is they don't let them through… I don't have any more information about that, I think it's best you talk to your contacts in Cotland about this. I hope that I have misunderstood everything, but I don't think so."
"OK, thank you. It was no good news this time, but you have done a great job!" Karlsson hang up and immediately ran into the president's room.
He reproduced the two situations for the president, General Karl Andersson. When he was done Andersson says:
"Very bad news. First, we must go to Defcon three and prepare our troops. Get one amphibious assault battle group and one rotary wing battle group ready for departure immediately. They should be located in the Gulf of Finland in three hours. Regarding the situation in Egypt, there's nothing we can do about it at the moment, apart from raising the Defcon level to three. We must talk to Cotland before we can do anything."

I can come to Cotlandstad in about three hours. I'll take the governmental air plane. Should be no problems, only flying over our territories. However, I will be escorted by five JAS-39 Gripen's.
See you,
Carl

Subject Unsure about whose side your on in Central Europe
Greetings again from your neighbor nation, Pyschotika. We have been paying attention to this major escalation in Belarus, and are a little hazy on your position. Knowing your connection with Cotland, I think were on the same side. We need to ensure your on North Germania's side of this war too. Once this is clarified, I think we can form a pretty nice attack plan.

Dear Mr Reckmire,
The situation in northern Europe seems to be a bit complicated. As we are allies with Cotland, and we have good relations with you as our friendly neighbor to the west, the easiest solution would be to join the allied side in this conflict.
However, and here's the problem, we have received many signs that leads us in the direction that Northern Germany is provoking Aequatio to attack him. I don't know if you did see the report from the Wick?
Anyway it's against Karelian constitution to help an allied to invade another country. If we do that, we'll break our own laws. To us it seem like Northern Germania is the aggressor here.
To clarify things: We will not go into this war to defend the by Northern Germania occupied Belarus.
Another thing: We're worried of the military buildup amongst the border to The Wick, on the Belarusian side. We're worried that the war is coming further north.
With respect,
Ken Karlsson, Secretary of Defense

OOC: Ken Karlsson has arrived safely in Cotlandstad. Let's go to the meeting.

This situation in northern Europe is very problematic. Here's a telegram I've sent to Mr. Reckmire in Pyschotika earlier today (hands over the message earlier posted here). Our standpoint is pretty clear declared there.
If you don't have any other evidence that may convince me that I'm wrong, then we have to follow our settled line.
And the other issue, about IDF and the Suez-canal seems to have solved in a peaceful way? Let's see what happens with Greece…

Robert Vance (Foreign Minister) and Phil Shaw (Defence Minister) sat with Karlsson in the Ministry of Defence.
Vance: We don't really have any other evidence then the footage from the Germanians. But our honor as a nation demands that we assist our allies in case of war.
Shaw: We aren't telling you to come and fight alongside us. If you don't want to get involved in Belarus, that's perfectly fine by us. And the situation with Greece seems to improve. The Roman Empire have gotten involved and asked that Greece sit down with us and talk.
Vance: As I'm sure you know, we always opt. for the diplomatic sollution before resorting to military measures. This incident is no different. We may need all the assistance we can get. I'm pretty sure the Germanians will help us out, but I'm not too sure about the rest..

Karlsson: "I can understand your standpoint here. If we were allied with North Germania the situation would maybe be totally different. But we hardly has any kind of connections with them."
"I'm also satisfied that you're not demanding something from us. Our primary goal is to defend Baltic Karelia and our close allies. But we cannot go into a third country and defend an ally who is defending an ally, which is annexing another country. We have laws against that in Baltic Karelia. However, there is a small growing opinion that wants to lift this ban, but I don't think it will happen in the next ten years."
Karlsson's cell-phone rings
"Excuse me gentlemen." He rose from his seat and walked to the window where he answered the call.
"Ken. Hi. Ok. OMG! Well, I'll try to speed this up! Bye"
"It was from St. Petersburg. I'm sorry, but I'll have to leave in one hour. Don't know if you know this, but there is some kind of nuclear threats in the war. President Andersson has ordered our anti-ballistic-missiles on-line. I must help him to prepare everything."

Shaw: We understand. Similar threaths have been aimed towards Cotland, and our ABM system is online. Good luck to you sir.

We can understand where you stand at about this. We are not presurring you either. But our nation is also mostly in this war because we know being allied to North Germania means that we will be invaded by either Kriegorgrad or The WIck unless we buildup, regardless if we were helping militaristicly or not. Yes North Germania seems a little aggressive, but it is in there blood to be that way. I assure you though, the forces he has built up along the boarder isn't the size of his ussual attacking wave. Its mostly Artillery and his Special units, I think it is fair enough to call that a Defensive force. Also, Aequatio gave us ( well NG ) trouble when North Germania annexed the rest of Belarus, which I believe was the right thing for Belarus to do. The Eastern half was in total chaos and needed a Government again, no one else was going to do it so North Germania did. North Germania didn't know whether to buildup defences on his boarders or not, and he did. I think it was smart, like the old saying " Better safe then sorry. " But if you wish to remain neutral, then may that be. But my Nation asks of you to be there if we really need you, like if we are invaded from the North by Kriegorgrad, or assaulted from the South by The WIck. We will also still be here if anyone in the future decides to assault you. Good Day.
P.S.
We really wish you could aid in anyway possible, but we don't demand that you do. It is your choice and if your law prohibits this kind of stance in war, then we have no problem with that.
