At 1300 hours yesterday afternoon, Archon-Prince Vlad Pryde, 48, and father of five, was shot dead from an assasin's bullet during a Military Parade Review in The Hub Military District of Glengarry.
The parade, which topped over 3.7 million people, started at 0900 that morning, and lasted until the time of Pryde's death; 1347 p.m. The Parade consisted of units from the 101st AMS Airforce Division, 44th Infantry of Scottsdale, and The Rugue Highlanders BattleMech Regiment.
Shortly before 1303, the Late Archon-Prince was riding in his stretch Hover-Limosine, complete in full military dress attire, and sat along side his wife, Sierra Pryde, and eldest son, Daniel Pryde, waving to an adoring crowd of onlookers, when suddenly, the Prince clutched his chest and slumped forward. As his shocked wife and son reached out for him in suprise, another bullet struck his body from behind (slightly above where the first bullet struck), and exited his chest. The Prince slumped to the side into the lap of his frantic wife. She started to scream.
"It was the most unbelievable thing I have ever seen in my life," says Jane Thompson, of Livermoor Pass, Glengarry, who traveled 230 miles to see her two sons on display in the parade. She was in the front row of the parade as the Prince's motorcade passed through. "I am still in shock....absolute shock."
Another witness, John Holmstead, says, "it looked as though the shots came somewhere from behind the Prince, judging by the way he initially slumped forward. I could hardly believe what I was seeing. I'm horrified."
The Prince's motorcade made a haste beeline for the nearest medical facility, St. Josephs Emanuel Hospital, where the Prince was later pronounced dead at 1347. Doctors held a press conference shortly afterwards, thanking the hospital staff for thier quick work and sending thier apologies and condolences to the rest of the world, regarding the loss of thier beloved leader.
A bloodstained Sierra Pryde left the hospital under very tight and heavy security, followed by her son, Daniel. Both were beside themselves in grief, and were hastly sped away from the media and taken to an undisclosed location; presumably to join her other children, who were immediately taken out of class at thier private boarding school, and kept under close guard for the remainder of the day.
There was suprisingly little panic in the crowd after the motorcade sped off in the direction of the hospital, many people screamed and cried, but not many people immediately left. Shortly after the motorcade was gone from site, the parade started back up again, but the festive mood was definitely gone. Then, at 1415 hours, the flags at the Govenor's Mansion, which the parade passed by, were lowered to Half-Mass, and the Govenor, Marshall George von Hiemler, announced the Prince's death to the masses.
"Ladies and Gentleman...it is with the deepest sympathies to all of you, that I have the unpleasant task of informing you all, that Archon-Prince Vlad Pryde was pronounced dead earlier this afternoon; struck down by an assasin's bullet." The Govenor wiped tears from his eyes and cleared his throat after announcing the passing of his long time friend and Lord.
A massive investigation was underway, not but half an hour after the Prince was shot. Five square blocks of buildings were put under lock down by the local police and authorities, and a door-to-door search of those apartments and businesses was underway, and continued into the evening.
"As far as we can tell, the Assassin used a .308 caliber rifle at fairly close range," said Captain Randy Anderson of the Glengarry Police Department. "We don't have a suspect discription, but we have many good leads on who might have done it." He also stated, that the Prince usually wore a bullet-proof vest that could stop most anything. He left it at the palace that morning, claiming that the sweltering heat in Glengarry, which topped 92 degrees ferenhiet, would be a bother. It was a decision that costed him his life.
Anderson offered no further comments, siting security protocals.

For 28 years, he worked long and hard to earn back his peoples respect, integrity, and love. Among his most notable accomplishments, was bringing the Armed Military States out of the worst Debt in over 120 years; a debt which lasted nearly 35 years under the rule of his father, Victor Davion Pryde. During The Great Debt, the AMS lost nearly 45 million people to poverty, and much property was reduced to bombed-out shells and piles of scrap metal. Once Victor passed away of a heart attack at the age of 51, Vlad inherited the Throne, and worked feverishly to bring the AMS back up to the Thriving Empire that it once was. He accomplished just that; rearrainging the entire military structure, and ensuring children's futures by establishing better funding for schools and Child-Resource Initiatives.
Vlad leaves behind his Wife, Sierra (46), three daughters: Coleen (12), Senna (14), Kathrine (15); and his two sons: Jason (13), and Daniel (17). Daniel is expected to inherit the throne in one week's time; after his father's service.
Candle-light vigils are expected tonight, drawing tens of millions of people worldwide, as everyone here mourns the loss of thier beloved and kind Prince. A man with a huge heart, and a love for his people that, even in death, still gives warmth to all who he served.
