Ministry of Foreign Affairs Press Release
This morning, after concluding extensive negotiations with his Israeli counterpart, Foreign Minister Zaki Mohammed signed a mutual security treaty, that will safeguard the peoples of United Elias and the State of Israel against extremist attacks. This document does not change the policy of United Elias towards the Palestinian people, and our government will continue to allow peaceful Palestinians to emigrate across the border and live in our country rather than in refugee camps, which not only benefits them, but also reduces the problems within the West Bank and Gaza strip. However, by sharing intelligence information, and working increasingly together the Israeli and Elias security organisations can better combat fundamentalist groups that kill innocent civilians in Israel and occasionally on our territory as well. The Foreign Minister and our President are committed to a peaceful resolution to the issues that exist between Arabs and Jews in the Levant region, and such a resolution cannot exist until violence and the people intent on violence are wiped out.
By signing such a treaty with the State of Israel, the government of United Elias is once again building on an already cordial relationship that has existed between our two states and this paves the way for for further co-operation in the future. However, it is important to note that this relationship is by no means signifying a siding with the Israelis over Palestinians, but a recognition that a strong relationship between Israel and Elias is the most productive way of securing safety and building mutual tolerance of Arabs and jews in our region. In over a century of secular rule, blind to religous and racial differences, United Elias is proof that such a society can exist in the Middle East, and we will spare no effort in achieving a similar result in this situation, and we believe our government has already achieved significant progress in bringing about peace talks between the factions.
