The Island of Rose invades Algeria, and does so for no good reason! (Earth II)

The Island of Rose
29-01-2005, 00:52
Sardinia was just the first step of a massive Imperial expansion program. With Sardinia under the grasp of the Empire, they were a stone's throw away from invading a European nation, or in specific an African nation. And this is the story for today. The story of the Island of Rose invades Algeria.

The 1st Sardinian Fleet, consisting of over 100 ships, sailed over to Algeria. Inside were thousands of LCACs with an entire Army. In specific, the 1st Rosian Army. Consisting of 80,000 troops, this would certainly be an easy invasion. The premise? That the African nation was run by a crazed Dictator that had to be deposed. Under that, Algeria would become a Protectorate. It could run itself but it had to follow Rosian Foreign Policy.

The 1st Sardinian Fleet, now just outside Algeria, pointed their oversized cannons and aimed their very powerful missiles at the poor thing. 3, 2,1 and the sky was full of missiles! I would say woosh woosh went the missile, but I would be mocked endlessly by Greenmanbry, so I won't do that.

After the massive missile and cannon bombardment ended, planes from every Carrier started taking off. Hundreds of them, all heading towards important military targets. SAMs knocked out, bases on fire, runways full of potholes. But higher in the sky, bombers were bombing the Algerian capital of __________ to the ground. Especially the Government buildings.

The LCACs hit the shore, soldiers running towards the coast, Leopard 2s and Humvees charging hard. There was some resistance, but it was destroyed. And so a blitzkrieg for Algeria began, and nothing would stop the Rose's ambitions.

Nothing.

Official Statement from The Grand Imperial Empire of The Island of Rose:

Due to the fact that Algeria is run by a crazed Dictator, we shall now be taking over the nation of Algeria. Any attempt to hinder us shall be destroyed. We won't disturb Tunisia, Libya, or Morroco as long as they don't disturb us. We have only come to bring stabality to the region. Thank you and good day.

At the end of the first day, the Rosian Army established a beachhead. And tommorow, they would advance on Algeria, trying to win the hearts of a people, a region, and a world.

It has begun.

From The Executive Office-To Nikolaos the Great:

Ah, you must be Nikolaos. Thank you for the kind words, but the fact of the
matter is that my plans might be thwarted. I would appretiate if you could
help in the "military containment" aka blockade of Algeria. For now, we are in
no need of soldiers. Just make sure you do not interrupt trade, we are trying
to win the people of Algeria so the Rosians don't have to treat it like a
colony, too expensive. Thank you for the offer, I hope that our two nations
become greater then ever.

"And that I can get some new land..."

The 2nd day of Operation: Holy Shit! would begin. The beachhead was already established, now the hard push towards the country would begin.

The night before, hundred of C-17s from the 1st Sardinian Fleet dropped pamphlets. They basically said to revolt against the dictitorial Government, we will aid you, and some even had a pistol attached to them. And revolt they did. Cities went up in flames as revolutionary councils formed. And luckily, they were all for the Empire annexing them.

Just as Frederick intended.

The second part would begin. The 4 Divisions consisting the 1st Army began rolling down the desertland. Every time they passed a village they handed out food, water, medicine, all that good stuff. They also planted a supply depot, and talked about how the Empire is good for their nation. Better to have the people help you settle in then be against them right? Of course there was some resistance. A few soldiers were shot but no deaths. The resistance was so disorganized that it was easily dealt with in each village.

Meanwhile, Rosktai were entering the various cities. Their mission? To help the "cause" of the Algerian people. They bombed Government building, provided arms, strategized raids and the like.

But the main push would begin. The 1st Division would have the privilage of attacking Algiers. Which was luckily on the coast of Algeria. Yes I just found out. The armor went in first, escorted by the soldiers of course. Snipers were everywhere, but the Pumas stopped that very fast. There was an RPG here and there but Rosktai in the area already cleared it up. Aka, Algiers was already mostly taken, and really Algeria was taken. All they had to do was nationbuild.

Which would take a long time if the Iraqi War tought, or however you spell it, us anything.

Official Statement from The Grand Imperial Empire of The Island of Rose:

Success! We have successfully taken over Algeria! Now the very slow, very painful process of nationbuilding will begin. We are glad that we have international support. The military blockade will continue until things in Algeria are stable. May God bless the Empire!

And so, the very long task of nationbuilding would begin.

The Dominion of Greenmanbry stands by its allies in The Island of Rose. Too long have our neighbouring Algerian brethren been oppressed under the iron fist of a trecherous dictator. If TIOR would like any help, be it military or humanitarian, then we are ready to help Algeria right away, considering the proximity of our Chad to them.

Once again, we wish TIOR every success, and hope that we can help them in this endeavor.

Imperial reply

Any attempt to stop Cottish vessels, civliians and military alike, will be met with a hail of missiles/bullets/shells. Please keep in mind that the Cottish province of Sicily lies just east of Algeria and is filled with naval vessels and air force planes, especially after the recent invasion-attempt of Sicily. We therefor urge the Hellenic Empire and the Island of Rose, both allies thru the Roman Confederacy, to leave the Cottish vessels alone.

After a recent wave of piracy, all Cottish vessels are being shadowed by Cottish warships/submarines, and any ship trying to stop them will be considered pirates and sunk immediately, in accordance to the Piracy Act of 1632. Have a nice day.

A blast of static entered the twelve Black Berets' neural interface system before being followed by the pilot's monotonous tone, "Touchdown in ten. Loadmaster prepare for landing."

Captain Hektor Sanislov eyed an Air Force sergeant who unbuckled himself and made his way to a computer console, punching in a few commands. A buzzer sounded in his helmet as a red light flipped on on the fuselage wall across from him. He heard a mechanical noise followed by a shrill, his attention and head quickly diverted towards the door, which was now outlined by a dim moonlight, the pressurized air quickly escaping the rear berth.

Now the thunderous roar of the MV-83A Vertical Take Off and Landing light transport's twin turbofans. The rear door opened a bit more of a crack, revealing the dark blue midnight sky, below moonlight reflected off the Mediterranean's waves.

The pilot once again spoke, "Now entering Algerian airspace, altitude reduced. Landing in six." The captain silently scoffed to himself, he knew what their altitude along with time and distance to target, courtesy of his NGCS's satellite uplink and the DNI. As the aircraft continued its descent, the audio signature of the turbofans significantly reduced as the throttle was lowered in anticipation for a landing.

The loadmaster waved to the captain and gave him a thumbs-up, Hektor gave a nod in return and quickly unbuckled himself, lifting himself from the jump seat. He motioned for the rest to follow suit and they acquiesced, standing up in unison, and readying their SR-90A1 assault rifles.

Towards the front of the berth, a crew cheif pulled down a hydraulic lever, opening a forward door, the door sliding open to reveal a picture-perfect view to a moon-lit Algerian coast line. The crew cheif kicked his foot into a control system on the fuselage wall and an M451 7.62mm Mini-Gun slid into view, aided by a series of hydrualic cylinders and servos, a click eminating as it snapped into a secured place. A locking mechanism released the mini-gun from its locked position and its barrel slid skyward. The crew chief snapped on an elastic band along with two securing straps as he grabbed ahold of the mini-gun's firing handles and hoisted the weapon up, scanning the area below using the mini-gun's Heads Up Display. A monitor mounted to his right on the wall showed him a thermal view of the area below and a crosshair showing where his weapon was aimed. The area was clear below.

Up front, in the cockpit, the weapons service officer scanned Algerian coastline to the west of the Algerian city of Annaba with the aid of a thermal imager and radar. Below the cockpit area, a semi-sealed bubble twisted in its berth, it was a mounted M192 30mm six-barreled auto-cannon.

Mentally, Captain Sanislov watched as the altimeter dropped... and dropped... and dropped. The berth erupted into a cacophony of noise, the twin turbofans, the hydraulics, and now the motors adjusting the turbofans' thrust downwards to aid in landing. The vehicle slowed noticeably. Then the cabin shook as the twin lift fans blasted into action, creating even more noise and causing the aircraft to slow even more. Now it had no forward velocity as it lowerd from a hundred and twenty feet until it was just hovering above the ground, its rear ramp quickly shot down and the twelve men scurried into the darkness, quickly disappearing into the encompassing darkness of the VTOL transport, which hid them from the moon-rays.

Quickly, the ramp returned to its position as the MV-83A corkscrewed into the sky, revealing the twelve kneeled men in the process. The aircraft's lift fans cut out as the rear thrust vectoring system returned to its normal position, propelling the MV-83A out at a few hundred knots.

Hektor watched the aircraft disappear into the night sky a few miles from shore before speaking to his team via DNI "Alright, lets move. " He waved his hand towards the west... Towards the horizon which held Annaba. Chances were good that the Island of Rose forces never saw the ARSB aircraft, as it flew below radar for most of the journey, just feet above the waves until it came to the insertion point, where it had to lift up in order to provide extra space for the VTOL lift fans and thrust vectoring to come into effect. Sanislov didn't know why the hell he was here in the first place. No one told him... Except the vague orders to lift off from base at 2200. The trip here was about three hours from the ARSB base on TIOR's man-made island. That's what floored him, what the hell was he doing secretly being inserted into an ally-held territory... And worst of all, being launched from an ARSB base on that same ally's soil. He had been told he would be briefed en route, Ha, that sure happened, he thought to himself as he hiked over the rough terrain along with his squad. Likely he would get briefed later via satellite although it still troubled him, what would happen if they did see us coming? Nah, we're friends... Nothing could happen even if they did see us.

His mind was in turmoil as he continued walking, under the cover of darkness, with the eleven other Black Berets in his team, awaiting orders for whatever the hell he was over here for.

Onboard a Greco Class Carrier

"Admiral, an unidentified aircraft has appeared on the radars. Should we intercept it?"

The Admiral took a look at the radar screens and replied back.

"No just leave them. They have already entered Algeria and if the Algerians see our fighters flying over them they might think we are here to divide Algeria. Anyways I am sure the Rosians are capable of handling it if it a threat. But just let them know about it."

"Yes Captain."

Of course they knew what kind of aircraft it was, it was a Soviet aircraft. But due to the fact that they are allied, they couldn't do anytihng about it so they just trailed it. As soon as the soldiers were deployed they were stalked, for a long time I might add.

After a few minutes, this happened. "Freeze!" 15 soldiers all armed with the AIBS system popped out of nowhere, they pointed their guns at the heavily armored men.

The Captain stopped them. "Hold your fire." He said. "These are Soviet soldiers. What the hell are you doing here? We weren't alerted to your precense." Of course they still pointed their RAR-9As at them, never could be so sure hm?

Meanwhile, Algeria was in great shape. They already had an Air Force and an Army, albeit still in training. The police, working close with the Army captured any terrorist that was trying to destroy Algeria. So it was pretty much a clean operation. Of course there was still one holdout camp, and ironically the Soviets and Rosians were right close to the camp.

The Captain chuckled. "Oh! You're here to help us take down the last camp right?"

Just a minute before the 'ambush', a chime sounded within the Captain's helmet and he held up his hand, ordering the team to halt. He patched the satellite communications through.

"Captain Sanislov, as you probably know, you are in the Island of Rose-held territory of Algeria. We're sorry we could not get mission details to you sooner but we're transmitting the full packet now, along with intelligence data on your enemy. You are here to assist TIOR in eliminating rebel encampments, one such encampment is located nearby, hence why you were dropped in the region. You will rendezvous with a detachment of TIOR special forces at Waypoint Delta Whiskey One. If you have any questions, refer to the mission packet. Thank you, good luck."

Hektor pulled up the packet view through his DNI and surveyed a GPS-provided screen whiched showed that the rendezvous waypoint was fifteen feet to his east, with a puzzled look on his face he motioned for the rest of his team to move up. The area ahead was clear, or so his thermal imager told him, but he could visibly tell there was a drop off, where someone could hide.

As soon as they reached the waypoint, the TIOR forces shot up and were quickly met with the dozen barrels of the Black Berets' SR-90A1 assault rifles, well, the twin barrels. A tense stare-down occured as the Black Berets sized up their opponents, their NGCS systems revealed to them they were wearing the Hamptonshire-developed Advanced Infantry Battle Suit, a nice system but a little out-dated in comparison to the NGCS. Hektor was amazed that they could pull this off, apparantly there were ways to get around the NGCS' sensory equipment.

As the TIOR captain spoke, Captain Sanislov told his men to stand down, via DNI communications. At once, their assault rifles lowered to their wastes as they surveyed the situation.

"Good show, good show... You got us." He held up his hands as he grinned, although it was hidden by the NGCS's visor and helmet system.

Hektor shrugged slightly, "I was told by Soviet Bloc Mediterranean Command, just minutes ago, that I was to rendezvous with TIOR special forces at this exact spot... Wait.." He looked at the GPS view once again and pointed to a position about two feet away, "Actually, right there." He coughed and looked up at the TIOR captain, who quickly spoke.

"Yes, we're supposed to help you take out a rebel camp. We have three MV-83 VTOL transport/gunships prepped in the event we need a little more firepower here, and faster." He gave a nod, "Oh, and by the way, I'm Captain Hektor Sanislov, OMONIA Black Beret." He stepped towards the TIOR captain and offered his hand.

The Captain smirked. "Well, Rosktai are constantly trained to deal with technology." He shook Hektor's hand. "My name is Captain August Calvus of the 2nd Special Forces Group. As you can see, Rosians aren't that weak." He chuckled. "Due to popular belief."

He pointed at the camp. It was small, tents here and there. But there was a rumor of an underground system. This was where the bulk of the fighting would happen. August looked at his RAR-9K, the new rifle for the Army. Kommandoe style. "Normally we'd just bomb it to hell, but they seem to be going underground. And not little Vietnam style holes, I mean damn bunker complexes that our heaviest bombs can't penetrate. Thus that's what they sent us here."

He pointed to the sky. "Two R/B-91s are going to bomb the camp for us. That way we can just walk on underground finish the rest of the job, in fact they should be here right about now..."

A sonic boom was heard. Two R/B-91s flew over the camp, dropping bombs of doom and death and destruction and what have you on the camp. After a minute or two, the entire camp was dead and burning. Now the Rosktai and NGCS could waltz right on in.

"After you." August said in a joking matter.
