Kaiser Alec Mannerheim resigned his position today. He made a very (and we mean very) brief statement on the matter.

"I've served the people of Sevaris for nine years, and, I feel it's time for a change. Perhaps my wife can do better. Also, I want to work on my PhD and write a few books, perhaps."

He meant that literally, it turns out. Yuna Mannerheim was sworn in as Sevaris's chief-of-state at 12:01 P.M. today.

Already, Kaiserine Yuna has proposed several bills to Parliament, including the following:

National Defence Act, 2005- The military will be cut to 25 million active personnel, same level of funding. This also includes the budget for the Ministry of Defence.

Political Freedoms Act, 2005- The Communist Party is hereby legalised, along with all other Socialist parties.

Energy Independence Act, 2005- By the year 2015, petroleum will no longer be used in Sevaris for energy/fuel.

Freedom from Fear Act, 2005- The State Security Directorate no longer has the power to detain persons for indefinite periods of time.

Medicare Act, 2005- A proposal to create a state-subisidized medical system for those who cannot afford health insurance.

Parliament has expressed mixed opinions on these new proposals. the National Front (formerly Falange Party) caucus has said they will fully support Yuna's proposals.

"We regard these most distressing developments from Sevaris as confirmation of our worst fears, they are engineering an eventual communist takeover by purging the internal security apparatus and the military, just like in South Africa in 1994 and in Rhodesia in early 1980. Our trade issues must be secured regardless of what happens. We will give you 72 hours to agree to enter into negotiations with us over the matter of Gibraltar, if not, we will declare war."

"Alice, there is nothing to be scared of. The Communists have very little popular support anyway- last time we checked, only 0.5 supported them- I only did it to be a bit more fair to the left. I can assure you that your trade routes are safe and secure- there is no need to give you Gibraltar."

"Fine, we shall stand down. But if you ever close Gibraltar or threaten to close it, to us our any of our allies or trading partners, we will seize it so fast, your heads will spin. Anyway, on another note, may your rule be fruitful and prosperous."

"Just don't do anything to provoke me, and you'll be fine. And, thanks for the support."
