Ayutthaya, Marimaia

"Your Excellency, we have received confirmation from Taiwanese authorities. They have answered our invitation."

Chiisu Suun smiled slightly as he swung the Tatsuko Sayo sword in a slow arc before answering.

"Rongyi, that's the best news I've heard all day. Inform them that we will be pleased to host them in Taishita; also say that we are humbly honoured by their acceptance of our invitation, and we hope that other Chinese representatives will follow their lead. We have a great deal to talk about, after all."

Foreign Minister Rongyi Bei nodded. "Of course, Your Excellency. Shall I ask Dianyun to release the story?"

"Of course. The people need to know that their Tiger King is doing everything he can to secure their future."

People's Daily News evening bulletin:

"Our top story tonight: in yet another wise move, His Excellency's government has announced that Taiwanese representatives will soon be visiting our great nation for talks on various issues such as trade, regional politics and the like. It is hoped that representatives from other Chinese states will join in, as the Foreign Ministry wishes to hold a comprehensive conference with as many of our northern neighbours as possible. Miho?"

"Thanks Honji! With Premier Supachai in Beth Gellert at a different conference, it is hoped that we are stepping into a new era of peace in Asia. Our enlightened Tiger King, His Excellency Chiisu Suun, has shown his wish for cooperation once again; we hope that other nations are as peace-minded as we Marimaians are."

"Thank you Miho. On the subject of other nations, we would like to extend a warm welcome to viewers in Burma and Malaysia, watching on satellite channel MariOne. Thanks for joining us, and we hope you are enjoying Marimaian broadcasting. In other news tonight..."

"That's great news," Zhang said on his satellite phone in the lobby of a hotel overlooking the Thames, "For obvious reasons, I can't make it so I would like you to go handle the talks."
"Thank you President. I'll get the ball rolling."

-------------------------------

Our delegation to Taishita will comprise of four personel - the Minister of Finance Bill Wong, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Li Mei Hu, and their aides.

We eagerly anticipate that relations between our two nations will blossom.

Ayutthaya Palace was swarming with activity as preparations continued for the arrival of the delegations. The palace itself was to be the venue for the talks, so guest quarters were receiving a last minute organisation while the main conference hall was decked out with flags from all participating nations. The NeoSuun Guard stepped up their patrols of the surrounding area, and agents of the Internal Security Force (ISF) were placed in nearby residential areas to keep an eye out for suspicious behaviour.

The Marimaians would be represented at the talks by His Excellency Chiisu Suun in person, along with Economics Minister Kangtian Wei and Foreign Minister Rongyi Bei.

(OOC: I don't know if you guys want to RP the arrival of your delegations, or we can go straight into the talks. It's up to you.)

OOC:I guess its tradition, lol, we'll rp the arrival.

The plane had landed safely in Marimaia, and Yeh and his Guards and several Imperial officials had accompanied him on his trip and will also take part in the conference.

The jack was unlocked, and Yeh walked out and smiled and slightly waved. Following him, were officials, many wearing traditional Han Fu's, or Han clothing from the Imperial court, with many other's wearing the modern collar cut suits, or commonly known as Mao Suits in the West.

The delegation was grand, and traditional. With servants carring bags, which contain much of the documents they will need for the conference.

Deputy Foreign Minister Juyi Wang was assigned to greet the Xiannese at the airport, and he bowed his head slightly as Yeh approached.

"Most honourable Prime Minister, it is a pleasure to welcome you to Marimaia. His Excellency sends his regards, and will meet you once we arrive at Ayutthaya Palace. On behalf of the Marimaian people, I hope that our two great nations can make history with these talks."

Wang snapped his fingers, and two young children walked forward to present Yeh with large bunches of peony flowers.

Yeh clasped his hands and greeted Minister Wang. Accpeting the beautiful flowers, the children were given gold jaded bracelets as a token Xiaguo.

As the Ministers talked, the accompanying royals soon took off their robes and were now in Qing styled clothing, much nicer to wear in a Tropical zone. Golden umbrellas were opened, and the Imperial delegation walked over to the cars which were to transport them to the palace.

As the Taiwanese delegation arrived at the palace, they waited for an escort.

As the Taiwanese arrived at the palace, several NeoSuun Guardsmen saluted as the Royal Consort, Tian Yao, strode down the palace steps. A small group of porters appeared to unload the delegation's luggage while Tian addressed them. He smiled politely, something he was doing much more regularly than when Chiisu was merely Premier.

"My friends, welcome to Ayutthaya Palace. For those who do not know me, I am Tian, consort of the Tiger King. Our porters will take your luggage up to your rooms; please follow me, His Excellency wishes to see you before any official business begins."

Tian led the Taiwanese through the various winding corridors of the palace until they reached the main study; as they entered, Chiisu Suun beamed excitedly at them.

"At last we meet! Ah, our nations have a great deal to discuss, but first I would like to get to know the representatives sent by my esteemed Taiwanese counterpart. Would anyone like some tea?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wang made small talk with Yeh as the small convoy made its way to the palace; once the Xiannese arrived, their luggage was taken to their rooms while Yeh and his accompanying officials were taken to join the Taiwanese in having tea with the Tiger King.

Bill Wong was slightly surprised by the presence of the Xiannese delegation, for he had not expected them to be there.

"Yes, I'd love to try some Marimian tea. I'm Bill Wong and this is Li Mei Hu," gesturing at his female companion.

"Good morning Mr. Wong, and Ms. Li. Nice to meet you here in this wonderful setting. Don't mind the tea, Marimaians are very generous."

Yeh, along with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yang Mei Qing, and Sichuan Prince, Zhou Xi Qian and several accompanying officials were dressed in traditional garments suitable for the palace. The palace was grand and friendl exchanges were met with more friendly exchanges at the table. The Xiannese were still waiting and wondered when will such a conference begin.

After the pleasantries had finished, the Taiwanese and Xiannese were escorted to the main conference hall. The hall was tastefully decked out with Marimaian, Xiannese, Taiwanese and Vietnamese flags; in the centre was a large circular table surrounded by luxurious comfortable chairs. Refreshments were laid out on trolleys which were within arms' reach of the delegates.

Chiisu Suun gestured for everyone to take their seats, and he began.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we have invited you here in the interests of peace and cooperation. Asia is currently facing a serious problem in the form of Western 'intervention'; China is being attacked by Hudecia, a nation which is responsible for Kalla being in control of much of Indonesia. While Hudecia directly attacks the north, their pet Islamicist undermines the south."

He took a sip of water before continuing. "Today we have a regional friend with us who expressed an interest in joining any dialogue that Marimaia holds with China. Please welcome Dinh Xuan Lanh, Minister Without Portfolio for the Vietnamese government. As Vietnam has a Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation with Marimaia, and is currently finalising a similar treaty with Xiaguo, it makes sense for him to be here."

Dinh nodded to the delegates before taking a seat. Suun smiled graciously at him and finished his opening speech.

"It is in our best interest to finalise some form of cooperation between our nations. Not just in the face of the current battles in Asia, but for long-term prosperity and stability. On the table you will find a small document detailing the agenda we have set out; if you wish to make any changes as we go along, feel free to ask."

The document contained proposals regarding economic cooperation, diplomatic relations and possible military ties. However, these proposals were deliberately vague; although the Marimaians had their ideas, they wanted to hear what everyone had in mind first. Suun smiled politely at the other delegates.

"So, does anyone have any initial comments?"

Bill Wong looked over the documented proposals, while Li Mei glanced over his shoulders.

"The trade proposals appear to be somewhat vague, but amiable to both our nations." Bill said as he glossed over the paragraphs detailing tariff reductions, free trade, red-tape cutting. "May I ask one question though - would you allow a Taiwanese company to invest in Marimaia's national infrastructure? Namely, the strategic energy landbridge?"

Li Mei looks through her bag for a prospectus, awaitng the Premier's response before placing it on the table.

OOC: Just to clear things up, Chiisu Suun used to be Premier; he's now the Tiger King.

IC:

Suun yielded to Economics Minister Kangtian Wei, who nodded at Wong.

"We'd originally planned to make the landbridge a national works project, but I see no harm in allowing Taiwanese investment; I'm sure our Energy Minister would agree. While we're on the subject of investment, would either Taiwan and/or Xiaguo be interested in investing in our proposed canal through the Kra Peninsula? We've had it on the table since the Bonstock War; it'll allow shipping to sail directly from the Gulf of Thailand to the Bay of Bengal without having to navigate round Singapore and the Malacca Straits. Given the ongoing problems in Borneo and the rise of expansionist Islam in the rest of Indonesia, the canal would provide a much safer alternative route.

I think that the increased economic freedom we're proposing will benefit us all greatly."

OOC: The Marimaian capital is called Taishita. It's where Nakhon Nayok is on this map:

However, the conference is being held at the Ayutthaya Palace complex, which is located where Ayutthaya is on the above map.

"We wish to hear of the projected funds required for the project before we can reach back on the issue with an approved decision." requested Yeh.

"How and what ways can this canal benefit Xiaguo?" asked Zhou. "Will there be, apart from merchant, cargo ships; millitary naval craft allowed through the canal?

"I believe many Taiwanese companies will be keen to invest in the canal project, in both the construction process and ownership of the final going concern. Perhaps we could finalise a date for the tendering process?"
Marimaia
05-02-2005, 19:05
Minister Wei took a sip of water. "Our projections indicate that the Kra Canal will cost approximately $16 billion (USA) and will take about 5-6 years to construct. Admittedly it will be a long-term investment, but consider what we would get from it. It would decrease travel times, resulting in cheaper trade; it would also allow vessels to bypass the Indonesian area, which is already starting to act with hostility towards its northern neighbours. Naturally Marimaia would benefit greatly from the increased traffic moving through our territory, but the rest of Asia would benefit as well. We would all be able to transport commodities more quickly and cheaply. In addition there would be opportunities for Asian companies to build the sea ports, export processing facilities and industrial zones which would exist at both ends of the canal.

As far as military vessels are concerned, I would imagine that they could pass through provided that their presence didn't endanger the canal. Anyway, regarding the tendering process; we would prefer to start sooner rather than later, but we would also prefer to give all companies time to put forward their offers. I would say that all companies would have about six months to submit their proposals after we officially open the tendering process; however, let us just say that we have no qualms about Chinese companies receiving a slight advance warning."

After a brief exchange of words, Col. Edward Huang stepped on the 747 in his local AFB. It'll be a tough time, since his life and reputation is now on the line. If he had managed to keep his mouth shut, his talents in persuasion and negotiation would have been a secret. If he had kept his dick in his pants, this would not be happening!

Won't take long, only six hours of flight. Better look into that briefcase next to him. It looks to be fairly simple. The plan is to befriend the Marimaians, since both sides see the Hudecians as the prophet of doom.

Looking out the window, a pair of J-10s soon joined the 747 on the mission to Nakhon Nayok.

Xiannese Government is willing to contribute 6.8 billion dollars in the building of the Canal. Many Xiannese firms have also joined in paying for the construction of the canal, and has total to about 2.3 billion dollars. The canal can prove effective for many of the trade going on which require to go around Thailand and through Indonesia.

Li Mei, who has remained quiet so far, speaks for the first time.

"I'm sure Taiwanese companies will easily find the funds for the project and will be preparing tenders very soon. It'll be a good idea to keep an eye on the business sections of newspapers for stockmarket issues, et lal.

While we're on the subject of stockmarkets, the Taipei Exchange has proposed a 4-way common stockmarket. While this idea is in it's formative stages, it would do no harm to discuss it. Obviously my government is supportive of this idea, any other suggestions?"
Marimaia
06-02-2005, 20:27
Minister Wei nodded. "A four-way common stockmarket is certainly an interesting idea, but why stop there? As you may have heard, Marimaia has created a common market with Burma and Malaysia; we are currently negotiating with Vietnam regarding their entry. Why not expand it to encompass the whole of Southeast Asia and China? We could provide the basis for an Asia-wide common market which would consistently out-perform every other market on Earth."

An aide walked in and whispered to Suun, who interrupted Wei.

"Forgive me for interrupting, but I have just been informed that a delegate from Sino will be arriving shortly. Perhaps if we take a short break and resume the discussions once he arrives?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Deputy Foreign Minister Wang smoothed his hair back as he arrived back at the airport. After driving all the way to Ayutthaya with the Xiannese, he now had to return to pick up the Sinoese delegation. Thankfully, this time a helicopter ha been provided.

This is it. An opportunity to make some history.

Wang inspected the welcoming committee before turning to await the arriving delegate.
