BASIC STORY
In 2006 China finally overtakes the United states in GDP and GNP after years of sweeping reforms and economic encouragement by the Chinese government. This not only removes american economic supremacy but leaves china secure enough to bulk up its military.
2007 The EU Merges together into the Federated States of Europe, with the Exception of Great Britain who maintains the previous level of integration (economic). This Displaces china’s economic position and leaves the american government feeling increasingly insecure.
2008 China Invades Taiwan, the United states attempts to stop this with a limited conflict and fails, this inability to defend its allies leaves many questioning whether america can survive in this new world. Alberta formally states its independence after a long running dispute over governmental and provincial rights and secedes from the dominion of Canada becoming the Republic of Alberta.
Later that year British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Yukon State there independence. Quebec soon follows.
2009 It becomes apparent that none of the western Canadian states can support themselves on there own after 3 months of recession British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Yukon and Alberta merge into the Republic of Canada, and inspired by this move the Alaskan State Government raises the question of Secession and demands that the US government recognise the Republic of Canada. After short negotiations it is apparent this will not happen, and Alaska secedes from the United States, and after short skirmishes between Loyalist and Alaskan Troops is recognised by both China and the Federated States of Europe. After a few weeks, New York, Maryland and New Jersey declare there independence, after a long distrust of republican governments and join together into the Free States of New York and Maryland.
2010 after an economic recession caused by the loss of new york, and public opposition to retaking the states by force, the more conservative Mid west that had wanted military action leaves the Union, this loss of such a stretch of territory causes a ripple effect with states unconfident in the abilities of there governments. The US commences military action on some of the secessionist states, but is overrun by state militias and military units loyal to there states.
The UN seeing how things will go evacuates to Belgium and NATO orders the seizure or destruction of all american nuclear arms, Chinese, European and Russian Units attack or seize those installations and Units reported to NATO in a one day surprise assault. But the remaining 10% of weapons is hushed away by state governments and Militias - All MRBM and ICBM accounted for.
2011 In an Unexpected move, a tactical Nuclear weapon is detonated in Washington DC by the South Dakotan Free Peoples Militia. This leads to wide spread international panic and UN peace keeping forces deploy to the region to pry the states apart, a diplomatic effort then ensues to either solidify or reunify the new nations.
2013 After a year of Peace in America the republics of Quebec and Canada attack the remainder of the Dominion and are pushed back by Dominion Forces and only making small territorial gains. A treaty is signed acknowledging the independence of both, and shortly after the treaty the expansionist Republic of Canada looks to its south and Invades Washington State
With the threat of nuclear obliteration gone, Cuba invades Florida, Jamaica and Haiti. They completely capture Haiti and Jamaica but there advance is slowed to a halt in Florida.
The UN and NATO withdraw hoping the situation to be stabilised, and small border skirmishes between the states begin again.
2015 All of the new states become recognised by the UN, and an international treaty is signed stating there neutrality to the conflict, Europe and china are quick to sign the treaty as they are already fearing a second cold war.
