Trench Warfare (setup)

OOC:
'Historical' RP, in Dontgonearthere.
For those unfourtunate people who are uniformed, there was a large war in DGNT, started by elf-persecution. Lots of things happened, and the northern part of DGNT was glassified by a bunch of people.
So, since many people insist that these things be played out, and it could be quite fun.
So, heres the situation:
Most of DGNT has been resecured under Mr 47 (former leader, deposed by Monarchists), except for the northern portion of Al-Khali (Northwester province), which is securly held by Republican forces, who are well dug in, with a quite large and sophisticated defensive system.
47ist forces and their allies have dug in on the opposite side, waiting for additional reinforcements.
The trenches are HUGE. Most of the 'established' variety verge on twenty feet deep, lined with concrete, gun positions, and capable of housing huge amounts of troops. Both sides are constantly launching air raids, artilary strikes and so on and so forth. (Anybody play Iron Storm? Game sucked IMO, but the plot was cool :))
The Republicans also control a high-tech space-defence platform, meaning that orbital bombardment, dropships and any sort of frontline space-based support is pretty much out.
This is two years after the start of the war.
Since its hard to turn desert into no-mans land, both sides have been trying very hard, with air-drop mines, gas, and micronukes.
You have two choices.
Some of this only applies to people who were in the old RP.
Republicans: Most of the Elf-supporting nations are REALLY pissed at these people, considering they set off most of the elf-massacres, though they most likely have the support of Anti-Elf guys. Anyway, their overall intentiosn were good. Basicaly any freedom of whatever people should support these guys, or those intent on setting up their own govornment in DGNT. Keep in mind that they WILL lose, after having most of their remaining territory glassed.
47ists: Loyal forces of Mr 47, consist of everything outside that bit of Al-Khali. Any allies, Elf-supporters, whatever, will most likely join this side.
I will be giving priority to those who were in the Elf-Rp, since they have a good reason to be there.
Anybody looking for a good WWI-type RP set twenty bajillion years in the future, though, is welcome to join as well :)

Despite its being a nation that rescued 20% of the anti-anti elf population (the number included dwarves and humans as well), the United Republics of Tiburon will support the Republicans in this war. However, convinced that the anti-elf massacres were created not by a majority but rather by a minority that, through disinformation and fear, managed to incite the populace into action, we ask the Republicans that, after our victory, the main people who started the riots are to be extradited to Tiburonese custody.

Anyway, acceptable. Three more spots before I start.

Not without proper grammar you dont.
BTW, somebody to play AS the Republicans would be nice, since whenver I try to play both sides of an RP I end up stacking it, or screwing it up.

I could play as the Republicans, but I would probably have a slow posting rate as I am back at College tommorow from Christmas/New Years' Break. I do like descriptive RPing and would like to have a go at managing a trench war from the losing side, but the posting thing might be a problem for you? Any thoughts?

Do you think you can post at least once a day? It doesnt have to be a HUGE post, as long as you can get a response to everything in. I dont mind if you cant respond for a day or so, but if you think your not going to be able to post for long stretches, I would rather somebody else did it.
(EDIT: For whoever plays as the Republicans, this is a link to my storefront, this is what your going to be fighting with (mostly):

There ya go :P)
BTW, the RP will start out with ONLY the 47ists and the Republicans. Other sides will have to RP their arrival.
Since I cant upload (for some reason), Ill have to give a basic description:
DGNT is desert, the further North you go, the colder it gets. At this point its only a few degrees cooler than elsewhere, but up at Psuedopolis its like Alaska.
The area being fought over is about 250mi 'vertically' (North/south) and 1000mi 'horizontally' (east/west), the line varies a bit from place to place.
the Republican area is on the NOrthwest coast, so they have water on two sides, and two large ports (deepwater).
The territorial arrangement is basicaly a large rectangle
Most transport in DGNT is done via the monorails covering the country, traveling through the desert is VERY dangerous, the local wildlife, high temperatures, high-speed windstorms and other hazards can kill a human in a few hours, and get a large military convoy lost easily.
Any engine which requires a large intake is going to fry in a few minutes when the sand gets into it.
BTW, modern nations are welcome to join, obviosuly your going to be a bit outclassed by 'OMG teH uber-powerearmour' but since the FT nations arent going to be able to use spacecraft as an offensive item, you should be mostly OK.
Since this is trench warfare, expect LOTS of chemical warfare, nasty bioagents and so forth. I imagine lots of people are going to be prepared for this though.
Also, expect MASSIVE lossess, there WILL be chemical, biological, and nuclear warfare going on. Since theres no environment to ruin, you can go all out :)
Im writing the IC thread up now. Link when its done.

Oh yeah, I can do one post a day at least. :)
I'll familiarise myself with my weapons. :D Just to check, how many troops etc. the Republicans got left? Also, you got a map of your nation or the area involved? That way, I know what I'm dealing with when it comes to tactics and describing the area.

I should say theres maybe between 1 and 1.5 million loyal Republicans left who are willing to fight, though alot of them may be untrained or local militia. You can still do a few 'over the tops' :)
I should think maybe about half of those are tied up in the trenches now, the rest would be busy in cities.
Like I said in the last post, NS wont let me upload :(
The desc (I think) gives a pretty good idea of what your working with. If you have any questions, Ill try to answer them.

BTW, regarding offensive weaponry - do I get to choose what weapons I have, or do you have specifics/guidelines for what weapons the Reps have got left?

I could post the map on the IM...Ill put it under IC announcements (the one in the second group.
BTW, the dimensions for the battlfield are the other way around, its 'taller' than it is 'wide'.
EDIT:
I imagine the Republican troops are similarly equiped the the standard DGNT army, most likely they carry a GC-11, one PAAR of some sort, and a couple of grenades.
About 1/5 of the Infantry have powered armour, most of them would be in the trenches I think...

battlelines are from Kish in the North, to just east of Psuedopolis, to the G'oaway boarder.

Hmmm... Any chance I could play a 47ist soldier, or some such?

This isnt really a charecter RP, people dont last very long in trench warfare, its going to be huge amounts of guys popping each other at two hundred yards...
People are expendable, is the general approach.

Any chance that I could hop in as a "section" of either the republican or Royalist side? it's a sort of character RP, but it'll have lots of new characters, something fun to RP out, y'know? :)

I am also interested in taking the role of a low level commander, in charge of a small section of the forces.
If not, I can bring in a detachment of my own troops. If this is the case, exactly what limits are there? You said no spacecraft, but what about starfighters or dropships?
