Chellis designs the DEAD Air-to-Air Missile

The latest company to join Chellis' air market, LGW, has come onto the market with a new ATAM. Designed on a larger MICA body, though the same weight due to advances in miniturization, the missile was designed to complete the mission the MICA couldn't:Destroy stealth aircraft.

The Missile has been made to accomodate the RBE2 Radar of the Rafale, which is the main chellian naval aircraft. The RBE2, which is able to detect stealth aircraft(or any aircraft for that matter) by the use of multiple high/medium/low frequencies pulses at a very high rate, has previously been unable to achieve kills after the fact. IR MICA's were mostly used, and kills were still hard to achieve.

The DEAD(DEtruire l'Avion Discrétion) is not a Fire-and-forget missile. The Rafale must keep the stealth aircraft in its radar, in most cases, to guide the missile. The missile coordinates with the radar information, and heads for holes in the radar field. This is done autonomously with computers, but the plane must be kept in radar. A unique feature is that any number of Rafale's, or other chellian aircraft that can detect the stealth planes, can send coordinates, allowing different planes to take up the task.

AWACS and other systems can also coordinate with these missiles. All re-directioning is authorized by codes, so hijacking isn't very possible. It is possible to be effected by ECM, however, such measures open up the possibility of other methods of attack.

These missiles can make use of Radiation detection as well. AWACs or ground facilities can guide the missiles to stealth targets using this technology. The missile has the same statistics as a normal MICA missile, with the exception of detection. It can be used quite well to take out planes the size of B-2's, or the size of Storm Shadows. It faces its biggest challange from stealth fighters, who can fight back, but this missile makes the playing field level.

Chellis is currently selling production rights, but no missiles themselves. The rights are only for personal use, no selling, and we will only sell to those we feel are right. Prices will vary on the nation, though nations should expect a price of at least 100m Chellian Euro's for the plans(about 200m USD or more).

[OOC: DEAD also refers to Destruction of Enemy Air Defences, used as opposed to SEAD (Suppression...) which simply means a few anti-air radar sites are destroyed. Système d'Appui contre les Vides d'Ondes d'Interception par Radar might work better, though it's probably not proper French.]

The United Kingdom of Isselmere-Nieland is interested in this new missile and would be willing to contract production rights for this design.

OOC: So DEAD is what? An airforce term?

IC:We would be willing to sell it to Illesmere-Nieland for 100m chellian euro's...however, we might consider a rebate if more people start buying them, so that might not be the final price.

[OOC: Yes, it's a relatively new term -- or at least newish from my reckoning -- to account for later anti-radar weapons like the next generation of HARM missiles that will supposedly guarantee the killing of air defence radars by specialist aircraft (like the USAF's Wild Weasels, the German and Italian ECR Tornadoes, etc.) while non-specialist aircraft may engage in SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defences) with similar weapons. Could be that the specialist aircraft will guide SEAD flights onto targets using their more precise sensors and receivers when their own anti-radar missiles have been expended.]

OOC: Same as the MICA.
