World Trade Organisation (earth III)

Notquiteaplace

Notquiteaplace is a nation that has always pursued free trade with all nations. Free trade is the only way to gain maximal gains from trade, and while sometimes it may hurt weak home industries, it strengthens stronger ones, and toughens others up. In the long run it forces specialisation, cooperation and maximises world out put and consumption. In economic terms it allows us to consume outside our own production capabilities.

Trade barriers and barrier wars between nations merely cancel eachother out. Barriers have little long term effect anyway on balances of payments. The only nations hurt are those third parties with weak economies who are caught in the middle.

As a powerful economy that imports much Notquiteaplace would like to start the world trade organisation. We wish to create and encourage free trade between nations, through reciprocal agreements. Lowering barriers between nations in groups with the goal of maximising everyone's wealth and allowing the poorer nations to trade fairly with everyone else.

We would like other nations to sign up, state their level of trade protection, and offer deal with other nations to lower their trade barriers.

Notquiteaplace shall go first. We have a few free trade agreements, however to nations who we dont have them with there is an 8% import tarriff (a large portion of which goes straight into registration of goods). Flat rate, as well as tax on all taxed goods. Weapons traffic is only allowed to government allowed destinations and purchasers. Notquiteaplace imports oil and some minerals. We export food, IT and retail goods as well as (only to nations in which they are legal) marajuana products. (OOC:sp?)

We would offer free trade, barring the weapons trade to any nation that accepts it, provided they reciprocate. Tax on taxed goods would be lowered by the level of tax imposed on them at their home nation, but not to a negative number. Any nation unwilling to trade freely, but willing to lower their trade barrier to a lower level that falls below our own, we will match.

We make no demands of our nations, but will be exerting pressure to lower trade barriers.

Anyone who wishes to sign up, should state their level of trade protection and concessions they are willing to make. As well as any specific nation they definately will or wont do so with. THey should also make offers to any other nations that have posred here.

You may post again if you wish to change your offer, though raising trade protection is strongly discouraged.

Green Sun has an offer similar to this, but instead we offer free shipping with no taxation and no restrictions on what you can trade with our free shipping except drugs or illegally trading people. We'll even ship weapons of mass destruction.

However, Green Sun keeps track of all items shipped and if Green Sun ever needs the materials, anything we might need will be bought from the goverment it is shipping from or will just take it if we're at war with them.

Notquiteaplace would like to offer Green sun free trade in the sense that we will not impose tarrifs if you are to treat us as such. Our shipping needs to earn a living and we feel that taxing goods on sale keeps relative prices equal and competitive for both sides. However we will remove our tarriff for you.

None of our illegal (in your nation) drugs will be shipped to you. Slavery is also illegal in Notquiteaplace.

OOC: Any other takers? Nations wanting to sign up?

The Federal Republic of Vas Pokhoronim holds Slovenia and Northeast Italy in Earth III, which are not exceptionally rich in resources but are heavily industrialized. Supplies of most natural resources are at best sufficient to sustain local industry—finished wood products are exported, while iron, coal, and most metals must be imported to varying degrees. Agricultural exports include wines, sugar, beef, lamb and mutton, leather goods, and hemp, while many staple foodstuffs (particularly cereal grains) are imported in modest quantities. [OoC: NS rates my agricultural sector as much more massive than exists in these RL territories, but Thirdgeek gives me a trade deficit (though only 0.6% of my GDP), and I figure that agricultural and fossil fuel imports for consumption make up the bulk of it.]
Industrial manufactures consist most significantly of armaments, military vehicles, and military aircraft. We have a large automotive manufacturing base, as well, and also well-developed industries in ferrous metallurgy and aluminum products, lead and zinc smelting, electronics (including both military and consumer electronics), electric power equipment, wood products, textiles, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, machine tools, and shipbuilding.
Fine furnishings, jewelry, and ornamental glass are also produced for foreign markets.
The north Adriatic houses massive oil refineries at Trieste (Trst), Monfalcone (Gor Škola), and Port Marghera/Venice (Venica Bolje). For this reason petroleum is a major import for the varied purposes of consumption, refinement, and transshipment.
Industry is universally unionized, but the comparatively low (i.e., state-subsidized) cost of living keeps labor prices reasonable by the standards of a highly trained industrial workforce.
Narcotics are legal, and minimally regulated. Gambling and prostitution are also legal, though more heavily policed. Slavery is inconsistent with our Constitution, and the Sovereign People [OoC: the formal way of referring to our government—a holdover from Communist times] will not trade with any state that traffics in human beings, and we furthermore reserve the right to impose sanctions and embargoes against habitual human-rights violators.
This being said, chronic underemployment is high, the Witzgaller civil war is adversely affecting our trade, and we are willing to offer tax credits and other benefits to foreign companies interested in operating within our borders. The exact arrangements will perforce vary by industry. We are also willing to negotiate trade concessions to petroleum-, natural gas-, coal-, and iron-exporting countries. Furthermore, the National Assembly is prepared to ratify the eight-per cent across-the-board tariff.
The Sovereign People look forward with hope to a future of peace and mutual prosperity in our world.

Notquiteaplace would be willing to lower our tarrif for you if you would lower your to us. Naturally this may be ione case by case basis if necessary, but we have strong mining (especially uranium), gambling and automoblie maufactures. We would perhaps grant you a lower rate of tarrif (or none if you so chose) on your agrigculture if you reciprocate with mining tarrifs if this is too much.

Over time we would like to remove all barriers completely and will do so with any nation that is willing to do the same.

(OOC: Now would be the time for green sun to offer trading concessions to VP, or for anyone else to sign up, come on people it's growing slowly).

OoC: I hate to do this to you, NQAP, but RL has gotten more demanding, and I need to take some time off, so I'm leaving Earth III.
Good luck.

I'd join, but I don't think you'd enjoy the leganized cocaine, marijuana, and various phychedelics (sp?) that one can find here.
