The Cottish army have started a total refitting of its XM-8 family of weapons. The weapons, the XM-8A1; XM-8A2 PWD; XM-8A3 S.A.W., will be refitted to accept the Remington 6.8x43mm instead of the old 5.56x45mm round.

The refit is in progress, and completion of the refit is expected within ten months. The 6.8 round will be far superior to the 5.56, which showed its lacking in the defence of Sicily. Military officials believe that the new round will "kill the living daylights out of their skulls".
Using a 16.5 inch barrel, it is expected for the 6.8mm round, weighing 115 grams in comparison to the 5.56s 62 grams, to reach speeds of up to 2650 fps.
