Ever since the reign of Portugal's staunchly anticommunist prime minister Dr. António de Oliveira Salazar came to an end, Portugal's political climate was turbulent and unstable. The nation already had its hands full battling Marxist-Leninist terrorists and insurgents in their overseas colonies in Africa. Soviet-backed communists embarked on genocidal sprees in the heartland of Angola, leaving thousands of corpses in their wake. Women had their breasts cut off, people were cut in half lengthways in sawmills while still alive, others were decapitated (yes, this happened IRL). Chaos was pervasive, and the tide was turning in the communists' favor. Finally, the fate of that country was sealed by the left-wing coup in 1974. A year later, a spineless government granted independence to Angola, shoving it into the open and waiting arms of the communists. António Agostinho Neto became 'president'- dictator would be a better word- of Angola. The red tide had swallowed the nation whole, and any hope the nation had of achieving freedom had been completely obliterated- or had it?

We would welcome any and all help in ousting Neto, eradicating Marxism, and bringing UNITA to power to ensure that liberty and free enterprise, rather than collevtivism, prevails in Angola.

President Nixon sat behind the large desk, several advisor in front of him. They'd come to brief him on something important.

"What can I do for you, gentlemen?"

"Mr. President, as you know, there has been a hostile take over by communist forces in Angola."

"Yes, I'm well aware of that. I don't plan on commiting troops, either, we need to focus on rebuilding our military."

"Oh, I totaly agree, but that's not why I'm here." he replied. Nixon looked at him strangely.

"Go on."

"Well, sir, as you are very well aware, the CIA is currently barred from making assasinations due to an executive order. To speak frankly, sir, this guy's an easy target. If we just had a little clearence, we can go in with a small team, take the bastard out, and rid the world of a brutal dictator."

Nixon looked back in astonishment. "Do you have any idea what would happen if the press got wind of this?"

"They don't have to, sir. You can make it a secret order."

He has a point. Damn. Well, I suppose it's time we saved some face....

"Alright, do it. I am hereby withdrawing the executive order barring America from assasinating national leaders, and authorising the termination of António Agostinho Neto. Come on, gentlemen, get moving, I want the bastard dead."

"Yes, Mr. President." the two men responded in unison, standing, and shaking his hand.

(OOC: Nixon was an extremely pro-communist President. It's unlikely he'd help. In fact, if his successor and secretary of state Kissinger hadn't ordered South Africa to withdraw from Angola, Angola would have been liberated.)

(Remember, this is 1975. Nixon resigned in 1974 IRL. [But then again, this isn't IRL.])

40 miles outside of Luanda, Angola (AP)- Today, it has been confirmed that Special Operations Troops from the URoC have been deployed to Angola.

In a stunning operation, the force of 5,000 proceeded to oust the ill-disciplined MPLA troops and establish a beachhead, rallying UNITA troops and leading them in a defense against a MPLA counterstrike.

Not much is known, but it is reported that these forces have gone inland, and have begun to join UNITA troops in fighting the Marxist MPLA.

Placards bearing Chiang Kai-shek's picture were waved, people bowed before flags of China, and hundreds of thousands of people chanted fervidly pro-Chinese declarations. All the while thousands of Angolans, mostly from the Ovimbundu tribe, took up whatever arms they could find and rallied to the side of their Chinese and UNITA liberators. Many were equipped with nothing more than brooms, pots, or pans. However, all were united in their lust for freedom and unrepentant desire to obtain it. The tide was already turning.

Meanwhile, in Nicaragua, President Somoza authorized the deployment of some 3,500 National Guardsmen, and President J.L. ordered the re-location of over 5,000 RB troops in Nicaragua to Angola...

At the beachhead the SPG men had made, Chinese ships began landing, deploying arms to the UNITA forces. Driving inland, escorted by SPG detachments in country, they delivered the promised guns: M16's, M1911A1's, M72 LAW rockets, M79 Grenade Launchers and even the odd M60 Tank.

Things indeed were looking bright.

General Jon Harris looked at the reports that had just come in. Reports, of Angolan genocide, had been forward to his remote station with a single, simple order attached: Do what is necessary to continue situations instability.

At first, General Harris was not sure why his unique army unit had been chosen. He was in command of two battalions that were made up of entirely of Kordoan’s of African and Asian respectively (They are the two largest non-Caucasian ethnic groups in Kordo). They had been designed to operate in area’s were it would not be wise for Kordoan troops to be caught.

He looked at the list of supplies that were sent, which was a combination of uniforms from the various African groups involved, and what appeared to be Chinese uniforms. The appropriate arms, ammunition, and equipment would be arriving shortly. General Harris did not like the general mission profile, especially because it appeared that he would most likely be forced to work with the communist scum in order to carry out his duty. But he was a loyal soldier and so, he began working on the plan. With luck he could have a general plan written, and his men on planes to Africa with in a few days.

The UNITA troops, now resupplied and rearmed by the Chinese, began to move swiftly and violently, attacking numerous MPLA positions in a general offensive.

Using M60 tanks and new weapons, plus the expertise of their SPG allies, they were able to push the MPLA back, causing them grave harm.

Transcript of General Secretary Brezhnev's Speech on National Soviet Radio
Associated Press: July(?) 1975

"Comrades! Today is a glorious day for the Soviet Union and the world! Today another revolution triumphs over the oppressive forces of fascist dogs and their capitalist banner! Today we stand united in equality and freedom with our brothers in Angola! Led by the noble warrior, President António Agostinho Neto, the Angolan people have triumphed over the despicable tyranny of the west."

"To our brothers in Angola, know that the Soviet Union stands behind you completely! Should the fascist pigs of the west attempt to take from you your newfound freedom, they will have to go through us! As a deterrent to the warmongers who would take what you have earned, the mighty Soviet Union shall send her soldiers to act as your guardians!"

The General Secretary goes on for several more minutes along similar lines.

-----------------

Brezhnev hung up the phone, having offered his personal congratulations to President Neto. He then picked up a second telephone connecting him directly to General Mikhail Kuskov, secretary of the combined Soviet armed forces.

"Mikhail, Comrade."

"Comrade General Secretary."

"I trust you recieved the dispatch and have already taken care of my deployment orders."

"Of course, Comrade Brezhnev. We had seen this coming, and have deployed a force to compliment our 'special' units in Angola. I would like to see the west dare to make a move against Neto with our forces there. Not to mention his KGB protection."

Brezhnev chuckled as he sucked on his cigar.

"Good, Comrade. For Mother Russia."

"For Mother Russia Comrade General Secretary."

-------------------

Having seen the situation in Angola brewing for some time, the USSR had deployed several small units of a newly formed branch of the elite Spetznaz units to ensure the revolution's success, in addition to the undercover KGB agents that had been working against the Portuguese for some time. Thanks to Mother Russia, Neto's forces were equipped with the finest in Soviet equipment, from AK-47s, to T-72s, to Mig Flankers. Now, an additional force of 20,000 Soviet infantrymen were en route to the nation, to make the west think twice before trying anything.

On a small airstrip in Angola, a privately own Gulfstream touched down. Six men in suits step outside, and into a waiting car, which takes them to a hotel. Once there, they find the equipment planted there for them. One of them got a Dragunov SVD. This was the special team ordered to Angola to take out the dictator.

It was an elite force comprising of SEALs and Green Berets, headed by a CIA paramilitary officer. The time for their strike was already determined, it would be during one of Neto's speeches to the masses. It would be simple due to the lax security, but the presence of Spetznaz would certainly complicate things. A carrier battlegroup was also within striking range, so, if nessesary, they could direct an airstrike onto him.

The head of the team was a CIA man named Carlson, a veteran of Vietnam. His trusty second in command, O'niell, was a SEAL, also a Vietnam vet. They were busy in the hotel room, making final arangements for the termination of Neto.

"OK, gents, let's go over this one more time." said Carlson, taking a drag from his cigarette. "Jones and Collins will set up in the church across the street. They'll be the guys taking the shot. Collins will act as the spotter, and Jones'll be the shooter. Collins can also use the laser designater if nessesary. O'niell and Vercetti, you'll be handling the getaway vehicles. As soon as the shot is fired, I want you heading away from the church as fast as possible. Jim and I will handle the crowd. Our job will be to locate the Spetznaz operatives, and if nessesary, take them out. Any questions." he finished, stamping out his cigarette."

"No, sir."

"Alright, good, rest up, guys, cuz' this bastard's goin' down tommorow."

Vladimir Krekov leaned his back against the railing of the balcony of the Presidential Palace that overlooked the city. He removed the cigar from his mouth and exhaled a cloud of smoke into the still, late-afternoon air.

At a table directly before him sat President Neto, flanked by two uniformed soldiers. Scattered across the rest of the elevated patio were other men, most wearing suits. A few had submachine guns slung over their shoulders, but the large majority kept their weapons concealed beneath their jackets.

Krekov took another pull on the cigar and spoke in Russian.

"They're going to try to kill you tomorrow, Comrade President."

Neto's face contorted in an expression of shock, and a bit of disgust.

"What!? Madness! Who?"

"Your enemies in the West. Who else."

"The Portuguese are weak and cowardly! They haven't the balls to attempt an assasination."

"But the CIA does."

"The CIA? What do they have to do with any of this?"

"Everything. Just like the KGB has everything to do with everything."

"How do you know this?"

"Spy's intuition."

Neto muttered something under his breath.

"Damn spooks. Always so vague..."

"Trust me, Comrade President."

"Then what am I supposed to do? If i don't show up to speak, my people will see me as a coward or a haughty aristocrat."

"You will speak tomorrow."

"But you just said they're going to try to kill me!"

"Yes I did."

"Goddamnit! What are you getting at?!"

"It's all under control Comrade Neto."

"What?"

Neto was genuinely lost now. Krekov chuckled and turned to stare out over the balcony.

The next day...

"OK, remember the plan, and we'll all come out in one piece, understood?" said Carlson to the two men destined for the church.

"Yessir." they replied, stepping out of the suspicious white van. One man had a briefcase containing his rifle, while the other would escort him. The KGB or whoever was planning the security no doubt had the church guarded, and probably would have regular radio check in's.

The team had managed to secure the Russian radio frequency, and learned that the check-in's occured every five minutes. They had taken the liberty of recording the voices of the guards over the radioes to make it look as if nothing was wrong.

The two men walked down the street towards the church. Two cuacasian men in trench coats stood outside.

"Those'll be them." whispered one of the Americans to his companion. There were no doubt hostiles in the building across the street, monitering the church, but those could be handled easily enough. The two men stood on the oposite side of the street from the guards, directly beneath a team of KGB agents. All of a sudden, both men drew their pistols, suppresed .22s (you ain't gonna get quieter than that), and squeazed off a single round each, hitting the Russians in their heads. They heard shouting in the room above, and stepped back a little, firing a few rounds through the window, quickly neutralizing the men in that room. They quickly ran across the street, and dragged the corpses inside.

The cheese is in the grader.

Understood. came a voice over the radio. The men in the van activated their radio transmitters, which would automatically "check in" every five minutes, using previously recorded voices of the dead guards. The men then entered the church...

Meanwhile, the men in the crowd began to look for KGB men.
