Tomorrow's Future [ET1]

Asurnahb

OOC: This is kind of an introductory piece, which explains why it's kind of on the long side. Pardon any errors, I just got home from work, and I'm sleepy, sweaty, and smell like Oil.

As the post states, I'm looking for other Nations to set up Embassies and Trade/Military Agreements with, or even some conflicts. Whichever.

IC:

"My Lord, you called me for counsel, what is it that you ask of me?" Micheal Green spoke softly, trying to hide his nervousness.

Green stood at the great pedistal-like desk, which King Jogchem mounted with a hunched and faltered posture. The aging King looked over various papers that layered the table-top, his dark eyes squinting through thick glasses, which he held steady by his withered arthritis-stricken hands. Green simply stood there, awaiting a reply...though it was obvious that he went unheard. He took the few uneasy moments to take stock of what he saw.

Through the dim light of the single lamp that cut through the stale gloom of the King's Counsel Chambers, Green looked upon his King. No longer did he see the tall and proud man that once graced the position of the psuedo-king of Asurnahb. All he saw was an old, small and decrepit old man. King Jogchem began the notion of sucession, he took the Texas state legislature by storm, and stole the hearts of nearly every Texan in his goal of becoming a self-supporting nationstate.

Louisiana followed, Arkansas and later Oklahoma were dragged into the rip-tide. They banded together and formed a small, yet prosperous Nation, with each state retaining their names and called provinces instead of states. It took many years for it all to come together though. Civil Wars broke out, social uprisings reigned, all was anarchy. King Jocghem took his place at the top of all of this, and slowly, but steadily, carved out what was to become the great Nation it was now. Only in Jogchem's waning years did success show itself, as the political climate cooled. Corporations and Business was the name of the game. They were the congress, they were the law-makers, they were each given a section of the provinces, in which to own.

The ideal of "Human Right to Freedom" was replaced by "Work to live free," which seemed to work just fine. Asurnahb was growing and stabalizing, it was prosperous and had a well-trained and robust work-force. Every goal the King had set to fulfill had been completed. Though Green was still troubled by the look on Kind Jogchem's face.

It was a look of urgency, of fear. He seemed rushed in the way he read those documents, as if he were a dying man looking over his will one last time...and that was technically what it was.
The King was not a King, simply an elected, life-long head of state, and King Jogchem was ailing, hsi health was worse every day. He didn't even make public appearances any more, fearing that the sight of him would make people look towards dissention, which the people of Asurnahb were always good at.

Finally, Green spoke up once more, "My Lord Jogchem?..."

"Wha- oh, how long were you standing there, Mr. Green?" King Jogchem said with a hushed, slightly startled tone.

"Not long," Green fibbed, "what did you call me here for, My Lord? It's 3:00am."

"You and I have very important matters to attend to. Matters I trust no one else to...leave with." He said, as he took his glasses off, his hand shaking uncontrollably.

"What do you mean, Sir?" Of course he knew what he meant, everyone in his presence knew. The man's life was a winding down clock.

"You know what I mean! Don't patranize me!" King Joghcem stood striaght up in a sudden burst of anger, before he grabbed his palputating heart and sat back down...catching his breath for a few seconds. "I am dying...you know this as well as I do. I am not going to be here for very much longer, but there is still so much for me to do, that I possibly cannot. So I leave it up to you, my most trusted friend...to do this for me..."

King Jogchem handed Green one of the many envelopes that were on his desk. It was marked "For eyes only" in bold red. Green opened the envelope and pulled from it, the papers that it contained. The jist of it could easily be taken from the heading on the first sheet, "Invasion of New Mexico," written in large font.

"Sir! You can't be serious! I don't have the power to authorize a war," Green stammered, obviously surprised.

"No, but you will serve the next King as his Advisor...and you can push the ideal through," King Jogchem's voice suddenly turned deep with gloom, "You would not want to disappoint a dying old man, would you?"

"Sir...no Sir. Even if I can make this happen from the sidelines, we don't have the military power to invade."

"Not yet. Though we will. The last thing I will do, as King, is insure its future, Asurnahb's prosperity. To insure that the true Southron states be brought together into one Nation. I am planning to procure a very large contract, with whom, I cannot say, for I have no confronted them yet. It will take several years to complete...at the end of which time, you must make my plan happen. If you are unlikely to be alive then, give instructions to you replacement..."

King Jogchem turned in his chair, staring out the large window. Only a slight glare from the lamp impeded the view of the blue, green and yellow lights of the city a few miles away, quite a beautiful sight, really.

"In the mean time, we must find allies in the world. I am to have a bulletin sent to all interested Nations about an embassy exchange...non-agression pacts, trade agreements, etcetera. We must have a foot-hold in the world's influence before we can do anything..."
