Brenton Rivasi stood, hands in his pockets, staring out the 65th floor office window, upon the Port of Breningrad. From this view, he could see the massive Breningrad Shipyards, or at least the yards here in Breningrad. There were several more outside the city, and a scattered few in other cities around the Commonwealth. Breningrad Shipyards was the largest shipbuilding company in the Commonwealth, responsible for most of the contracts dealt by the Royal Navy. The position of his company was solid, there were many smaller shipyards, there had to be – the Commonwealth was a maritime nation with maritime power. However, the Commonwealth was preparing to move to a new ocean, the sea of space.

And Rivasi wanted his nation there, in the forefront. He had convinced the board and the majority of the shareholders to begin construction of the Breningrad Orbital Shipyards. As it stood, the government owned the only orbital shipyard for the Commonwealth, the Excelsior. However, it was also meant as an orbital command facility for the nascent space division of the Commonwealth armed forces, meaning that it would possibly be subject to targeting should the Commonwealth ever enter into a war with a space nation. With a private shipyard, the Commonwealth would be more likely to order further development of interstellar craft, and further purchases of interstellar craft themselves... possibly leading to future colonies and mining opportunities, all of which spelled profit to Rivasi. Breningrad Shipyards would be the most successful company in the Commonwealth if he could pull the company through this.

It would take several years to be fully operational, and the company would have to first invest in a set of launch accelerators, but it could surely be accomplished. In fact, he had already contacted the government about a new design, one that would test a theory for FTL travel. But that would be decades down the line. But decades down the line, Breningrad Shipyards would be the most powerful corporation in the Commonwealth.

The room glowed in the hidden track lighting and the bulbs of the media cameras and the lights assisting the media video recorders. The white room was wrapped in a light brown wood trim, the top two-thirds filled with pictures of streamlined warships cutting through calm and warm-looking Pacific waters. Others held copies of awards lauded upon certain ships, prominent among them the HMS Breningrad. The front of the room, where the cameras were pointing, featured a glass stand – unnoticeable to the cameras was the small text on the transparent display attached to the stand.

The short, but thin man was dressed pristinely in a pressed black suit, black shirt and a red tie. His thin wire-frame glasses rested atop his nose, and he smiled his broad white smile flashing his perfect teeth. “Ladies and gentlemen, I come before you today to announce the further expansion of the Breningrad Shipyards Corporation. Having secured a deal with SMDI Naval Yards to jointly design and build a new class of trimaran supercarriers, some of the dockyards at the ports of Breningrad, Artega, and Port Royal are going to be upgraded to accommodate the construction of ships up to the length of 1200 meters and a beam of 500. Such a massive undertaking requires a massive infusion of capital which we are receiving from the Commonwealth government in an exchange for a 20-year contract to be the primary builder of the nation’s aircraft carriers and other potential large-displacement ships such as super-dreadnaughts.”

Shortly after the announcement, the national exchange witnessed a surge in the value of Breningrad Shipyards (BSC), and back in his office, CEO Brenton Rivasi smiled in his dapper black suit. His company continued to grow and expand. He couldn’t be any happier
