Should Cotland become a Kingdom?
Should the Commonwealth of Cotland become the Kingdom of Cotland?
There has been a large voice of opinion regarding the change of ruling in Cotland. Should we change from the Commonwealth we are in today to a Kingdom?
What sort of Kingdom? A constitutional monarchy, or an absolute one?
These things affect the decision-making process.

Semi.. The King is the head of state and government, but has a people-elected government.

if not a kingdom, then some other kind of single leadership, like an Empire, or follow our example and become a Sultan. But down with the people, definetly

Whats the point of a King if he's elected by the people?
Can't he just, y'know, use his all-mighty powers to get rid of the democratic system?
Thats what Emperors/kings are SUPPOSED to do! D'uh!
Weren't Polish Kings elected at some point in history; if not by the people then the nobles at least?
OOC: For the record, Holy Roman Emperors were elected by the various dukes within the Empire, so there is historical validation to an elected monarch.

The idea is that you have a ruler of a country who can assume any title that they want- Prime Minister, President, King, Emperor, Lord Protector, Chancellor, etc.- and while the title implies a certain role it does not mean that role could be altered (for example, Constitutional Monarchs do not have any real power at all in the state). In a highly traditional society such as my nation's, people will look to keep an institution such as the Empire intact, maybe altering it a little so that it can fit in with modern times. We went on the course where the Emperor can keep his sweeping and decisive rule but only on a number of conditions, such as the fact that every six years he has to get re-elected to continue ruling. The Emperor, like any real Emperor, can issue a Royal Decree and have it implemented the next day- he does not have to pass it through a Parliament first. We see this as the advantage of our system, as it maintains democracy but allows for it to be much speedier than it is in a Parliament.

you should definitely have it only be the nobles, not those lower class peasantry, decide your Emperor, or whatever he decides to call himself (it'd be cool to have a crazy ruler, hmmm... maybe my sultan could go crazy or something....), oh no, now i have ideas, not good

Official Statement from The Grand Imperial Empire of The Island of Rose:
The Grand Imperial Empire of The Island of Rose suggests that the nation of Cotland adopt "Asexual Empire", "Imperial Dominion", or "High Imperial Kingdom" as a prename. We recommend that the Constitutional Monarchy is instituted, the King being chosen by the People. If the nation of Cotland does not listen to us, that is their problem. But an Autocracy won't make many people happy. Look what happened here, but at least I got a new job. We hope that you choose wisely.
