This is one of the best air vehicles I have ever seen on NS (but I personally like the old design better) but are these supposed to be real zeppelins (as in lighter than air gas filled dirigibles) or some kind of levitating ship?

This is one of the best air vehicles I have ever seen on NS (but I personally like the old design better) but are these supposed to be real zeppelins (as in lighter than air gas filled dirigibles) or some kind of levitating ship?As I am post-modern (<2020), this is a LTA craft. I did all the calculations... this thing'll be huge, with a gross lift capacity of 4-5,000,000lbf. It's not as armored as you might think... a thin Liquidmetal plating, an aluminum frame, Lots of kevlar, and some thicker armor on the underside. These are strictly non-combat support aircraft... refuellers, transports, command centers, etc.

Hull: Balloons and Balonettes encased in an Aluminum frame, with a Kevlar envelope and an 1/8" LiquidMetal light armor skin. Armor is up to 2" thick in key areas on the underside.

Generic: You may place orders for the Sky Base now, in this thread. But I'm afraid the sky cleaner one is not available.

Maldaathi: If we were to give it combat-worthy armor, it would not have enough lift left to carry anything... it'd be merely a command base... not worth it.

KK. How much? And CAN i have a armored one. For a mobile command unit. More missiles doesnt have to lift anything.

Despite earlier experimentation with LTA vehicles in the past for C&C roles we found them unsatisfactory for various reasons, however in the light of this vessels availbility assessments are being reconsidered.

As such an order of six RT-3307 "Sky Base" vehicles is now being placed, appropriate training will also be required as well as a continuing contract to supply misc. products.

All orders for sky bases confirmed, and are now in production. They should all arrive within 2 NS years. Orders should come much faster as demand increases.

the US built two of these in the 20s? 30s? the USS Arkon was one.
the arkon had 4 but could carry 5 biplanes with a complex swing mechanism for hte 5th aircraft.

technology was pretty new then and both aircraft crashed at low altituted into the sea I believe.

my knowledge on lifting gasses is pretty low.

why not use a mixture of hot air and helium in duel layer baloons. given your propulsion is atomic a by product could be running the air through the vents to heat it up providing the lifting agent?

also I reckon drag from the baloons would make speed slow, unless the frame was completely rigid?

looks like a fabulous concept and an exciting design.

I don't think it has to be future tech. except for the propulsion mechanism.

as for armour, modern aircraft carriers are pretty thinned skinned dependant on their layered defence mechanisms to protect them.

as for attacking them.

if they are segmented bags, with chemical seals, and sectioned compartments bullets and similar projectiles can pretty much be repaired easily and would do limited damage (pass straight through).

missiles might tear a gaping hole and you'd lose elevation, however if you have repplacement 'sacs' or bladders, you could inflate them for a slow speed escape, alternatively you could jetison the non manned areas and parachute the command section.

you'd seriously have to depend on your awacs, ciws, and sea sparrosws, and ECM (or similar) to take out incoming missiles, or smash anything coming remotely in range.

would be really useful to tether, with an oil pump and use asa floating refule station.

Try hot Helium :P we vent heat from the jets in some areas to warm up the helium and give more lift.

And as far as surviving an attack? Again, and again, these are non-combat. You do NOT want to enter combat with these... but if you do, It's got Computer-controlled Anti-air guns, hundreds of missiles, and 10 500kW Defense Lasers.... which I forgot to add to the armament, but I have no thrown back in :) I kinda copied the armament from the old Sky base... kinda forgot

Plus, this thing is stuffed with sensors and ECM and ELINT.
