Questions are being asked tonight in the Imperial Parliament about the suitability of Admiral Thomas Hardy to continue in his current role, after he was overheard making racist comments at an upper class restaurant last night.
Admiral Hardy was dining with his wife when, apparently annoyed at the bumbling ineptitude of their Waiter, who was from the Indian Subcontinent, was heard to remark:
"You know, they're all useless. Bloody Hindustanis- I mean, I like a good curry as much as the next fellow, but now we've got the recipe, do they really have to stay in the country?"
Admiral Hardy's Liason Office has since said the Admiral was "misquoted and taken out of context", whilst hinting that the Admiral might have overindulged in the Claret.
Admiral Hardy's wife has also insisted he isn't racist. "He hates everyone equally" she explained to reporters this morning.
His Imperial Majesty Emperor Royce I has commented that Admiral Hardy can expect "A Severe Talking To", and he "wouldn't be at all surprised if some of the lads decide to tar and feather him, either, to be honest. And as long as they don't get any Tar or Feathers on the carpet, I think that would be an acceptable punishment. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get Tar out of the carpet? In fact, there's a knighthood in it for anyone who manages to work it out. There's a Life Peerage for anyone who can totally remove some of those really stubborn stains from my Master Bedroom, espec... Oh dear, is that microphone on? Can you edit that last part out? There's a good chap..."

"This makes the news? Wow! It must have been a really slow day."
Czarina Alice Fabus
"Why should they care what a man says when out to dinner with his wife, on his own time. Are not people in Roycelandia even free to think what they want anymore? Perhaps this should read "Personal Liberties Scandal in Roycelandia", in the name of political correctness, you've taken away this man's rights. If he wants, he and his wife will be granted Mississippian citizenship and all the immunities and protections it offers."
Czar Roger Fabus
Xenonier

I must agree with statements issued by The Czar Roger Fabus.
This man has made his own personal comments, with the obvious intention of not making them public (So as to not deliberately offend people) and the media and governmetn thinks it is fair to sanction the man? Hypocritical! People should be allowed to voice their opinion, as long as it doesn't affect anybody. You are merely attacking his right because your own people are sugar-coated, or so it seems.
If this man has signed agreements swearing he was not to ever commit these actions, our comments are void.
Ambassador Hedy Pilru, of The Xenonian Protectorate.
The leaders of Decisive Action have repeatedly demonstrated that they have no interest in freedom of any kind, much less freedom of speech, however in this particular instance the Czar has made a legitimate point.
Which is more important? Freedom of speech, or political correctness? The ability to express one's opinion without fear of punitive action, or avoiding expressing it at all, just in case you hurt somebody's feelings?
This is a case of enforcing your own morals on somebody else, nothing more, nothing less. Surely, this man has an important position within your nation and if he were to make such comments in some official manner he would need to be dealt with. But when off-duty, his opinions are his own and he should be free to express them, even if he cannot act upon them.
For a tolerant society to succeed, first you must learn to tolerate the intolerant. Otherwise, your system is but a hollow shell of freedom.

Far from the madding crowd of racist apologists, the few Beddgelens who choose to keep abrest of minor interest stories from distant Roycelandia have stopped way short of outrage, but still harbour -and will express if pushed- the sentiments of a civilised people.
Summing-up the official Igovian position, Commonwealth Chief Consul said, "A man is, or should be free to think on any subject and in any discipline that takes his interest, that is quite right. To think ill of another simply for the sake of race alone is inarguably wrong, and should always be corrected as any error, but -unlike some more innocent mistakes- that of racism is actually and seriously dangerous, and is encouraged only under violently primitive regimes such as the failing Sinoese military junta."
The Chief Consul's remarks were made in light of the public's vocalised concern over the unhealthy direction of debate on the wider issues raised by Hardy's alleged remarks, which in and of themselves would not have been considered a matter for official Soviet Commonwealth comment.

It has been reported that Admiral Hardy's problem wasn't so much the making of racist comments, it was the misfortune to have been caught making them in an upper class restaurant where people who might actually care were listening.
His Majesty has since "suggested" that the Media turn their attention to the goings on in Al-Ahzad and Angola, and less on what the Admiral of the Navy thinks about the waiters at a popular restaurant...
