This is gonna be my thread for Gambia's struggle for independce from the Elephanti government. Any EARTH II PEOPLE ONLY who want to participate could, as long as they have some reason (coming to the government's aid, helping the rebels break away, invading while I'm in the middle of a civil war, etc.)

Overview of Gambia-Gambia, and its capital Banjul, was once a bustling trade center, bringing supplies from Manama to Omaha, as well as back. Omaha Street became crowded with theaters, restaurants, and a few less respectable establishments. Banjul became a vacation spot for workers from Bahrain, and hotels popped up everywhere, growing more and more lavish as time went on. The Royal Palace was decorated with valuable works of art, and all was good.
Suddenly all of that changed. The governement placed Nebraska up for sale, and Banjul's status as the best port in the country. The port slowed to a crawl compared to its old days, and the great hotels and buisnesses left, leaving in their place strip clubs and crime bosses. The final blow came when the government bought Kerala and Tamil Nadu, installing them as Elephanti provinces. The only jobs available were dock workers, stagehands, and tour guides. Then gangs became commonplace, the gang led by Boss Ishpoo, an Indian immigrant, was by far the biggest, but as most of the members were broke and jobless, it was very poorly equipped. Ishpoo's biggest rival was Boss Mbao, a Gambian by birth who controlled most of the surviving buisnesses, and even had a small fleet. These two bosses had control of most of the city, and even with the military mobilized, the government only controlled the tourist areas, and the slums surrounding Omaha Street grew poorer and poorer, until someone decided to make a change.

The two biggest crime bosses in the province were together in one room, talking to Mbao's pirate captain, Hitta e-Varitta.
"But, Gambia, how can you two pull that off?"
"It's simple, four days from now one of Mbao's men will..."
Ishpoo continued telling e-Varitta their plan.
"This just might work"
Mbao spoke, "It will, trust me."

A security guard was patrolling outside the Ubuubuke Hotel, pistol in hand, when he saw a tour bus go by.
"Hey, Opopo, wasn't that supposed to stop by here?"
"I think so, maybe they changed the route."
The guard turned to look at the bus and saw it heading towards the naval yards.
"Oh F---, Opopo get the police on the..."
He stopped as he saw the bus, loaded with passengers, slam into the Fatoto, a LCAC at the docks.
By the time emergency crews got to the bus, the driver was already dead.
As emergency crews were busy in the Naval Yards, The Ibn-Iliz, a Prometheus Oil tanker, was returning home full of fuel. Nobody noticed the torpedo speeding towards the ship.
There was a blinding flash of light and an enormous sound as the ship was destroyed. Flaming oil was spewed all over the mouth of the harbor, as well as on boats in the harbor and nearby buildings. The attacking submarine managed to slip away safely.

Jeff McIntyre was tired. He had been on a continous watch for close to 24 hours now, guarding the main gate of Foxtrot Naval Air Station, a Cottish outpost in the middle of Gambia. Based there were 12 F-16 fighters, 6 C-130J transports, 2 infantry brigades (10 000 soldiers) and a fleet consisting of more then 20 warships. Jeff was responsible for the main gate, and that no-one tried to cross from Elephantum to Cotland (the base is considered Cottish soil). To aid himself in that, he and his guard-buddy Phil each had an XM-8A2 personal defence weapon, a FN Five-seveN sidearm, and a radio connection to the main barracks, where the two infantry brigades currently slept due to the time of day.

Suddenly, Jeff saw a bright flash in the horizon. WTF..., he thought before asking Phil what the hell was going on.

Since neither Phill nor Jeff could answer that, Jeff radioed up the Duty Officer, 1st Lieutenant Smith.

1st Lt. Smith: What the hell is it McIntyre? I'm sleeping here!

Jeff: Sir, somethings happening here. A fire in the horizon. It looks like its from Banjul.

1st Lt. Smith: Right, and I'm the fairy Godmother. If its something serious, call me back. I'm going to sleep now, and if you wake me up once more, I'll have you court-marshalled for waking me.... wait a minute. I could get court-marshalled for sleeping. Never mind. Just don't wake me, ok?

Jeff: Sir, the consul is in Banjul, and it's our duty to help them if they need it. At least call the detachment at the consulate. Sir.

1st Lt. Smith: Fine. I'll call them.

Jeff wasn't convinced that the Lieutenant would call, so he pressed the big red button that read 'ALARM'.

Suddenly, the entire base was alive and ready. Soldiers came running out with their clothes somewhat on, rifles ready in hand and helmets on. The ships in harbor started their radars and engines and prepared for the worst. Fighters prepared for take-off, just like the orders prescribed when going into alarm mode.

Calls were being made to both Cotlandstad and to the consulate, who could report a hell of a lot of noise. The decition was made by the base CO, Rear Admiral Branson, to reinforce the military presence at the consulate.

Before long, two CH-53 Sea Stallions loaded with infantrymen took off from the Base Helipad, accompanied by two RAH-66 Comanche gunships. At the same time, a convoy of armor (1 M1A2 Abrams, 2 M2A3 Bradleys, 1 M-113s, 2 M1114 HMMWVs w/12.7mm MG) left the main gates guarded by Jeff and Phil and headed for Banjul and the consulate.

Firefighters rushed all over the city, putting out fires. Fortunately the ship was near the outside of the harbor, sparing most of the city from the worst destruction. Unfortunately, for those same reasons, most of the entrance to the harbor was blocked by wreackage and burning oil and the sky was filling with a thick black smoke. From the command center of the Royal Palace, Governor Jufa e-Mendalia had ordered the 1st Banjul Infantry to install martial law, soon to be reinforced by the two reserve divisions. The 2nd Division would be there by nightfall, its sister unit was two days away. The Governor realized how vulnerable they were, with the navy trapped in port and the air force unable to fly due to the smoke, which thanks to an unfortunate wind, was blowing into the streets, turning day into night.
**********************************************************
As people fled to their houses, the gang leaders began to move. All up Omaha Street, gangsters broke into theaters, restaurants, and hotels, killing, looting, and fortifying. Most of the nearby area, generally known as the Omaha Slums, where the cooks, actors, dancers, and prostitutes lived, was already theirs. Tommorow they would make their presence felt in the tourist sections.
_________________________________________________________________
OOC1-Cotland, I'd be careful. The government would probably know you're here to help, but the ordinary people might think you're invading, which wouldnt be good.
OOC2-Anyone know how long a fire like that would burn for? The firefighting efforts in the harbor are hampered by the smoke.

Cottish consulate, Banjul

The helicopters landed at the consulate, and the infantrymen rushed out and secured the perimeter. The platoon commander, Lt. Simmons, hurried inside the building along with five snipers and two infantrymen. Lt. Simmons and the infantrymen would secure the consul and his family, while the snipers would take up position on the roof and provide cover, should the situation become nasty.

Streets of Banjul

Meanwhile, the convoy struggled their way thru crowded city streets. It seemed that the whole of Gambia was out in Banjuls streets. The lead vehicle, one of the HMMWVs, stood on the horn, trying to get the crowd out of the way. Most people was shocked to stare right into the barrel of a M-2HB heavy machine gun manned by a nervous 19-year old, and moved out of the way quickly. Others started to shout. Fortunately, local police managed to get the crowds out of the way before something terrible happened.

At least, untill one pedestrian started to shout out anti-Cottish slogans and the rest of the crowd followed. Scared sh*tless, the 19-year old soldier fired off a few warning rounds over the civilians heads.

ooc: Elephantum, you RP what happens next, ok?

As the shots went off, many went scampering for cover or ran away, but many began throwing things at the Cotts. The few police available rushed to force back the crowd, but people continued to rush to see what the commotion is about.
As people spread the news, it gradually got exaggerated until it was said that dozens of Cottish tanks were outside of the city, and that there was a Cottish battlefleet not far away. Panic spread and as the mob around the Cottish grew, people began marching towards the Cottish Embassy and Royal Palace.
"Everthing is going perfectly," thought Mbao. As the city turned on itself, his men had seized much of the lower city.
One mob was bombarding a police station on Kababale Hill with rocks when someone saw a line of vehicles and men moving towards the city (2nd Gambian Reserve). They panicked, thinking the Cotts were invading, and armed themselves with what they could find to fight the attackers.

Streets of Banjul

The Cottish soldiers were pinned down by the angry crowds. The leader of the convoy, Major Stevens, ordered the men to shoot a few warning shots over the crowd. Dispite the shots, the crowd didn't stop throwing stones, bricks, plants and other objects at the Cots. Some even fired weapons at the Cots, injuring the soldier manning the machine gun in the M-113. Cottish ROE are to fire when fired upon, so the major did what his orders told him.

Major Stevens (over radio to the rest of the convoy): They are shooting at us. Open fire!

All of the sudden, all hell broke loose. The Bradleys opened up with their 25mm chainguns, tearing down a few buildings along with several people while the men inside fired their XM-8A1s thru the slots in the vehicles sides, killing and wounding even more people. The lone Abrams fired its M240s and M-2HB while turning the turret from side to side. The M-113 fired into the crowds.

The Majors HMMWV started to speed down the street, mowing down people as it drove. The rest of the vehicles followed. Left behind were a street full of destroyed buildings and dead, dying and wounded Gambians. There would be more dead people before the convoy reached the consulate.

Cottish consulate, Banjul

The Cottish soldiers at the embassy, now numbering 48, were posted in defensive positions on the consulate walls with orders to shoot to kill if anyone tried to enter the consulate without permission. The CH-53s were ready to pull the people in the embassy out, should the need arise. The two RAH-66 Comanches were patrolling the Banjul skies when they saw the crowd moving towards the consulate.

Comanche 1: David 6, this is Comanche 1, we have a lot of civvies moving towards you, repeat a shitload of civvies moving towards you, over.

David 1: Copy that Comanche. Whats their ETA, over.

Comanche 1: ETA 7 minutes. We're heading over to check on the convoy, out.

The two Comanches flew towards the street when they got the message that the convoy was under attack. When they got there, the pilots saw what happens when bullets hit humans first-hand.

Following the convoys path of destruction, they caught up with the convoy 400 meters from the consulate gates. They made it there just in the nick of time, closing the gates just before the mob would arrive.

Now, the siege stood before them.

OOC- Brydog, 2 things, 1 Banjul has no official civilian airport, just Banjul Airfield, and 2, given the situation they'd just shoot you down. Given the situation and the havoc that one foriegn power is causing, a second won't help much.

IC-Crowds of people were swarming the docks, trying to get out of the city, but the oil still filled the harbor, and nothing larger than a small fishing boat could get out. The 1st Banjul Infantry was beating back mobs around the Palace, and fortifying Sultanate Square in case the attacks broke through that far. The 2nd Gambia Reserve was barely inside the city, under heavy resistance by citizens who believed they were invading (the fact that they are Elephanti troops doesn't seem to matter much) Police and volunteers were being attacked ferociously by those who believed the Cotts were behind it all, and their ranks were thinning.
The crime lords had control over most of the city, and most of the men fighting weren't their own. Ishpoo and Mbao had established control over almost all of the Lower City, and were slowly moving up Omaha St. Meanwhile, Hitta e-Varitta had snuck out of the city with his some of his men, and were preparing the 14 ships under his command to move at the city. With the Elephanti fleet largely trapped at harbor, they would only have to worry about the few ships that were on patrol at the time, and possibly Cottish attacks as well.
Unknown to any in the city, not even the governor, the High Sultan was dispatching units from Bahrain and India to quell the rebellion.

I kinda lost a post somehow in the middle, but its the next morning, the city is still in trouble as the bosses are arming the populace, the city is still on fire from the oil, the oil is barely being cleared from the harbor (they're using buckets to get it out, leaving it relatively closed. The following battle was between Elephanti ships who were out of port at the time and the pirate/rebel fleet.

1 Safeguard Resuce and Salvage
2 Amur Class Subs-1 sunk
2 Gepard Class Frigates- 1 sinking, 1 damaged
2 Fregat II Class destroyers-1 sunk
1 Slava Class Cruiser

As the two fleets spotted each other and began to move, helicopters patrolling the skies began to veer towards the ocean.
As the Elephanti ships moved into position, the Safeguard moved towards the harbor, its skills were needed elsewhere. Most of the sailors realized that the rebels were almost certain to defeat them, but still they pressed forward. The first Amur launched a salvo of torpedoes at the Oliver Perry, one torpedo missed, but the other two hit it, and the ship began to take in water. The other Amur tageted the Mericless Fury , one of the small Points. The tiny ship began to sink, attack helicopters strafing the wreckage to make sure none of the 10 onboard survived. As the rest of the ships attacked, the only other notable damage was on the Island.
The counterattack by the rebellious pirates was swift and brutal. As the pirates' subs launched torpedoes, the first Amur was ripped open, and began to sink. A Gepard began to capsize after taking several hits, its crew leaping overboard. As helicopters were launched from the ships, one damaged an Apache, another launching a torpedo at the damged Gepard, making it tip even faster.
Apaches, cobras, and Comanches shot down the helicopters, and also wiped out the command deck of the Island, leaving it essentially useless. The Amur got revenge for its fallen twin by finishing off the Island, a pair of torpedoes hitting it in the rear, destroying the engine, and making the ship rear up, slowly slipping beneath the seas. The remaining Point was laid to rest by the rest of the fleet, but they knew they probably could not win this fight, and ordered a pullout from battle.
The pirates opened fire on the retrating ships, sinking a Fregat and damging a Gepard. The Safeguard was already in the harbor, protected by powerful harbor defences and additional military reinforcement, so the pirates were forced to retreat back to their base, chased by helicopters and Ospreys the whole way, and losing the Knox to a lucky shot hitting the ammunition stores.

The Next Day, Banjul Royal Palace
The Governor sat on his throne, pondering. The death toll was enormous, and the military had lost control of most of the city. Suddenly, more bad news arrived
"My Lord, the 2nd Gambia has been pushed out of the city"
"Any word on the 1st Reserve?"
"they're bogged down, but they should be here by nightfall"
"I may have a plan, get the Emergency Line up"
"Yes....sir"
After a few minutes, the High Sultan was on the Governor's private phone line.
"My lord, I have a plan of attack against the rebels" while waving his guards out of the room.
"You have not taken care of them yet?" The High Sultan asked menacingly.
No, they havecontrol over most of the city, the major bosses have united. The only way I can see to take care of them is......" as he detailed the plan, the Sultan's support grew stronger and stronger.
"The civilians will pay a terrible toll, but aside from that I believe it is a perfect plan."
"The civilian casualties are of no consequence, remember The Book of Mumman's teachings"
"It is better to sacrifice one thousand innocents to punish the one who is guilty than to allow the herectic to go unpunished and taint them all" (Book of Mumman 13:6)
"Exactly. We will need a name for this operation. Hmm....perhaps Operation Varitta's Mercy "
"It is fitting" the governor responded.
(Varitta is the godess of death, war, money, and violence in Elephanti religion. "Varitta's Mercy" is when she wipes the sin from the planet so Mumman can repopulate it, essentialy whats going to happen)
"Well, Governor, I will leave you to begin implementing our plan. May the Gods bless you and your men today"
"Thank you, my Lord"
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
"But there will be horrendous casualties among the civvies, why?"
"Because that is what has to be done," The captian replied
The artillery of the 1st Banjul were assembling at strategic points throughout what little they could call their controlled zones.
He knew that the 2nd Gambian Reserve was doing the same thing outside of the city, and some other captain was answering the same questions. Soon there would be a third frustrated captian, the 1st Reserve was only a few hours away.
The captian thought he should pity the foolish criminals who tried to overthrow them, or at least the civilians that would be put at risk by this. He remembered that, being a practioner of Varitta's teachings, he was giving them all the pity and mercy possible.
Imagine the power we are unleashing, he realized. Under his artillery section (1 per division) there were 108 M777 Towed Artillery, plus the other divisions' artillery, there were 324 artillery pieces attacking. His men and other vehicles were taking up position to move forward and deal with the attacks that would follow shortly after the operation commenced.
"Captian, it is almost time." his second in command noted
" I know, let us take position"
A few minutes later, the clock tower in Sultanate Square rang its bells to announce 18.00 hours
"Now"
Almost as one, 216 artillery pieces, split between the central city, and the outskirts, unleashed a volley that shook the earth, bombarding some of the worst parts of the city, giving it the only attention from the government it had recieved in years. Tanks and men added their weight to the attack, declaring war on the city itself. Ships both in and out of the harbor unleashed their weapons on the city. Helicopters launched missiles into crowded buildings, and people rushed out into the street, only to see tanks barrelling down towards them, guns blazing.
As the Sultan looked out a window and saw the flames and blasts exploding throughout the city, he knew they would taste victory.

Cottish Consulate, Banjul

The soldiers at the Consulate, now numbering 78 able men, had fired of approx. 70 000 rounds into mobs trying to tear down the consulate gates. The snipers had been busy all day, since the crowds outside the gates grew by the minute. It was like the whole of Banjul was out there. The Cots couldn't escape, because the rebels had showed that they had in their posession several RPG-7Vs by shooting down a Merlin that had been resupplying them, killing 4 Cots. The resupply via Merlins continued, only now with gunship support (AH-6, RAH-66). There were hopes among the men that the situation would be resolved soon.

Outside the Royal Palace of the High Sultan, Manama, Bahrain-+-+-+-+-+-+-
Upon hearing about the battle in Gambia, crowds had gathered for a variety of reasons, some were peace protestors (http://www.peacechicago.org/images/chicagoprotest4.jpg), but most of them (http://images.usatoday.com/news/_photos/2003/04/iraq/10-diplomacy.jpg) were there to support the fight to protect the country's unity. Tensions rose between the peace protesters and the suporters, and as crowds grew, the Sultan called out special riot controllers (http://popups.ctv.ca/content/publish/popups/target_iraq/protests/images/toronto_riot_police.jpg). This was the last straw for the peace protesters. They tried to beat their way through supporters, trying to get to the statue of the Sultan in the center, they did not seem to realize their hypocrisy, or the fact that they were shoving through crowds of praying individuals, many of them women and children, armed only with candles, prayer books, and signs. After seeing a pregnant woman beaten down and hit with sticks for being in the way of the demonstrators, the supporters of the war turned violent, fighting back alongside the riot controllers. The protesters fled, scared of retribution for their crimes. The leader of the protestors, Henry McCandless, a native Nebraskan was taken into custody, arrested for defying the High Sultan, murder of an innocent, harming a pregnant woman, and killing a child, as well as the murders of 3 other protesters and a riot policeman. After interrogation, he was put to death by impalement, his head placed in public as a warning to others. Several other protesters met similar ends. in the end there was a total of
1 Impalement
2 Hangings
13 Decapitations
4 deaths by firing squad
10 killed in the protest
23 imprisoned for life (and that means until you die, not just a few years like in the US)
56 imprisoned for 20+years
(ooc-kinda shows my political point of view, more than kinda actually)

We thank you for your assistance, but we must insist that your troops follow behind the Cottish troops and secure the areas cleared by the Cots. We also ask that you take care of any prisoners taken. They are after all Elephanti citizens.

Banjul city gates 01.00 AM

The first Cottish units into Banjul was the Brigade reconnosance company, consisting of seven M1114 HMMWVs and 28 Infantry. They immediately met resistance, but that consisted only of lightly armed (pistols) militia and were quickly eliminated. Reporting the first street clear, the rest of the Brigade began to roll in.

Soon, ten blocks were under Cottish control. The people ran like hell when they saw the massive Abrams tanks roll thru the streets. Someone tried to throw some molotovs at the tanks, but missed the tanks.

Three Cottish soldiers were hit by the flames, and were quickly burned. The throwers were apprehended and 'interrogated' before they were handed over to the Elephanti soldiers behind the Cots. The injured soldiers were airlifted back to Foxtrot, and the Brigade moved on.

02.41 AM

They had moved only a few blocks down the street to where they could see the Kotu Powerstation when they were met with heavy resistance. RPGs, light machine guns, rifles. All of that was used on the Cots. They disabled two Bradleys, killing 9 Cots and injuring 7. The remaining Cots in the 3rd Battalion got defensive positions and returned fire.

The battle for the Kotu Powerstation had just begun.

The warfare was spreading throughout the city, like the fires that had been spreading since the Ibn-Iliz was hit. Many tried to escape the fighting, only to find their way blocked by flames, and many others experienced the opposite. Despite making small paths through the oil, the Navy would not let ships out of the harbor, and began destroying those that tried to leave the city. They had just recieved word that the new battleships from Layarteb, as well as the battlegroup the Sultan had sent, were closing in on them, and then the rebels would encounter a hellstorm like none other, even the current bombardment.

Captian -What have we shot down so far
Mate -Total, or just us
Captian -Both
Mate-We've stopped three passenger boats, 4 sailboats, and a yacht, total is 18 passenger vessels, 7 of them destroyed, 13 sailboats, 9 destroyed, one yacht, and 2 prop planes, both destroyed, may I ask why, sir?
Captian -The governor wants a report for the arriving fleet

The Reseve Divisions were throwing half of their men at the city, and yet were facing tough opposition, fighting a battle over each building. Elite elements were trying to break through the fortifications defending Omaha Street, in order to remove the rebel leaders in the Golden Elephant strip club, the head of the rebel operations. However, the more pressure they applied to the defenses, the more men rushed to defend it.

The advance had also stalled in the Lower City, where people stood in the way of the advancing vehicles, leaving them with nowhere to move in the crowded streets. One tank commander, frustrated by the mobs, plowed through a crowed street, killing and injuring dozens.

Gambian Command, currently the Governor's Crisis Room, had no idea about most of this. Communications were spotty, but it looked like they were making progress. However, problems began to arise. Banjul Airfield reported that they had to cut down their missions by 50% in order to have enough fuel to last for the next few days. Some Hummvees and other vehicles had ran out of gas, and now were vulnerable in the streets.
"At least the fleet will bring fuel," the Governor said, "Why couldn't they have hit a naval ship or something, why the one oil tanker in? port?"
"Sir, I dont think the fleet will bring enough" an advisor said
"What do yuo mean?"
"Well, sir, the ships will need most of it in order to clear the harbor, as well as when they get to start bombardment, maybe 10% can go to vehicles, and 7.5% to our planes, they have some too."
"Dammit, we wont have enough to take the city, order the divsions to fall back to what they can protect, we can't proceed until the fleet gets here, when will that be?"
"Close to midnight"

Outside of Banjul Harbor, 11:43 PM
The Elephanti fleet, reinforced by 4 Iowa Class Battleships bought by Layerteb, was assembled outside of the harbor, along with what the Navy could get out of the harbor. Several LCAC's bolstered their ranks, only the Fatoto, damaged in the pening conflict, was not present. From the command in the Hiraz e-Mumman (the High Sultan's son, by the way), the plan was formed, and ready for implementation. Men were boarding the landers, guns were ready to open fire, and ships were taking position.

The five battleships opened fire as one, raining death on the city, accopanied by some other ships. Under the cover of their fire, a small fleet of LCAC's were closing in on the beach, adding another front to the battle. Now the people of the city, already suffering from a constant bombardment for the last 32 hours, saw that they were dead.

Inside the Golden Elephant, however, the mood was not so dismal. They had realized that they could not win, but had a revalation

They could not have the city, but if they could pull it off, neither could the government.

Mbao sent his best men to his hidden oil reserves deep inside of the Lower City. One by one, long hoses were attached to the tanks, the ends lying in the street. The leader of the team waited, rather imapatiently, for his team to attach the hoses, the turned all of the pumps on, spilling oil itno the streets, the sewers, and shops.
[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]
The dark spill spread, thousands of barrels of oil coating the empty streets and seeping under doorways.

As the Iowas continued their bombardment, the Indian reserves were landing on the beaches, and had begun their battle for the city, encountering heavy resistance as the rebels fought to the death, knowing they were surrounded, outgunned, and outnumbered. The oil spilling through the Lower City had not yet been encountered by the Elephantis, and they belived that victory was theirs. The Gambian Reservists were throwing everything they could at Omaha Street, and the rebel line was close to falling. Far away, at the opposite end of the street, a column of Indian tanks appeared, unleashing a hail of fire on the rebel stronghold. As commandos rushed inside, Boss Ishpoo and his personal guard were waiting, armed with ancient weaponry, spears, halberds, tridents, all were equally deadly to the team of elite warriors. Vicious hand to hand fighting, resembling the battles of one thousand years past more than anything modern, took a terrible toll on the soldiers, who swarmed in, only to be beaten back again and again.

Meanwhile, Mbao and Varitta escaped out of a back exit, running down alleyways and sidestreets, until they saw the river of oil pouring down the street. As they waited, waiting for an opportune time to light it, killing the most soldiers, the mighty guns of the battleships roared. A massive shell landed just meters from the leaders who had caused so much pain to the city, ending their lives instantly. Many other lives were destroyed in the same instant, flames spreading throughout the Lower City, apartments, stores, theaters, all put to flame in a matter of seconds. That oil that leaked into the sewers burned too, causing flames to spout from grates, as if spewed from hell. Burning air vented from others, burning and injuring many.

Upon seeing the conflagaration destroy their homes, their leaders, and their comrades, many rebels laid down their arms. The army cut them down mercilessly, before trying to tend to the flames.

Many soldiers abandoned any idea of fighting, preferring instead to try and save what they could of the city. Much of the Lower City had its water cut off several days before, so those few hydrants that were there could not be used. People fought the flames with whatever they could, with garden hoses and bucket brigades, fire trucks, wet rags, as people desperately fought this new enemy. Artillery and tanks began attacking buildings near the fire, demolishing them in order to prevent the fire from spreading.

However, they could not operate fast enough, and as the sun came up, the wind began to blow, spreading fire even faster. Fire consumed much of the city that had just been reclaimed by Indians and Gambians, even penatrating farther behind Elephanti lines than the rebels ever had.

Unburned oil in the harbor, left from the first day of fighting, caught fire, and the fire used it to cross the river, burning the homes of rich and poor indiscriminitaley, all suffering and dying as equals.

Banjul, Gambia

The soldiers guarding the Cottish consulate in Banjul saw the impacts of the battleships and the crowds running away. This was it. The chance they had been waiting for. The commanding of the consulate, Major Bern, started to bark out orders.

The two giant CH-53 Super Stallions started to warm up their engines, and the 24 civilians that worked in the embassy filed inside the choppers along with the surviving 61 soldiers after locking down the embassy basement and torching the building. Within minutes, the helicopters took off and was quickly joined by four RAH-66s and two AH-6Js.

The vehicles of the original convoy crashed out the gate, moving people down as they made a run for it. They meet up with the 19th Brigade at the Kotu powerstation. Together, they would preform an organised retreat out of the city under the cover of the AH-130 Spectre and the 12 A-10s.

Kotu powerstation

The vehicles and men of the Cottish rescue force started to retreat, and before the rebels could follow, they got 48 500 pound bombs in their heads, effectivly killing most of them. The remaining rebels alive lost their will to fight, and ran off. The Cots let them run. It wasn't worth getting accused of genocide.

Foxtrot Military Installation

After three hours, the first troops of the 19th Brigade made it thru the front gates. They were home, but not without losses. A total of 36 Cottish soldiers had lost their lives in the rescue, and their bodies would be sent home on the first plane available.

Waters off Banjul

The Cottish fleet detected a small cluster of warships on hte horizon, and the carrier 'Syracuse' immediately sent four F-35s to check. The planes carried four 'Lance' SSMs each. Enough to sink the ships.

Flying 30 feet above the waves, the planes quickly saw that the fleet consisted of at least one Ticonderoga class cruiser, a damaged Perry and several other ships. After some intensive use of the radio, the pilots found out that the ships didn't belong to the Elephanti fleet, and thus were potential hostiles.

Oscar 1 (F-35): Unidentified vessel, this is Cottish Navy flight Oscar, Oscar lead speaking. Identify yourself or be fired upon. You are in a hot combat zone, repeat hot combat zone. You have five seconds to comly.

The F-35s prepared their 'Lance' missiles for launch.

Just over one hundred miles off the west coast of Africa the First Atlantic Fleet was heading home for Hibernian Brazil after escorting a yacht carrying the new governor of Zambia around the Cape of Good Hope. The good governor had an irrational fear of flying, you see. The massive machines composed steel and endowed with incredible firepower seemed oddly silent as they cut through the waves. But, aboard the Hound of Culann, the largest battleship in any fleet in the trinity, radio transmissions were interecepted from the East. Gambia was burning. A message was sent ahead to Rio De Janiero and the ships set a new course, heading East for the Coast of Africa.

In Rio De Janiero, General Seamus Fitzgerald the Military-Governor of the city and the effective ruler of all Hibernian Lands in Earth II placed the phone down. Indeed, he did wish to help Elephantum in their hour of need, but if they did pull out of the city he would not pass up the oppurtunity for a Port on the Western Coast of Africa, even if it meant reducing the city to rubble. Lord knows we have enough people to repopulate it. He was happy.

The First Atlantic Fleet consists of 26 ships:
5 Balor Class Carriers
6 Moytura Class Battleships + The Hound of Culann (it can't really be grouped with the others)
8 Lugh Class Cruisers
4 Sadb Frigates
and 2 supply ships

Inside the Royal Palace of Gambia, guards and staff were rushing around with boxes and paperwork, taking paintings off walls, and removing artwork from the walls. Military doctors and other staff members were busy outfitting the palace with medical beds, filling rooms with medical supplies, and preparing for its new role as a hospital.

Operation Zookeeper was underway. LCACs and small ships confiscated by the government were bringing the government and its materials to the fleet. Military planes were removing the last of the tourists, and special crews were directing the fires away from the buildings that were still standing. Others were evicting citizens, telling them which refugee camps they should report to. From the command post of the Hiraz, currently the center of government, all was going fine.

Just think, the captain thought, soon we will have the city under full military rule, and then we can start to rebuild.

One of the naval staff ran up to him. "Sir, we have picked up a small fleet incoming, the Cots found it first, they say its the pirates again."

"Have they targeted them?"

"They've launched a few missiles, they cant do enough to stop them though"

"Dispatch Group C to take care of them."

Minuites later, he recieved another report.

"We've picked up a loarge formation of ships coming in, sir"

"Any ID?"

"We're not sure, but we think its a Gnoclepian battle group"

"Send them a message, ask them what they want, notify me as soon as they respond"

"Yessir"

Group C, dispatched to fight the pirates, found the tattered ships from the first battle, further damaged by the Cots. However, now they had no leader, and upon seeing the smoke from Banjul, no cause. It seemed that many had already given up, halfheartedly fighting, not worried about their impending doom. However, when torpedoes began to strike, some changed their minds. Their resitance made it worse for them, as those who jumped off of sinking ships were attacked with machine guns, and oil and blood mixed with the ocean.

In an hour, the pirates had been finished off, in exchange for damage to most of the ships.

The First Atlantic Fleet had brought itself within sight of the African Coast. In the distance they could see the smoke rising from the burning city. It obscured the horizon and blocked out the vast majority of the eastern sky giving the area a sense of unending darkness. The sailors stared in awe at the sheer scope of the fire. It seemed the whole city was engulfed. But their attention was soon drawn elsewhere. Several hundred yards in front of them a naval battle was taking place. They changed course.

Waters outside Banjul

The radar operators on the ICS Paul, one of the cruisers in the Cottish fleet, spotted the foreign ships approaching them, and alerted the commander of the battlegroup, an old grumpy two-star admiral on the flagship, a Ynoga class light aircraft carrier. He ordered the ships not engaging the pirates to alter course towards the foreigners. He also ordered eight F-35s to provide aircover. The pirates were dead anyway.

Cottish flagship: This is ICS 'Syracuse', you have entered a combat zone. Recommend that you alter course to avoid loose missiles. If you do not alter course, we will consider your approach a hostile act and act accordingly. This is your first and final warning. Repeat, this is ICS 'Syracuse', you have entered a combat zone. Recommend that you....

The ships, 1 Ynoga class light aircraft carrier, 2 Black Sea class guided missile cruisers, 3 Abyss class destroyers and 3 Seeker class frigates altered course towards the ships. In addition two Virginia class subs lurked below the waves on ultra quiet. No-one could hear that they were there, unless they pounded the sea with active sonar. If they tried that, they would let their presence be known to the entire West-African coast. If the foreigners turned out to be hostile, they would get a nasty surprise...

The 'Syracuse' started to launch planes, and prepared for a bitter fight against a superior foe when the radio transmission from the Gnoolocopelepians came thru.

The admiral himself replied: We are here in aid of Cottish citizens in Banjul. If you are here to assist Elephantum, we are friends. Prove it by withdrawing your planes, and I shall withdraw our planes.

Meanwhile the Paul and the Dave, the two cruisers in the fleet, prepared their arsenals of 'Lance' and 'Halbeard' missiles. A total of 32 'Lance' SSMs and 12 'Halbeard' anti-battleship missiles on each ship were ready for launch against the potential enemy.

The 'Syracuse' had launched her 10 F-35s and stood by. Now, all they could do was wait for the reply.

ooc: According to Layartebs specs for the Ynoga class, it can carry 8 STOVL fighters. I use the F-35 VTOL fighter, and carry 10 of them due to smaller size. Also, I use missiles produced under rights from Praetonia. The 'Lance' is similar to the Harpoon, and the 'Halbeard' is similar to the anti-ship version of the Tomahawk.

The transmission came in, effectively easing an extremely tense situation. The fleet slowed to a crawl and the alarms aboard the carriers were silenced. The guns were brought down to their resting positions. Aboard the Hound of Culann, Admiral Naiose Usnach was baffled. If these Cottish ships weren't responsible for the damage done here then who was? There didn't appear to be any other ships in the vicinity and if there were they weren't showing up on the radar. He picked up the radio.

The admiral got the message from the Hiberian Navy, and wondered which of the incidents he ment. The pirates, or the Elephanti shelling of Banjul. He decided to explain both incidents.

The current situation is that Cottish and Elephanti forces have destroyed a pirate fleet that harrassed us. Also, the city of Banjul is rioting against their Elephanti masters, and the Elephanti are quelling the riots as we speak. Quelling them Elephanti style, using a few battleships and such. A Cottish brigade stationed in the Cottish naval base outside Banjul has been inside the city to rescue Cottish civilians trapped in the consulate, but they have exited the city already. Everything is under control.

We would like to thank the Cots for their support of our government in putting down the recent coup attempt. The rebels are being driven back, and your support was instrumental in defeating them. The reconstruction efforts, particularily in and around Banjul, is about to begin. The city is to be redistricted, and is currently being emptied. We would like to offer all Cottish troops that were in Banjul to help, and the next of kin of those who died in the conflict, a plot of land, enough for a house or a house/store that they can retire to after their service is done. The land would be in or near the new Grand Market, replacing the Omaha Street theaters, also the first area of the city to be cleared.

Soldiers were busy demolishing buildings, evicting citizens, and going about other buisness in the ruined city. The rebels had been defeated, driven into hiding or out of the country. Some of the Indian troops and ships would return home soon.

On a hill near the city, Gambians were digging graves for all the civilian bodies. Elephanti troops who had fallen would be returned to their families, or cremated and placed in the Great Mausoleum in Bahrain Province.

Down in the city, reconstruction was beginning even as demolition was beginning. Replacing the old theaters of Omaha St. would be a marketplace, fittingly renamed Market Lane. Some scavengers had already begun to claim spaces, selling odds and ends they found strewn across the city. Expensive diningware, furniture, even some small boats were being sold at incredibly low prices. Soldiers paid en masse for these slightly used relics, especially those retiring here. Some had already recieved lots to build on, and they started to build houses while they weren't on duty. Beat-up cars, repaired, usually poorly, drove the streets. Like a pheonix rising from the ashes, Banjul would rebuild, slowly.

OOC-if there are no objections, I think its pretty much wrapped up
