OoC: I would like to make this an Invite Only RP if Taiwanese Islands and Praetonia agree, this will sort out any unwanted guests.

http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=383961&page=1&pp=15

For mine and Praetonia's deployments in Belgium, the guise for my deployments are to counter the attacks of Neo Cannen and I've also scaled down the initial amount of troops to just ten divisions(150.000 men with an small amount being left in Belgium for defence) If I'm correct Praetonia doesn't want to kick off the actual invasion right away but has something else in store first.

IC:

Antwerp, Dumpsterdanian Command HQ

Field Marshal Talas sighed and took a cup of steaming hot tea from the plate on his desk. "The surrender hasn't been in effect for two days and already Colonial Command has us into the thick of it again."
The woman leaning against a wall opposite of him peaked at him from under her officers cap. "Be glad that you can serve your country in another way, we didn't get much fighting done against the coalition." She pushed herself away from the wall and walked towards the desk. "Besides, I need to show I am worthy of this." On the front of her cap shone a badge, the Dumpsterdanian flame and double headed eagle and Talas grinned. "Show-off, first woman ever to be promoted to Lord...sorry, Lady Admiral, hell they even threw the entire history books and navy manuals around for you." A knock on the door interrupted them.

"Enter." Talas seated himself behind his desk, chest forward shoulders back as he adjusted his medals. A man wearing an DAF uniform entered and Talas's posture cleared slacked. "Damnit Jack, I thought you where the Praetonian Commander!" Jack turned red and stuttered out his message. "You are needed in Brussels Field Marshal, a transport has been prepared for you and the Lady Admiral Raditz."

"Lazy Praetonian bastards, issue orders to the mechanised infantry and armoured divisions to take the border positions near Turnhout and Hasselt and await further instructions from me." The aide saluted, left and closed the door behind him as Talas buckled his weapons belt on and Raditz put on her black officers coat. "Our destination is not the military airfield of Brussel, where going to land just outside the city to save some time." Raditz shrugged, she couldn’t care less about where they landed she just wanted to meet the people that made her fleet what it was today. A short walk down the stairs and into the courtyard revealed the VTOL transport and its two accompanying JR Interceptor escort fighters to be ready for take-off.
Talas made a courteous bow as he helped Lady Admiral Raditz into the passenger compartment alongside a platoon of DAF regulars already strapped into their seats.

Outskirts of Brussel

The VTOL transport touched down as the platoon of regulars secured the area around it and three Rhino APC's where off-loaded down its ramp. "Area secure!" A lieutenant ran back to the transport and to Talas. "No resistance found sir, the road into the city is clear." The Lady Admiral and Field Marshall boarded the second APC as two squads piled into the remainder, the rest of the troops stayed with the landing site.

Brussels, Praetonian Forces HQ

The three APC's turned onto the plaza in front of the building, Praetonian soldiers quickly held back any wandering civilians as the Field Marshal and the Lady Admiral exited the Rhino and made their way up the stairs towards the guards stationed there. "Field Marshal Talas and Lady Admiral Raditz of the Dumpsterdanian Armed Forces are here, please notify your commander."

OOC: I can go with making this invite only; you and Praetonia can decide

IC: the Defense Intellegence Agency was scrambling to redeem itself after Congress recolved to dismiss it. The opportunity presented itself now. Days earlier an operative in Belgium reported that there are fishy activities going on amongst the Praetonian and Dumpsterdam forces.

Although the operative have asserted that they are directed towards the Scandanavian areas, and the DIA analysts have concluded that it has something to do with the ongoing Witzgallian civil war, Director Rhee decided to present this to the National Security Committee.

"These new recent and developments in Belgium are a.... um.... theat to nation ours," Rhee reported with broken language nervously. "so we must we count this threat to ours."

The Committee members are shocked by the news. "Lucky for us, the 4th Marines are just deployed into the vicinity," one said.

"But our limited forces would struggle against such formidable enemies," another said while knocking his head against the table.

"This exposes further the need to have a larger army," one of the more hawkish members stated. "But now let us deal with this military threat in the military way."

Famed General Ella Kanjcke is dispatched into the Netherland region to assume command of Commonwealth foces there. Known for her seemingly endless energy, Kanjcke's arrival raised moral and boosted confidence in the Netherlands. With her also came the young Nagamasa Sanada, one of the last few members of a line of legendary military figures.

Military enthusiasts across the Commonwealth will be watching young Sanada's first performance closely, but few believed that actual battles would be seen.

OOC: Invite only is good. Anyway, it should be noted that there is no real indication that I want to invade The Netherlands. You might think it a possiblity, but Im currently being attacked by Neo Cannen over Belgium, and Witzgall recently destabalised taking the majority of Belgian borders with it. Anyway...

IC: Two of the guards were on horseback, and did not appear to have been listening to the Dumpsterdam military officers. Two further guards appeared from the marble hallway, and walked out to greet them,

"Welcome Field Marshal, Admiral," one of them said, bowing his head, "if you will follow us. My Field Marshal will see you immediately.

"Ofcourse, lead the way." Talas nodded in a friendly way, he was happy to be among some of his countries allies, even if they did not openly say so.
The Lady Admiral suddenly halted and took a small device from her pocket, its display lit up blue with a hint of red. She sighed. "The battleship Longsword has been attacked by Wolfish naval units in the Atlantic, minor damage inflicted on the Longsword itself and the Wolfish battleship Forsaken has either been sunk or suffered serious damage. Things keep getting better around here."

She motioned for the two guards to continue the walk. "Gentlemen, sorry for the interruption, lets proceed."

The guards led the two Dumpsterdam Officers through a maze of wood-panelled corridors and up several flights of stairs, before arriving at the Office of the Governor of Belgium, the same Field Marshal who had won the war not too long ago. They opened the door, and the Dumpsterdam Officers went in.

"Welcome to Praetonian Belgium," said the Admiral, offering his hand to the Dumpsterdam soldiers. The Governor was sitting behind his desk, and stood up to offer a welcome also.

"We are glad to be here, I am Field Marshal Mark Talas and this here is Lady Admiral Angelica Raditz." Talas made a gesturing motion towards the Lady Admiral as he spoke.

Some exchanging of handshakes later Talas positioned a holo projector on a table which he had requested from the Praetorians before he arrived. A flick of a switch and a fully intergrated holo map of Belgium sprung up, Talas zoomed the display picture towards Antwerp and the Northern provinces.
"As you already know, Dumpsterdanian forces have taken up position near Turnhout and Hasselt with other forces positioned near the French and German borders."

Raditz took over from Talas, her fingers slid over the map as markings of the DRN 8th fleet sprung up in the North sea. "Naval forces have been positioned in the north sea with eleven brigades of Royal Marines, landings will be made at The Hague and other cities such as Amsterdam and Rotterdam."
The pictured shifted to the Dutch/Belgium border. "Four mechanised divisions will push forward from the south towards the Rhine and head towards Katsurato, the mega city east of Emmeloord and relieve our forces that should have landed in Rotterdam, Amsterdam and The Hague."

As Raditz explained the last parts of the standard plan to the Praetorians Talas took out an old book, he threw it on the table; A bridge too far.
"You are all familiar with operation Market Garden gentlemen, I suggest we do it again and make it work. Intell suggest enemy forces will take some time to mobilise while we land forces at Arnhem, Nijmegen and 's Hertogenbosch via glider and para insertion."

Talas continued. "8th armour will advance through the strongpoints created this way with 95th mechanised as the three other mechanised divisions take routes to the centre of the country. Sixth Para will be deployed alongside specially trained units of the 5th infantry division."

"I leave the details of any naval operation up to you and Lady Admiral Raditz, seeing as my expertise lies elsewhere."
Praetonia
13-01-2005, 20:58
"Your plan is certainly... interesting..." the Admiral hesitated. Praetonia has never expressed much interest in airborne troops, "and one that I am prepared to attempt. Praetonia lacks much in the way of airborn forces, so we are pleased that you will be able to provide for that,

"As for other forces, we will of course commit most of what we currently have in Belgium, but as you are no doubt aware Praetonia is in a spot of bother militarily. Our forces are stretched thin, especially our navy. However, we do not believe that the US Navy rip-off the Taiwanese have will be any match for warship designs manufactured in Praefele.

"We have approximately 32,000 fully mechanised troops along with 300 MBTs that we can commit to this operation, and the navy can clear out any shore defences or naval forces the Taiwanese have. Then we can deploy gunboats along the major rivers, including the Rhine."

The Admiral stopped speaking, and the Horseguard Field Marshal began instead, "The Democratic Imperium does not wish to have her reputation stained by this little escapade, and so we will seek to shift the blame over to the Taiwanese. We have several schemes in mind, but timing is vital. If we attack too soon then it looks like we expected it. Leave it too long and they could take the initiative and attack, or take enough time to reinforce their defences to delay our advance long enough to crush the paratroops... you see the dilema? Do you think your forces will be able to achieve this level of precision?"
Dumpsterdam
13-01-2005, 21:10
"That depends on your plan." Talas diverted his eyes to a window for a second. "As long as you keep execute this plan within a week or two, that means from start till the actual invasion I can keep most of my troops on allert and ready to strike at any moment."

"Around twenty-thousand paratroopers will be ready for the operation and we hope that you can spare us any sort of transport aircraft or helicopters so we can deliver them all at once, not in a period of three days."

Raditz smiled at the Praetorian Admiral. "I suggest we strike Den Helder with a balistic attack, this is the primary base of operations for the Taiwanese fleet. However, most of their fleet appears to be missing and they are not at sea, so we must expect their ships to be coming from Vlissingen in Zeeland or maybe somewhere along the coast towards the north."

"Whatever the outcome, I look forward to fighting besides those who made the equipment of the Royal Navy what it is today and will continue to do so in the future."
Praetonia
13-01-2005, 21:17
"Excellent. Well then we are ready to start. However we will tell you the date of attack, and it is not to pass beyond your own command staffs until 12 hours before the actual invasion. Secrecy is vital.

"You may have any aircraft we have lying around... most likely some from the ex-Belgian airforce, so we cant promise top quality... anyway, we are able to arrange a large scale satellite-guided missile strike against the Taiwanese fleet. In fact, it may be an excellent opportunity to test a new weapon we have. It is arriving with the 15th Fleet.

"Now, is there anything else to discuss? Or can we be started?"
Dumpsterdam
13-01-2005, 21:27
"One last thing yes, I with me a disk and codes for our FFI systems. The disk has an intergrated battlefield awareness link system that allows Dumpsterdanian and Praetonian troops to communicate, share information and relay life feeds should any of our troops be carrying the propper equipment. This will be extremely important for our MBT's and mechanised forces."

Talas handed the disk and the PDA with the codes to the governor.
"The FFI codes are to make sure TACCOM recognises your ships as allied, so any nasty surprises will be left out."

Raditz switched off the holo projector and put it back in its case. "Then I suggest we begin the entire operation, good luck and god speed. I shall be at the battleship Seven Provinces."

OoC: Basicly the disk links our troops together and the Friend or Foe Indentifcation codes are to make sure no Praetorian aircraft gets a Javelin SAM shoved up their exhausts.

"Excellent. We also have an integrated battlefield system, which we doubt is compatible. These things never are... we will, of course, inform IT not to allow the computers to target your vehicles."

OOC: No there isn't, otherwise I would have sent my best trained marine divisions (1st, 3rd, 5th) there, along with a few hundred aircrafts and a thousand more ships. Not to mention activating the National Total Defense System.....

IC: Ella Kanjcke had gone to Netherlands under the orders of her nations. She did not believe the DIA reports of a Praetonian invasion, and that particular agency has finally seen its days anyway.

But as she tour the defenses of Netherlands she became appalled at the lack of preparedness Commonwealth forces there have. Almost every 5 minutes young Sanada, who was accompanying her as an aide, would notice a 'serious flaw in our defenses' or a 'unbelievable situation our forces are in'.

Nagamasa Sanada was of a line of military commanders who made their tales through fighting on the defensive side. When Congress sent him along with Kanjcke, no doubt they had hoped that Sanada would inherit his ancestors' skills and fortify the Netherlands.

Upon finishing their tour, Kanjcke submitted a report for Congress, in which she repeatedly asserted that the Commonwealth must strengthen her defenses here at the Netherlands.

Extract from General Kanjcke's Report to Congress on Commonwealth Forces in Netherlands:

During my tour here I've came to realize that the Commonwealth have directed too little resources to the defense of our border regions. It is evident to me that in event of war the Commonwealth will lose these regions to any hostile nation. There is no time to lose. Without security there can be no future for our nation. I must insist that Congress and the people of the Commonwealth face this dilema. Attached is a plan drafted by Major Sanada. I blieve that full implementation of this plan is vital and should be done as soon as possible......

The plan Sanada has compiled calls for the creation of a Homeland Security Force, which will more adqueately defend Taiwanese Islands population centers, and a vast network of defense systems that would allow Commonwealth forces to maintain its longstanding position of 'minimal forces' while maximising its defensive capabilities.

Congress called upon the National Security Agency to exmine the state Netherlands defenses are in. NSA concurred with Kanjcke's report, but recommended a course of action vastly differing from Sanada's. They called for the creation of numerous Motorized Brigades and a Rapid Response Force, while expanding Commonwealth retaliatory capabilities. The best defenses are a good offense and a elastic defense.

Congress became divided over the Sanada Plans, as it came to be known as, and the NSA Plans. Conventional military thinking supports the NSA, but Congress is unwilling to fund such a large land force. On the other hand, Sanada's reputation precedes him and many military experts have viewed his plans as a innovative step that would revolutionize warfare.

Yet all this meant more waiting, talking and less action......

OOC: I dont see exactly how your nation could have 1,000 ships - when I was your size I had about 400 and I spent much of my military budget on the navy. Anyway, whatever.

IC: "Sir..." began Field Marshal Quellius Pila's Staff Lieutenant, breaking the prior silence in the office, "We are being attacked by Neo Cannen over the Belgium campaign, and now we attack Holland..."

"Yes? What's your point," asked the Field Marshal, irritably.

"Well will we not just enrage more Wilsonians by doing this?"

"Ah," began the Field Marshal. He was no longer annoyed, but rather happy that he could share his master plan with someone at last. It was close enough to the time of execution to safely do so, "this war will be Taiwanese. They will start it, we will finish it and Holland will be their forfeit. You see, the Taiwanese are not happy about us being here. They see it as a threat. They choose to end this threat quickly. They will attack across the border, and we will win and counterattack into Holland. That's what the outside world will believe, anyway..."

"I see," replied the Aide, knowingly. Not so far away, the plan was unfolding...

-------------------------

The light was failing on the Belgium-Holland border. Just out of sight of both the Taiwanese and the Praetonian defences, eight hundred men were arrayed as if on parade. They wore Taiwanese army uniforms, and carried Taiwanese army weapons, along with training ammunition. At their fore three Praetonian Officers sat atop their horses. In front of them a double line of Imperial Guard stood to attention with fix bayonets.

"Each of you here has caused problems for the Imperium, and her occupation of Belgium Each of you have been arrested, tried and convicted of the some of the gravest of crimes. Each of you here is now being given a second chance. His Majesty's Imperial Government has deemed Belgium worthy of her own Colonial Guard. We wish to make you brave, if misguided, people the core of the new Guard.

"If you accept this offer then you must swear an oath not to betray the Imperium before your government, and whatever religious book it is that you hold dear. If you decide not to accept this offer, then you may return to prison to serve out your terms with no adverse treatment because of it. I ask that all those who wish to accept His Majesty's offer take one step forward."

These people had been specifically chosen to be the most likely to accept. Their recent day and weeks in prison had been made especially hard, so as to make the thought of returning unimagineable. Each and every one of them stepped forwards. Some of them genuinely wanted to turn over a new leaf and serve as respected soldiers of his country. Others merely rated their chances at escape higher in the army than in prison. Regardless, each one of them would soon serve the Imperium. The Officer smilied.

"Thankyou, my new friends," the Imperial Guard unfixed their bayonets and shouldered their weapons, "I knew you would accept my most generous offer," he smiled again, "and so I have made preparations for us to start your training straight away. About turn!"

The entire formation turned shabily about to face the Praetonian lines, some miles away.

"Forward - march!"

-------------------------

Sergeant Gaius Castilius walked carefully along the concreted floor of the Praetonian trenchline, his boots splashing several puddles formed where the concrete has been laid unevenly. He was not expecting an attack. He was not expecting to see anything whilst he and his unit were doing their time in the trenches. The rest of the unit was deep underground in the concrete dugouts, complete with underfloor heating and television access. Someone, however, had to keep sentry and tonight it was Castilius's turn.

He turned a corner and slipped on the wet ground, just steadying himself on the trench walls. His head turned outwards and he saw something. Just a flash of light, but a flash of light where there should be nothing. He raised his rifle and looked through its optical sights. Whatever it was had vanished behind a bunch of trees.

"Sergeant Castilius, sir," came a shout from the section of trench opposite, "I can see lights ahead. Should we order the men to stand-to?"

"No, Corporal. It's quite alright. Radio the sighting back to HQ."

"Yes, sir."

The Corporal disappeared inside a shallower dugout for a few seconds, and then emerged shouting, "Stand to! Stand to! HQ expect an attack, I mean sir, any minute now sir. Stand to!" Men were rushing out of the dugouts, signalled to do so by alarms activated from one of a variety of places. Most of the men thrust their rifles over the lip of the trench with their polished bayonets glinting in the moonlight. Others ran to set up machineguns, slotting huge belts of ammunition into the feeds.

The Sergeant took position next to his men. An Officer, a Lieutenant, had also appeared with his sabre drawn.

"Courage now, men. When it all starts you shall keep firing, and they shall not break our lines," he said calmly.

The lights were appearing more and more now. The Praetonian Officers on horseback had left, as had the Imperial Guard. All that were left were men who would be mistaken for Taiwanese soldiers even at bayonet striking distance. The Lieutenant put his binoculars to his eyes, and saw the entire enemy formation suddenly appear from over the horizon.

"Steady, men... dont fire until I give the order," he said, one hand still holding the binoculars in place. He wanted to wait until the machineguns could rake back and forth, mowing down all of the enemy soldiers in deadly arcs of lead. They waited in silence. All light from the Praetonian trench line was extinguished. The Belgians didnt even know it was there.

"Ready... fire!" Suddenly massive spotlights flashed on from the Praetonian trenchline, dazzling the enemy as the Praetonian machineguns and rifles set to work. Half of the column fell instantly. Then the spotlights switched off. They had not been on for long, but it had been enough to ruin the 'enemy' night sight. It would take half an hour for their eyes to readjust.

The enemy soldiers who hadnt been killed already ducked, and began firing their weapons. The rifles recoiled, and smoke came out of the barrels, but no Praetonians were killed. To the inexperienced Belgian 'troops' they didnt even know they were firing blanks. The Lieutenant was waving his sword in the air to spur on his men. No one could hear his shouts over the deafening sound of automatic gunfire, but he was doing that too.

The machinegunners trained their weapons left and right. When they saw a body stand, silouetted against the moon light, they would pump a few dozen shots into the area. Soon everyone there was dead or dying. The Grenadiers' Companies moved out of the trenches to finish the job with bayonets. The bloody massacre was over in less than an hour, and the battle for Holland had begun.

High Priority Telegram to Taiwanese Islands PUBLIC

Last night at approximately 20:00 Praetonian forces engaged Taiwanese
forces at least 10 miles inside Praetonian Belgium. They were all cut down
whilst attempting your cowardly suprise attack. Henceforth, the Democratic
Imperium of Praetonia is in a state of war with Taiwanese Islands.

-------------------------

Sulking in the narrow inlets of the rivers of Belgium, a Vulture Class Arsenal Ship (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=7944895#post7944895) prepared for her first ever attack. She was a new design, and a whole new philosophy in the Praetonian Navy. No one really liked the idea of massive, impersonal missile strikes involving hundreds of warheads designed to overwhelm the enemy defences. Still, NationStates ships were gaining increasinly high levels of anti-missile defence, and it seemed the only way to be sure of gainign victory over fleets so defenced. THey were within range of the enemy fleet without having to leave Belgian waters, and so were in little immediate danger.

"Sir, we have received confirmation from Praeton that war has been declared. The scoundrels attacked across the border!" Said the Second Officer, indignantly.

"Yes, that's enough, Commodore. We shall launch the attack now. Have we received GPS co-ordinates from our satellites?"

"Yes, sir," said a Lieutenant from the microwave communications station. They would attack from beyond visual range with no radar lock, relying only on GPS - the most accurate form of guidance the Praetonian armed forced had. THe Rear-Admiral in command took a deep breath. This was an important day for the Praetonian Imperial Navy. Could the PWS Vulture be a new HMS Dreadnaught? Maybe. All would be revealed in time.

"Open fire," he said, and suddenly the whole ship was rocked violently backwards by over 650 Lance SSMs lifting off through the hatches. This was a true Pearl-Harbour style attack. In with the missiles were anti-radiation missiles that would hopefully disable enemy targetting radar, rendering at least some of their CIWS inoperable. The game had begun, and the pieces were moving.

OOC: I'm capable of upholding a huge Navy essentially because I've got no Army to worry about......

IC:

A Lieutenant rushed into General Ella Kanjcke room. The bewildered lad was almost choking himself to death, staring wide eyed at the General and waving his hands about.

Sanada was discussing some new video game with the General, who recently bought Play Station 2 and was having trouble switching the power on. This abrupt interruptiond did not annoy the two, but they knew immediately that something was wrong, and Sanada swiftly clapped his hands around Lieutenant Luke Tang.

"Grab a hold of yourself," he instructed. "Take a deep breath.... calm yourself down..... good. Tell us what's wrong."

"Sir, the Praetonians just declared war on us!" Lieutenant Tang, though by now much more steady, still spoke with shivers.

Sanada's body twisted. Snapping his head around, he saw that General Kanjcke remained solemn and expressionless, though a confused pair of eyes betrayed to them that she was just as alarmed as he was.

Clearing his throat, Sanada spoke. "Why?"

"They claimed that we attacked them," the Lieutenant said. "They claimed that our forces penetrated 10 miles into their territory."

"10 miles, my foot!" Sanda exclaimed angrily. "That is outrageous! Our closet unit to their border is stationed in Amsterdam!"

"The Praetonians are just grabbing at excuses for a war with us." Ella's face darkened. "I should have known. I was overconfident."

"No one would think that the DIA was right, for a change," Lieutenant Tang said.

The General shook her head, and stood up. "Doesn't matter now. Lieutenant!"

Luke Tang straightened himself. "Lieutenant Tang reporting for duty!"

"Activate the National Total Defense System. Cable the Capital for reinforcements. Move the Naval units out of port. Prepare the Air Force." She turned towards Sanada. "Go at once and assume command of the defenses of Amsterdam. I will personally oversee the defenses at Katsurato."

The two men briskly moved out, and Ella sat down once more, preparing for the forthcoming war.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministory of the Commonwealth issued a public statement:

Taiwanese Islands have no sizeable force near the borders with Belgium. The claim by Praetonia is obviously a most treacherous lie, a set up, an disgusting attempt at justifying their immoral position.

Taiwanese Islands wants not war, but when war comes to our lands Taiwanese Islands will fight her battles. The people of Taiwanese Islands wish for peace, but when the peace is shattered we shall stand by our military and win the war.

We will fight down to the last ship, last plane, last tank, last bullet and last soul. No city, no town, no village, no street no building will be left undefended. Every sqaure inch will be fought over. And we shall triumph!

OOC: Its nothing to do with range. These missiles have no way of finding their way around to ships in port. None of my ports are actually directly exposed to the ocean, and to be shooting from Belgium waters meant that your missiles would have to either fly across land or change directions half way through. Only cruise missiles can do a job like this.

Lately, I've seen a few non Earth III people getting involved in Earth III RP's and that is causing me a bit of confusion, as I try to figure out why or how these people got involved without any land in Earth III to call "home".

Again, I'd like to see clarification. :)

*sigh*

I dont see too many 2,000m tall trees around. Do you? It's just a massive missile attack. Missiles can fly high enough to pass over buildings etc... I dont see the problem here.

That's my point, anti-ship missiles shouldn't be flying so high......

(arh, enough with the tech talk.....)

Commonwealth Naval Base Beverwijk.

Admiral Tom Sierha was drinking tea with his cousin, retired General Ken Sierha, on the bridge of his Nimitz Class Aircraft Carrier, when Lieutenant Dan Lakre bolted into the room.

"Incoming missiles!" he screamed to the two old men. "Sir, we are under attack from Belgium!"

"Move the ships out!" Admiral Sierha snapped through the microphone.

"Sir, most of the crews are still inland! We can't move away fast enough!"

Horror flashed in the eyes of the Admiral. "All hands, abandon ship! Abdandon ship!" He ordered.

"Sir, please come this way," the Lieutenant said to the Admiral and his cousin. "One of the Corvettes are sailing out. We'll be safe abo-..."

He was cut off at that moment, as two dozen missiles slammed into the deck of the carrier. Flame erupted seemingly out of nowhere, aircrafts were blown off, and it was as though a great earthquake smashed at the ship.

The three men stared with a mixture of fear and amazement, as the carrier broke in half, and the fire engulfed them all.

Netherlands Commonwealth Command Headquarters, Katsurato.

As Sanada and Tang made their way out of Ella's office, another young officer rushed in, almost knocking them over. Knowing that something's up, the two men followed her back in.

"Praetonian missiles just hit our Naval bases!" Lieutenant Laura Wong reported to the General.

"What? Which one?" General Kanjcke demanded. "Losses?"

"All three," the Lieutenant said. "NSA estimated that about 150-250 missiles hit all three of our ports. Den Helder was sheltered by the new Patriot systems. They have a few damaged ships, nothing serious. A dozen got hurt.

"But the other two weren't so lucky - they didn't have much in the way of warning. The Beverwijk ones weren't even operational, all because there wasn't enough funding," she said bitterly. "The Carrier Battle Group at Europort was out patrolling, so they are okay. But the Patrol Response Fleet there is......." She choked, and had to take a moment to regain her breath.

"87 ships were sunk, 41 devastated, and the remaining 72 all suffered some form of damage. Only the new KIDD class and Ticonderoga cruisers was away from port, and avoided the attack. The civic port also suffered; 39 ships sunk and 44 damaged there. We also lost our fuel and ammunitions storage.

"3,000 has been reported dead. Another 4,000 is in the hospitals. NSA estimates that there are 15,000 more casualties," the Lieutenant said with a dark look.

"What about Beverwijk?" Sanada queried.

"The submarines there are fine. But we lost all of our AEGIS ships, and 20 of the 24 Corvettes. The KIDD class was conducting an exercise away from port, so those were fine." She took a deep breath before continuing. "Both our Aircraft Carriers there have been sunk. 1,200 reported dead, 2,000 in hospitals, and NSA estimates are 4,000 more."

All four of them looked at each other gloomily. The destruction of half their naval forces was a devastating blow. The loss of life tonight was one beyond comparison in the history of Taiwanese Islands. They bowed their heads in respect to the dead.

When Sanada looked up again, he saw fierce determination in the eyes of his colleagues. He know they would have saw the same in his.

"We will get these bastards," Ella said softly. "We will make them pay."

As the other three leave her office, General Kanjcke began planning.

EDIT: TI - It isnt physically impossible for a missile to follow any flight pattern other than sea-skimming just because it's classed as "anti-ship". Anyway, if this happens again I'll make an OOC thread so this thread doesnt get clogged up.

PWS Vulture

From behind the blast-shielded windows, Rear Admiral Tipilus viewed the plasma screen displays showing the VLS cells discharging. It wasn't a pretty sight. The cameras were soon blinded by smoke, and the dirty missile trails blackened the sides of the ship. If it were not NBC sealed, the fumes would likely affect the crew.

"What was that?" Snapped the Admiral, pointing at a small flash of light amidst the grey smoke.

"I dont kn... cells 27 through 32 detonated... prematurely, sir," said the Missile Officer, nervously.

"What? How so?"

"They exploded inside the launchers, sir - most of the explosion was vented through the top of the cells, but initial reports suggest at least ten casualties."

"Damn! Piece of experimental junk," he muttered, obviosuly refering the ship, "Turn us about. Bring us to join with the Grand Belgian Fleet."

"Sir."

Grand Belgium Fleet

The seventy Praetonian warships of which the Grand Belgian Fleet composed steamed slowly out of port. They were fairly well spread, with the carriers and transports in the centre, working out through size until ASW and AA picket frigates formed the outer edge. In the air, a CAP of twenty five planes, including two AWACs craft, ensured that the fleet would be able to detect the enemy long before they got into missile range.

The towering domes phased radar arrays stretched in every direction. Onboard the PWS Tau, an Omega Class battleship, Admiral Julius Daia reviewed his orders, sent directly from Praeton. He broke the wax seal of an eagle on the heavy parchment envelope and opened up the letter inside:

HIGH PRIORITY - MOST SECRET

His Imperial Majesty's naval assets in Belgium and the English Channel under
the command of Admiral the Honourable Julius Daia are to achieve the
following official objectives in order to support the combined ground invasion

2) Discover and blockade all major ports and trade routes.

3) Bombard coastal positions and land marines as Imperial forces approach.

Battleship Seven Provinces, 4th Fleet.

"Mi'lady Admiral, contact with the Praetorian fleet was made just two minutes ago, we are to execute plan Blue."

The Lady Admiral smiled, plan blue called for an attack on Taiwanese held Holland by air, sea and land. "Make it so, helm set sail towards Den Helder and notify the 6th fleet to commence landfall.

"Yes, Mi'lady, commencing plan Blue."

At the flick of a switch, 150 Lance ASM bursted from their VLS shells all over the fleet and headed towards Den Helder, to finish up watever the Praetorians had missed and the fleet changed course south as they crossed into territorial waters.

High above the fleet several patrols of JR interceptors did their rounds, guided by two AWAC aircraft as the ASW frigates steamed over the surface of the water, seeking for enemy submarines.

6th Fleet, Near the Dutch Coast, Leiden.

The transports snuck closer to shore, keeping low profile as they aproached hoping to avoid Taiwanese fire. Farther out to sea outside of territorial waters the 4th fleet kept a watchfull eye with a full compliment of ASW picket lines and AWAC guided airpatrols.

The attakcs came one after the other. By the morning, when reports of further assaults finally stopped, the Commonwealth Military in Netherlands was shattered. The Naval Foces was hit hard. The Aair Forces also came under attack, but the planes were largely sheltered, and so little actual harm was done.

Commonwealth Air units are now prmarily scattered across the 12 bases in Flevoland.

General Ella Kanjcke, now made Commander in Chief of European Theatre, reorganised her remaining naval assets. The surviving ships have now all relocated to Den Helder, along with the 4 Patriot Missile Defense Systems.

It was a calm Monday morning in northern Belgium, birds sung their songs and people happily commuted to work as they did every day of the week. No, nothing could destroy this perfect day except maybe a massive invasion of Taiwanese Holland by over 60.000 Dumpsterdanian mechanised infantry supported by over a thousand tanks that would clog the highways like nothing else would.

Unfortunately, that was happening right now.

By the Dawn's early light.

Hundreds upon hundreds of transport aircraft, helicopters and their escort took off from airfields all over Praetonian Belgium on their way towards the north. Over twelve-thousand para's would deployed near Arnhem and Nijmegen, while four-thousand specially trained forces of the 5th infantry would be deployed via helicopters transports near 's Hertogenbosch along with their LBT, APC and light artillery. Every plane that had some sort of transport capability and would not be deployed for escort duty was carrying paratroopers or supplies towards their destinated drop zones. Their primary objectives where to secure the bridges over the river Rhine, Waal and Zuid Willems Kanaal.

Meanwhile in northern Belgium all major highways had been closed off to civilian traffic as the tanks of 8th armour and the APC's of the 95th mechanised advanced towards the north along the primary highways and their first objective along the line; Eindhoven, 's Hertogenbosch, Oss, Nijmegen and Arnhem. The first tank rolled over the sign saying "Welcome to Holland." and swung its turret around, no opposition, yet and DAF high command was not expecting it until near Nijmegen or as far as Arnhem.

As the invasion was coming into full gear around three other mechanised divisions started to head towards the line: Breda, Dordrecht and Rotterdam. From there they would split towards their individual objectives deeper inland.

North Sea.

The first transports of the 6th fleet now turned abruptly and started to head for the Dutch shore near The Hague, the Taiwanese had probably spotted them by now and the only chance they had was to get as close in as they could and deploy as many troops as they could, even going as far as beaching themselves to deliver the troops. 6th fleet itself stood guard inside territorial waters and would be joined shortly by 4th fleet so they could make one fist and hammer the Taiwanese fleet into oblivion.

The Primus Pila of the Praetonian armoured column bounced suddenly on its suspension as the Hoplite MBT (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=360189) hit the back lip of the Praetonian trenchlines. Mud fell into the vacant defensive work as tank after tank piled over, the first now pushing through the hundreds of meters of barbed wire at the fore of the trenchworks. Behind, 2,000 Mercury IFVs carrying 20,000 Imperial Guardsmen along with 400 Hoplites and over 200 Badger LSVs (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=382441), revved up their engines to strike deep into Holland. It would be a twenty mile drive to the edge of Praetonian territory and whatever resistance the Taiwanese would offer, but already the tanks were buttoned, turrets training back and forth as Badgers rushed ahead to scout the ground ahead.

"How long to the Hague?" asked an Office on the Praetonia General Staff, smiling.

"I'd bet 1,000 Praefelis on two weeks or less!" shouted another Officer over the noise of the bouncing command IFV.

"I'd raise you 2,000!" shouted the Field Marshal, "The real war will be in the North East, once the Taiwanese get a chance to react to our attack."

"And the navy? What are they doing?" Asked another Officer, curiously.

"The navy... they will sweep the seas of Taiwanese ships, blockade their ports and cut off their oil supplies. Once they run out of oil the war is over."

The navy was indeed moving. All 69 ships and 488 aircraft, all designed, built and serviced in Praefele by Imperial Praetonian Shipyards and Portland, moved to flanking speeds to approach the ports of the Netherlands. AWACs planes and EAW helicopters were in the air, hopefully ensuring that the Praetonian fleet would be able to spot anything that came their way before it could fire upon the Praetonians.

PSCA (http://s4.invisionfree.com/Praetonia/index.php?showtopic=1) aircraft flew high above the Praetonian fleet, outfitted with various AAMs, as turrets trained back and forth, up and down on the Praetonian fleet to check everything was ready for combat. VLS cells sat ever-ready to destroy whatever came close. The Imperial Navy was sailing to war.

(OOC: I don't see how it would take two weeks for your forces to arrive at the Hague.....)

The Netherlands High Command in Katsurato has finally gotten their acts together. Activation of the Total Armament Mechanism has been completed, the children and the elderly north of Hertogensbosch have more or less been evacuated into the fortress city of Katsurato, and the Air Force has finished relocating to Flevoland, though combat capabilities have yet to be restored.

On the second day of the war, Sanada supervised a recon mission conducted by 24 Dark Star Drones. They kept well clear of the enemy, but 5 were still lost during landing procedures. The information gathered has been sent to NSA to analyse, and the results are finally back in.

"In the North Sea: enemy transports are rushing towards our shores. Intel suggests that their destination will be the Hague." Lieutenant Laura Wong read out the telegram.

"Fools, our fleet can still sink transports," General Gimini Goscha muttered. "Tell whoever is in charge there to attack!"

"Um... Sir? Enemy naval combatants are also present in the North Sea. Our forces will be severelly outnumbered in a conflict."

"As I thought," General Kanjcke told General Goscha. "Get our ships to fire all their missiles at enemy ships, and flee north as fast as possible. Cable the Marines in Amsterdam to bail government officials out of the Hague."

Another Lieutenant answered and left the conference room to relay the orders. Lieutenant Wong continued with her reports.

"On the Land: enemy forces have crossed our borders. To the west, NSA estimates are around 60,000. In the East, there are about 30,000. Both columns are heading north through our highway systems.

"In the Air: about 800 aircrafts has appeared in our airspace. They appear to be transports, and intel suggests that their destinations will be Arnhen and Utrecht. There may be up to as much as 25,000 paratroopers."

"They are making a move against the 4th division?" General Kanjcke said to no one in particular. "Very well. Move the 4th out from Doetinchem towards Arnhem."

"Those plans are pratically sitting ducks for our air defense systems," General Thomas Barns stated. "Get the Patriot systems ready. A plane down is a hundred less to worry about."

"Too bad our Air Force is still out of commission," Goscha sighed.

The sky above Arnhem is to be defended by 9 sets of PAC-2 Missiles: 3 from Amsterdam, and 6 from Katsurato. Added to that is the PAC-3 missile systen installed in Arnhem itself.

"There's nothing else we can do now," General Barns said. "Before reinforcements arrived these would have to do."

The meeting ended, but just as the Generals are leaving, Ella Kanjcke suddenly spoke. "I've got a plan." Everyone stopped dead in their tracks, and looked back at the General.

"Lieutenant, send the subs south," She told Laura Wong, with a sudden grin. "Time for pay back."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

North Sea, Commonwealth Naval Forces

"Admiral, we have received new orders!"

Admiral Narne Nitzme turned aroudn and read a slip handed to her.

"Very well," she said, with the slightest traces of excitement. "Ready the ship."

15 minutes later, the tranquility of the seas is suddenly and brutally disrupted by the simultaenous launch of more than 1,500 missiles. Most of them are Tomahawk Anti-Ship missiles, but a few are Harppons.

As soon as the missiles took off, the ships started moving, full speed north. Their guns are readied and trained towards the East, ready to fire upon anything that showed up. AWACS planes and a few fighters are scrambled, to ensure that the sky is safe. Perhaps to reassure herself, Admiral Nitzme ordered that al ships fired their guns onces in the direction of the enemy ships.

The sailors of the Commonwealth Naval Force prayed that they would make it into port in time.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Netherlands Air Defense Command, Patriot Batteries

"Sir, radar has detected enemy aircrafts," a young mechanic told his commanding officer. "What should we do?"

"Ah, finally," Major Zaft Mechene said. "We have been waiting. You know the drill, young man." Though Zaft himself, at the age of 22, isn't exactly old either.

As bright spots began popping up all over their radars, the 9 sets of Patriot Advanced Capability 2 Systems fired off 36 missiles in rapid successions. A second salvo of another 36 will be launched in a few moments, as soon as the soliders finished reloading.

288 missiles in total would soon be soaring through the sky.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

North Sea, Commonwealth Submarine Forces

Admiral Noriko Kazutani sailed quietly south, away from the rest of the Commonwealth ships. They have cut off all communications, for fear of giving their positions away. No one but Admiral Kazutani and General Kanjcke knows the exact target of these submarines, but one can't be too carefull.

This is almost a suicide mission, Noriko thought. I hope we got the facts right.

The 41 submarinees of the Netherlands Commonwealth Submarine Fleet quietly make their way towards their targets........

As the conflict in Netherlands evolved into full-scale war, the Taiwanese Islands Congress meets in Jhongsing Village to discuss actions. The war has revealed the incompetence of the Commonwealth military - which is a collection of units previously owned by each individual state before the formation of the fedeal government - in defending the interests of the nation.

Without much debate, the Congress unanimously voted to issue an official declaration of war upon the Democratic Republic of Praetonia, with a writting arguing that Taiwanese Islands is on the defensive side.

Next, the Parliament voted overwhelmingly to approve of a new budget plan for a permanent military for the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth Armed Forces Project has been presented to the Senate years ago, and had been rejected outright each time. Opposition, however, crumbled instantly as Praetonian assaults began in Europe.

As part of the project, the Air Forces, Sea Forces and Land Forces are formed as different branches of the Commonwealth Military. Each branch has its own Department, under the Ministory of Defense, which deals with organisational, personnell and resource distribution matters. In addition, the Joint Services Command - staffed by 3 top officers from each branch - is formed to take charge of tactical and battleground issues.

Having established the military commands, Senate authorized the creation of 30 brigades. These units will be sent out for combat within 4 weeks - a time too short to adqeuately prepare the bridages in any decent way, but a time too long, perhaps, to save Commonwealth Netherlands.

I will not bring this offer to the Osean Council for beings that Praetonia is a New Commonwealth Pact Member, a top priority for myself and my government to keep, and that doing so is agenst my future plans, and the happenings in South America.
I will, however, like to open Germany's borders to any refugees on any sides, and if needed, I can pay for airliners to transport deep-landers to our neutral borders.
I am also requesting that the interested parties hold peace talks in a neutral nation to avoid complecations and further bloodshed. I am willing to put my presidentel possition on the line to have peace come, without military force.

But then, I've got all the weapons required, enough for 30 fully equipped divisions, from all the storefront purchases in recent years. And, as I said before, all of my population underwent basic military trainings (to shoot, throw grenades etc) in high school and colleges anyway.

Besides, I created them essentially to create lineages for my units and make my military history that much more interesting.

The Grand Fleet of Belgium, 50 Miles off the Coast of Holland

The sun rose early, bathing the Praetonian ships in light. Light sparkled off of radar domes, helicopters, windows and missiles. Missiles streaking towards the Taiwanese Fleet, which, having sailed out of port to engage the Dumpsterdam fleet in the North Sea was now being surrounded by the 69 ships of the Praetonian Fleet. They were some way off - outside of big gun and standard SSM range, but twenty of the limited number of Halberd Anti-Capital Ship Missiles carried aboard the large vessels streaked off towards the Taiwanese Carriers and other large ships.

Meanwhile, aboard the Praetonian WarShips, colours were raised, indicating their intention to give battle. The twelve 20" guns carried aboard each Omega Class Trimaran Battleship trained backwards and forwards, upwards and downwards as they prepared to rain deadly fire upon the lightly armed American ships.

OOC: Here are the stats for the missile Im firing, taken from my ftorefront (link in sink):

‘Halberd’ anti-Battleship Missile

Length: 14.28m
Diameter: 98cm
Weight: 5,281kg
Speed: Mach 1.8 Supercruise, Mach 2.6 Terminal
Range: 386km
Warhead: 2,872kg High-Explosive Fragmentation
Guidance and Countermeasures: Missile remotely guided by ship radar; ‘Simplex’ Guidance radar for course adjustments, redundancy and countermeasure avoidance; advanced computer for countermeasure avoidance; ECCM systems
Unit Cost: $3,200,000
Production Rights Cost: $475,000,000

The huge Halberd anti-Battleship missile is our answer to the BBGs that shrug off Harpoons like small arms fire. The Halberd is big and expensive, but it gets the job done. It is equipped with the most powerful solid fuel engine we can fit into a missile and the most advanced countermeasure avoidance technology we have. However, the main difference between this and any other missile is its massive 2,872kg Penetrative Explosive warhead which forms a shaped charge on impact, channeling the full force of the explosion directly into the armoured plate. The Halberd is also the most expensive missile we have, but if you see it take down a multi-billion dollar battleship, I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s worth every penny. Even more so, the upgraded Halberd features RAMjet technology, making even this 5 ton behemoth faster than a Harpoon missile.

If possible can we all get this RP going again?

OoC: Feeling much better now, thanks for waiting guys.

I'll just say how many Testudo CIWS I have and how many discus AMM where launched so we don’t get all confused with numbers and who/what/where.
Do remember that I have plenty of time to defend against your missile attack, that the Testudo is one of the best CIWS in the world and that the Discus AMM is an integrated part of the Testudo.

Retaliation will come after I’m completely done with your attack.

IC:

Flagship Seven Provinces.

"Milady, we have incoming fire from the Taiwanese fleet! TACCOM has already indentified and tracked over 90% of incoming, laser guidance is ready!"

Lady Admiral Raditz nodded as she waved off the reports. "Intercept, regroup and retaliate." She turned around at the same moment the window shutters on the Seven Provinces closed.

The bridge crew set to work, they knew they where safe seeing as the Seven Provinces shrugged off Harpoon ASM's like small arms fire, the tomahawks however where slow and easy meat for the eight Testudo CIWS but the rest of the fleet just had to fend for their very survival.

“Milday the fleets report that there are around 335 Testudo CIWS online and TACCOM is dispersing the fire from our AMM so no incoming gets double fire, the launching begun eight seconds ago. At our current rate we can only get a 1:2 or maybe a 2:3.” Raditz leaned on the table of the holo map, nodding to herself some more. “Continue firing, tell our Air Patrols to shoot down as many incoming as they can.”
As Raditz took a final look at the Discus AMM launch counter it stuck at 567 and refused to budge, she was told by the crew that reloads where in progress, too late to release a second volley.

Operation Market.

Airforce Marshall DeLane watched over the massive amounts of aircraft passing into Holland, her operators where doing their utter best to coordinate all efforts and to guide each plane to their designated LZ.

As the first planes reached over the Waal a flurry of red dots where visible on the holo map, incoming missiles from Arnhem and she could see both escorts and Thunderhawks responding by deploying flares and fighters doing their best to draw away fire from the huge Thunderhawks.
Forty JR type C and twenty-two JR type B where destroyed as they actively lured in missiles and where destroyed, thirty Thunderhawks didn’t make despite furious efforts from both escorts and operators. The gliders on the other hand experienced very little trouble from the missile fire and made their way towards fields just outside Arnhem, quietly and mostly unseen.

Near Nijmegen and ‘s Hertogenbosch it was a completely different story as landings and drops commenced largely unhindered and the huge prototype Thunderhawk VTOL transports swooped from the sky to deploy several platoons at a time. MBT’s and APC’s rolled forth from their bellies and the top-mounted 155mm artillery pieces where deployed to provide fire-support for advancing forces of the 5th infantry division.

Operation Garden.

Field Marshal Talas poked his head out of his Rhino command APC and waved to the tank commander sitting on the turret of his Relas MBT. “Whats the hold up? Mines?” He asked.

The tank ace shook his head. “No sir, the recon forces just returned and the column is starting to move again. We are at ‘s Hertogenbosch sir and we’ve linked up with elements of 5th infantry, recon says we’ll take the city in a few hours.” The ace popped back into the hatch of his Relas and Talas did the same and the column started moving again.

Taskforce Guardian.

The wing of ground attack aircraft carefully watched the attack from Arnhem on the air armada and made their move as soon as all of the Taiwanese missile batteries had revealed themselves and their radar guidance had been pinpointed. A sleek stream of 119 Intruder anti radar missiles dove down upon the radar stations that the Taiwanese where using to guide their anti missile systems.

OoC: Ok, I lied, I did counter-attack a tad. The Intruder is designed to home in on radar stations and destroy them. Switching off the radar won’t help seeing as the Intruder will hit the coordinates where the last radar emission was made. If radar stations are below concrete then the Intruder will attempt to smash through and detonate after coming to a standstill.

"Admiral! Incoming missiles!"

Admiral Nitzme snapped her head up. The most dreaded moment has arrived.

"Tell the AEGIS ships to fire their missiles!" She ordered. "Ready the CIWS guns!"

On her command, the Ticonderoga cruisers immediatly launched ten Standard Missles to intercept each of the Praetonian Halberd missiles.

"AEGIS can't shield us," Captain O'Neill said nervously, and sure enough, more than ten broke through and continued showing up as bright little green dots on the radar screen.

"Damn," Admiral Nitzme muttured. What to do now? The Praetonian missiles are strangely fast; not much can be done before they hit the ships. Time was running desperately short.......

Just then, a young Lieutenant began screaming. Nitzme whirled around, and saw ten or so glistering objects streaking through the sky, coming right at her ships.

It could not have taken more than 2 seconds, but to Admiral Nitzme - and indeed most Taiwanese Island sailors - the time seemed external. Two of the missiles smashed right into a Nimitz Class Carrier, unhindered by the CIWS. The other carrier had a bit more luck, taking out the one coming at it just before detonation, but that did not save the bridge and a squardron of planes from being demolished by missile fragments. 5 KIDD destroyers and 3 Ticonderoga cruisers were hit directly, and seemed to sunk into the waters for a second.

Time returned to normal, and flames erupted. Successive booms sent shockwaves through the water, the ships hit had been eliminated from existence, and some of the smaller ships surrounding them soon transformed into balls of fire.

By the time Nitzme got everything under control again, half her fleet has been taken down. The carrier, the 5 KIDD and the 3 Ticonderago are wrecks already, drifting towards the bottom of the ocean. Resulting blasts knocked ten or so ANZACS off course with huge fragments, killing crews and wrecking hulls.

The Admiral did not waste any time. Without the slightest hesitation she ordered the abandoning of all mediumly or more damaged ships. The remaining ships hurriedly sailed north, fleeing towards the safety that seemed light years away.

Commonwealth Patriot Batteries, Netherlands

"Oh damn, we are done for......" Major Zaft Mechene groaned, suddenly noticing bright dots approaching rapidly. ""Shoot those missiles down!"

Answering instinctively to their commander's shrieks, the soldiers rapidly adjusted their systems. The Patriots had just been loaded, and so 36 missiles were launched instantly. Yet the Intruders almost flew right past them, with only 8 being taken down.

PAC-2 is, Zaft thought, not adequeate for this job after all.

As the enemy missiles closed in, the final line of defense activated: the newly installed PAC-3 systems.

24 of the new Patriot Advanced Capabilities 3 missiles shot up into the sky, knocking down enemy missiles with reassuring efficiency and proving their worth despite range limitations to everyone present.

Yet despite their valiant efforts, there was not enough of them. More than one hundred warheads smashed into the fortified radar sites of the Commonwealth, quickly leveling the buildings.

Back at the Patriot sites, Major Mechene and his troops saw the screen flickered once, and died. The TMD here had been broken.

Flagship Seven Provinces

The radar operator turned around to Lady Admiral Raditz, the single word coming from his lips was; "Contact"

The first harpoon hit the Seven Provinces and failed to penetrate, rocking the massive battleship slightly as more and more impacts raced over the armoured belt of the flagship. All over the fleet ships where hit as Testudo CIWS failed to keep up with the constant stream of missiles.

As the final missile was carefully picked off by a Testudo the damage became clear on both the transports and the combat ships as the first reports came in.

The 6th fleet reported that both its carriers had taken hits and that only the Nimitz was currently afloat, the Dixie was stuck on a sandbank and her three wings of aircraft where relocated to Airport Eindhoven. A good deal of the 6th fleets escorts also had recieved the brutal treatment.

The 4th fleet also recieved damage but also contained a higher amount of anti missile systems and airpatrols where stationed there and where able to prevent some of the damage.

OoC:
Remaining ships of the 6h fleet:

Carrier Fleet:

1(1 damaged) Nimitz class carrier.
6(1 damaged) Karel Doorman class frigates.
4(1 damaged) class cruisers.
8(2 damaged) Zeven Provincien class frigates.

Escort Group:

0(0 damaged) Dixie class escort carrier.
2(0 damaged) Karel Doorman class frigates.
1(0 damaged) Ticonderoga class cruiser.
3(1 damaged) Zeven Provincien class frigates.

16(8 damaged)Roman class transports.(from the original 22)

Remaining ships of the 4th fleet:

2 Behemoth class super carrier.
30(6 damaged) Karel Doorman class frigates.
18(2 damaged) Ticonderoga class cruisers.
35(5 damaged) Zeven Provincien class frigates.

If I say damaged I mean damaged to the extent that they need to be brought to a shipyard and recieve extensive repairs to be functional combat capable ships. The Roman class that where sunk and or damaged will have been able to deploy some troops and some of them have beached themselves or have sunk in shallow waters where they stick out of the water but I'll RP that tonight when I have some more time for the rest of my actions on land and my retalitation.

Outskirts of Arnhem, Netherlands

Divisional Headquarters, Commonwealth 4th Marine Division

General Nathan Sun and his troops were still moving into the city when news of a successful enemy deployment nearby came in. Apparently, an assault by enemy fighters had cut off the air defense systems of the area, and allowed the transports to deliver their 'cargo' in relative safety.

Panicking, General Sun ordered 5 Dark Star drones around the urban centre to search for enemy forces. Before long, news of a sizeable hostile unit were reported in. Apparently divisional in strength, the unit was supported by several combat vehicles and appeared to pose a significant threat to the 4th division.

The General immediately halted his troops and positioned each unit carefully. The 9 regiments of the division formed a cluster chain, with 3 units including the HQ at the center. When troop movements finally resumed, Commonwealth forces acted slowly and with great caution.

One regiment is an exception, though. Instead of slowing and avoiding mistakes at all costs, this regiment rushed into downtown Arnhem, and tried to capture most if not all of the strategic facilities.

One battalion had already taken Heteren and its bridge over the Rhine and one of its companies was pushing on towards Driel.

Another company had positioned itself in the town of Wolfheze and the main force had landed near Oosterbeek and Steel had set up HQ here, his radio's where working perfectly and he was told by the airforce that operation Garden was well underway and would reach Arnhem in less then two days.
With a smile on his face he orderd two battalions forward towards the centre of Arnhem and its three bridges over the Rhine, the battalions would scout out Taiwanese strength before the remainder of the two brigades would be moved in, 1st and 7th battalion advanced through the subburbs of Arnhem and would soon encouter resistance...

4th Division HQ, Lathurn

General Sun arrived in his recently prepared command post in the small town of Lathurn with his 1st Headquarters Regiment. From here, he directed the troops of his division in the struggle for Arnhem. To the south, the 5th Regiment was advancing towards Muissen, carried forward by their HMMWV's. Behind them, the 7th Regiment had established itself across the river, in Westervdort, while the 6th regiment positioned itself somewhat between the 7th and the HQ regiments. In the north, the 2nd Regiment secured Rheden. The 3rd Regiment was ordered into Duiven as reserves, and the 4th Regiment marched energetically towards Velp.

Continuous Dark Star operations have revealed that Dumpstedam forces are mainly concentrated along railroads and Oosterbeek, and some are moving into the city already. General Sun's plans were to drew the enemy into a pitched urban battle, where the Commonwealth citizens may provide support with their shotguns and M-16 assault rifles.

Now that it seems enemy forces are advancing in the right directions, he ordered the 4th regiment to push west as quickly as possible, to lure in more Dumpsterdam forces. The 2nd, 6th and 7th are put on a status of highest alert, told to be ready for moving out as soon as the bulk of enemy troops are where the General wants them. The 1st is ready to provide support at any time.

But neither did he wished to put all his eggs in one basket. Sun had always believed in the doctrine of surrounding your enemies, and so the 5th and 3rd regiments are kept to the south, exactly for this purpose.......

OoC: I've been observing the area around Arnhem so I know exactly what the advantes are of the area.

Oosterbeek lies on a raised area of ground so allows my spotters an advantage in locating your forces for my para artillery guns.

However I must warn you about sending tanks into downtown Arnhem, you'll see why in my post.

IC:

Operation Market

General Steel carefully observed the enemy advancing, both through the scopes of his spotters and via the TACCOM sattelite network, he was able to find several regiments heading towards central Arnhem and directed his two advance battalions towards the river, one hugging the river directly, advancing past the docksides and waterfronts towards the first bridge and the other guarding the left flank of the other making sure that no Taiwanese managed to get in between the line.

At the same time a battalion made its way over the railroad bridge near Oosterbeek, fully mechanised with the 6th para's Rhino APC's and two units of Relas MBT's they advanced rapidly over the road and made their way to the first Rhine bridge, intent on linking up with the 7th battalion.

Steel recognised the threat that Taiwanese troops where posing to his troops in Arnhem, an full scale artillery barrage from the 6th para's 30 155mm atillery pieces would solve it but also envoke a response and it was better to call in the Royal Airforce. A short encrypted radio transmission later three squadrons of JR-65 took off from airport Eindhoven, two interceptor squadrons and a ground attack squadron.

One wing(3 aircraft) would hit the bridge near Loo under a triple escort as the remaining 42 would engage the Taiwanese tanks in the small and narrow streets of downtown Arnhem where they would be sitting ducks for the missiles and 30mm armour piercing gunfire. Taiwanese fighters where to be expected but ground fire would probably be a minimum with most of the radar stations taken out and the fact that several of the interceptors carried Intruder missiles.

Operation Garden

Field Marshal Talas looked over the charts, noting that they had crossed into Nijmegen and that no major resistance had been detected yet, a few youths with m16's had been gunned down near Eindhoven by a Rhino APC but nothing else so far. Talas ripped the lastest report off the printer, he was told to expect Taiwanese units just south of Arnhem but strength and exact location where unknown. He silently cursed and contacted the lead tank but still no enemy...

OoC: Just remember that most of your runways are full of big craters, but I know you have VTOL aircraft.

That and as for my attacks on Arnhem, the bridge near Loo would be easy pickings seeing as its a small stone bridge and your tanks would be sitting ducks in the old city of Arnhem.

4th Regiment, Arnhem City Centre

Colonel Lucser leaned over a bench, studying a hastily assembled map, put together after rough reports by scouts in the past few hours.

A young sergeant bumped in and reported. "Sir, SENTINEL reports enemy air units detected."

"What the hell, no one told me anything about airborne threats!"

"Umm... Sir, I took the liberty of calling Katsurato and notified them of the situation," Lieutenant Amelia Liao, who walked in behind the sergeant, added. "Our vehicles would be extremely vulnerable, sir."

"Yes, you're right," regaining his composure, Colonel Lucser sighed. "Put the AA teams on alert; spread them out around our tanks."

On his order, the M6 Bradleys attached to the unit quickly deployed themselves around the regiment's armour units, and soldiers carrying the FIM-92A Stingers dashed across the streets and took up positions on the roof of buildings.

To the east, the 40 F-35 JSF of the 4th Division flew in to defend their colleagues on the ground.

Flevoland, Air Foce Regional Command

"Ma'am, we received calls for help from the 4th Marines!" A sergeant shouted over the defeaning noises on the airfield, while the engineering companies worked to clear debris and fill in the craters created by earlier missile strikes.

"Good, sortie our Raptors!" Air General Yee-Wei Huang bellowed back.

"What about the Joint Strike Fighters, ma'am?" Her aide, Lieutenant George Kosgavi questioned. "They do have VTOL capabilities."

"No, they are almost useless on the battlefield, especially when they have to lift off vertically," General Huang told him. "Get as much Raports up there as possible. Well, there's no harm in sending off some F-35, but that's only secondary."

Outside, 24 Raptors began taking off one after another, through 2 narrow strips of air fields that've been temporarily repaired. Due to the extensive damages, what usually took less than 2 minutes is now eating up 8 minutes of valuable time. At the other end of the base, 18 JSF also took off, and the 42 fighters raced towards Arnhem to intercept enemy aircrafts.

Behind them, 12 more Raptors - damaged during the earlier attacks - were being worked on feverishly by their ground crews. In all likeliehood, they probably won't make it to the action in time, though.

The head of the Praetonian armoured column had swept along the Western Coast of Belgium in just a few days. Little resistance was encountered, save for a few scattered insurgents who were quickly gunned down by the Praetonian IFVs.

"We've reached the seperation point, sir," an Aide reported to the Field Marshall in overall command of the operation.

"Excellent... have Lieutenant General Lupus Ripus take 5,000 men to take Amsterdam, the other 20,000 will swing East to attack Arnhem."

"Yes, sir," the aide replied and left the command IFV.

------------------------------------------

Later that day, the Battalion commanders were assembled inside the Field Marshall's command tent to hear what was to happen the following day.

"Good afternoon, Gentleman. This is the plan of action. Colonels Terpus and Veritus shall take their Battalions and take and hold Ginkelse Heide. The remaining 18,000 troops shall sweep around to the North and attack into the town from the countryside. The two Battalions inside Ginkelse Heide shall then move in from the West, encircling the enemy on three sides and trapping them between both Praetonian and Dumpsterdanian troops and forcing them across the river to where they will crushed."

OOC: Ok, just assume that's happening then Im tired. Is there anything defending Ginkelse Heide or the countryside behind Arnhem?

Dark Star drones had long since been observing a perimeter of 4th Division formations. Suddenly, units to the north detected motion on the ground. Their operator practically jumped.

"Colonel," the young technician called. "Enemy.... Praetonian forces to the north!"

"What! How the hell did they got here so fast..... How many?"

"About 20,000," he replied. "They are pushing down into Arnhem."

The message is delivered at once to General Sun. "Talk about bad news," he muttured. The drastic change of situation called for a swift in strategy, yet Sun is a man who dreaded deviations from a pre-set plan, and lacks the ability to forment a new one anyway. "Send the 7th regiment to reinforce the 4th. Tell the 6th to come up here and move the Headquarters reigment out, and we'll attack the Praetonians from behind with the 2nd."

Upon his orders the tense Commonwealth troops began moving. Thousands of troops and vehicles piled north, and the 1st, 2nd and 6th regiments were soon cutting through the countryside from Rozendaal towards the enemy lines.

Notice how the 'sweep around to the North' part came right after Ginkelse Heide? According to the map Dumpsterdam showed us, that town is rather close to Arnhem. Besides, you said the 'remaining 18,000', so by logic you would have been talking about the 20,000 which had 'swing East to attack Arnhem'.

As for the Dark Star UAV, I had been sending them out for quite a long time now. They'd be flying around as your forces showed up in the vicinty, so I do not think there is any difficulty in detecting 18,000 troops at all. Your soldiers can alway notice them and shoot them down, but either way I would know you're coming.

The north thing, clue why I wrote that, but I think I mean that the troops will attack the North of Arnhem, not randomly go North and off the map of Arnhem. Can you make a map of where your troops are?

IC:

Operation Market

7th Battalion arrived at the first bridge, a inspection by the engineers of the unit revealed a lack of demolition charges and across the bridge the lead elements of the 1st mechanised battalion could be seen. A company of men was left behind at the bridge with four Relas MBT's two Rhino APC's and four mobile SAM's.

The attack proceeded as before, two brigades on the north bank one preventing the other from being flanked and the third one on the south bank, advancing rapidly.

Meanwhile a good 50 kilometres from Arnhem, ground attack aircraft began releasing their missiles. The FAF missiles where guided by TACCOM and SPYSAT to their targets, armour piercing missiles for the tanks and several loaded with area detonation munitions to wound and kill infantry. Taiwanese fighters had been scrambled and they where showing up on radar or where being tracked by observers on the ground and sometimes even IR SPYSAT camera's.

The first wave of fighters would endure a barrage of 90 FAF AAM's and possibly more if they survived.

Operation Garden

The lead elements of the 8th armour cleared Nijmegen after a brief struggle with the local militia that had resulted in a destroyed Rhino and two dead regulars. The line of MBT's and APC's moved forward once again over the road towards Arnhem, recon drones and scout squads had already been sent forward and they where yet to report their findings of Taiwanese units somewhere south of Arnhem.

Both sides of the eight lane highway where packed and alongside that through the fields advanced infantry ordered to flush out any ambushes far ahead of the main column.

Operation Sealion

"First units have arrived at The Hague and Rotterdam, where moving in and onto the parliament buildings and along the beaches." A ensign bumped into the command centre where Lieutenant Thomps was still in command of 11.000 marines or so, unable to find anyone in rank he had taken up command and directed brigades towards their objectives.

"Secure the city let no-one out and if anyone resists, shoot them." Thomps replied looking over the map of the area know as the Randstad.

"Sir." The ensign replied and rushed out.

Thomps wasn't too happy, the 4th brigade's scouts had ran into militia units near Rotterdam and they where going to need some time to push out all resistance and clear the harbour so that the Royal Navy could deploy its gunboats up all major rivers.

IC:

The fighters noticed the missiles almost immediately after they were launched.

"Quick, launch our own missiles too," Yee-Wei Huang shouted into the microphone. "Raptors, fire at will, fire at will!"

Above, the Raptors each released 3 AIM-120 missiles from their hatches, and then immediately took evasive maneouvres. The lighter JSF used only two, and then scattered as the enemy missiles closed in.

From Arnhem, the 40 JSF from the 4th division each managed to shoot off 3 AMRAAM but, rather than preparing for an enemy onslaught, charged forward and raced each other towards the enemy fighters.

Not surprisingly, most could not manage to dodge the missiles fast enough, with many crashing head on with the enemy projectiles. only 15 made it through the deadly missile wall, with a futher 4 so heavily damaged that their pilots decided quite completely on their own that they would turn back.

However, the more prepared fighters from the Flevoland Air Foce Regional Command fared better. All Raptors survived the attack, with many of the missiles apparently not able to have a lock on, and only 9 F-35 Joint Strike Fighters went down. 2 more and 1 Raptor had to return to base after being clipped by a missile, but initial reports by the ground crew revealed that there was no serious damage and that the fighters could return to the sky in a matter of hours.

Meanwhile, a total of 228 AIM-120 missiles sliced through the sky towards enemy fighter concentrations.......

IC: "The enemy is crossing over to the West bank, sir," the Captain said, pointing towards the river from where he could already see a have of small pieces of road thrown up into the air by the steel tracks of tanks. The battalion was currently still in green fields, speeding towards the Arnhem sity center in IFVs and tanks that looked like massive moving hedgerows.

"Is our artillery in place?" the General shouted over the roar of the engine, which could be well heard from his position in the turret cupola, turning to face the Captain who was still manning the radio inside his tank.

"Not yet, sir, but soon."

"When the artillery is in place, have them give fire. Have the 4th and 5th Battalions swing towards Rheden before entering the city, and the 1st and 2nd towards the Dumpsterdanian forces."

"Yes, sir."

The General was confident of success, but he was still cautious. Two battalions of infantry and the one battalion of armour were kept behind in Ginkelse Heide to guard the artillery, act as a mobile reserve and also as a roadblock to cover the Brigade's retreat, should that be neccessary.

Meanwhile, thirty SeaSnake fighter/bombers had taken off from their carriers and, learning that the Dumpsterdanian airforce was under attack from most of the Taiwanese airforce, was currently heading towards their runways and airfield. They would do a much better job than the Dumpsterdanians, not only destroying runways with cluster bombs and larger explosives, but also targettting fuel, hangars, supply depots and airfield command posts.

General Sun felt exceedingly confident, surrounded by more than 5,000 of troops he has long since commanded. He was sure that nothing would defeat him, and that soon he would reach enemy lines, cutting them off from behind and thereby ensuring a great victory.

He was still indulging himself in his fantasies when a scout called in frantically to report thousands of enemy troops moving dirctly towards the bulk of 4th division forces. Absolutely shocked, Sun staggered around his mobile command post, unable to issue any commands at all. He was, afterall, someone who just had to do things as planned beforehand and stick to schemes as closely as possible, to the tragedy of the troops under him.

Receiving reports of enemy assaults but no instructinos from the General, the 2nd Regiment, under Colonel Kails Voldmarch, hastily formed a shaky perimeter at a small hill in the middle of nowhere. Three battalions formed a triangular base, and the fourth lay at the centre to act as reserved. They've all but lost contact with the rest of the division, and moral was low, with sporadic firing going on constantly as small groups of enemy troops appeared and left behind lead souvenirs for unfortunate soldiers here and there. Voldmarch hated to think what would happen when the main Praetonian forces launched a major offensive.

But his troops were doing extremely well, relative to the rest of the Commonwealth forces there. The 6th Regiment, having spearheaded the assault, scattered at the sight of a prepared, attacking enemy. Its commanding officer was shot dead by an enemy sniper, and chaos erupted across the unit. The little that survived and did not made a run for Katsurato fell back to where the 1st Regiment was, some unfortunately shot dead as Praetonian soldiers and others adding to the frenzied, disorganized state the headquarters regiment was in.

Before long, General Sun's panicking staff ordered the regiment north, while the equally troubled regimental commander pushed south. soon the regiment split, with two battalions moved with the General in one direction and the other two moving with Colonel Meirayne Takejou in the other, abandonin all their heavy equipments in the centre. Which was rather unfortunate, given that the headquarters regiment was designed for fire support - that is, artillery were its basic equipments.

"Enemy fighters incoming, from the seas!" Lieutenant George Kosgavi whirled around, shouting for General Huang. "What should we do?"

Huang bit her nails nervously. All the Raptors airborne has fired away everything they have, and she's not prepared to use the air dominance fighters for petty dogfights.

"Very well..... Launch the remaining Raptors, and call everyone back."

With some hesitation, the Lieutenant relayed her orders down. In no time 9 of the 12 Raptors began taking off from the more or less prepared runways, but 3 were simply too damaged to fly.

Airborne within minutes, the Raptors closed in on their targets, and released their first volley of AIM-120 at 70km away. A second volley were released by 60km, and a final 9 were launched at a distance of 50km before they pulled back and raced home.

Crew: two, pilot and radar operator.
Wingspan: 14.5 m
Length overall: 20m
Height overall 4.5m
Weight empty, equipped : 11010kg / 27,500 kg
Engines: two Dalas X-GH engines both providing 13.000 KG of thrust.
Max speed : 3,110 kmph
Service ceiling : 30,000 m
Range: 7996 km
Radar: CAPTOR long range tracking radar.
Weapons: 1 M61A/A2 Vulcan 30mm cannon and 8 external mounts.

Version C: Ground Attack Aircraft.

Crew: one, pilot.
Wingspan: 13.5 m
Length overall: 18.5m
Height overall 4.5m
Weight empty, equipped : 9010kg / 29,500 kg
Engines: two Dalas X-GH engines both providing 13.000 KG of thrust.
Max speed : 2,160 kmph
Service ceiling : 26,000 m
Range: 3250 km
Radar: GRIFO fire control radar.
Weapons: 2 M61A/A2 Vulcan 30mm cannon, 14 external mounts and 2 internal mounts

This is the earlier version, and since its been upgraded with optical camouflage, antimissile systems(decoy launchers) ECM dome and the cannons have been housed in semi-sphere domes underneath the nose of the aircraft. Allowing the gun to aim itself while the pilot steers the aircraft in the general direction of his target. Both versions are VTOL and CC equipped and are highly manoeuvrable with the integrated combat flight systems allowing the pilot to steer the aircraft with his mind to some degree(turn left hand left makes the airplane go left, triggering middle finger fires cannon, etc.) However the airplane also comes with a standard stick and control system should the CFS ever fail. It also contains a small 20mm cannon on the back in a similar bubble as the main guns so it can fire at enemies closing in from behind(nasty surprise).

This aircraft will outmatch any aircraft built today and will pwn the JSF and the Raptor with two fingers up its nose.(I designed it to take out any RL aircraft, since most people use them, however against any other aircraft from NS its gona be a close call between how good the pilots are.)

IC:

Operation Market Garden

Steel looked over the map concerning the area around Arnhem, the holo map bleeped in response to 8th armour entering from the south over the main highway towards Arnhem. With the Praetorians already reaching Dumpsterdanian lines Steel sent his remaining men forward while keeping one battalion in reserve to guard their headquarters and artillery.

However, things where not ment to be and the DDF plans went astray…

As Field Marshal Talas ordered his lead units to secure Elden his orders where transmitted via the divisions new TACCOM system, the system fucked up and now there was an entire mechanised brigade charging through Elden and towards the bridge there without any sort of air or artillery support from 8th armour.
Talas realised his mistake to late, the brigade was already approaching the ramp to the bridge and Taiwanese forces could spring a deadly ambush at any second, reluctantly he ordered the rest of his units forward towards Huissen and catch up with the 14th mechanised brigade.

Steel cursed. “What the fuck is Talas doing?! We haven’t secured that bridge!” His aide franticly shrugged. “I don’t know sir!”
“Well get me Talas on the line damnit, otherwise where gona loose an entire brigade
here.”
The aide switched the radio on but it remained dead, only static came from it. “Sir…the radio is dead…I can’t contact 8th armour!”
Steel slammed his fist down on the table with the map, the image twisting and sizzling for a second. “Call up the artillery and fire whatever you have into Westervoort and Huissen!”
The aide took up the IFF radio, the new TACCOM system was only used to communicate between divisions and the older IFF radio’s still worked perfectly, he called up the artillery and gave coordinates to fire for all 30 guns split between both towns.

Above Arnhem

The interceptors fired their remaining batch of FAF missiles and switched on their afterburners to propel them forward to well over mach 4, their anti missile systems spewing flares and chaff as they closed into the enemy for close range dogfights.
The enemy missiles sliced into the interceptors before that could happen though and twenty of the where reduced to fiery balls as twenty-two others where damaged and turned back. As the interceptors hit the braking fans hard they began locking onto enemy fighters and preparing for a long and hard dogfight with inferior yet numerous other fighters.

Meanwhile the ground attack aircraft turned back to Eindhoven, the bridge they where gunning for was destroyed and their missiles systems where tracking well over 720 missiles heading for their targets. Whereas 500 where missiles designed to destroy tanks the other 220 where filled with area detonation munitions designed to kill and wound infantry. They would be guided by TACCOM and SPYSAT onto troop concentrations.
