So far this has been a simple operation. Basic gene splicing and genetic alteration. Nothing ground-breaking. Still the desired result has elluded us. Developing a genetic monstrosity should be easy with all our equipment, but nothing we've tried has fixed the flaws within the creatures. Even our most recent attempt, the Mk. 4 has shown too many undesirable traits. I fear that if we cannot correct the problems within the month our funding will be cut and this program will fade into obscurity, even among the officials financing it. We recieved word from command that effective the moment we recieve confirmation we are to initiate extermination protocol and will be returned to our previous lives.

Department of Diplomacy, The Unrepentant War Machine of Roach-Busters
Secretary of Diplomacy Chong Moua was absently shuffling through various meticulously-documented, scrupulously analyzed reports on different nations, each report thousands of pages long. "Let's see...Kahta commits genocide, Decisive Action has a new immigration program, Parthia wipes out a bunch of Shoobans, Gen-"
The phone rang.
"Moua here. What!? What the fuck? Shit...shit, shit, shit...yes, of course. We'll do everything we can to help Shenyang. As a fellow member of C A D, we will do whatever we can. We have always enjoyed pleasant relations with Shenyang. I'll call the Department of War right away."
One hour later, 15 Marines were being deployed by helicopter to rescue the imperiled scientists...

OOC: Masspwnage, of course you can help, you can never have too many people involved in a rescue can you. Also RB, as soon as your men arrive I'll breif them.
IC: The Shenyang Army had arrived on the scene in typical fashion, armed well enough to destroy a small nation. They set up a perimeter around the weather station that disguised the enterance to the facility. Any overhead satillite could plainly see that they had deployed the entire 5th infantry as well as the 2nd Airborne and the 14th Armored from the number and insignias of the ground forces, a squadron of Comanche gunships patrolled the inner perimeter, they knew what the facility contained and weren't taking any chances.

The helicopter descended onto the runway, the door was thrown open, and immediately, 15 buff, burly, bloodthirsty Marines who were in a decidedly asskick-ish mood jumped out, wearing Imperial Guard Urban Assault Combat Systems (armor bought from Doomingsland) and wielding M85IG SubMachineGuns (again, courtesy of Doom).
They saluted the Shenyang officials. "Reporting for duty."

The commander of the operation, Brigadier General O'neill braced as the helocopter landed.
"Come with me, its cold out here." the general leads the men into the command tent and starts up the tactical display unit to show what they'd be up against.
"Okay, here's the situation, at apporximately 22:42 hours there was an accident in the facility over there, well that building as you probably guessed is only a front to hide the real facility. About 6 months ago we began work on a genetic creature to use in situations that we wouldn't send a person into. You know, 40 to 1 odds, that sort of thing. Unfortunately we've been unable to correct problems with what was created. They all met the basic requirements, but each new version had a flaw that would make it too dangerous for our men to handle. Here is a map of the facility.
*brings up blueprints of each floor on the display*
"Okay, the breach in containment occurred here." he says pointing to the lowest floor of the 12 story facility. "From what we were able to gather from a security panel on the first floor it seems that one of the Mk. 3s got out of its cage and released the others. Since then they've slowly made there way through the facility toward the surface. Currently their advance appears to have stopped here." pointing to 7th story, "We have been given clearance to give you all the information about these things we have. Unfortunately that isn't much, but this is what we know."
Changes the display to show a tactical readout of each type.

A blizzard was starting. Not that it would matter too much, however it might force the men to dig out their tanks, something they loathed doing. As the storm approached it became obvious that there were 6 aircraft flying infront of it, surfing the storm the men called it. The 6 DC-117A Dropships accelerated off the face of the storm and swooped down to low altitude, approximately 20 feet above the ground and hit the afterburners to put even more distance between them and the storm. They swept into the command compound and landed in formation around the command tent.

The occupants of the 4 full dropships walked into the tent at this moment. Clad in urban camoflauge and covered from head to toe in armor they made a rather imposing impression, all 32 of them.
They carried a plethora of weapons. Including: M60s, AK-110s, M14s, Jackhammer shotguns, M-109 payload rifles and a few SPAS-12s
Completely clad in their armor fatigues they looked rather imposing.

Oniell: That was the plan, the thing is once the scientists entered the ventilation system we lost contact with them. So you'll probably have to fight your way through to find them any way.
Colonel Johnson(leader: ODST team Able): How about this. We insert through these roof vents here. Then we move down to the elevator shafts. We've got what, 6 teams here. We can each take a floor and sweep it for Shamblers and scientists. Then we'll meet up on sub-floor 6 and proceed into the infested part. Just because the sensors aren't registering them doesn't mean they aren't on the upper floors. This way we can make sure that we won't be attacked from both sides when we enter the lower levels. My teams will take floors 3, 4, 1, and 5. So which floor do you want?
He looks at the force that has assembled to help the scientists from behind the face screen of his helmet and waits for a response.

The ODST teams board the dropships and prep for take off. They lift off and fly to the roof of the building and blow the vent covers with C4. Now they wait for the other forces to catch up. While they wait they send 1 man into the vents that lead to their objectives to do some scout as to what is the easiest way into the elevator shaft, and how they plan to open the elevator doors. A slight lull in the snow accompanies the men entering the vents, making the men outside feel that this operation won't be all bad. The soldier who entered the third vent, callsign Patriarch reaches the elevator first. He looks down the seemingly endless shaft and drops a glow stick down the shaft to chenck the depth. Once it hits the bottom of the shaft he radioes the other men in the vents to pull out. He didn't notice the shadow hidden against one of the walls at floor 8 as he walks back through the vents it slowly begins to climb farther up the shaft.

Bludshot: We cleared the last room, nothing there. Wardog, hows it coming?
Wardog: Nothing yet, I tell ya this place is creepy when its empty like this. Wingman, report your status.
Wingman: We're clearing the next room in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Go! All clear.
Revenant: This is Revenant, I think I've got something here. It looks like a computer has been left on. Dwarf, check that thing we'll cover you.
Dwarf: Roger, looks like a security computer, low level access though. I can get security camera feed but not much else.
Revenant: Okay, check the control room camera.
Dwarf: Damn! the camera isn't working it must hav been destroyed.
Revenant: Okay, lets continue, all teams be on the look out for the main security room, it'll be a larger titanium door marked restricted access.
The teams continued to sweep their floors, guns aimed downrange, eyes alert, ready for anything. On the surface a security specialist and his escorts were waiting for the security room to be located. Totally oblivious to the danger down below.

Able team was coming to the next room. Like all the others it had a metal door with the name of the room on the outside. In this case, bathroom (mens). Following standard ODST protocol they stationed 2 men at the door so that when it was openned it would already be covered. the other 6 were in assorted positions in the hall. 3 were preparing to enter the room, 1 prepared to kick in the door and the 2 were covering the team's flank. All in all a pretty basic set-up they thought. Eventhough this environment was far from typical.
1, 2, 3! The infiltrators entered the darkened room, the power was out on most floors. As they systematically cleared each cubicle they became aware of a shadow slumped in the corner. It wasn't moving and wasn't making any sounds. Once the cubicles were cleared they went over to check the shadowy mass. When they looked at it through their NVGs they saw something that would have sickened any normal soldier. It was a security officer. His face transfixed in sheer terror, a rough slash across his throat and a hole in his stomach, where all the vital organs were either gone, or on the floor. This told the men 2 things. First, that the security on this floor was pathetic, only 1 guard so far and they were almost done with the floor, and second that there were already Shamblers on the 3rd floor.
Revenant: All teams, be heads up, the creatures have atleast breached floor 3. Repeat all units inside the facility, there may be Shamblers on any floor up to floor 3. If you see anything that isn't human and isn't part of facility itself you are authorized to eliminate it in whatever way is necessary. Surface, we have a breach in floor 7 containment, can you confirm? I want to be kept heads up on everything that you see on the security cameras.
Oniell: Affirmative, we'll keep you posted of all developments. Just keep moving.

OOC: Any ideas as to what happened to Roach-Busters? He hasn't posted here since the 22nd and I saw him post somewhere else.
IC: Delta team had cleared its floor and was now preparing to drop down the elevator shaft to floor 6. As they moved to the shaft they noticed something on the night vision, there was an 8 foot hole in the outer door to the shaft. As they came closer they noted the scratches on the floor and a molted husk, obviously left behind by one of the Shamblers. They realized they weren't alone on this floor anymore a moment later.
Wingman: All infiltrating units, we have absolute proof that floor 5 has been breached. We may require back-up.
Revenant: Affirmative, we're is one floor above you. We found a mutilated security officer. We'll clear our floor again and come to help. Bravo is also en route, so hang tight.
Wingman: Affirmative. Colonel, do you think these things are stalking us.
Revenant: I hope not.
As the communique ended a scratching sound came from the shaft ahead of them. The men took up positions to fire into the shaft if anything that shouldn't be there came out. The men tensed, all they could do was wait.
Meanwhile on floor 4 Able team was finishing their second chyek of the floor, with the same result. They heard the sound through the shaft doors. as it passed by they slowly moved toward the doors. preparing to open them and fire down on the intruder.

OOC: Now that the first kill is out of the way, this can get going.
IC: The Able and Delta teams waited for the creature in the elevator shaft to make a move. I appeared to be waiting between the floors, as though it was anticipating they'd get impatient. Unfortunately for it ODST soldiers spend more time behind enemy lines waiting than they do training. Another thing the Shambler hadn't counted on was that on floor three the trigger happy Bravo team was about to blow the elevator doors in there usual fashion, with just a "few too many ounces" (2 pounds) of C4.
Bludshot: "Okay, its rigged. Polaris, would you do the honors."
Polaris: "Thank you sir! I'll make this an exploion we'll never forget."
Bludshot: "I trust you will." he said, instinctively shielding his eyes and deactivating his NVG system.
As Polaris depressed the button on the detonator a charge went from it to the C4. It exploded, causing the doors on the shaft to fly back, into the shaft and smash against the wall before falling down the 9 floors to the bottom of the shaft. The Shambler saw this, through its segmented eyes and as any creature would, instinctively ran for the only cover available to it, the hole it had made into the 5th floor. As the terrifying creature, a Mk.3 clambered into the floor it saw the soldiers waiting for it, had it been a human it would have sworn so loud that the people on the surface woiuld have heard it. All of Delta team openned fire on the monster, upon hearing the ruckus Able team openned the doors and fast roped down to the next floor. They came through the hole and upon landing openned fire themselves. Trapped in a 2-way crossfire the Shambler found itself being torn apart by the awesome firepower being concentrated on it. As it went down it let out an ear-shattering screech and what was left of it fell over. Revenant walked up to the dead creature, drew his Mk. 23 Socom and fired a shot through the creature's skull and into its brain stem. An act that showed his utter hatred of these foul creatures.

"No, no, there's more... more... OPEN FIRE!"
50 Shambler Type 3s burst out from the nearest wall. The Skorpions opened fire with everything they had, including the 4 plasma flamethrowers they had with them.
A whole bunch of Shamblers went down, either riddled with bullets or roasted medium rare.
But more came, hordes.
They closed the distance.
Some of the human members of the team were torn apart at once, being the weak primates that they were.
Then the lizards went to work.
The Lizards, being much larger and fiercer animals than the Shamblers tore them apart with their combat knife sized claws and talons and impaled them through with their tails.
They eventually, despite being cut and bitten repeatedly, forced the Shamblers back into the hole. Another Skorpion threw a few high explosive charges into it. Good. The Shamblers on this level should be dead.... Right?

OOC: By this point all 4 teams have met up and are now moving as 2 large units of 16 each.
IC: A slight hum was audible all over this floor. A low, almost inaudible rumble. The mee were unable to explain it until they found the back-up generator room. As they cleared the room they noticed something hidden in between 2 generators, an other scientist so far that made 2 that had been found, he was stairing fearfully at the large vent cover in the ceiling and babbling about how they'd killed his assistants, in there. The team put him back in the machinery where he'd hidden and moved to investigate the large vent. As they entered they noticed abrasions on the floor in places. Gashes through tothe next floor in others. Whatever had happened in here, it was certainly violent and certainly not the work of any known Shambler variant. As they progressed they saw a shadow flitting toward them, it was definitely a Mk.1 Shambler. All the soldiers aimed their weapons and waited for it to enter their engagement zone. Revenant sholdered his AK-110 and drew a pair of weapons that he'd had made for him. A pair of matching UMP .45s that had been custom made for his hands and this sort of situation. They were an interesting hybrid of normal UMP and custom engineering, the clips were inserted in the normal fashion, but the safeties were set at opposing angles and the ejection port was reversed on the one in his left hand. This setup meant he could fire both without the shells getting in his face, also these particular weapons had been modified to allow for a much higher recoil with less than half the recoil, he kept them in shoulder holsters specifically designed for these weapons that allowed him to cross draw them. Once they were readied he and the rest of the combined team waited.

The creature drew nearer, as it came into the light that was filtering in through the vents it became evident that this was not a normal Shambler, if there even was such a thing. It moved forward with a malice that could only come from an ego that made it feel superior, its shell glinted hinting at its ultra-strong hide and its maw dripped with what was apparently some type of acid, as it ate through the metal vent. Lastly, before it enterred the engagement zone it did you final thing. It vocalized, immediately the men knew this was on of the ones that had attacked the control room in the transmission. The creature made one error though, it came into range. immediately and without remorse the ODSTs openned fire with everything they had. Men were firing AK-110s in one hand and SOCOMs in the other, the men carrying payload rifles began to fire with deadly accuracy into the creature's abdomen and in the midle of all of this Revenant openned fire with his twin UMPs and tore an enormous hole in its throat with the sheer volume of fir that was concentrated there. The payload rounds were detonating on its hide, tearing away the exoskeleton bit by bit and the M14s and Jackhammer shotguns stopped it cold in its tracks the creature, once an arrogant mutated monster now was reduced to nothing more than a pile of organic matter scarcly 3 feet high, if this was the next mutation though, then there were more than likely stronger creatures all over the lower levels, no doubt feeding on there smaller, weaker bretheren.

Surface Command Post
Oniell: You know we're patched into the facilities communication and accoustic sensor systems right, we can here everything you say, anyway I told you it was a program to take soldiers out of suicidal situations by sending a creature instead. And what happened to the RB marines!!! They haven't made a peep and we can't pick them up on any of the security systems.
Floor 10
Revenant: Okay, we're coming up on the main test facility. Power's out here so activate your NV systems, don't want to get caught off guard here.
Team: Affirmative sir.
The team moved toward the door ahead, it was marked simply: TEST AREA. As they approached they noticed a faint humming again. They assumed it was an electrical short somewhere on the floor. They took a HE grenade and some duct tape, secured it to the door, pulled the pin, and moved back outside the blast radius. After a 3 second delay it detonated, blowing the door out of its track and damaging the walls around it. The High Command wouldn't be happy about the amount of damage being done to their facility, but that was the price that they payed for trying to replace the man wth the monster. None of the men wanted to see their jobs taken by these creatures, it would mean that every single ODST who wasn't assigned to GovDef. were going to be out of the job. That was a set of events that none of them would enjoy that event.
As they entered the test lab they immediately fanned out into a large circle so that they moved as a unit and could cover all directions at once. The room was roughly 1000 feet in all directions, except up. And was full of obstacles and barriers, in short there was plenty of cover for both sides, and the ODST were not at a disadvantage.
Shenyang
26-01-2005, 02:41
The team slowly pushed forward, clearing the room area by area, cover to cover. Somehow not realizing that they were being watched from above. A lone Mk. 4 was clinging to the ceiling, awaiting the opertune moment to strike. It saw the men enter in infra-red and had watvhed intently the whole time. A payload rifle armed soldier passed under it, and that was when it struck. Dropping from the ceiling with a shriek it fell the 25 feet to the floor. The soldier heard this and immediately dodged to his right and aimed up at the falling beast, firing twice and then diving farther away so as to avoid its claws. The rest of the team turned intime to see the beast land and swing its claws at the soldier, who dropped to the deck.
Revenant: Archangel! Archangel respond!
Archangel: I'm okay, just kill it!
Revenant: Fire! Fire At Will!
Once again a scene of extreme violence errupted as the men openned up with their weapons once more this time though it was totally surrounded and had no way to escape. It was driven down beneath a hail of fire that left its exoskeleton pocked in places and shattered in others, its soft internal mass exposed and obviously riddled with bullets. A definite victory against the Shamblers.
However one man was still pesimistic. Revenant looked at the creature and said, "One down, only one million to go."
