I thought this might be a bit fun.
Basicaly a bunch of nations get together and establish a weekly/monthly newspaper, to post anything newsworthy happening in the world. We could get a few reporters, some cartoonists, opinion colums, and the like.

Mostly this would just be for fun, but it might be a nice way for people to hear about interesting events in the world, certain informants could tell us of evil schemes by megalomaniac national leaders raising secret armies and that sort of thing.

Anybody else think this is interesting?

Would it be IC or OOC? Also there are all the tech eras, would there be one for each era?

But really, it is a good idea. I coudld design the newspaper layout in MS Word. I kick ass at that, because I've done it before.

I think it would be IC. Most likely there would be modern and future sections in it.

I tried it before a year ago and it failed after its first issue. However, there are ways to get it to work. Well, I could probably help - give ideas, contribute, and all. I don't want this to fail like mine. My biggest mistake was probably creating a puppet nation for it instead of using my main nation.

We should make a NS publishing group - once I get my server I can host it up - on one part we can have the newspaper "publication" and my own Modern War Studies "publications"... however, this wouldn't be any time soon..but once I get, and set up the database, we can see how well it works out.000

I too tried to start one, a lot of people just got lazy and stopped looking for articles. I was basically writing it by myself after two days. However I'd love to help with yours.

I thought you ceased to exist over a year ago. On the parallel earths, I agree that there are too many of them. I am interested in an Internation Newspaper. I could contribute news from my nation.

I would be willing to help in any way and could write articles about Karuchea and the other nations in Green Revolution.

Er, well I'd like to write the occasional column....something on the lines of the old Wombat himself.

I would also be interested in having Pacitalian News Media SpA, owner of the national newspaper La Repubblica Oggia (The Republic Today) and the Pacitalian News Network - link (http://pacitalia.blogspot.com) among many other assets, purchase a stake in this new newspaper in a varying size - PNM are in the process of taking over the Sarzonian News Network but they would also be able to afford purchasing a share of this publication.

Editors: Make the articles the reporters write pretty, format newspaper.
Reporters: Write the stories.
"Photographers"/illustrators: Make/find the pictures for the articles.
Cartoonists: Think of it as a mini-webcomic.

For now I think we can stick to political stuff and a few comics of some sort, if theres people that want to do them. I have wanted an excuse to do more smilie comics though :)

I'll have a piece of this. Maybe as a columnist? Although, as almost all my posts turn out as TV broadcasts, letters or news articles anyway, submitting my own nation's news would be a doddle.

I used to run something similar when I was The East Neuk. It's at http://www.angelfire.com/ns2/eastneuk/enn.html. It was a shitload of work, but there was only me and RadioWorld working on it. Maybe it throws up some ideas?

Whoa Quezadria! I am going to do reporting on all of Green Revolution, I called it earlier.

I would prefer, for now, to make this a more global thing, once we have a good member base we cam start doing local reporting :)

Okay! I got a sample up. it doesn't have anything related to NS countries but it gives you an idea of what I can do. Any suggestion/commentscomplaints would be appreciated.

There are a few errors, but I rushed to get this up.

BTW I just thought of something muy importante: the sports section! Bagsy not doing it, though, cos I don't really understand NS world Cup yet.

edit: I have got one suggestion, though: newspapers are usually fully justified, so that the columns line up neatly at both the left and right sides. I know this is deeply, deeply petty, but I'm a trainee journalist and it's all I get to think about.

Hey, I take journalism class at school. However, they teach us nothing about newspaper format. Just article format.

I'll create a character to do a monthly rant comumn on various things if you want.

I do a little layout for the sub-editing exam, but mostly I just have to read craploads of papers, so you pick this stuff up.

The layout looks good.
I figure to save people the trouble of huge loading times, we can do one 'page' like that, then do the rest in puretext form.

That layout could be translated into HTML without too much trouble, then the load time would be fine and dandy.

DGNT, I think that idea makes sense. I could put together a little header at the top to mark the page and what's on the page and the rest could be in boxes?

Hell, I work for a school paper. I'll be a columnist.

Personally I just keep my own nations news as my people are very insulated from many of the worlds events through their own apathy for anything not local. Funny how Iuthia mimics some real nations like that.
