Beta Aurigae VII
17-01-2005, 20:30
Klev Kisharn (formerly known as Stanley Molotov II) looked out over the plains to the approaching sunrise, today would be a day to remember. He smiled to himself as he thought about what would happen mere hours from this moment. It had taken almost 10 years between his discovery that his roots traced back to the List'ten society and his rise to the leadership position in both Beta Aurigae's military and the List'ten special forces (currently employed by the government of Beta Aurigae), but now the plan could finally commence. His father had been consistently making the wrong choices in the government and it was the consensus among the majority of the people and among almost the entire military down to the newest recruit that something had to be changed. The plan had been in motion for the longest time plotting the overthrow of the government but ever since the last incursion into Aurigean territory by rebels from the north, in which over 75 people were killed while the government did nothing, the final preparations were completed. Today would be the day of change.
"Minstryll Kisharn," came a voice from behind him.
"Yes," Klev replied.
"The final preparations have been completed we move on your order."
"Thank you, Initiate. I will make my final address in a moment."
Klev remained on the plains for a few more minutes before turning his back to the sun and moving towards the List'ten barracks to address his small strike squad. They snapped to attention upon seeing him approach. He stood before them, his midnight blue and blood red robes flowing in the slight morning breeze, staring at each one in turn before beginning to speak:
"My friends, my father has made his final blunder as leader of our great nation it is now time for us to take appropriate action. It is our sacred duty to defend Beta Aurigae VII from harm. This nation was forged from the blood of our ancestors who served on the front lines of the armies that finally conquered this land. When the nation was founded the first monarch of Beta Aurigae VII, Grig Kobechev, gave the List'ten the task of holding the nation together through troublesome times by granting us permission to "remove" the current leader if we saw fit. This ancient pact made between the List'ten and Kobechev seems to have been forgotten by the current administration. My father needs to be "removed" immediately. The future of our nation may depend on it. Today a new sun rises over Beta Aurigae VII and will lead to a new time of prosperity in the land! Let us do our duty."
When he was finished they all moved back into the barracks and armed themselves for the conflict ahead. Each List’ten would usually be equipped with the standard OCIW Assault Rifle for long range combat however, for this mission they were equipped with a silenced H&K MP5-RAS Submachine Gun. For the short-range combat, which they were renowned for, they carried throwing knives, a 12-inch combat blade, and a Katana sheathed on their back.
When all the men were equipped they moved to the Pegasus helicopter waiting for them, and upon boarding began the 20-minute flight to an area four blocks from the governmental mansion.
20 minutes later…
Klev’s squad had disembarked from the helicopter and walked to the shadows of a building almost against the rear gates of the mansion. As they saw from overhead the planned rioting had begun in the front to draw attention away from the real danger. The List’ten had snipers placed in the buildings surrounding the mansion whose job was to take out the rooftop security and perimeter cameras. This would allow the strike squad to enter the mansion unopposed.
Klev produced a radio from within his robes and began to speak, “This is Klev, we are in position you are cleared to fire.”
A chorus of acknowledgements came over the radio and within a few minutes the guards on the roof as well as the cameras were wiped out. Seeing that the task was done Klev motioned his men from the shadows and they moved silently to the walls of the compound and scaled the walls with ease. Once past the wall they reached the doors to the mansion in seconds. Easing the back door open carefully two of Klev’s men moved swiftly into the foyer and silently snuck up behind the secret service men, who were watching the riot with interest out the front windows, and slit their throats. They dragged the bodies to a small alcove off of the main hallway and quickly the rest of the squad moved upstairs leaving the other two downstairs to protect against unwanted suprises. They encountered four more SS men who were disposed of the in same manner as the others. Finally reaching the door to the Governor General’s chambers with the final three members of his squad, the others were spread out at strategic points in the mansion, Klev again drew out his radio and spoke into it:
“We are in position, take out the guards nearest to the Governor General and we will do the rest.”
“Roger,” came the two replies.
There was a sound of breaking glass in the Governor General’s office as the snipers opened up on the guards inside. Taking a deep breath Klev kicked open the doors in time to see two of the remaining four SS inside go sprawling to the floor as they were hit by the doors they had just moved to lock and secure. Klev paid them no mind as two throwing knives appeared in each hand and found their way into the last two men’s throats. Klev’s companions had already disposed of the other two with quick spurts from their MP5’s. The Governor General looked around in shock as Klev and his men advanced upon him.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing,” was all he could manage as he backed up to the front of his desk.
“Fulfilling my duty father, don’t tell me you’ve forgotten,” replied Klev drawing his Katana as he spoke. “It is my duty as leader of the List’ten to secure the nation’s protection, you have become a danger to it and we in turn have become a danger to you.”
“I have kept the nation strong,” protested Stanley as he slowly reached for the button that would call for the other SS men in the mansion.
“You cannot make a nation strong when you are nothing but weak yourself father, and don’t bother with calling for more help,” advised Klev nodding to Stanley’s hand which was almost to the button, “they are all dead. If the nation is as strong as you believe then why do these rebels from the north plague us? Up until a few months ago they wouldn’t dare cross our borders so deep was their fear of our reprisal.”
“They are better equipped than before, perhaps if the List’ten were more wary of the threat--”
“Do not throw your problems on us father. You know full well that we cannot move without permission from the government. This case being the only exception, it was part of our agreement with Kobechev.”
Realizing the futility of this whole conversation and seeing that he would die at the hands of these men, Stanley decided to speed the process along.
“If you are going to kill me at least give me the chance to defend myself against such a fate.”
“Of course father, we List’ten are not without honor.”
Nodding to another of his men a sword was given to Stanley. He accepted it with a resigned sigh and took up a defensive stance. Klev regarded him almost disdainfully for a moment and then he suddenly exploded into motion. One quick slash and a thrust that were parried by Stanley who then drove in on the attack thrusting and slashing with all his skill but Klev turned each attack aside with ease. They began to circle Stanley attacked again one slash then he feinted high and drove a thrust at Klev’s stomach who moved to one side letting his father’s momentum carry him past. Klev’s counter hit Stanley in the leg sending him to his knees. Klev swung the Katana and his father’s head flew free from its shoulders, the battle was over as quickly as it had begun. Klev took out a handkerchief and wiped his sword clean before sheathing it again and walking with his men from the office and back out to the pickup zone with his team still fully intact.
"Minstryll Kisharn," came a voice from behind him.
"Yes," Klev replied.
