<open news broadcast>

'Welcome to the GBA Guffingfordii Broadcasting Agency your daily objective newsfeed. Today an unknown civillian airliner has been shot down above sovereign Guffingfordii-Panooly soil. After repeating demands to turn around, the military and strategic command saw no other option than to shoot down this airplane, now labelled as a spy plane. This is because it refused to turn around, ignored our communication and was flying a highly suspicious route above the Holy Panooly continent. The investigation on the spyplane is pending, since the current weather situation does not allow a quick rescue operation. The local authorities of Holy Panooly have ordered all eventual survivors to be executed as intruders who violated sovereign Guffingfordii territory. We are now going live to a speech of Solan Rixx:

'I confirm the airplane has been shot down by the ADS (Automated defensive system) on Holy Panooly. I cannot tell anything about the status of the plane, but it seems there are no survivors considering the harsh enviroment. That will be all'

'Minister of foreign affairs Signoli DeFelice as asked all nations who flew over the Holy Panooly continent [south pacific] to report their flightplanes as soon as possible.'

<SECRET IC: A few days later...>

In the jungle of Holy Panooly an expedition found the wreckage of the airplane. Inbetween the wreckage they found music instruments, toys and wheelchairs. They also found a half burned leaflet about a band of downsyndrome children. Nothing of this news would ever reach the outside world. The leader of this expedition, a famous jungle hunter and his gorup got $40,000 Krugerrands each on their respective bankaccounts to ensure their silence.

"Yes, well if it is the airliner we believe it could be then we are accepting about at least three or four Mattvian loses, but we are hoping that is not the air liner we think it could be. Official announcement From the Guffingfordii administration

'Home, friends and family! Words we cherish! A special broadcast is sent into the ether by GBA, God bless them. The investigation of the crashed spyplane has yielded results we already expected. It was indeed an airplane from Daikerta*, on a mission hellbent on disrupting the social structure of Guffingford-Panooly. They have threatened us with invasion, but we have yet to see if they can show us action, instead empty, lousy threats. Woe may befall them! Satan will feast on their souls! God bless our nation! Say hail to Guffingford!'

Fritz City, Codian States -- The Codian Transportation Ministry has cancelled all airline flights between the CCS, Guffingford, and Daikerta, citing the recent situation in Guffingfordii airspace.

In the wake of the downing of the aircraft last week, Guffingford flights remain cancelled and travellers remain frustrated. Codian officials are struggling with a way to return Guffingfordii and Daikertan tourists to their homes, but for now, no headway has been made. Tensions are running high.

"I live in Panooly City, and I have a dog there to feed" says Itoly DeRigor, a tourist on vacation in the Codian capital city. "I don't know if it's being fed! I called my neighbor and left a voicemail but you never can tell. I called my work, I called my folks. My folks know I'm ok in Fritz City but who knows if I'll have a job when I get home!?"

For the time being, those with cancelled flights are being put up by area hotels at no charge, but they are being encouraged to book other flights to countries that do not have the travel restrictions in place. Airlines have been forthcoming with refunds on tickets to the affected regions, but understandably, this doesn't exactly fix things.

A cloud of uncertainty remains hovering over the circumstances of last week's crash. Guffingford's GBA news network reported soon after the crash that it was a foreign spyplane shot down by its Automated Defense System, but questions are still unanswered about who it belongs to, despite claims from GBA news.

"It's a rumor mill, to be honest" CTM spokesmodel Fabrizzio Jones elaborated. "We've heard about Daikertan spy-planes, space aliens, even disadvantaged Austian schoolchildren. We're still trying to get some decent intelligence on the event, but the official position [of the Codian Transportation Ministry] is one of careful... um... care. We're not going to allow our citizens to be put in a position where they could be blown out of the sky."

CTM released yesterday that all Codian travellers in the regions had been accounted for, and all Codian aircraft was succesfully pulled from the region pending light being shed on the situation.

Fritz City, Codian States -- Despite officials' efforts, Guffingfordii and Daikertan tourists remain stranded in Fritz City.

In the latest round of controversy surrounding Guffingfordii/Daikertan relations, protestors have assembled at Fritz International Airport to decry what they say is illegal imprisonment of fourteen tourists from Guffingford and Daikerta. Originally, plans were in works for the tourists to board flights to other, non-restricted countries - however, it seems plans have changed, and no one is happy. The fourteen tourists have been held at the airport complex for nearly two weeks now, and airport officials say their hands are tied.

"The current situation is, we are working with the [Codian Transportation Ministry] to clear these individuals' passports," said Jeff Francouer, Public Relations Manager for Fritz International Airport. "At the moment, the CTM is unable to do so, and until then, we can't put them on a plane anywhere. It is an unfortunate situation, we realize, and we are doing all we can to ease the frustrations of these tourists."

Airport staff also remarked that food court vouchers and complimentary rooms at the airport Marriott were being put to use for the tourists. CNN was unable to find out if they were sharing rooms.

Codian Transportation Ministry officials have recently refused to comment on the situation, leading to speculation that something may be seriously amiss.

Ned Benedict moved the joystick slightly to the right at the command of his director, Jonathan Bon Jovi, CTM Head of Airport Security.

"That one, the one that just sat down." said Jonathan, and Ned clicked a button that began to zoom the camera in. The screen slowly reeled into a tighter shot on a glum, dark haired man in a green jacket. Jonathan peered intently at the security monitor, and then looked down at the portfolio in his hands. His gaze returned to the monitor.

"Switch to camera... (Jonathan did some mental math in his head) sixty-one." The monitor flickered and a view from the other side appeared. Ned centered on the dark haired man and zoomed in. Jonathan studied the monitor intently.

Ned spoke up. "What do you think?"

The director was slow to reply. "Let's go with what we know. The name on his Daikertan ID is Paul Smith. Paul Smith is a known alias on the watch list. He says he's here on business, but he doesn't have a cell-phone. All this, and he bears a close resemblance to this guy." Jonathan shut the portfolio and tossed it on the desk. "Do we have his luggage?"

Ned grabbed the telephone handset and punched a speed-dial number, and was rewarded by a garbled voice on the other line, obstructed by engine noise.

"This guy Paul Smith, Daikertan male. Do we still have his luggage?" Pause. "Yes, I'll hold." Ned looked helplessly up at Jonathan, who seemed to be ignoring him, instead poring back through that portfolio again.

"Yes, I'm still here. You gave it back to him? Yes, I'm sorry. Yes, I know it's standard procedure. No, I di- thank you, that's all I needed". Ned hung up the phone, and Jonathan closed the portfolio again.

"That's unfortunate," Jonathan said, shrugging. "Well, we can't send that guy on a plane until this is straightened out. I'm going to have to call those bastards in CIA, damn it."

Stevid International Airport

The airport admin had just got off the phone from the governmental international affairs office. Is head was sweating and he looked rather pale. He hadn’t looked this bad since his wife had left him. He walked from his office and into the centre control room.

“Ladies and Gentlemen your attention please. We have a situation here and it is a rather bad one. I’ve just got off the phone from Governmental International affairs; they have informed me that a spy plane has been shot down over Holy Panooly. Apparently they are taking precautions and aircraft are going to have to go though intense procedures lasting hours or not being allowed into HP airspace at all.
We’ve got thirty separate planes going to HP everyday and delays are going to be diabolical.

He paused for a minute to wipe the sweat from his wet brow.

“I think you people know what is coming. From this point on until further notice, all fights except military are cancelled. If any are en route to HP, then bring them home. Make all runways available for use and most importantly… flick the switch.

One man got up from his chair and walked over to a consol with a bright red button. The consol controlled all the boards in the airport that gave details on aircraft and their times of arrival and departure.

The man typed in on the keyboard [HolyPanooly~Outgoingflights~StevidIntlairport] and pressed enter. Eighteen flights popped up, five of which were ready to depart in ten to fifteen minutes. The man pressed the red button.

“There is gonna be an awful lot of upset people down there” said as he pressed the button.

Only seconds later, cancelled flashed across screens all over the airport, many hundreds of people groaned with despair, many more were disgruntled and began to fight their way to the front of the already huge queues at customer affairs.

The admin turned to all the people in the control room again.

“No one permits any fights to HP take off without my consent understand! Good! The day is bad enough already without us having more problems!”

"Today, after many investigation the Mattvian government has confirmed that the plane had no Mattvians on board, in a public statement last week the foreign secretary said that it was possible.

Flights are counting as normal with the some being cancelled or delayed.

The transport ministry has said that it is not advisable to travel by air because of this serious risk. There will be more on the hour."

Azov sat down at the table and looked around the lobby. Everyone there looked normal enough, annoyed because of the recent spy plane scare, yet normal. A few security guards were present, and Azov noticed that they kept peering over to him ever so often. Up near the ceiling, he saw only a couple of security cameras, but who knows how many more hidden ones were around in the area. ‘Alright, I have my bags, where was I supposed to go...’ Azov thought to himself, still trying to nonchalantly check his surroundings. He stuck his hand into a hidden pocket within his jacket and pulled out a small, yellow slip of paper with the words ‘MAIDEN INN ROOM 165’ on it. As he stuck the note back into his jacket, he stood up from the cold seat and picked up his baggage, making his way out of the lobby. All the while, the security guards stared at him.

Azov walked through the rotating glass entryway and stepped out onto the busy airport foyer. The road in front of him was full of large busses and taxis dropping off and picking up tourists and other visitors. He knew that there were more cameras outside, so he waited for an opportune time to make his escape from the complex. All Azov knew was that he had to get out of the airport and fast, because from the way the guards from earlier were acting, the higher ups has an idea for who ‘Paul Smith’ really was.

The Daikertan took a minute to survey his environment, to see who could help him escape quicker and easier. Suddenly to his right, a large group of foreign tourists all giggling and conversing with each other in a strange, unknown language brushed up beside Azov, making their way towards a bus waiting for them. Luckily enough, there was also a taxi ready to pick up a new customer just in front of the large vehicle. Azov whistled and waved his hand in the air, in an attempt to catch the attention of the driver. Trying to make his way into the middle of the tourists, Azov left an eye on the driver to see if he would answer his call. Azov didn’t see whether or not the man replied to his cry, but did not wait any longer than he had to. He immediately opened the passenger door to the taxi and hunched over, smirking to the taxi driver.

“How much would it be to get me to Maiden Inn?”

Agent Michael Bracewell swiped his security badge over the sensor, and was rewarded with the door sliding open for him. He strode down the hall with a confident gait, turning into another hallways and finally another security door. As it shut behind him, he spoke up.

"Good afternoon" said Michael, in a way that sounded jovial yet gave the distinct impression that it was, in fact, not a good afternoon. He got the requisite "Good afternoon, Sir"s from the staff of the international sector security wing, and snatched the folder from director Bon Jovi. Agent Bracewell scanned the documents therein in a practiced sweeping movement, and Bon Jovi could see the wheels begin to turn. Suddenly, he tossed the folder back to Bon Jovi.

"Pick him up" Agent Bracewell ordered, but the director was hesitant.

"Are you sure he needs to be arrested, he could--" Bon Jovi was cut off.

"Do not second-guess me, director. If I were not certain, I would not give the order. You called me with a security concern, and brought me to the security wing, so you have a security problem. You will see to it that the problem is fixed, and fixed quickly. You should not require me to walk down here and tell you that. In case you are not aware, Mr. Bon Jovi, you work in the security field. You don't deliver flowers, you don't serve wine, you identify and take action on security threats. Your concern is security, and security does not come after customer service. If you think so, you are in the wrong industry. Now, pick Mr. Smith up and bring him to my office, and I will get this straightened out." Agent Bracewell stalked back to the door, but stopped and turned. "Oh, and don't make a scene of it, we wouldn't want to alarm the other passengers."

By this time, Bon Jovi had fallen all over himself amd was rifling through the folder, stricken. Turning his frustration to the problem at hand, he ignored the stares of those around him and picked up his walkie talkie.

"Ned," the director asked, "What checkpoint is Paul Smith at?"

"I don't know, sir" Ned spoke haltingly. Bon Jovi spun, furious, but saw the pale Ned Benedict cycling through the security cameras like a madman. The screen that had him perfectly framed three minutes ago was now empty, happily displaying a lounge and vending machine with no Paul Smith to be seen. "He's... gone..."

--------

Agent Bracewell walked calmly back toward his office, irritated at being interrupted. No point in not looking busy, he pulled out his Blackberry and ran over his email. Someone brushed by his shoulder, and as he spun, he saw the security guard sprint past, shouting a quick "Sorry-sir". It wasn't an uncommon thing to see a guard here in a rush, but Agent Bracewell saw two more fall in line with the one that had nearly knocked him over. He looked to the right, more running guards. To the left, a policemen was striding toward the nearest checkpoint, eyes alert. Behind him, two policemen and a guard jogging through the international wing, being joined by another.

"Oh, hell" muttered Agent Smith, as he traded his Blackberry for his cellular phone, looking down the long hallway toward the concourses as guards and policemen were making haste for the checkpoints and exits. It wasn't a good afternoon at all.
