Rules of the ICBM

What are these rules as of before I applied for the UN I didn't know if I was aloud to buy one or not. I found a post that an ICBM was made and I was wondering if I should ask to buy. Can I purchase the Peacekeeper ICBM?

OOC: You can buy whatever you like.

You can indeed. It might bankrupt you, and it's fairly unlikely you can afford any nuclear warheads to put on it, and it would certainly be deemed a threat to Shildonian national security but otherwise go for it.

Probably. Depends how long he's going to spend paying for / making it.

and it would certainly be deemed a threat to Shildonian national security but otherwise go for it.
Why? As far as Im aware he hasnt had any dealings with you... what makes you think he'll turn around and nuke you?

Because in real life most countries are opposed to nuclear proliferation. It's called "realism".

Meh, technically you can buy it if you have the money, though it might not be a wise expenditure as of yet. One of the unwritten conventions of NS is that you shouldn't get nukes until your nation reaches 100 million population. To breach this protocol and not run afoul of fellow NSers, you would have to roleplay your nuclear program really well.

I used to go along with that rule, but it's just unrealistic and pointless...

America and Europe are afraid of nuclear proliferation because they think there's a possibility that the weapons could be used / use could be threatened against them, ie. North Korea (which they are technically still at war with), Iraq (which they've got to war with in the past) etc... you get the point. They have back history.

Personally I prefer B-61s and B-83s thermonuclear bombs in B-2s. Much easier to maintain, and less fuzz. Although I do keep a healthy supply of ICBMs, just in case.

OOC: Bad Ass Canadians(mainly)- Go for it if you want, but conventional(tanks and guns etc) would be a more realistic idea. As a young nation you wont have the money to get enough of them to make a big difference, but with troops and tanks you can defend yourself better, nukes CAN be stopped!

Also, what the UN says i ignore in general, after all, this game is about building and running a nation "to your own warped political ideals". Im thinking of making a proposal to limit the UNs power at the moment...dunno if i will though!

Anyone(bassically)
I agree, in fact, i think i may have to get someone to RP a nation of like 25million suddenly appear with 10nukes....excellent! All i have to do is to say its secret, that would cause such a stir....people would hate me! haha...

but seriously, North Korea probably has nukes and it is pretty small. If japan wanted to it could get nukes...its population is DECLINING from about 70million...the 100million rule is because people were scared, a noob with nukes is BAD, a non noob with nukes can be GOOD!

Cotland- B-2s cost billions right...? or $1billion at least...in that case, would a few ICBMs be cheaper...unless you had to get Subs (damn them expensive beasts...im putting some on loan! haha)

OOC:Well that 100 million pop limit is put in place to prevent those 'I just joined Nationstates and i want to buy 2000 ICBMs,' type of people. Its there to weed out the 'dumb' ones so to speak, as for those who are below the 100 million pop limit and have nukes are those people who Roleplay their nuclear development program so well that no one can object to it.

Anyway Vast Principles is right, nukes can only go so far in defending your nation from invasions, tanks, ships and airplanes defend better than a nuke.

P.S. I don't remember any below 100 million pop nations rping for nukes recently, I do remember myself rping the development of a N2 bomb and no one objected cause i flooded the thread with precise details and facts into its development, infact no one posted an objection at all, i need to find that thread.

And these ones aren't going to be used? Then why bother going to the hassle of acquiring them?
I will RP my nations foreign policy as I please, and if I decide that Shildonia will be opposed to nuclear proliferation then Shildonia will be opposed to nuclear proliferation and no amount of "Oh we aren't going to use them" will change that.
