Official announcement

After popular vote, the people has decided that the time of the Commonwealth has come to an end. A decition has been made for the alternate government: Empire! The first Emperor of Cotland in over 600 years will be elected by the nations wisest (the Parliament). Three men have claimed the throne.

Second official announcement

The wisest of Cotland has chosen former Elected Leader Thomas Rothsky, now Emperor Thomas I of Cotland, to be Emperor. Due to the total chaos in the constitution, the entity formerly known as the Parliament has instructed the Emperor to constitute a new constitution.

Parliament building, Cotlandstad

King Thomas I of Cotland exited the limo, accompanied by two aides carrying briefcases. Inside were the final version of the new constitution.

As the Emperor entered the parliament hall, he saw that all the representatives were present. Perfect. At the kings que, heavily armed soldiers quickly blocked the exits. Then the king began to speak.

Emperor Thomas: As you all know, you, good sirs, asked me to constitute a constitution. Here it is: The King gets full power. I rule, you obey.
-I have total control of the military and all matters regarding the state. I will have the power to declare both war and peace.
-I make the laws. The courts will carry them out. Any citizen can come to me and ask for the Imperial mercy. Even if they are condemned to death. I shall listen.
-Parliament will be disbanded, and replaced by a smaller, more nimble organization elected by the people! That means that all of you will need to actually campaign for your positions. Taxes will be placed upon the people by you, but with me running the show. You will all pledge your alliegance to me.
-The cabinet will be called the Imperial council, and will consist of people elected by the people, but approved by me. The number and name of the positions will be decided on a later date.

Essentially, I get all power. Now, you have a simple choise. Accept the constitution, or get shot by my men. You have 1 minute to decide.

The Emperor looked at the men and women in the hall. They were schocked. They surely hadn't expected anything like this. As the minute passed, the Emperor looked back up at the people in the hall.

Emperor Thomas: The time is up. How do you vote?

One after one, the persons in the room approved of the constitution. When the vote ended, all members of Parliament had voted in favor of the constitution, thus saving their own lives.

Emperor Thomas: Wonderful. Thank you ladies and gentlemen. I now declare Parliament for disbanded. Have a safe journey home.

And with those words, Emperor Thomas I left the Parliament building. Soon, he would speak to the nation on TV.


OOC: This is just like the Danish King Christian IV did in 1660 when he was entrusted to write the new constitution. History rocks! :D

My fellow Cots.

Today is a historic day. Your voices were heard, against all odds, thru the corruption and lazyness of the old system. Today, a new system has been introduced. Cotland is a commonwealth no more. Now, we are an empire, and I, Thomas, stand before you and thank you for allowing me to climb the throne of Cotland and lead us into the future.

The following will be changed.

The nation is an empire. This will mean that the military and police will wear some slightly different uniforms, but their tasks are still the same. To help you.

The government will be totally restructured. The cabinet has been replaced by an imperial council, which will be elected by you. Naturally, I'll have to find out if I like the persons you elect. Parliament has also been disbanded, and will be replaced by a smaller elected organization. They will have similar roles to the Parliament.

Everyone has the right for an imperial pardon, should they find themselves in trouble. Since I am one of the people, you will have the possiblity to enter my office almost always.

The military, ministry of justice and police, and the other ministries are under my control. That means that I decide what they do. I also have complete control of the army. This is positive, because now, we won't have any more "who's in command" mistakes anymore.

The empire is inherited from father to son. That means that my son, James, will be the next emperor when I die.

These changes will be put into motion immediately. Do not fear, for they will clence us for the corruption and mistrust in the politicians. You will not be restricted from traveling, voicing your opinion, or protesting. In fact, I encourage it. It is for the people I do this, and I devote my life to making Cotland a better place to live in for us all. Tomorrow is a national holiday, in celebration of the birth of the Empire.

Have a nice and peaceful evening.

But "lest not it be known that history is doomed to repeat itself until such time as it's mistakes are learned." The Emperor wishes Cotland the best of luck and may prosperity fall unto thee.

How could I deny the awesomity of that...

In response to the recent coup within the former Commonwealth of Cotland all Hyperbian offers off military aid to Cotland have been withdrawn. Cotland vessles approaching Votholum port will be turned away any attempting to enter the harbors will be destroyed.

Therefore once again as decreed by the Corprate Council all free nations may appeal to the Hyperbian military for aide.

We are willing to hear appeals for assylum from any former citizens of the now Cottish Empire.

Theocracys and Dictatorships will not be tolerated.

I gather you have intercepted the televised broadcast made last night, but failed to understand it properly. The transition from Commonwealth to Empire was the will of the people.

By popular vote, 96% of the population decided that they wanted an Emperor instead of an Elected Leader. The only thing different with the transition to Emperor was that the Emperor was made sovereign ruler by the new constitution.

I thank you for takeing the time to read this comunique, and I would like to invite you to the coronation next week.

OOC: "Empire" is not a form of government. What you're becoming is a "dictatorship" or "autocracy".

We will attend your coronation, but what sort of gifts are given at Cottish coronations? Most commonly at our coronations there are gifts representing the Gods or Godesses the royal family is blessed by (always Mumman+one other god, currently Mumman and Mendalia), and women for the harem.

You have misinterpeted our objection to, and well utter discust of, your new form of government, we are well and fine that your nations people need not the checks and balances of a multi-house govenment and wish to put all power within that of an emperor. Our problem is in your new emperors chosen costitution, effectively forming a military dictatorship.
This form of govenment has not and will never work, we urge the people of Cotland to rise up against this new corrupt regieme and win back their freedom.

A seperate thread. I'm gonna start it soon. Been to busy with school. It's the end of the semester, and I'm waiting for my grades. I know for sure that I get at least 3 5'ers (the Norwegian equivalent to B+) :D
