Operation Shapur: Invasion of the Former Kelonian States (Earth II)

The Parthians

In the Khorasan province of Iran, the news came quickly, the government of Kelonian States had collapsed and anarchy was breaking out with local military commanders taking control of small provinces. The cities of Samarkand and Merv, once Persian and part of the Sassanid empire were open for Persian reconquest. It had been 1300 years since Persian armies set foot in the ancient cities, and now, they would again.

-Persepolis Palace, 7 miles outside Persepolis.

The Shah smiled at the news, the oppurtunity had come to restore Persian rule to Turkestani provinces. With the area falling into anarchy, little could stop the Persian advance if it was quick enough. Even the Khorasan garrison could do it alone. The Shah called the general of the garrison and told him, "You see the news, exploit it!"

-A few miles from the border of Turkmenistan

Parthian F-22s and JSFs rapidly moved over Persian airspace and into Turkmenistan. In the front, E-6s moved in, jamming enemy radars before unleashing a barrage of HARM missiles. F-22s came in and fired off barrages of AIRAAM missiles while JSFs hit known military positions with napalm and clusterbombs. It was a brutal display of force capable of shocking anyone. On the ground meanwhile, the hammer moved in as M-110 203mm howitzers fired off a set of shells followed by lighter M-109 howitzers firing their own load. MLRS systems unleashed a barrage of rockets filled with cluster munitions. Now, it was up to the other forces to exploit the gap.

OOC: Just for clarification, consider this a claim on all of the former Kelonian Sate's territory.

Satellite 3-CS-56891-A, 670 km above the Earth surface

The Cottish KH-12 'Lacrosse/Onyx' spy satellite flew 670 kilometers over the Earth surface, looking down at the former Keldonian States. The nation had erupted in anarchy after the government fell, and due to the relative proximity to Cotland, a satellite had been redirected to survey the nation, to make sure that no military forces made any moves against Cotland. But what the satellite saw now was Parthian forces invading. The satellite routinely sent down to the command center 60 meters under the Cottish Ministry of Defence.

Satellite Command Bunker, Ministry of Defence

The data was recieved by a sleepy sergeant, who transmitted the data to the officer in charge. The officer, a Captain in the Air Force, checked the news against the current Cottish troops stationed at the border, and saw that the invasion force were not likely to advance to Cotland. At least not yet. Besides, the Parthians had never shown any agression against Cotland. The only Cottish reply was to increase the alertness a notch, and to maintain the surveilance.

-Afghanistan

A minor Persian force was being prepared south of the Amu Darya river. This time, Uzbekistan was the target. As night began to fall, 30 F-22s, 45 F-16s, 10 JSFs, 10 A-10s and 4 E-6s moved over the border with the E-6s leading the way, jamming enemy radars before unleashing HARM missiles at the sites. Following them, F-22s and F-16s scrambled to destroy enemy aircraft with AIRAAMs as the JSFs and A-10s moved in to destroy enemy troop positions. Rocket assited artillery shells from the M-110s and M-109 artillery crashed down on enemy troops as moblie bridge systems were layed across the Amu Darya. Smaller artillery inundated the oppsite shore with shells until it looked like a cratered moonscape. It was essential the bridges came under no attack before the 3 Infantry and single tank division got across to rapidly crush enemy resistance.

The city of Ashgabat, the capital of the old nation of Turkmenistan was within sight. It was only a few hours march from the Persian border and that was to be the downfall. Two divisions of Parthian troops were busy surrounding the city while an armored regiment stood by preparing for te siege. The Shah had ordered as little damage as possible was to occur to historical areas, complicating the situation quite a bit beyond the normal carpet bombing tactics. Instead, satellites had pinpointed areas in need of destruction, the poor slums filled with the unfortunate many who refused to flee despite constant orders to do so. M-110 203mm howitzers fired off hundreds of incindiary shells, followed by a burst of shells from the M-109s. A-10s shredded civilian areas with cluster bombs as fire consumed the ghetto of the city. Six hours of bombardment reduced the new parts of the city to ash, then, with one final volley a strange whooshing sound was heard throught the city. Few knew what had happened when many began to drop dead. A cloud of VX was scattered throughout the city, killing most of the rest. With the final barrage, soldiers wearing CBW gear and M1-A2 tanks began to slowly advance into the city.

IC:

On the border of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan there was a single city sitting on a peninsula of Turkmenistani land surrounded on three sides by Afghanistan. It was the city of Gyshgy, now surrounded on three sides by a small Persian force of an infantry division and one regiment of armor set up seige positions on all three fronts while a smaller regiment sized infantry force moved in to cut off the last side of escape. With the civilians and military trapped in the city, the bombardment commenced, this time it was a short single volley of shells which failed to explode, instead hissing and spewing their deadly contents. Within six seconds, those who had no CBW gear and put it on lied dead on the ground. Radioes blared to life, "Advance into the city, be prepared for some resistance." With that, the men advanced in groups on the sidewalks scanning windows, bundled up in their CBW suits while supporting tanks and IFVs rolled down the streets. Occassionally, they found someone not quite dead from the gas lying on the street, but they were promptly made dead with a shot of an M-27.

IC:

The 45th and 105th Infantry divisions and the 405th Armored Regiment moved rapidly through the Kara-Kum desert towards the minarets of Gyzylarbat growing ever closer as the army moved in for the kill. The Persians cared little for this pathetic city, and the first strikes confirmed how they felt as A-10s moved in to napalm and strafe the city with their massive vulcan cannons. Higher in the air, massive B-52s unloaded massive amounts of bombs upon the city below. Several were filled with VX and Sarin, and would quickly put any survivors to a quick death. Crusader artillery systems quickly stopped, and then unleashed a barrage of rocket assisted shells full of VX directly towards the city.

Abdul Mouhammed was on his knees in the middle of the plaza, turned towards Mecca, deep in prayers to Allah, asking for strength enough to kick the infidel Parthans out of his homeland. Suddenly someone approached Abdul. He grabbed his AK-74 and aimed at the person approaching. It was Hamza, a close friend and next in line to command, should Abdul die.

Abdul: Salaam aleikum my friend.

Hamza: Aleikum y-salaam. Everything is set. We are only waiting for you. The Parthians are outside the city now as we speak. There is no time to loose.

Abdul: We are setting our entire arsenal against them?

Hamza: All 500 tanks as ordered. And the planes are waiting. The pilots all volunteered. They are ready to meet Allah in paradise. Insh-Allah.

Abdul: Insh-Allah. That is good. We will need them to rain fire over the infidels' cannons. Let's go.

The two men quickly walked off to a waiting BTR-60, who would bring them to the battlefield where the bulk of the remaining military was waiting. Today would be a good day to die.

General Dariush Esfahani ran in to Marshall Jamshid Sardarizadeh's office with intelligence reports in hand, the gas attacks were unsucessful in killing all the enemies. Thousands of troops were still alive and well in Gyzylarbat, Ashbagat, and Gyshgy. A-10s guarded by F-16s moved into the cities' airspace and began to unleash payload after payload of napalm and cluster munitions. Troops were kept outside of town and unloaded mortars and howitzers on whatever they could.

Another volley rang out from the M-110 howitzers. From the cities of Turkmenistan, it seemed like a howling storm was closing in upon them, preparing for death, the inhabitants fled for cover, within buildings and wherever the least bit of protection from the shells could be found. As the shells came in, they did not explode to the relief of the poor people, but instead, deadly VX gas began to pour from them into the cities full of civilians. In six seconds, many would die.

"Mehmet, they're gassing the city!"

Mehmet, the tank commander of one of the T-80UM tanks that remained, looked first at Ali, the gunner who had shouted to him. Then he looked back at his home city. His wife. His children. Being gassed. 'No. It can't be true.'

But it was. The VX gas that the Parthians showered over his home town left no reason to hope. Being out of his mind in rage and sorrow, Mehmet ordered his driver to head on towards the Parthian army that stood 7000 meters away from them. 'They would pay dearly for their cowardness' he thought as his tank raced towards the Parthian lines. Seeing the lone T-80 starting to drive off, the other tank commanders thought that the attack had started and started to drive off themselves.

"Abdul, have the attack started?" Hamza asked. Abdul looked up from his portable waterpipe, filled with the finest apple-tobacco, towards him.
"Of course not. Why do you ask?"
"Oh, no reason in particular. It's just that all our tanks are driving towards the enemy lines."
Abdul jumped out of his seat inside the BTR-60 and looked out. Indeed, all the T-80s were driving off. 'Fools. Don't you realize that you are going to get slaughtered?' he thought furiously. "Stop them. I don't care how you do it, but stop them. Go!"
Hamza nodded and disembarked the BTR-60. 'How in the seventh hell am I going to manage that? Allah, help me.'

From the binoculars of General Jamshid Zahedi, the figures of T-80 tanks grew ever closer. Zahedi smiled, the fools were rolling directly into a carefully prepared ambush. He motioned to his radioman who brought him a small portable radio, "Air command, this is General Zahedi, we see a group of heavy T-80s moving in and request immediate air support" The radio blared to life, "Roger, 5 A-10s are headed your way." We have all the information we need. From the skies above, he could see the planes move in closer and closer, their massive 30mm vulcan cannon pointed directly towards the Arab tanks. In a roaring noise, the massive guns began to spit coke-bottle sized rounds tipped with depleted uranium capable of penetrating thick armor at the approachin column. Each plane then pointed their nose upwards as no less than 6 hellfire missiles roared off the wings and headed straight for the tanks. On the ground, TOW missile batteries and the ETC guns of the M1-A6s opened fire, setting off lines of smoke and flame as they rocketed towards the enemies.

Mehmet never saw his death from above come. The only comfort he might have had, had he known, was the fact that he would meet his wife and children in Paradise.

Abdul on the other hand was infuriated. Already, not one minute after the idiots started to drive off, he had lost 384 of his prescius T-80s. The remaining idiots didn't know that they should surrender, so they kept on attacking. Some even managed to get off a few rounds that actually hit something other then the ground.

Well well. He had a clever backup plan. He massed two hundred of his most loyal men and gave them each their Semtex-suit. They would go among 300 civilians in amongst the Parthian soldiers without them (the Parthian soldiers) knowing of their suicidal ideas. When there, they would detonate the explosives, hopefully taking some Parthians along with them to the Paradise as slaves. The Paradise that promised each martyr 40 virgins.

The crowd of over 500 persons, women and children included, wandered off towards the Parthian lines. They carried with them white flags, hoping that the Parthians wouldn't shoot them. The wannabe-martyrs wore the Semtex-suits over the finest white linnen. Their death-scroud (sp?). They were all chanting "Allahu Akbar". Allah is great. Surely, Allah would be with them on their heroic and holy mission.

A pair of Humvees near the battle exploded in a sheet of flame as lucky shots rang in on the Persian lines. An M1 was hit by the shell, which caused little damage thanks to the heavy DU armor protecting the front of the vehicle. About 10 soldiers had been killed as well by the rounds. From the burning wreckage of the armor, the Persian soldiers could see the crowds of men, women, and children moving forward. General Zahedi smiled evilly and then spoke, "Kill them." A chorus of rifle shots rang out as M27 assault rifles unleashed three round bursts into the crowds. M249 SAWs unloaded their box magazines into the advancing people before a few squads charged forward with scimitars in hand, preparing to cut apart what theuy thought were the innocent people.

The martyrs kept the women and children in front of them as shields. This had the consequense that only three martyrs was hit from Parthian bullets. When they saw the Parthians charging them with scimitars, they waited till the enemy were among them before detonating their explosives.

In a horrible flash of light and noise, 58 of the 150 troops were killed. Many lay sprawled out on the ground, injured by shrapnel or simply knocked over by the force of the blast. General Zahedi fumed with anger, these Muslims had killed Persians in a cowardly and despicable manner. For these crimes, the city would pay, nothing would remain alive. Into the narrow streets, M1-A6s poured in a column with troops walking alongside scanning buildings for signs of enemies. In their CBW suits, they moved in with squads ocassionally moving into buildings to kill the survivors by removing their arms and allowing them to bleed, or throwing them from the roof.

In the house sweeps, many had been injured horribly or killed. 300 Persian bodybags were being taken out of the city thus far, and more would flow if the current tactics were not reworked. Now, the Persians were ordered to set homes on fire with flamethrowers and shoot those who tried to escape. Small mosques on the edges of town were stormed and within them, the Persians stripped the walls of gold and everything of value before they Persians pigs and let their blood flow freely through, contaminating the building created for holy worship of their massive black box in Mecca. Others spray painted the walls or urinated on piles of Qurans.

Seeing that there were no way they could win against the infidels, Abdul ordered all the 137 000 remaining martyrs to go to Allah. This meant that they would get into their Semtex suits and try to get as close as possible to the Parthians before detonating the explosives. The suits had been rigged with a idiot-proof detonator, so that when they got it on, there were only one way of getting it off: by going BOOM! After Abdul prayed his last prayer, he grabbed his AK-74 and ran into the street, firing at the infidels while yelling at the top of his voice "Allahu Akbar" - God is great - repeatingly untill he was killed, shot down in a hail of fire. The Parthians might have taken the land, but they would not take the spirits of the inhabitants. They would forever whisper the stories to their children, of how valiantly their fathers and brothers had fought against the infidels when they were invaded. "Allah Akbar" would be what they would be remembered by. "Allah Akbar".

"Suicide bombers approaching fast", screamed the tank commander as the hordes of people ran towards the Parthian troops strapped with suicide vests and running with the desire to become martyrs. "Fire, fire, fire, Kill everything not Persian" was the order of General Zahedi. Infantry fell back, running with occasional bursts of their M-27s aimed to cut down the martyrs approaching fast. The plan was simple, pull the infantry back and let them kill themselves on the M1-A2s, impenetrable to all but the strongest anti-tank weapons. These tanks wheeled their guns around towards the incoming hordes and fired off flechette rounds, covering them with shells which gave way to needles capable of piercing flesh. The tanks began to turn around and fire away as the suicide bombers grew ever closer.

Most of the suicide bombers were killed by the Persian soldiers, but some managed to get up close and personal with the infidel invaders, detonating their explosive suits in their face. No soldiers that was within 15 meters survived the blast, with a 50% fatality rate up to 25 meters away from the point of impact. When the attack was over, all 137 000 suicide bombers were dead. Most had died from the bullets of the Persians, but many had blow them self up as well. The remaining bodies of the dead would claim many more Persian lives when they tried to remove the bodies. The Jihad was been successful enough. Soon, hopefully many more muslims would riot against the infidels and restore the reign of Allah the merciful.

Abdul went down in a hail of fire, taking more then 20 Persians with his as servants in Paradise. Finally he would meet his family again, God be praised. That thought was the last think Abdul Mohammed ever experienced in this life.

"Fall back, fall back" screamed Lieutenant Bahram Esfahani, it was too late for him as a woman covered in a veil jumped onto his APC and detonated herself, killing him and the driver instantly. Nearly a whole division worth of troops was dead, 20,000 had been killed by the horrible and vicious attack. Now, it was payback time as Persian troops moved to occupy the rest of the former Kelonian territories. The city of Samarkand was shown special contempt, being the capital of Timur. People who looked like Mongols were led outside the city and impaled or burned alive. A forest of people dying upon stakes and of burnt corpses upon poles littered the outside of the city. The body of Tamerlane was taken from the sarcophagus and then covered in pig blood and urinated upon by Persian soldiers. The mosque containing the tomb was ransacked of valuables and then burned to the ground. Statues of Tamerlane were pulled to the ground by tanks while Persian soldiers cheered. Other cities were attacked differently, with only the citizens who looked like Mongols were killed by impaling or lynching upon a lamp post. Almost 3,000,000 ethnic Mongols had been killed by the time the commanders called a halt to the massacres, it was revenge for what they had done to so many people, revenge for China, for the Ottomans and Seljuks, for the Russians and the Poles, and most of all, for the Persians. Now, only Mongolia would need punishment, and Shah Khosru wanted to forever leave it without any life stirring across the entire nation.
