OOC: War RPs with no rules?

I am fairly new to NS forums, and have only taken part in one RP to date (see HERE! (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=381581)) but I read a lot of the other threads.
I read much on the subject of godmoding, but is it as bad as it is cracked up to be? Yes, I see the trouble if people are trying to RP realistically, but if it is just for fun, why not allow it?
Would there be any interest in an RP where the only godmodes are nukes and invincible troops?

Uh, no. That's not an RP; that's a five minute LOLOMFGBBQ fest. Rules are in place for a reason; RPs need to be realistic or they simply don't work.

I'm going to respectfully disagree there. In fact, PIcaRDMPCia, you're flat out wrong.
A RP is exactly that: A Role Play. That's it. You play a role. Most people play one that follows the rules of war, physics, and generally human sensibilites.
But it doesn't have to. It could be anything you want. Anything at all. Sure, others may not want to join too much, but hey, if you can find someone else to RP with and they like it, tough cookies to everyone else. It's your RP- do something that you'll have fun doing.
Because there's only one true rule on NS- have fun with your RPs. Doesn't matter how you do it, just do it. I ,for example, don't see the pointo f space era tech. But many others do and have fun RPing with it. They went against the flow and made RPs with fantastic ships, futuristic weapons, and physics that we just can't comprehend. What's to stop you from doing what amounts to be the same thing?

That's not what I meant. If it was properly thought out, and RPed well, but with no rules as to technology or numbers, and was between people who agreed to the rules (or lack thereof), would it work?

Oh, you mean like that? In that case, I agree with Samtonia; it's perfectly capable. I wouldn't find it fun, but you might.

Okay. Now that that's cleared up, would anyone be interested in this kind of RP? (No tech/number limits)
I guess I should change the thread title now, huh?

Um, Sam, I'm going to have to disagree with you. Sorry. PIcaRDMPCia is right, dispite the unproffessional name.A RP is exactly that: A Role Play. That's it. You play a role. Most people play one that follows the rules of war, physics, and generally human sensibilites. That may have been what it was originally, but over the years NationStates has developed an unofficial set of rules. Follow it or don't be respected. But it doesn't have to. It could be anything you want. Anything at all. Sure, others may not want to join too much, but hey, if you can find someone else to RP with and they like it, tough cookies to everyone else. It's your RP- do something that you'll have fun doing.Yes, but then you'd be labeled a n00b and never get anyone else to even recognize your RP. The rules are what all NS RPers share in common. If you break them, you might as well be playing another game.Because there's only one true rule on NS- have fun with your RPs. Doesn't matter how you do it, just do it. I ,for example, don't see the pointo f space era tech. But many others do and have fun RPing with it. They went against the flow and made RPs with fantastic ships, futuristic weapons, and physics that we just can't comprehend. What's to stop you from doing what amounts to be the same thing?Yes, to have fun is the one true rule. However, if you use poor grammar and have invincible troops while I work harder and have good grammar and troops that fail, it just isn't plain right. Without a rulebook, everyone has their own universe and it doesn't quite become fun. Any RP that allows godmoding has, in time, turned out to be a n00kfest. Time speaks better than your argument.
[EDIT: Oh. I suppose that an RP like this could be done, but there needs to be one extra rule - no invicibility. Otherwise nobody would claim casualities.]

Unproffessional name? And that's supposed to mean...what, exactly? (I'm just curious, not annoyed or angry.)

I did mention that. And yes, I missed it in my last post. So. No limit on tech/numbers, no nukes, no invincibility. Otherwise, normal rules.
Any interest?

While it'd be nice to RP with you again, the numbers thing is a little iffy. Maybe if you establish the size of your armies at the beginning, and agree on it. Otherwise, people would just pull numbers out of a hat.

...the numbers thing is a little iffy...
It's an idea, okay? It's open to change. Personally, I like the idea of a war that has, say, scottish nutters (Celts) with spears charging into battle alongside powersuited aliens armed with plasma cannons.

.......scottish nutters.........
we (scottish people ) are not nutters. In medieval warfare what happened was the warriors would work them selves up by screaming and chanting to scare the enemies.

I think you run into too many problems if there are no rules at all for RP. Freeform RP has its merits when both people involved are looking for fair, realistic RPs, have great handles on damage assessment, and are looking to tell a story. The problem lies in people who go away from the ideal world that RPers strive for by trying to bend the rules of fairness to "win" or start to argue points about what is legal and what's not.
The only written rules of NationStates are 1) have fun and 2) don't flame. Outside of that are guidelines or conventions that have grown over time and have generally been held to make for better, more realistic RPs. There's no rule that states you must work out every detail of an RP ahead of time, but there should be a degree of cooperation that will prevent misunderstandings and outright hostility later on.
I wouldn't have fun with absolutely no limits to an RP because there are too many variables involved that can lead to confusion and misunderstanding. If that suits you and you want a break from a more structured RP, go right ahead. Just know that not everyone has the same RP mindset.
Personally I think It would be alittle confusing to have absolutly no rules.
But with the ristrictons of no nukes or invinsibility i think it would be fun. :)
If you do start a thread like that I will be glad to give it a try. :D

I said the Celts (Roman time), not Scots now.
New point I just thought of: No orbital bombardment. That would just be unfair to the Celts.

Unproffessional name? And that's supposed to mean...what, exactly? (I'm just curious, not annoyed or angry.)Forget it. It's just the half-caps half not. Everything I say comes out wrong...
Then a black BMW screeched around the corner . It was full of Gangsta! 50 cent was the driver. They opened fire and blew every single spear holding Celts away with Ak-47s. Then they drove off at a 100 miles an hour.
THIS WAS A DRIVE BY!!! :mp5: :mp5: :mp5: :mp5: :mp5: :mp5: :mp5: :mp5: :mp5:
