I was thinking about making an election thread, in order to move things forward in UX.
The background is not a problem. Gordon Lew's government is basically a interesting one....he banned outsourcing, leading to an economic slowdown (though the economy just got back on its feet), he is getting cozy with Fabus via a policy of detente, and he is a member of the International (which makes things confusing), and a terror movement got spawned during his rule, and he was slow to act decisively. Also, his proposed "Peace Preservation Law" is widely considered a threat to Civil Liberties, as it allows the National Police sweeping new powers. The fact that the 2 bilionth citizen (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=389151) was born was nice, but it also brings up the issue of economic and social strains, that he did not address.
He did, however, perform some domestic reforms, like lowering the heavy tax burden of many Xenizens, reducing funds for special interest groups and backing the arts.
So, people both love and hate him....this makes for an interesting circumstance, as the acts of Lew spurred the creation of a new political party, the New Homeland Party, decribed in this thread: http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=390361
This also led to the creation of a new moderate-to-conservative coalition, the Freedom Party. The acts of Kahta (banning of Asians) and Masspwnage (who proclaimed Asians the Master Race, thouh it was a joke) and the general hatred of Fabus amongst a good 40-50% of the people led to the rise of the Asia First Party, a radical, almost fascist party that espouses a program of Yellow Power, and hates whites.
The main problem here is how to craft the personalities of the candidates and create a realistic election. I don't want to make them caracatures, but I also want them to be interesting. If anybody wishes to tell me how to do that, please do so.

New Homeland Party: Generally, they are liberal in character. They espouse a program of environmentalism, Socialist economics in the DuFourist mode (like Communist Louisiana), and more civil rights, as UX is very conservative in this field, like gay marriage and an enhanced National Health Program, plus the legalization of many drugs. They wish for judicious support of Xenizen wars versus Fabusism and Fascism. Their candidiate is Yuri Iwata, a 25-year old Comic Book Artist turned Socialist Agitator.
Freedom Party: A conservative-moderate coalition, they wish for more privatization of government resources, like hospitals and Arms Production, plus the National Bank of Upper Xen (they favor a fully government controlled National Treasury). They wish for military expenditures to remain the same, they want good relations with the Fabus Bloc, they want to be tough on terror, and they promise a general lowering of taxes and an improvement in the economy, including a campaign of trustbusting. They also wish for a modified Their candidate is James "Buddy" Ma.
Asia First Party:
They support a program of government that is near-Fascist in composure. They wish for more military spending, wars on the "enemies of the true Chosen People," and a program of Keynesian Economics where the government dominates the economy, and leaves power in the hands of large companies. They also call for the government resriction of the press and more powers to the National Police, as well as a Republic of Virtue, whereby "deviant" behaviors (as they see them) like homosexuality and disseent are crushed. They beleive that Asians (Chinese especially) are God's Chosen People, and that there is a white power conspiracy that is ruining the world. Their candidate is Yang Sheng-ji.
So, any opinions on how this should be set up?
