King Arimandanes of Thebes gazed out the window that he seemed to spend most of his life gazing out of. He had not been prepared for these sudden battles. It was too much for a young king with amibitious plans involving Athens. He turned his head. Echemus, one of his only allies in the world, let alone Sparta, should know of these plans.

To:The Echemi Family in Sparta

Greetings,

As ruler of Thebes, I feel obliged to tell you, my loyal ally in a town that is my loyalest ally, my plans. We are training a lrger army, expanding our forces. The world is a bad place. But Athens is worse. And it is not far. Get my drift?

Echemus was enjoying a drink of fine wine (that must of been blessed by Dionysus it was so good) when he recieved the letter from King Arimandane.

"Looks like somebody's been busy..." he talked outloud.

"Ah! We mustn't attack Athens now!" he talked outloud. "We must defend against those Persians, as the Oracle of Delphi told us to."

He wrote the following response:

"We understand your views on said nation. To be honest, we feel the same. They are not trustworthy, and their imperialism threatens Greece as a whole. However, we have enemies to the East that pose a threat to all of Greece if you know what I mean.

Signed,
Echemus of Sparta."

"Send that message out to Thebes with an escort of one-hundred Elite Hoplites", he ordered.

King Arimandanes read the letter with a slight expression of confusement. What Enemies? The east? Persia menaced again? It was mind boggling. The Thebian king spilled some wine at the thought, picked it up, and responded.

Greetings,

We shall cancel our attack, though not our troop movements. By enemies in the east, do you mean Persia? Hellas(Not only us, but all, even Athens) is in trouble if they do. May Apollo bless all.

OOC: Whoah. Whoah. What's is the deal in Thessaly? As far as I know, I sacked the capital city and drove off the Cretians with the help of Thrace, and Great Elves or whatever was on and posted at that time. At anyrate, he may not be destroyed, but the fact is Macedonian and Thracian armies have taken control of most of Thessaly. And so . .

IC: To What remains of the Thessalian Royalty:
It is obvious now that there is no way your armies can defeat us, and loss is inevitable. But if you surrender(and not take it back this time) we may have a solution. You and you're royal family will be installed as military governors of Thessaly, which will be a satellite state of Macedonia and Thrace. You will have complete control over the country again, only your armies are under our command, as is your treasury, although you do control them directly. We hope this can be the solution to a bloody ordeal.
King Antiochus

To Thrace: At long last we have achieved our objective, and Macedonia salutes you. Thessaly should be divided up equally, should no further complications arrive, as I will send you a copy of the treaty sent to Thessaly.
Would the southern half be acceptable? You will have the bay and port cities, and the capital of Larissa can be split between us. Yes yes?
King Antiochus

To Golencia:
We have heard of your troop's movements to Thessaly and are much concerned. It is currently occupied by both Macedonia and Thrace, and you would have to come to an agreement in order to land here. Thrace and Macedonia are allies, and so if you ally yourself with Thrace, why do you not do so with Macedonia?

The King sat in his chair when he recieved word that the Delos were paying their required money. He was pleased. The Aide also informed him that the Rhodesian Fleet had landed and the Army began it's march to what was left of Thessaly.

"I want every man in there relate to their governmet KILLED! No one with power is to survive!" Yelled General Ptlemos.

The Rhodesian Fleet stayed to the shore to carry the Army to Crete in Aide of its noble allies. The General wished he had gone for Crete first, so in exchange he decided to hurry and massacre the government officials in thessaly, and leave it to whom may want it.

"Hurry men! We must ride to Crete!" General Ptlemos yelled as the Calvary of 140 Rode in Cutting down every man who simply looked important. Unless of course the men kneeled in surrender. Then they were spared and taken as a Slave.

We had no intentions of keeping this burned land stained with blood. Our troops simply needed excersize. The Slaves are being loaded onto a ship and sent home to Rhodes.

General Ptlemos was glad to see their success. He immediately loaded his men up and they set sail for Crete. The Slaves however were being sent home in a smaller fleet.27 Slaves were killed before reaching Rhodes when they attempted to overthrow their captors. All the others were beaten.

We do thank you for your offer of sending troops to Crete but we are in no danger in our homeland protected by our mighty navy. However our past danger was in the capital of Thessaly, where 500 Cretan warriors lost their lives against the Macedonican forces and the barbarians in Thrace.

The return of the Persian officers took some of the pressure off of Rhodes, but not completely off. Artaxerxes himself did not trust the new Rhodesian king, and he would express this to the Rhodesian. If he knew he were suspected, he would be very foolish, very very foolish, to act against Artaxerxes. Even with the generous amount of troops sent to Greece, the Persian army was so numerous it could invade Rhodes without blinking.

Now was the time for action, now was for setting words aside. Now the fate of Greece would live or die, now the swords and spears of Persia would be put to the test. That the Persian fleet had been sent to Thessaly empty handed was merely a feint, a ruse intended to confuse all involved in the invasion. That Persian troops had not landed would confuse all, and the obvious answer was that the Hellespont was a much better place to cross. But Persia had not sat in Asia Minor idle, and had built transports.

These transports were now boarded, and the Persian fleet was recalled to protect these ships at all costs. The entire army was going to land in Thessaly. It would be a heroic effort in ancient times, but one that had been in the works for quite some time. The entire army of 50,000 crammed into vessels of all types and makes, many acquired merchant ships, many of them transports, and still others regular members of the Persian navy. The ships set sail for Greece, where their fate--good or bad--would be met.

When the army arrived on the coasts of Thessaly, it was split into two groups of 25,000, so that they could attack from two sides. King Artaxerxes commanded one of the armies, and the other was taken by his son, Achashverosh II, whose name in Greek was Xerxes II. Artaxerxes wasn't even Artaxerxes's Persian name, Artakhshatra The two royal leaders then marched for the capital of Thessaly, where they hoped the Macedonian and Thracian armies were. One army came from the north, led by the King, and the one fom the south by his son. The two royals would not go down in history as the kings who ruled from afar, but as the nobles who had a real stake in the battles.

"Do you think we can do it, my wise sire?" It was a soldier who had heard of the Greek victory over Persia in the Persian Wars, and he had bravely come to the King for guidance. "Yes, my soldier, we can win. In fact, I feel that we have won. Greece stands divided. There has been no Athenian army brought here, no Spartan army, and even some of the Greeks spill their noble blood as allies of Persia. No, we can not be defeated, not now. If they had all allied and all stood before us, our victory would be in doubt. But they have not."

(OOC: If anyone feels I should start a thread, speak now. Also, post if you feel that Persia cannot in any stretch of the imagination land this force in Thessaly. I do believe I already posted that I was building transports, but there are other arguements I have considered. Feel free to strike with full anti-Persian bias in OOC cries of godmodding on the landing side of the invasion. I will happily argue that side of the invasion.)

Artaxerxes was in Greece, of course, and so was his heir. That left an interesting situation in the Persian camp over who would go to Crete and what he would say. It would be too risky sending the message to the King now, and he could not come to Crete or Rhodes or Persia in any case. A meeting of a few local satraps decided on what they thought the King would approve of, and the so-called Council of Satraps sent a messanger to Crete.

"The King's anger waxes hot, and the people of Persia are charged with wrath. This anger cries out for the King to avenge his allies, and he has done so with arms. He marches forth with his son in the army of Persia, and we satraps have taken it upon ourselves to rule as a council in his stead.

The crisis in Thessaly is to be resolved immediatly. The time of diplomacy is over, the time of the sword is now, and Persia has landed in full glory in Thessaly. The noble Cretan ruler will be crowned King of Thessaly, and the swords of Persia shall avenge the dead Cretans who fell to the tyranical leadership of Thrace and Macedon.

For your conference, we will send Artaxerxes II, heir to the throne should Xerxes II fall in Greece. He is of us Satraps, and he knows the counsel of his father. We will send him to Crete now."

And so Artaxerxes II left, gaurded by one hundred Immortals. Such an important person demanded Persians gaurd him.
____________

Meanwhile, the diplomat met with the Cypriot delegate. "Yes, the trip was just fine. But we Persian diplomats are not trained to chit-chat with others. We are trained to talk, diplomatically, of course, but we must talk business. I will be blunt. Persia is an Empire of tolerance and freedom, and we let many rulers of our subjects stay in power as local leaders. Some even call themselves king of their state, under the Persian King, of course.

Persia is willing to allow Cyprus the freedom to have its own ruler call himself what he likes, and enact many of his own local laws. But he must serve the King, and submit to his higher authority should the need arise. Does this strike you as fair?"

Yes you would be allowed to roam freely, and you would be in charge of the capital directly, as you are the rest of the country. Except that you would always have to answer to me or King Vineyard of Thrace, and would be under our jurisdiction. You may be based in the capital(as the governor-general), but it and all of Thessaly will belong to Macedonia and Thrace. It is quite a generous proposal, and we hope you will accept it, instead of us having to assasinate you.
King Antiochus

To Thrace:
it is done, and we leave the southern half in your hands, and urge you to keeps troops here, as our fighting probably isn't over. United we stand.

OOC:Persia: I have no problem with the logistics of the Persian invasion, but you forgot that the entire fleets of Macedonia and Thrace are around thessaly(check thread for original invasion of Thessaly), and you would need some kind of naval battle before you landed. Also, it would probably be a good idea to make a new thread, seeing how just the dividing up of Thessaly has cluttered up this thread so much, and the grand invasion you are staging will take up even more . . .

Lord Vineyard, King of Thrace and Lord of southern Thessaly, was catgorizing and counting his treasure that was agined from the capture of thessaly. While examining peice #344, something chashed into his tent. He whipped around, sword drawn. There, standing in front of his King was a scout. The only problem was, the scout had an arrow in his back.
"Perssianss....... comming.....here!" The man collapsed onto the floor, dead. He dashed outside the tent, where an encirclement of concerned archers and soldiers surrounded his tent. A scout squirmed his way through the crowd.
"My King, an army of 50,000 persians has come to invade greece. Opon landing they divided in two and are currently flanking us."
The king smiled.
He turned to one of his lutenients.
'What is the number one rule of an invading army going up against a mighty foe?"
"Don't divide, my King."
"Exactly. Scout! Go get the army of macedon, tell them to meet us somewhere on the left flank, where we will be slaughtering the foe. The other half of their army is on the otherside of thessaly, they are too far to help their friends now! Onwards brave soldiers of thrace, prove to these persians that there are still brave thracians that tred this land!" As he stalked away, the soldiers cheered, then went to prepare their armor and weapons. King vineyard saddled his hourse and put his armor on. He spurred his hourse to a group of messangers.

"Go to the following countries and tell them of our plight. I plan to divert the persians long enough for the armies of greece to form into one large army. Tell them speed and agressiveness is the key!" The messengers bowed and took their messages.

IC:

The Slaves had arrived at Rhodes where a gratified King awaited them. He immediately made them goto Farming for the poor, and even had some in The Royal Court for laughing at.

Although fun prospered in Rhodes, the Army on the Fleet was not as happy. They had sailed to Thessaly, killed hundreds and then to Crete only to turn to Delos. King Alexander II was worried the Delos wouldn't pay their money on time and was sialing his army to make sure everything was accomplished.

Message to Delos:

We the people of Rhodes demand 100 Slaves a year, to go with your annual payment of 2400. Our Army will be marching to your territory where if you refuse to continue payments you will be invaded. Make your decisions wisely, as we much prefer peace over a harsh war. Which will surely include your demise!

Echemus recieved both messengers at exactly the same time. He rushed over to the Ephor house to meet with Pliestolas.

"We cannot risk our alliance with Crete!" he said to Pliestolas.

"Yet we cannot do the same with Thrace. Therefore, we must send some covert. A spy perhaps. Maybe mercenaries. I know!"

Echemus sent Karsten Echemi, his son, to buy mercenaries all around the Peloponnesus. With him, he sent one hundred elite swordsmen wearing Thraceian colors.

CRISIS EVENT ONE

Nobody living knows how it happens, but the dreaded "Black Death", or "The Plague" has broken out in Northern Europe. It is spreading rapidly, and is expected to hit Northern Greece (Macedonia, Thrace, and Thrassaly) in a week if it does not slow down.

"Sir!" Yelled a young messenger.
"The Slaves and payments have arrived, however we're in trouble, there's word of a Black Death heading to Greece. We hope it will pass us, but we cant be sure!"

"Calm down, everthing's gonna be just fine." Alexander II assured the Messenger.

He stared out the window and wondered if His army would be in Jeopardy.
"son, i want you to give me full status of this thing Daily, if it even nears our Military near Delos i want you in here as soon as you hear word, ok?"

"Yes sir."

King Arimandanes' dark eyes were wide and frightened at the news. A plague! Here! He had to do something. The king took a deep breath, had a glass of fine Theban wine, and then spat it on the floor when he realized what he was doing. Drinking when people were dieing! Something had to be done!

Sarimarius was a merchant selling his wares. He was from the east, Iberia, some called it. A bunch of heft guards walked up to him, shoved him, and thrust him out of the gate.

"What the....?

"Law. The Plague. Thebes is sealing off it's borders. All foriegners are to leave at once."

ooc: *sigh* the Black death came about 2,000 years later. There was a smaller plauge thast hit the area around this time... but it pretty much was on the Northern West area of greece. Thrace, i believe, was not hit.

IC- Message to Athens-
WE NEED AID! The persians have invaded with the ambition of conquering all of greece. there is an army of 50,000 at our borders. My army is only 40,000 men. I can not take this threat alone.

That is the Persian invasion of Greece thread. As Seluecia suggested, there will be a naval battle, and the invasion and all related events should go there.

OOC: "The Black Death" is the same exact thing as The Plague. The Plague struck Athens hard in 430 BCE, which is exactly the date it should be today, as the starting date was 431 BCE for this Earth. The Plague was suspected to have traveled from the barbarians of Central Europe (Rome: Total War also follows the same storyline), and traveled south through the tradeing routes. It hit Macedonia and Athens, but you are correct that it did not hit Thrace, as it was too far northeast.

Hint: You can spread the Plague easily... :) Bio-warfare in 430 BCE, anybody?

The Macedonian King paced around his palace thinking.King Hercules the V, illegitamite blood line of Alexander the Great, was the King of Macedon, the most powerful nation.

My king, Cornith wishes for an alliance, what shall i say to them?said the King's mail reader.

Tell them that we will ally, only to these terms:
1.)The give us 100 gold pieces every year.
2.)When we call for their support, they come as soon as possible.
3.)We make our own alliance with a few other cities that will crush enemys.
4.)They give us a Princess.
5.)We will trade weapons, and ideas.

These are the only terms that i require.
