MS Makes Last Demands to Sevaris, or else war.

Standing before the full assembly of the Revolutionary Command Council, the Czar Roger Fabus, was wearing his white uniform, the cap with the imperial eagle slightly tilted to the right on his head, his hair neatly combed and mostly covered by the cap.

His baton was gripped firmly in his left hand; he glanced up at the balcony seats and then back to the camera, before he started to speak.

"It has come to my attention that several months ago when Sevaris threatened to close the Straits of Gibraltar to Mississippi, that many companies based in Mississippian Egypt, or that have ships that used the Straits, suffered major financial setbacks. To correct this problem, we have a clear solution.

Sevaris will immediately yield control of Gibraltar to the Mississippian Federation.

Furthermore, Sevaris will pay three trillion dollars in restitution to the Mississippian Federation for attempting to use terror tactics to shatter consumer confidence in our nation and to scare investors from investing their capital into Mississippian Egypt.

We will not allow rogue nations to hold our Federation hostage or hold our allies hostage. Nor will we allow rogue nations to hold our trade hostage. Sevaris has proven they cannot objectively administer Gibraltar, and they have proven they will be a continued threat to our interests in regards to movement of ships to Mississippian Egypt, if we allow them to maintain control in Gibraltar.

Thus the solution is clear; we will have Gibraltar, one way or another. Sevarisin government officials have seventy-two hours to agree to negotiations to start a plan for the transfer of Gibraltar from Sevarisin to Mississippian control. Disobedience will not be tolerated."

Official Statement from The Grand Imperial Empire of The Island of Rose:

Sevaris has the legal right to close the Gibralter to you, like it or not. Threatning with war is too extreme. I am sure that a diplomatic agreement can be met. If not, the Empire will not be afraid to aid Sevaris in its defense. But we recommend that diplomatic measures are tried first. The pen is deadlier then the sword.

1:00 AM, Madrid Time: Outside Chatham Hill.

Kaiser Alec Mannerheim was standing with his wife, Kaiserine Yuna in the courtyard of Chatham Hill, the Imperial Residence. Yuna stepped up to the podium.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I know it's 1:00 AM. But, we are all in the middle of the biggest test of our administration in years.

We have been threatened by the Fabus regime of Mississippi. Apparently, we're his latest victim. I would like to ask the Czar if he thinks for a second that we will agree to his absurd and utterly stupid demands.

The answer is clearly NO. I do not deny that Sevaris has threatened to close Gibraltar to MS shipping, but, that was out of our own national defence needs. We're not about to let him dictate that to us.

However, I know as well as you do that this crisis will not cease. We must work diplomatically to end this crisis. And so, I would like to take this chance to extend an offer to the Mississippian Government to begin talks over Gibraltar. We can work this out without bloodshed.

Thank you for your time, and may God extend his blessing on Sevaris."

SECRET IC:

Later on, after the confrence ended, Alec and Yuna were speaking.

Alec hugged her, "Great job, Yunie--brilliantly done. Hopefully, Fabus will agree."

Yuna wasn't so sure. "You really think so?"

"Yeah," Alec said. "I don't think he has the balls to attack us."

"Don't be so sure, Alec. Let's just keep our fingers crossed, and hope God is on our side."

The demands of the Mississipian Federation for control of Gibraltar reek of the demands by Nazi Germany for control of the Suedentland. The Kingdom of Malkyer for one will not stand by and watch as one nation makes unjust demands of another. As such, I urge both parties to take part in negoticiations in a neutral state in order to avoid unnecessary bloodshed.

The choice is obvious, give us our small and reasonable demands, and we'll spare you a massive invasion and war that would ultimately ruin you. Official Message from Shah Khosru III, Celestial Seed of the Divine, Worshipper of Ahura Mazda

I, Shah Khosru III, descendant of Sassan and ruler of Persia, give my full support to the Mississippian Czardom. Nations like Sevaris are little more than gigantic brothels ruled by whores like Yuna, streettrash raised to the level of Czarina. Yuna is a peasant unworthy of any position of rulership, for Ahura Mazda has deemed her to be evil, amoral, and deserving of death. She sleeps with ni---rs nightly and is known to engage in some of the most disturbing displays of horrible and disgusting sexual behavior. I deem her to be a peasant upstart and in need of purification. Her husband is another peasant upstart, without a line of kingship. He deserves nothing better than death.

Secret Dispatch to Kaiser Mannerheim and Kaiserine Yuna:
I must apologize for the brevity of this message; I fear time is short. In the absence of the King (he is attending a conference of the Ottoman Alliance), I am the acting leader of the Kingdom. In this capacity, I have discussed at length with my colleagues and intelligence and military leaders concerning the storm brewing over Gibraltar. We have discussed, and we have decided our course of action: We are with you. I do not know what forces I will be able to contribute, should it come to blows, for my nation is already facing possible hostilities with Kahta and the Dracun Imperium. Even if we cannot help you immediately, though, know this: we will not let you fall under the tyranny of the Fabus family. I have instructed the Royal Intelligence Agency to begin building a network in Mississippi, however I must confess I do not believe it will be of aid anytime soon. I will continue to act in diplomatic circles. Remember my words, and my your nation go with God.

Ministry of Defence
Imperium, Commonwealth Republic of New Britain

The small antiquated printer sat silent on its small metal shelf. The remainder of the room reeked of modern electronics, wafer-thin plastic display screens, obnoxiously large but super-powerful computers. Yet this little piece of hardware remained firmly routed in its old ways, reeling off documents off a feed attached to the paper through perforated strips that the spindles held. However, it once again felt the need to be used.

Lieutenant Astor sipped his green tea, imported from the southern colonies of the Commonwealth. The best tea in the whole of the Commonwealth in his own opinion. Astor maintained the small Ministry Office of Public Foreign Intelligence, despite its large official name, all he had to do was watch the damned television and read up on the international news online as it may pertain to ongoing Commonwealth operations. There was a much larger office, the main one in the military’s headquarters, but this represented that office in the building where Daniel Blair, the Minister of Defence, worked – and practically lived. It wasn’t a glamourous posting, but it got him out of the official rigour and strict discipline back at HQ since this outfit was run by the civvies.

Astor sipped his tea, and glanced as the third site online skimming the news… and then he found something. According to the Commonwealth News Network the Atlantic Ocean was beginning to heat up, and quite a few ships and aircraft were to be putting to sea from Mississippi. Granted, the two nations had never really crossed paths, but with the expected transit of the Yorke carrier group up through the Atlantic, he wouldn’t be taking any chances. Astor set his tea down on his desk and typed in a few commands, before the antiquated printer – which Astor positively hated for its slow speed and noise – spat out the data on paper.

HMS Swordfish
Somewhere in the Mid-Atlantic Deeps

Captain Walter TAGgert glanced at the daily messages from MoD. Nothing important, just standard scouting operations for the Yorke as it had been for days on end. However, the latest coming from the wires and from satellite reconnaissance showed the buildup of military forces in Mississippi held territory – including the planned deployment of ten battle groups across the Atlantic, through these very same waters.

God Damnit, he swore to no one in particular. He really didn’t understand why nations had to get into pissing contests. Granted he was no economist, he was paid just to drive this damn attack submarine, but it made no sense to him. If he remembered correctly, economies could have a short-term boom but a medium term bust if things didn’t go exactly quite right. Not to mention the loss of lives. Sadly, he had lost his only son in a recent conflict and fully understood the full price to be paid by a nation at war.

There were no threats to Commonwealth ships, and so long as they continued to fly the Royal ensign, they should be safe and out of harm’s way. It just meant a bit more vigilance and a bit more hated of international pissing contests.

From the Desk of the Chancellor

The Avadrian government in all aspects will remain neutral in this potential conflict. However we do see the argument of the Mississippian government as well as the Sevarin government. As a result of our neutrality in this issue the Empire is fully willing to open it's doors and host diplomatic talks to resolve this issue. In these hours matters like this must be handeled in a civil, diplomatic manner.

The clock fast approached the midnight hour. In the secret time of night, secret councils were held and secret decisions were made. In the Chamber of the Privy Council plans were being laid, and in the murmured discussions of the red shrouded men and women lay the deaths of thousands. Gillian Calymath drew back from a heated debate between Ezekiel Cheever and Sion Alderidge on morality and rested against the carved oak chair. Words, words, words of heat and passion but not as warm as spilt blood were bandied round the room as the clerics scratching on manuscript condemned the sons of Momanguise, of Sevaris, and of Mississippi. She had attended a play that day, though a different day when she did not have to spin golden death from living hay. Hamlet. As she recalled, a single soliloquy stuck in her mind, and she could not help giving her thoughts a quiet breath.

Tis now the very witching time of night,
When churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out
Contagion to this world: now could I drink hot blood,
And do such bitter business as the day
Would quake to look on.

Her vigil went unnoticed. The debates, the arguments in some cases, were clear in intention. Aid, military and economic, to Sevaris. Logistics were the problem, and the Privy Council was in furious debate over the matter. The hours went by, and as the torches burnt blue and cast deep shadows on the solemn scene a resolution appeared at hand. Calymath brought the hammer down, and in the silence that followed she dropped in the questions. "It appears that we are in at least some form of agreement. Sevaris needs aid. We are in a position to provide it. All naysayers?" She stared with a wary eye, when it came to the fascist regime any positive actions could later be construed as treachery if a member fell from grace. Not a single hand was raised. She allowed the council a brief smile, before concluding the formalities. "All ayes?", she said blandly, though she could see the result already. Starting with Sion Alderidge and Ezekiel Cheever, the hands were thrust into the air as more and more joined them until eleven stood proudly in the sleepy dusk. Calymath then added her own hand, and the process was complete. She drained her tankard of mead as the council did the same before they shuffled from the chamber, each nodding to Calymath as they passed her. She remained, and when the last footsteps echoed into silence she began to write.

Declaration for support for the soveriegn nation of Sevaris,
Passed by the Privy Council,
Signed by Madam Chair Gillian Calymath,
Counter signed by Koda, the Dread Lord of the Mountain Hall.

To all concerned parties,

Mississippi’s actions are in direct violation of both the NATO ultimatum and morality. Though Sevaris is not our traditional ally, we share a common purpose and love of the people, not some twisted fascist doctrine. Therefore, though we cannot speak for NATO, we will be raising the matter before the Council of Twelve and working towards NATO support for Sevaris.

As for the Grand Ideocracy of Momanguise, our position is clear. Any attack upon Sevaris is to be considered an attack on Momanguise, and therefore we offer our soldiers and other military material for immediate disposal at the hands of Sevaris, to be used in the defence of said sovereign land. The offer stands indefinitely, and the moment we receive your confirmation we will begin shipping of the Momanguise Armed Forces. We stand we with our Sevarian brothers and sisters till doomsday, and the very ends of the earth.

As to Mississippi, hear our warning. Cease your actions lest you feel our full dread wrath, lest your soldiers lie dead upon the fields of battle, and lest your rotten state comes crashing down around your brazen ears.

Resolution passed by the Privy Council,
Guardians of the peace,
Wardens of the Grand Ideocracy of Momanguise.

The plane landed smoothly and the Major of the SCODU Unit that had been sent stepped out first, too see if there where any Sevarin officials about. The SCODU Company consisted off a group of top soldiers, some women, some men, of mixed religions. They had all practiced with every weapon available; and chose their favourite;

SCODU: Special and Covert Ops for Defense of the Union

Each soldier also had 3 grenades, their 5" Combat Knife, a GPS Tracker, a spork, necessary equipment for their guns [laser sights, etc etc], maps, a Personal Role Radio (http://www.army.mod.uk/equipment/pw/prr.htm), and all sorts of headwear, including Steel Helmets, Boonie Hats, Ushanka's, Bandana's, and some wore no headgear at all. Their camouflage was perfect; they had studied Gibraltar at this time of year. Their GPS Trackers' would be able to tell them everything, including the finest contours of the land.

For the third time in the past five months the Halladi Airforce, or Hawks, had been told to be on Orange Alert. Several million logistical reserves had already been ordered to report for duty in the case of possible conflict, and the active duty Airborne Troops, paratroopers, were waiting for orders while logistics units were unloading various SAMs. Most pilots were in the air already.

The Air-Defense Grid was also at Orange Alert, and all SAM systems were active and trained on the sky. All civilian planes were being monitored and non-passenger planes had to clock-in and clock-out when they took off and landed.

"The Ministry of Defence has announced today that the 16th Imperial Fleet consisting of 60 surface warships and an air-strike wing of over 500 aircraft will be deployed to Gibraltar on a training exercise. It is expected that the Sevarian government will allow the Praetonian fleet to dock at Gibraltar, but supplies are not an immediate problem for the nuclear powered warships. The Prime Minister has strongly denied allegations that the deployment is part of a wider move to bring the Democratic Imperium closer into the troubles brewing between Decisive Action and Sevaris."

The Freethinkers
30-01-2005, 16:00
Fifty-four sleek needle-like hulls punctured the tranquil surface of the Mediterranean with little aplomb, the wake washing out behind each sleek form in a white frothy cone. Spread out over twenty five square miles of ocean, the small fleet nonetheless seemed awfully crowded. Such was the price to pay when travelling in closed in waters, but it left some of the officers on the various command ships feeling boxed in and far too vulnerable.

By quantitive measures, fifty-four ships, comprising a Leviathan Dreadnought, four carriers, eight huge assault ships and a myriad of powerful escorts (the largest of which, the Centaur-X class, could rival an Iowa in size) and a small number of supply and replenishment vessels, was not too much to look at, but the quality and professionalism of the ships and their crews meant there was few forces of similar size that could rival the fleets capabilities. Carrying two full Marine divisions just added to the power projection capability of the fleet.

When the order came to head towards Gibraltar, the CO of the fleet, Rear-Admiral Jansen Coke-Steele, had immediately turned the fleet on its head. The force was ordered to proceed, officially, to Gibraltar to ensure Freethinker interests in the area were protected. As a major maritime nation, disruption to trade and commerce was, simply put, very bad for business. When your nation relies upon open trade for its very survival, you come to appreciate what ‘Freedom of the Seas’ truly means.

However, no one was kidding themselves here. If the final push came both the Marines ashore, the carrier air groups and the warships themselves were going to staunchly defend ‘the Rock’. With the narrow roads and passes leading to the colony, any land attack with be little more than a shooting gallery for the massive warships, and any naval or aerial threat could dealt with in due course.

Here and now, powerful radar arrays, back by satellite guidance, dance across the horizon, ready to pick up a pre-emptive strike coming from the direction of travel. With safeties off and gunmen at standby, the fleet was prepared for most of the worst-case possibilities that could arise at any moment without warning.

And so the fleet steamed on, soon to reach Gibraltar the next morn, ready and waiting for the inevitable.

And the few who believed prayed long that night.

"Admiral Hawthorn, sir, message for you from the Ministry," said a young ensign on the bridge of the HMS Puget Sound, handing the admiral the piece of paper.

Hawthorn, the commanding officer for the 9th Fleet, read the message.

Admiral Hawthorn,

I fear that the hostilities between Sevaris and Decisive Action continue to build rather than dissipate. I do not want to be the one to provoke a war, but I will not have it said that the Kingdom did nothing to stop the spread of Mississippi's fascist dogma. As such, I want the 14th Carrier Battle Group and its detachment of Royal Marines to turn east and head towards Gibraltar. I have sent instructions to Admiral Hall as well, so you need not worry about him. He will take the CBG to a point about one hundred kilometers off of the north African coast, so as to be far enough away that they will not provoke anyone, but will be able to help Sevaris if need be. The rest of the Ninth Fleet will continue to the rendezvous in the North Atlantic.

Regards,

Henry Nagara

To all concerned parties,

Mississippi’s actions are in direct violation of both the NATO ultimatum and morality. Though Sevaris is not our traditional ally, we share a common purpose and love of the people, not some twisted fascist doctrine. Therefore, though we cannot speak for NATO, we will be raising the matter before the Council of Twelve and working towards NATO support for Sevaris.

"Wrong, the name on that old treaty with NATO read "Curtis Fabus", I am Roger Fabus, and as such, I cannot be held to things my father was involved with. I have refused to continue his policies of persecutions of jews, blacks, and others he disliked, and so to shall I refuse to continue upholding treaties he signed, in my opinion, in haste. I am Roger Fabus, and if you want a treaty with us now, you come to me. Old agreements with the previous government mean nothing to me.

I have made it clear I will not continue my father's policies of genocide, and so to shall I choose which treaties and other policies ought to be continued on. When governments change, treaties often mean nothing. This is one such case. Besides, Sevaris even admitted to attempting to strangle our trade. Statement from the Office of the Executor

"Sigh. Again Mr. Mannerheim bends over to appease the subhumans of Mississppi, much like the craven Minister Chamberlain during the Munich Conference.

Fortunately, the nation of Tyrandis do not suffer from such blatant cowardice. At this moment, I have issued the order to close off the Straits of Gibraltar with our submarines to any and all ships flying the flag of Decisive Action. We will not acknowledge the control of so vital a passage to barbarians.

Proceed at your own risk, Mr. Fabus, for our maritime force can and will shed the blood of your sailors to achieve our objectives."

We don't hate your "freedom". You hate the global idea of "freedom". As for talk, I am willing to do so, only if we can agree beforehand that Sevaris will not give up Gibraltar, nor will we be forced to keep it open for you all the time. Oh, and if you dare unleash nuclear war on us, I can't be held responsible for turning MS into an atomic slag pile.

From the Desk of the Chancellor

Although still maintaining a state of neutrality, it is the opinion of the Avadrian government that the nation of Sevaris should not remain in control of the straits. However we also believe that the nation of Mississippi should not as well. Such vital territory should be open to all ships regardless of their nationality.

Any nation who controls the straits controls shipping out of the Mediterranian. Such influence should not be put in the hands of a single nation.

RE: Gibraltar.

Rear-Admiral,
It appears after following diplomatic communiques that war now appears inevitable. You are to proceed at full speed to Gibraltar and establish a forward base of operations in order to halt Mississippian aggression and to ensure the continued opening of the Gibraltar straits.

These orders come at a difficult time, and with our forces stretched in our current patrol obligations immediate reinforcement will be difficult at best. Sevaris is treading nervously, they need to know they have friends and we will make sure that they are supported.

The Mississipian armed forces lack discipline and any real tactical insight, as such, the risk of a pre-emptive nuclear attack cannot and must not be ruled out. Although our homelands are relatively secure, we cannot garauntee this level of protection for our allies and as such we advise you to tread carefully should this issue come up. If engagement of nuclear weapons occurs with loss of life, however, you may, at your discretion use whatever tactical weapons are at your disposal.

Keep well, keep strong. Good luck and God speed.

FLEETCOM.

------

80 Miles West of Gibraltar

The fleet powered ahead, still unknowing of the future and still unsure as to what it could expect to face. The men aboard the fleet of ships simply went about their business as usual, but the air of anticipation, of wonder mixed with terror, was prevailant.

Twenty-four thousand men readied weapons and equipment for their arrival in Gibraltar. Part human, some vampire thrown in the mix created an interesting half-breed that now formed the bulk of Freethinker groundthumpers, hard hitting, punishment sponges that could tear apart opposing forces with unabashed brutality. Combat drugs and Geneng was no match for thousands of years of nature's tweaking, and the bloodstained skull that decorated the battle-standard of the Marine force was not some showpiece either.

And so with three hours til arrival the troops waited patiently. Some prayed, others trained, others still whiled away the time checking and rechecking the racks of rifles and other weapons, making sure everything was working fine for the insertion. Someone was going to have a bad day soon enough. It wasn't going to be them.
