Cotland

Cotlandstad

The day of days were approaching. The first Emperor in 600 years were to be coronated, and all of Cotland were triumphing. Their voice had been heard, and now, the culmination of their dreams were about to happen. Over the course of the past few days, more then 700 000 Cots had flocked to the capitol from all over Cotland. There were Sicilians, Indians, Tahitians and Cots walking the streets of Cotlandstad. For many of them it was the first trip to the capitol. The place where everything federal was decided.

Imperial Palace

Emperor Thomas I of Cotland looked out the window in the fifth floor of the Imperial Palace, down at the changing of the guard. Thoughts flooded his mind. Soon, he would be coronated and declared Emperor of Cotland by the Grace of God. The Emperor was personally religious, but he kept religion and politics seperate. It was much easier that way. But he was still nervous about the following day.

He looked back down on the latest reports. Three Infantry Brigades had been dispatched to Cotlandstad to assist the residing two Infantry Brigades and the Armoured Brigade with the safety. Soldiers and police would be assigned to each street corner. The city would be so safe you couldn't even spit on the street without a cop or soldier seing it.

Security personell in Cotlandstad
- 55 000 soldiers
- 20 000 local police
- 15 000 federal police

Emperor: When are the first guest scheduled to arrive?

The Emperor asked his Foreign Minister, Robert Vance, who had just entered the room.

Vance: In just under an hour. Escort fighters have been dispatched already, and they are assuming waiting pattern. I'm going to Klarseth soon to greet them myself. The 'Guards are there already, all puffed up in their dress uniforms. Three companies, just like ordered sir.

Vance was reffering to Klarseth International Airport, the main airport in Cotlandstad, and to the Imperial Guards, the Emperors bodyguards. The Emperor nodded.

Emperor: Good. Be sure to invite them over for tonight for a nightcap. Let's see. Who is attending?

Vance pulled up a list from a pocket and read it.

Vance: The Emperor of Layarteb, The High Sultan of Elephantum, Reichschancellor Einheit of North Germania, Emperor Hartian of Rome and Shah Khosru of Parthia just to mention a few. Quite a show sir.

Emperor: Yes. It will be good to get this whole thing over and done with. I'm so damn nervous. Is that normal?

Vance: Just relax sir. It's gonna work out just fine.

Emperor: I hope so Robert. I hope so.

Vance looked at his wristwatch.

Vance: I've got to go now. The first ones will arrive in 40 minutes, and I have to chech on the troops.

Emperor: Good luck Robert. Be sure to greet the Emperor of Layarteb from me.

Vance: Will do sir.

Vance walked out of the room, leaving the Emperor alone. Tomorrow was the day.

Grand Hotel, Cotlandstad
The guests would live in the Grand Hotel, the best hotel in Cotlandstad, filled to the brink with luxury worthy of a king. And it would preform it's role, hosting several royals and other heads of state.

The entire hotel had been sealed off, and all hotel staff had been cleared by the Federal Police. SWAT teams and Federal Police guarded the hotel. No-one got in without valid ID. No food was allowed in before it had been tested for all known and unknown poisions, deseaces and other stuff.

Secret IC

The Emperor looked over the listing for the support staff. Eight men of Force Falcon. Eighteen men of Force Spectre. That should keep me secure.

The High Sultan of Elephantum would like to bring his official wife and his firstborn son (15), as well as 12 security staff. Also, do you have a place for an airship to land/dock (i have specs in my storefront if you need them), our coronation present would be quite to big to fit in a C-130.

Wonderful. We shall make arrangements for the support staff and security agents. Security are already tight, as we don't with any incidents. We look forward to recieve the Layartebian guests.

Excellent. We shall place a 42" Plasma TV and a Playstation 2(TM) with Network Play(TM) and broadband connection (VDSL) in the Prince's room. You may land the airship in Tarsej Military Airfield 4 kilometers south of Cotlandstad. There are currently no pole to tie the airship down to at Tarsej, but the Imperial Corps of Engineers love a challenge.

We shall dispatch a flight (2) of F-22 Raptors to escort you to Cotlandstad once the plane crosses the border. All accomodations have been prepared. We must ask that your officer keep his heavy weaponry in the hotel room, and only bring the sidearm and SMG (it's the only thing escorts are allowed to bring) to the coronation and following five-day party.

ooc: I doubt you get to use it. Unless of course you want your officer dead (shot in the head from four sides at different angles) before he can squeeze the trigger. That is how tight security is (snipers on each rooftop, cops and soldiers on the streets).

The VC-25C Condor descended beneath the clouds. It was only three hours to sunrise and the pilots had timed it right. They were going to be down and into the hangar before the first rays of light even graced the airfield. Inside the VC-25C Condor was a precious cargo, the Emperor himself. Amongst him were sixteen bodyguards, all members of the 1st Black Operations and 3rd Black Operations units of the Layartebian Special Forces. But that wasn't his only security detail. His usual entourage of liasons and secret service personnel were with him as well. All-in-all, his VC-25C was carrying 82 passengers and the standard 26 crewmen, 6 of which were Black Ops agents themselves.

The ILS pattern was clear and the 640,000 lb. aircraft descended to 2,000 feet as it lined up for approach. The landing was smooth and quick, the airliner touching down at 140 knots and slowing down to a mere 20 knots very quickly. The six F-25B and six F-25A Firefox aircraft that were escorting the aircraft made an instant return to base, their radar signatures so small they were never seen. However, the eight F-22A Raptor fighters landed with the VC-25C, all taxiing to the same hangar, where they would all be refueled and remaintenanced.

The convoy was ready and waiting in the hangar to bring the Emperor and his entourage to the coronation ceremony, primarily the main hotel where they had requested a startling fourteen rooms, all in line with each other on the 7th floor.

Robert Vance waited inside the hangar, and when the giant militarized version of the Boeing 747 came to a halt and the Emperor started to disembark the plane, a Cottish military band started to play the Layartebian national anthem. At the same time, three companies of Cottish soldiers presented arms, ready for the inspection of the Emperor and Vance.

As the Emperor came down the stairs, Vance was ready.

Vance: Your Imperial Highness, I'm Foreign Minister Robert Vance. Welcome to Cotland. If you would follow me please sir? Emperor Thomas has requested your presence at the Imperial Palace tonight for a nightcap, should you not be to tired...

Frederick's personal Concorde was chosen for this very trip. It was a white Concrode and on the fins was the fine flag of the Empire. Flown by every citizen and every Protectorate. Do you want to know what the flag looks like? Go to my nation page, I'm too lazy to show it. It flew to Cotland very very fast, way fast. Frederick was in a hurry to get there.

Was his plane escorted? Of course! By two R/F-91s in fact. But as soon as they hit Cottish waters they left the damn thing alone. Just because it's illegal to be there, cowards! As soon as they hit Cottish waters they contacted them.

"This is IRJ-1 to Cotland International, we're coming in."

The Concorde hit the runway, in a gliding way. Aka, it slowed down slowly in the air and just glided in. No I don't know anything about this plane except that it can go fast as hell.

Frederick and a Captain with an RAR-9A on his back, an RSMG-1A on his right side, and a Colt .45 on the other was next to him. Aka his bodyguard.

He now waited for his ride.

Frederick von Hattensburg (http://www.geocities.com/veldes1/karl.jpg) was looking great in his blue Imperial uniform. The Captain meanwhile was wearing a green officer's uniform with a red beret. He was stiff. As stiff as... I'd rather not get into that.

Frederick shook the hand of the Foreign Minister. "It is very nice to be here in Carthage. I have many things to talk about to the Emperor. And I am sure he wants to talk to me." He chuckled. "Lead the way, just don't anger my bodyguard." He smirked.

The Captain gave out a wicked grin. But of course he was playing. He was just a misunderstood teddy bear, abused physically at 9. He never got any love. You know? You don't know him! He only know him! Okay, I'll stop. I'm just going to keep rambling on so I don't make my post seem like a cheap piece of shit. But it's kind of too late for that isn't it? I'll stop now. Good by!! Vance was confused over the Presidents statement about being in Carthage, and let his confusement show. He quickly returned to a calm diplomat-face though.

Vance: Eh, sir, you're not in Carthage. Carthage is approx. 5000 miles that way. You're in Cotlandstad now. I'm sure that the Emperor will be pleased to meet you as well. If you would follow me sir?

Vance motioned to a sunglass-donning gentleman dressed in a black Armani suit with a wire atached to his left ear.

Vance (wispering so the others can't hear it): Listen carefully. That officer in green there is heavily armed. Please make sure that he don't use the weapons. If he get rowdy, shoot him in the knee if you have to, but if so, you will pay the doctor-bill. Understand?

The gentleman nodded.

Queen Lerathen flipped through her televison channels before resting on Earth II News Central. The ticker on the bottom mentioned various things, such as the Layarteb Doctrine of Superiority as well as many different lands being invaded. Then the screen went to a short graphics display mentioning a Coronation. Lerathen sat up quickly wondering what it was. The news seemed to make it important. As she watched, she learned of Cotland becoming an empire, with Thomas I as its Emporer. As the news bit ended, she walked over to her study and began to write.
"Emperor Thomas I, Cotland:
I would like to congradulate you on this large step in the life of your nation and yourself. We hope you the bst of luck in ruling your people to what is best seen fit by you. Times have been changing in many nations, but it is a comfort to see another nation in Earth II to reach a better point. Please, accept the enclosed gift as a sign of good luck in your future as emporer.
- Queen Lerathen, Liebermonk"

Inside the package she enclosed a gold trinket. It was coin-shaped and about 2 inches in diamter. One side was adorned with an ornate phoenix, a symbol of good fortune in Liebermonk. The reverse side contained an olive branch, well known as the symbol of peace. The entire disc had many sparkling jewels from ruby's making up the phoenix, to the emeralds making up the olive branch. The sides contined diamonds.
Lerathen had recieved one when she was crowned Queen of Liebermonk and since then she has recieved good luck. She decided since recieving it, to pass on another disc to the rulers around the world.

The Emperor noted the limo he'd be driving in, a standard Layartebian piece of equippment, shipped over just the day before aboard a C-5B Galaxy. It was more than armored, it weighed about as much as a small tank and could hold up to fourteen people, including the driver. Whenever the Emperor travelled in a convoy there were always seven such limo's, in two groups of two and one group of three. His car position was always different. His immediate security force, eight of the sixteen Black Ops, went with him in that limo along with his driver, his two chief liasons, and himself. He'd always have room for two passengers, this time Mr. Vance being one of them.

Inside it was different, comfortable. Four of the eight Black Ops agents had submachine guns at the ready, the other four hiding their weapons. It was all a matter of illusion. Everyone in the car was armed, even the driver who had two pistols under his coat and a 12 gauge pump at the ready. The Emperor himself carried a .45 M33A4 Pistol.

Vance sat inside the Layartebian Emperors limo, an impressive vehicle. Filled with luxury, yet safe like the vault of the Bank of Cotland. Surrounded by what seemed like security personell. Noticing the weapons carried by the guards, Vance was slightly concerned.

Vance: Well Your Majesty, I see that you are well protected. However, I'm afraid that I must request that your safety personell keep their weapons... well... consealed... during the coronation. I assure you that it will be perfectly safe. We have thousands of soldiers and police, both local and federal, in position thruout the city. There are snipers on all roofs, and as you can see - Vance pointed out the window on two AH-64D Longbows patroling the skies - the skies are covered. SWAT teams are guarding the cathedral, Grand Hotel, and the Imperial Palace. Everything is safe sir.

When the time comes yes my men's weapons will have their weapons concealed, I don't need everyone to know that I am walking around armed." The Apache above was not something that made him any happier. It wasn't much a sign of relief unless it was being flown by Layartebian forces.

Vance: I'm glad we could be of assistance sir. We are quite pleased with the climate here. That's why we decided to build the city here. Did you know that no building in this city are more then 6 years old? It's the newest, most modern city in all of Cotland. Well, I don't want to brag, but - Vance leaned closer to the Emperor to wisper (sp?) to him - it's the newest and most modern city in the entire region. - He leaned back in his seat - I do hope that the storm won't cause trouble. If you need help, don't hesitate to ask Cotland.

The motorcade approached the Grand Hotel, which was surrounded by police, soldiers and crowds trying to see someone famous. The police barricade moved aside when they saw the motorcade arriving, the Layartebian flag on the hood of the many limos. There were no doubt which head of state that arrived.

The crowds streched over each other, trying to get a peek of the Emperor, and several paparazzis tried to get past the blockings. Their efforts were rewarded with a few beatings from the police clubs, cameras confiscated, and a night in a holding cell, accompanied by a £5000 (£=Coin, the currency of Cotland. £1 = $1,2) fine for trespassing.

Ah, I see that we are arriving. If you could tell your driver to stop over at the entrance there...

Three VC-25A (Air Force Ones), were taking off at Manama AFB, meeting the KC-135 Stratotanker, and two F-22 fighters to escort them. After taking off, the VC-25s repeatedly switched positions, giving no clear indication which plane the High Sultan was in, which one had his family in it, and which one was just there to confuse attackers. on the way, they passed the Cargolifter airship carrying the new Emperor's coronation presents. They were making good time, and as they got closer, the fighters pulled of, returning home, but the Stratotanker stayed with them until the last minute.

Landing in Cotland

As they approached the airport, the dummy plane pulled off, uneeded until the return to Manama. Another one would return after dropping them off, the last remaining in case an evacuation was needed. The Sultan had just finished his midday meal, and was talking with his advisors and security staff as they touched down. In the other, his wife and son were happily talking about their trip. If they had a chance, they wanted to explore the city, and see how it was different from their own capital.

When the two militarized Boeing 747s came to a halt at the tarmac, military police and dogs immediately surrounded the planes in a 30 meter radius, creating a perimeter. The three companies presented arms, and once the stairs were in place and the door opened, the military band started to play the Elephanti national anthem. Waiting near the stairs were Foreign Minister Robert Vance, who would greet the High Sultan and his family. Once the High Sultan came down the stairs, he was met by a smiling Vance.

Vance: Welcome to Cotland, Your Excellency. I'm Robert Vance, Emperor Thomas' Foreign Minister. I trust the flight went well?

Vice Admiral Dugaul stepped from his transport. He entered the hotel and then went to the room he had reserved. With him were his 6 ceremonial guards and two aides. "Jurgen, would you please inform a member of the Cotland goverment that I have a messege to deliver to his majesty, from Emperor Shadaum IV of Thrashia."

"Yes Sir."

Dugaul had spent seven hours in a plane to get from the Marshall Islands to here, and he was interested in endig the trip. Since the Emperor himself could not come, the matter of his daughter's marraige taking precedent, he had sent Dugaul. A high enough ranking officer of the Imperial Fleet not to insult the Emperor to be.

Jurgen began searching for a member of Cotland government in the hotel entrance area.

"Six years you say? Impressive. Very well. Driver. Could you stop over at that entrance? Thank you." The Emperor looked at the window. "Quite a crowd. Our flag is rather obvious so I imagine those crave a peak, no?"

Vance smiled at the Emperors remark of the crowds.

Vance: Well, it isn't that often the Emperor of Layarteb come to Cotland, so I believe so. Did you know that the population of Cotlandstad has increased by 340% due to the coronation? At least the paparazzis won't bother anyone...

"340%!" The Emperor was shocked, "I hope you have contingency plans in place for further support of that populace. That's a real shock to the system, not unlike getting hit with a defribilator."

Vance: Well, most of them won't be here for much longer then a week. And anyway, we have called in the Army. For example, we have six MASH units inside and outside Cotlandstad to aid the population in addition to the civilian hospitals. The food and water supplies are also going great. The only problem we really have is getting accomodations to them all. The hotels are crammed. So, many are camping in the parks. We've given special permission for them to do so, just this once. We've prepared for this for several months sir. The only thing that could ruin the fun right now is a nuke dropping down on Cotlandstad, but the ABM defenses surrounding Cotland should stop that.

"Perhaps I'll have to make a note of that for my forces and upon my leaving use," he noted the seriousness of Mr. Vance, "oh I'm kidding. Indeed anyone who would use nuclear weaponry against Cotland right now would be in a bad situation. I would take it as a personal attempt to kill me and therefore respond gloriously. I've got to do something with those nuclear weapons," he joked again.

Vance: I see. Well, I'm sure the bigshots in the military would be glad if someone tried. - Noticing the facial expression of the Emperor, Vance quickly explained - That way they could get to use some of our nukes, you see. Did I say nukes? I shouldn't have said that. It was supposed to be a secret.. Damn.

IC: Vance nodded at the remark of the Emperor while waiting for the go-ahead from the security personell that the area was clear for the Emperor to exit the limo. Seing one of the civilian dressed security staff nodding, a police officer opened the door to let the Emperor exit the limo.

Vance waited for the Emperor to exit the limo before he too exited the vehicle. Outside, the photographists were waiting, hoping for a good picture. Who knew, maybe the Emperor would pose a little for them.

Inside the lobby, the entire lobbystaff waited for the Emperor to arrive. The top suites had been prepared for him and his entourage.

LOL I really should have a picture of my Emperor, I can't say I ever thought about giving him a picture.

ooc: Well, I use Arnie for my Emperor, Bill Clinton for Robert Vance, George W. Bush as the defense minister Phil Shaw, and Norman Schwarzkopf as the chief of the armed forces..

ic: Entering the lobby, director Ivan Ralston of the Grand Hotel stepped forward to greet the Emperor.

Ralston: Your Imperial Highness, welcome to the Grand Hotel, Your Highness sir. If you would be so kind as to follow lowly little me sir?

Ralston bowed and walked backwards, not seeing where he walked. So, it was only a matter of time before he hit something.

That "something" was a collum with a large vase on top. Ralston hit it head-on (or should I say back-on?), causing the vase to come crashing down right on top of his head, knocking him out cold.

The Emperor laughed. "Well it is obvious he is nervous. I'll have that vase put on my bill." He spoke to Mr. Vance. "We will have to tell these guys just to call me Emperor though and no need for bowing, I'm no deity. Man should only bow before a deity and I wouldn't mind being one. Unfortunately I'm not one nor do I worship one. So where shall we go?" He was still chuckling.

OOC: Okay yeah I need to find a leader.

Vance looked at the Emperor, then at the unconsious Ralston, then back at the Emperor.

Vance: I'll have someone tell them sir. I think we're supposed to go upstairs to the top.

Vance: If that would be needed, God forbid, Cottish V-22 Ospreys will land on the roof of the hotel and take on the most important guests, while the escort RAH-66 Comanches will provide cover. The helicopters will fly you directly to the airport where your plane is ready, and you will have fighter escort out of Cotland. If you cannot be flown to the airport, we will transport you to a safe facility. At least that's what I've been explained.

ooc: Most likely last post for the evening. I'm tired. Thank God for the weekend (I've got tomorrow off because the teachers are having meetings) :)

Vance: Well sir, the plan is for you to relax and just do whatever you wish to do for the afternoon. Then at seven, the meeting in the Imperial Palace begins. Nothing formal, just a unformal meeting of the various heads of state.

Tomorrow is the big day. The coronation is scheduled to start at 11 o'clock with the Emperor starting his travel down the Main Street and the guests starting to arrive at the National Cathedral, where the archbishop will lead the seremony, which will start at about 11.30. The ceremony is expected to last approx. one hour, ending at 12.30 with the Emperor exiting the Cathedral wearing the crown. He will then travel in an open car to the Imperial Palace back up Main Street, which is lined with soldiers from each branch of the Military.

There will be a two-hour pause so that the guests (mainly the ladies) can go to the Hotel to change into evening dresses. At three o'clock the reception will start. A ten-meal menu will be digested and dancing and drinking.. the usual stuff. The whole of Cotland will be celebrating as well. The party is estimated to last for seven days. Let me tell you sir, I wouldn't want to be a member of the clean-up crew.

As for your wife and.. Hiraz, is that your son? Anyway, they can tour Cotlandstad today if they like to. Just let us know so we can assign Federal Police agents to guard them. The crowds are massive right now. But let me recommend Marked Street, or the Klarseth Park (ooc: think Central Park times 5).
