OOC: Consideration for new energy source (futuretech)

While pondering a quite interesting book called "The Number of the Beast", where a group of travelers visits various dimensions (6^6^6 of them, total :P), by Heinlin as I recall, I found an intersting idea.
One universe the group encounters consists entirly of a single spherical inside-out planet.
So, assuming that the end of one side of the (A) universe is the start of the other, what if some nation were to find/create a mini-universe a few feet/miles/whatever in diameter, totaly devoid of any sort of matter, then place a bit of matter in it, and set it off in one direction. Since there would be no resistance the object would never slow down.
Im a bit rusty on my physics and power generation, but if this object were magnetic and the right shape, it could be passed through a set of magnets, generating electricity and accelerating the first magnet further.
The energy from this could be siphoned off into our regular Universe and used, cheap, clean, electricity.

I say again though, Im not good at this sort of thing, its just random inspiration and I think it sounds cool :P
If it meets the standards of NS' amature Quantum Physisicts, then I figure I can start IC development and give a few credits, plus free energy :)

The magnetic field of the object would generate electric current in the coil which would in turn create a magnetic field that would slow down and eventually stop the object. Interesting idea though.

You're talking about a big bang engine. I designed one of those for a scifi story. If you wish the details, let me know and I'll post.

Interesting idea...
I had a somwhat similar idea a few years ago, long before I ever knew about NS. At the time, my friends thought it was pretty cool.

However, recently, when I tried to bring up this idea to them again for application in NS, they ridiculed me, and labeled it a godmod.

So basically, if you do go through with it, be sure to have positive proof to back it up.

Yes, but if we got it going to near-lightspeed (Maybe more, if we can wrange the Universes laws to be a sort of hyperspace thing) it would take quite a long time to stop, and generate a goodly amount of energy while doing so...

The general idea behind most FT nations is that proof isnt needed for everything, and since the idea is that this is free energy and it would be shared, since attempting to protect this sort of thing would be quite hard...

Ill make an IC topic, we shall see what we shall see, eh?

totaly devoid of any sort of matter

Unfortunately the magnets themselves woould be matter.

But you still could create a "flawed" version, because it does sound interesting.

I meant native matter, IE: Dust, which would slow things down.

Ah but the faster it goes the more current it prodices and the more opposing force there is. Free energy is impossible, lousy thermodynamics eh.

Which is why we have a self-charing electromagnet to keep the speed up, I suppose something could be rigged up so that it turns on and off at the correct times, maintaining a constant speed of whatever...

Which would likely take more energy than the device produces, making it a wasteful, if interesting, experiment. But I can't stop you.

Stop screwing with my dream, you bastard :P
(Kidding, dont take anything I say seriously :))
Ill think of something...

lol, nice idea though DGNT, i guess we'll all have to stick with antimatter and fusion for the time being, although i find that my plasma generators work efficiently for me :)
