[Associated Press News Release]
President Neil McDouglas announced today in a press conference at the Colonial Congress that the Colonial Army has formed a new, 10 division strong Peacekeeping and Disaster Relief Corps.
Composed of 250,000 men and women of the Colonial Army, the Peacekeeping and Disaster Relief Corps is designed to function as a force that can be quickly transported to any corner of the globe, and immediately begin security, humanitarian and assistance operations in the aftermath of any disaster or conflict.
Five of the ten divisions included in the new corps were reassigned to it from the Army Airbourne Corps, with the other five divisions reassigned to it from the Infantry Corps. The airbourne divisions will retain thier air assets, including UH-60 Blackhawks, V-22 Ospreys, CH-47 Chinooks and AH-64 Apaches. All divisions will retain thier normal arms, vehicles and combat assets but will have much larger medical, logistical, JAG/legal and engineering attachments than other Army units of similar size. Units in the new corps will also be assigned large numbers of water purification units, electrical generation systems, infrastructure repair equipment and construction material.
The Colonial Army Peacekeeping and Disaster Relief Corps will complete its integration and will be ready for deployment within the next three weeks. Units of the Peacekeeping and Disaster Relief Corps are expecting to be at the forefront of any humanitarian or peacekeeping missions that the Federated Union of Democratic Colonies will undertake in the future.
