Incident on the High Seas [attn: RWC]
[ ooc: OOC thread located here: http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=388521 ]
“VAMPIRE INBOUND – bearing 0-8-0.”
“Activate defence systems – come to course 225 – flank speed.”
“Aye Sir. Anti air and point defences online. Coming to 2-2-5.”
“Okay – who the hell is shooting at us – radar, you got anything?”
“Aye Sir – distant contact – but....”
“Spit it out Son.”
“Sir – it looks like a freighter – not a warship.”
“Alright,” said the Captain, “Maybe it’s a renegade. Light her up and warm up the Sunburns.”
“Sir,” interrupted the radar operator, “Vampire 30 seconds out.”
The Captain paused and watched as the ships computer managed the defence – lurching as two SeaSparrow missiles burst from their canisters.
“BINGO,” cried the weapons systems officer as the radar display flashed white with the successful intercept.
“Alright,” said the Captain, “Launch on that surface contact.”
“Aye Sir,” said the weapons officer, as he hit the launch code.
Immediately a Sunburn anti-ship missile burst from its hold below the deck, its first stage solid rocket booster pushing it straight up from the ship before it arched back towards the surface of the ocean and accelerated to Mach 3.
“Alright folks – that’s enough – lets end this exercise.”
“Aye Sir,” replied the XO. “Weapons – activate self-destruct on that missile.”
“Aye Sir. Auto destruct initiated.”
There was a slight pause as everyone in the CIC waited for the W/O to report the missile detonation.
“Do we have a problem?” asked the Captain.
“Sir – the missile should have aborted…but its still on course to the target.”
“Shit – hail that ship – notify them they have an inbound, armed missile and should clear the decks.”
“No time Sir – impact in 5 seconds.”
The bridge crew held their collective breath as the radar tracked the missile right into the side of the defenceless cargo ship – a ship that was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“Comm-Ops – get me Wolfish Defence Command. Flash traffic.”
“Aye Sir.”
“XO – get Search and Rescue in the air – set a course for that ship. We’re now in rescue alert mode.

Let me know.
The massive cargo ship was clearly listing after being struck by the 100-plus kilogram warhead on the Sunburn anti-ship missile.
The helicopter from the frigate moved in slowly – trying to avoid the billowing smoke from the port side of the ship while conducting its initial damage assessment.
“This is Rescue 1 to Frigate Valour – damage to the ship is extensive – listing at about 15 degrees to port – the impact is mid ship just above the waterline. We have a life raft in the water, drifting about 1 km south-southwest….hold on….Valour we have survivors on the main deck housing – counting 8 people – possibly more I can’t get an accurate count with the smoke – I’d like permission to lower a Rescue Diver onto the deck. Over.”
“This is Valour – standby Rescue 1.”
On board the ship the Captain was talking on the encrypted frequency with Wolfish Defense Command headquarters – 3rd Fleet, Sirik Island about the incident and next steps.
“Yes Sir – I do understand that this is a significant cluster f**k. Yes Sir – I do understand that there will be an investigation…Sir – we’re not sure yet if there are survivors. We have a helo on route now.”
He hung the headset back up on its hook and wiped the sweat from his forehead and turned to his XO.
“This isn’t going to go well for us.”
“Umm – permission to speak freely Sir,” said the XO.
“Always.”
“Sir – if there were fewer witnesses – particularly victims – wouldn’t the investigation be more likely to go our way?”
The Captain paused to soak in the absolute magnitude of what he was hearing. He sat heavily in the chair and put his hands to his head…in barely more than a whisper he said to his XO, “God damn it man – that’d be murder…”
“Captain, with all due respect – these barbarians are from a Right-wing collective nation – what do you think they’ll say in front of a Wolfish Military tribunal about our conduct…”
“Your right, your right,” replied the Captain. He stood up and moved to the radar image – flipping the communication system to the helicopters frequency...
“RESCUE 1 – radar track – inbound vampire on your vector. Return fire on the life-raft bearing 1-9-0…repeat – take out that boat they’ve launched a Stinger.”
“Valour – this is Rescue 1 going weapons free…I…I don’t have a track on the inbound – launching chaff…targeting…got it…firing now, now, now. Hellfires away. HIT. The liferaft is hit Sir.”
“RESCUE 1 – good work – get back to the Valour – we’ll reassess the situation,” replied the Captain, turning to look at the XO… “Sink that cargo ship commander.”
“Aye Sir – Weapons – I want two more Sunburns in the side of that ship – designate it Hostile Alfa.”
“Aye Sir – Target Hostile Alfa – weapons are free – launching now.”
The ship lurched again as two Sunburn missiles burst from their containers in a shower of flame and smoke – there target lay only a dozen seconds away at Mach 3 – which they found without issue.
“Sir,” called the Weapons officer, “Showing two clean hits – secondary explosions now.
The Sonar operator piped in, “Captain – I’ve got multiple underwater explosions – her engine room must have taken one – She’s going down fast…tracking…tracking…her engines cut out – hull popping – she’s submerged and collapsing.
The Captain turned to the XO and said quietly, “Launch the second helo – I want a search and destroy team on it – sniper rifles – they need to clean up the area and make sure no survivors tell their side. Make sure you put the “right” men on that mission.”
“Aye Captain – not a problem.”
The Captain then turned to the radio operator – “Comm – Flash Traffic to Wolfish Defense Command – message – have taken fire while on rescue operations. Defensive measures successful. No enemy survivors. Request rendezvous with replenishment ship and oiler.”
“Sending now Captain.”

A message came into Austian HQ, immidetly it was forwarded to the Emporer himself. It said that a ship, with Austian citizens aboard had been torpedoed, by a ship with Wolfish markings. The Emporer looked at his aide, Prince Matt. "Get a message to Prince William, I want him up here in a ASAP. Send a message to our allies, and Wolfish find out what the hells going on. If they've really killed one of my people, it's a act of war."

Be advised – an incident involving a Wolfish warship and a cargo ship has transpired. The exact events are, at this point, unknown. An investigative team from Wolfish is heading to the frigate.
What we do know at this point is that a cargo ship was hit by a Wolfish anti-ship missile.
Search and Rescue operations were launched, but were aborted when the helicopter came under fire from the freighter.
A second set of missiles were launched and the cargo ship was sunk.
At this point the Wolfish government has no information about survivors or their countries of origin.
End.

Aust has knowlage from transmissions from the Austians aboard the freighter that you fied upon them with no waning. it was a peacful ship. Our information points to this being a delibret act. Thus we must warn you that should we not recive both a good explanation, an apology and compensation amounting to at least 40,000 honour pounds for those famillys who lost relatives, a state of war will exist between our countrys.
Do not let this happen.
Aust - you will do well to tone down your threats. As you were told an investigation is underway. We have provided you with all confirmed information that we have at this point. Your excessive threats will do nothing to resolve this situation.
And I will remind you that a Wolfish Rescue helo came under fire from that cargo ship.
As stated, an investigation is underway - you will be informed of the results as soon as we have them.
The investigation team touched down on board the frigate 10 hours following the sinking of the cargo ship.
It didn’t take them long to review the radar, sonar take, the flight recorders on Rescue 1 and crew statements for them to realize what was going on.
“Captain,” said the lead investigator, “You willingly and knowingly sunk a unarmed cargo vessel to cover up an accident – is that basically correct.”
“Sir,” replied the Captain, “the intent was never to cause harm…I deeply regret the whole incident. But, at the time, I felt that I had no other option.”
“You may have just put us into a war…Captain, under the authority of Wolfish Defense Command, I am placing you under arrest for the sinking of the cargo ship, and its life raft. Further, you are immediately relieved of all command duties, and will await trial in a detention facility. Do you understand?”
“I do.”
“Private,” said the investigator, “Take the Captain into custody and escort him to the flight deck for immediate transport to the carrier group Remus.”
“Aye Sir.”
Once the Captain and the Private left the small room the investigative team sat down to figure out how they would explain away the actions of a very awkward and politically sensitive situation…
“Let’s be clear – the Captain was an idiot – the guy couldn’t have hid a needle in a haystack…but we have…substantially more resources at our disposal.”
“Go on,” said the lead investigator.
“Well, we know that Aust received a transmission…we need to counter that story. We need to show that – at the very least – the second missile volley was justified…for…self-defense.
We can easily doctor up some satellite images that show a cargo ship loaded with blackmarket weapons on board – we show radar tapes of a stinger launch – and boom – the return fire from the frigate is justifiable.”
“Do it.”

Be advised, our investigation team has learned the following:
1. A malfunctioning missile, launched by our frigate, did impact a cargo vessel.
2. The identity of the cargo ship is still unknown, however, we have obtained satellite images that demonstrate the ship was armed, and loaded with blackmarket weapons.
3. We have confirmed that, in violation of international law, the cargo vessel did fire a missile at a Rescue helicopter.
4. In self defense both the helo and the frigate returned fire, sinking the cargo ship. There were no survivors.
Wolfish Defense Command and the Government of Wolfish deeply regret this incident. However, the actions that followed the first, accidental missile strike are clearly justifiable – our official ruling is that the crew acted purely in self defense.
We now consider this matter closed.

Dumpsterdam Colonial Command somehow does not believe the statement the goverment of Wolfish gave out.
If Wolfish ships realy acted in defence then your goverment will let a neutral investigation take place to determine that, denying this would seem rather...suspiscious woudn't it?
We will also track down each of our freighters, should you have sunk one of our ships then you may pray to god that that ship was not carrying a Euroslavian flag at the time of the attack.
DAF Colonial Command, Aruba
OoC: Most of our merchant fleet has been tranferd to Euroslavian registries, also most of them are armed with IPS grade weaponry.
Dumpsterdam - to this point no one has requested a international investigation. Our position is that this matter is closed - but it some nation or group of nations decided to hold their own investigation, they'd be free to do so, given the sunk ship is in international waters (by our readings in 2000 feet of water). We would even be willing to share our data with you should you request it.
Aust - We have likewise expelled all Austian citizens from Wolfish, including your Ambassador and staff. Further, as a state of war now exists (by your declaration) all Aust shipping will be considered to be hostile forces providing aid and comfort to our enemy and will be sunk, unless proven that it is carrying only food or medical supplies.

The rescue vessles of the 7th fleet has been dispatched towards the location of the wreck alongside the 886th Escort Group from Aruba and will carry out an independant investigation.
The freighter "Sunless" has been reported missing in the area where the attack took place and we have had no contact with the ship as of yet, it was currently flying Euroslavian flag and we presume the entire crew, Austians, Dumpsterdanians and Euroslavians are dead.
We request that Wolfish vessles do not hamper or attempt to sabotage our investigation and share any evidence that they may have found already.

Strategic Command - Amsterdam
The Guffingfordii-Panooly administration has not heard a plausible explanation for this very annoying and perhaps warmongering event. However, since we cannot prove the opposite of said explanation of Wolfish regarding this we will send out a diving expedition of our own on behalf of the RWC to fully investigate the wreckage. If there are weapons found - perhaps we will then we will share it with the world. While we seek no conflict with Wolfish at this moment we would like to know the truth behind this incident.
OOC: What was the name of that ship and did it enter your national waters?
Totally occ: I basically just made up an incident where a wargame went wrong, sunk a "RWC" cargo ship - and then the Wolfish Military tries to cover it up. It was in international waters.
Unfortunately Wolfish's 3rd navy is currently conducting wargames in the area where the cargo ship sunk. I suggest that you plan your recovery operations and investigation to begin in one months time. By then we should have our warships out of the area.

The 3rd Wolfish Navy [ http://www.freewebs.com/wolfish/wolfishforces.htm ] began splitting into two distinct forces - Blue and Red - the plan was simple - they would practice fleet engagements in a live-fire excercise.
A Wolfish Free Press story on the excercise stated that the wargames were merely an excuse to test fire the new Wolfish nuclear depth charge. An official source with Wolfish Defense Command neither denied nor confirmed the existance of such a weapon - but said that if such a depth charge were used, it would likely "strip the ocean clear of whatever might be down there."

Colonial Command had just about enough of Wolfish arrogance by now, they would employ harsh measures should anything happen to the wreck and certainly if it employed detonating nukes underwater. Councillor Damocales had cleared the usage of EMP strikes from orbit, Airmarshal DeMarcus was deploying AWAC's to the border of the exercise area while the battleship Longsword made its way into the exercise area.
Aboard the DRN Longsword
"Prepare first message, warn the Wolfish fleet and lock on the orbital barrages, target carriers and battleships." Captain Marcus strode around the bridge of the new battleship, new leather on the chair and all new IPS equipment. "Sir, message sent to Wolfish Fleet." A print-out appeared on the Holo Map in the centre of the bridge.
URGENT MESSAGE TO WOLFISH FLEET
You are now in a life-fire exercise of the Royal Dumpsterdanian Navy, leave immediately or we will not be able to guarantee your safety.
You have been warned, do not hamper us.

In response to this situation, the government of Intelligent Neighbors has decided to send a long range Sharkfin plane to the scene. It will land in the sea near the wreak and will record what it sees. The plane is unarmed and poses no threat. The wreak is in international waters, and so any damage caused by the Wolfish fleet will be deemed an act of war.
OOC: I don't want to actually fight in any war that may ensue, I just want my own record of what happened in the crash.
The wreak is in international waters, and so any damage caused by the Wolfish fleet will be deemed an act of war.
Incorrect - you have been warned that the Wolfish 3rd Navy is conducting live-fire excercises in the area, and thus any damage to the aircraft will be deemed an act of stupidity on the part of your military leadership.

Indeed, though we do not balive that the sinking of shipping is in anyway honourable, and we shall not carry out such exacises, we will fight you at sea should we have to.
-----------
The Emporer sat on the goldon throne and stared at his brother, Prince William. "I do not balive that they will attack. They are not that stupid." William said, "I know that they won't want to hit any allied shipping, I do surgest emporer that we send some of our new B-16 missiles, and B-12 EMP missiles at there navel bases."
"We cannot risk any civillian casultys, civillians are just a innocent party. It would not be hnourable to attack them there."
"yes, Emporer."
The Emporers slow calculating mind thought about the financial cost of firing the missiles, the honour cost and the effectivness, but with a IQ of over 200 as he had, it didn't take long.
"Fire 50 B-16's and 50 B-12's at the enermys base. And move Hammer Head over there nation."

OOC: I would have fired them at the largest base with the least chance of civillian casultys. So I would have fired them at the island.
2) Specs, I'll dig them up tomorrow, I'm to tired to dig them up tonight, presume there the normal kind of tomahawk kind of missile, normal payload, not to big and not to little, I'll dig up the specs for HammerHead to.

Message to Dumpsterdam,
From Wolfish Defense Command
We find your interest in this matter most odd, give your recent surrender to the Silver Turtles. Do you offer terms of surrender so casually that you violate those terms before the ink is dry on the document? Allow me to refresh your memory...
The Empire of Dumpsterdam:
The following demands are made by the Empire :
1 We are surrendering to the nation of the Silver Turtle, no other nation will be allowed to occupy any part of the Dumpsterdanian isles.
2 Farmina will be left alone, no further charges or acts of war will be carried out against the government or its people especially by the nation of Crazed Marines.
3 The Coalition recognises the independence of Ramerias and Colonial holdings in the Caribbean if they did not do so before.
4 The Dumpsterdanian population will not be harmed in any way shape or form, nor will the nation be stripped of resources; natural, money or in man-power.
[b]5 Dumpsterdam will not deliver any forces or supplies for combat off the isles, remaining DAF regulars are solely there for the defence of the people.
6 Any member of the DAF may choose to lay down his current function at the inset of this surrender and return to civilian life without reprisal.
Violation of any of these points during the 30 year occupation will result in resistance or open revolt against occupying forces, we ask little in return for keeping the people quiet.
Perhaps our next message should be sent directly to your imperial masters in Silver Turtles.
ooc: Response to the Aust missiles
ic: 200 km South of Wolfhair Island, Wolfish
http://www.freewebs.com/wolfish/W%20Map.gif
The Coastal Patrol Vessel Maxwell, a 300 foot cutter first picked up the contacts on radar.
“Commander – new contact – inbound – heading…due north…on course for Wolfhair Island Sir.”
“Identify,” replied the young officer.
“100 tracks…Speed…880 kph…current range 250 km…likely a missile barrage…too small for bombers.”
“Alright – GENERAL QUARTERS – ALL HANDS TO BATTLESTATIONS – Communications – send out FLASH TRAFFIC with our radar feed – Weapons – warmed up the defensive screen.”
Shouts of “Aye Commander” echoed through the CIC as the red lights flicked on, replacing the greenish-white glow of the fluorescents, and the Commander continued to bark orders to his crew.
Within 15 seconds the upper deck was cleared – all hatches firmly closed – as the first six SM-2s leapt from their launchers to intercept the invading missiles.
“BINGO ONE,” cried the radar operator watched the first successful intercept. “BINGO TWO.”
The Commander watched as the missiles continued to close on the ship, “Switch to SeaSparrows – warm up the Phalanx.”
“AYE,” yelled the over excited Weapons Officer. “FIRING!”
Six more missiles left the ship – the shorter range SeaSparrow missile had a great success rate – but the ship was limited by its launch speed – six missile out, then 15 minutes to reload.
“BINGO 8!” reported Radar as the enemy missiles swept directly over the ship – the sound of Phalanx firing drowned out everything but a person’s own thoughts.
“BINGO 12!”
The missiles quickly moved beyond the range of the Maxwell, but the warning had been passed on…and now other ships within range would add their fire – trying to cut the number of missiles that would impact Wolfhair base.
Wolfhair Island Naval Base, Wolfish
The Alert warning from the Maxwell, updated from 3 other surface ships in the region had given the base time to sound the alarm and secure high-value targets, notably the air wing located just up from the harbour.
On the shoreline, missile crews were waiting anxiously for the incoming threat to materialize.
The first to get their shot would be the Patriot batteries – specifically the extended range PAC-2s – the second line would be the HAWK defense screen with a range of 40 km, then the PAC-3s with a range of 15 km…after that it would be good old fashioned anti-air guns trying to knock the missiles off course.
“How many missile left son?” as Admiral Hallsey, Supreme Commander, Wolfish Naval Forces.
“Sir – I count 65 missiles inbound. The Coastal Defense Forces have knocked out 35.”
The Admiral struck the match and put it to his pipe…65 missiles inbound on one base…there would be bloodshed today he had no doubt.
“Sir,” called the radar operator, “PAC 2s are firing.”
The PAC 2s were located in sunken bunkers – across the low hills making up most of the island. But, like the ships, they would run out of ammo before they ran out of inbound enemy missiles.
The exhausted their stores – and the enemy missiles surged forward. The HAWKs began to launch – and more enemy missiles fell – then the PAC 3s – but they kept coming.
Indirect fire went up into the sky from a thousand guns – even from the ships in the dry docks – but eventually everyone knew the missiles would hit.
Of the original hundred Aust missiles, 35 made it to Wolfhair Island through one of the most advanced anti-air systems in the world.
The first missile struck the main east-west runway – scattering a thousand cluster bombs, pockmarking the entire length of the strip.
The second struck a fuel depot – sending a mushroom cloud of burning jet fuel a thousand feet into the sky.
Five missiles struck ships in the harbour – blowing holes though armour – and shredding men and women like soft cheese.
Ten missiles targeted the command centre – but, its multi-staged hardened bunker held firm.
The missiles continued.
One, likely partially damaged by anti-air guns, veered off course and headed for the town on the west coast of the island – it struck a housing complex, starting fires and killing at least 20 civilians.
Another ten missiles took out radar stations, and power distribution lines.
The final group struck into the barracks and mess halls of the stationed troops – the majority, luckily, being at battle-stations and not in their rooms.

Message to Dumpsterdam,
From Wolfish Defense Command
We find your interest in this matter most odd, give your recent surrender to the Silver Turtles. Do you offer terms of surrender so casually that you violate those terms before the ink is dry on the document? Allow me to refresh your memory...
[b]Perhaps our next message should be sent directly to your imperial masters in Silver Turtles.
Dumpsterdam Colonial Command and forces stationed there are not under TST sway, the goverment has decided to set up base in the Netherlands Antilles and will continue to actively participate in the worlds events with any forces that have left the Dumpsterdanian Isles or that where currently not based there.
Colonial Command retains almost one fourth of the Dumpsterdanian Navy and around two million men scatterd over the globe. So do not speak to me like TST is my master, they are not and will never be.

Sirs,
Having recently come to power, I have not had the honour of speaking with you before. However, I will honour my fathers alliance with you through the New World Order, and offer you assistance. My commanders have informed me of a massive situation developing between yourselves, Dumpsterdam, and their Austian lapdogs. With the detection of several launches, presumably headed your way, I am now willing to provide you with McLeodian assistance in this confrontation.

Sirs,
As you know the tactical situation is still playing itself out. There are several wildcards still in the deck.
At this point a great contribution would be to re-locate navy forces to intercept supply shipments to and from Dumpsterdam's nation in the Antilles.
By disrupting their sea trade, including merchant vessels, we will triumph.

Incorrect - you have been warned that the Wolfish 3rd Navy is conducting live-fire excercises in the area, and thus any damage to the aircraft will be deemed an act of stupidity on the part of your military leadership.
So be it. Our satellites will be watching our Civilian plane carefully, and any deliberate damage done to the plane will be noted. If the plane is damaged by 'accident' when you are conducting excersizes, and it is evident that you knew that our plane was in the area, then it will be considered an act of war.
We wish to remain neutral in this matter, and would just like to confirm the deaths of some of our civilians on board the vessel.
OOC: I really do not want a part in this war, so please let us confirm our dead and we'll be on our way. I am busy with other conflicts ATM. :(

Sir,
I agree with your suggestion entirely. I have issued the Admiralty with their orders, and will have them ready a task force for exactly this purpose. I will also hold further task forces in reserve in a handful of positions throughout the gobe ready to support Wolfish assets as and when support is needed.
Furthermore, MAFCC SpecOps has been alerted, and all MAF assets throughout the globe are on a heightened state of alert, ready for further actions against any aggressors identified as a threat to Wolfish or her allies, including ourselves.

<United Salvage & Shipping vessel USAS Jeriboam, 375 miles east of Antilles islands>
The Jeriboam was an old container ship, registered as a civilian merchant ship. Her superstructure was painted the traditional white with a dark blue band, distinctive markings of the US&S vessels travelling throughout the word. Her deck was covered in big forty-foot containers, stacked four high above deck, and a further eight deep below deck. Her manifest listed her as carrying various consumer goods throughout the world, ranging from washing machines to clothing, from televisions to coffee.
Secretly, however, she was one of many vessels part-owned by the MAFCC. Her lower hull contained small twenty-man submarines, armed with torpedos and two Wolverine-N anti-shipping cruise missiles. The inner block of containers held multiple VLS cells, turning an innocent looking, beaten up old cargo ship into a dangerous ship of war. In one salvo, she could devastate large ports and docks, before strategically placed charges would destroy the ship as her crew escaped via the minisubs. Designed solely for the purpose of first strikes against hostile ports on the very outbreak of hostilities, the Jeriboam and her sister ships were lethal weapons of war, and could be sailed under the noses of many governments without their knowledge.
OOC: In other words, I have several arsenal ships placed throughout the world, disguised as cargo ships. They carry about 400 conventionally armed missiles, and are one-use weapons designed to disrupt enemy shipping early on in the war. All vessels are civilian registered, and registered in countries throughout the world.

OoC: The weapon platforms fall within MT, their horribly inaccurate and deliver small pay-loads so its kinda hard to hit anything at all.
Basicly where here to get the freighter and to get out. Also, I'd find it quite strange if the ship was sunk directly in the centre of your exercise area.
IC:
The Longsword entered the area where the Wolfish 3rd fleet was active, its two escorting Heavy Cruisers followed suit as they proceeded to the area where the Sunless had been attacked and sunk. The modified LPD behind the battleship would raise the freighter and take it back to Aruba, meanwhile the ECM suits on the Longsword kicked into action as its main guns and Lance missile systems awoke, activated by the crew.

<Bridge of the MSNV Intrepid, Ocean class super-carrier>
The huge ship rolled gently in the Atlantic squall, spray coating the flight deck in a fine layer of water. Flight operations would be difficult in this weather, but by no means impossible. Sea Lord James Hilton, commander of the Royal Navy, stood with his feet spread at shoulder width, hands behind his back. Dark eyes scanned the horizon under the peak of his Admiralty cap, watching for trouble. Of course, with the task force arrayed around this ship, if he could see trouble, there was a hell of a problem somewhere. The Intrepid was just one of four Ocean class super-carriers in this Task Force, built up of four Carrier Battle Groups, two Combat Patrol Groups, and two Submarine Combat Patrol Groups.
Their mission was to establish a naval blockade of the Antilles islands, to cripple the Dumpsterdamian Navy and prevent any trade goods entering or leaving the island. Should further difficulties arise, and the Task Force come into danger, more forces were en route, and Hilton was fully authorised to use any weapon at his disposal to protect his ships. That included the Jeriboam, almost five hundred miles to his west. The time for war was near, and the Sea Lord was ready.
“Put one across their bow.”
“Aye Sir. Firing.”
The main guns on the battleship Forsaken roared to life – lifting the 2,700 lbs projectile on its trajectory over the bow of the Longsword.
The sixteen inch shell hit the water with a thunderous cloud of spray, 200 yards from the opposing ship.
“Repeat the warning Mister.”
“Aye Captain,” he said, keying the radio, “Dumpsterdam vessels – you are in violation of Wolfish Fleet perimeters. Withdraw immediately.”

The Sharkfin seaplane flew high above the waves, the 7 man team on board looking down, watching for any sign of the Wolfish fleet. All of a sudden, small dark shapes appeared on the horizon, and soon they were visible as warships. As the plane neared, the Wolfish flag became visible on the ships, and the plane began to circle near the outer ships. It broadcast this message:
Attention Wolfish fleet, we are a civilian team from Intelligent Neighbors, here to assist in the recovery of our deceased. We are unarmed and pose no threat, we request permission to fly above your fleet as it is in international waters and you hold no claim over the sea here.

The Longsword was showerd with water and shredded pieces of fish as a salvo from the main guns returned the favour to the Forsaken.
A good 160 foot away from its bow four 20' inch shells slammed into the water and radio contact was established.
"Wolfish fleet, you are purposfully denying access to the wreck of the freighter Sunless. We are here to salvage it and retrieve the bodies of our countrymen and allies, should you have any sort of honour dear captain you will cease hindering us and allow us the twenty-two houres we need for the operation. Use of force will result in usual of whatever means nesesary to retrieve the freighter."
As soon as the message was sent the battleship activated all its eight ECM suits and its escorts deployed depthcharges with noisemakers as the LPD began launching its underwater Rovers, but they where not close enough to reach the wreck yet.

The Jeriboam was now less than four hours sail from the Antilles, travellingat a little over fifteen knots. Her crew were busy on deck, making themselves visually obvious to any watchers. Then, a klaxon sounded, and the crews changed over, as they did every six hours. Those that had been on the deck, now unseen, rushed down to the first of the two minisubs, and were released into the ocean to attempt to map out any minefields before the arrival of the Task Force.
The freighter continued, taking latest targetting information from a NIRTSSAT overhead. In an hour, she would be at the maximum range for launching her payload. But the Captain wanted to get closer, nearer to Aruba, where he could scuttle the ship and hopefully block exit from the harbour for a few days.
Message to Intelligent Neighbors seaplane.
From: Wolfish Fleet Command, 3rd Navy
You are in immediate danger. You are operating in airspace restricted by the presence of our fleet, as per recognized international practice.
Withdraw from the area immediately or you will be shot down.
There will be no further warning.
CIC, Forsaken
“Report to Fleet Admiral Bangs that are warning shot has been answered with return fire.”
“Aye.”
CIC Calico Command Ship
“Admiral – message from the Forsaken – warning shots offered by Dumpsterdam in response to our warnings.”
“Very Well. Signal the Fleet. Operation Toll Road commences.”
“Aye Admiral.”
Across the 3rd Navy fleets in the area klaxons sounded as hardened forces sprinted to their battle stations.
On board the carrier Essex, a second Combat Air Patrol was launched, supplementing the four F35s already in flight.
On the Forsaken (already at battle stations) the crew reloaded the main guns and calibrated range from the laser system on the top mast.
“READING!” called the XO.
“BEARING 1-7-5. RANGE 8-0-4-6 metres. HEADING 2-0-2.”
“FIRE”.
The first salvo of the sea war exploded from the guns – three armour piercing 16-inch rounds arched towards the Longsword.
“Second Turret firing Sir.”
The ship rocked as the second round of three rounds followed the first less than a second apart, while eight kilometers east of the Forsaken the guided missile frigate Lax took aim.
Guide Missile Frigate Lax
“Fire when ready Weaps.”
“Aye Lieutenant. Firing now.”
Off the bow the rails pivoted as the command to launch transferred to the systems processor – first igniting then releasing the Sunburn anti-ship missiles from the launcher.
One at a time the missiles shot off the deck, quickly accelerating to Mach 3, and dropping to just a dozen feet over the waves.
Six missiles flew well below the radar horizon towards the Longsword.
SeaWolf pack, 300 feet deep, 7 km south of Longsword
The four attack subs could hear the clamor above at the first salvos were fired by the battleship…the approached slowly – waiting for their chance.
“Sir – enemy has deployed noise maker depth-charges.”
“Very good,” said the Captain. “Confirm targeting coordinates are set.”
“Coordinates set Sir.”
“Flood torpedo tubes 1 and 2….open outer doors.”
“Doors are open Sir.”
“Fire 1.”
“Torpedo is away.”
“Fire 2.”
“Firing – torpedo is away.”
With each sub firing 2 “fish” the chances were good that the target would sustain some damage – the decoys would be a problem, as the torpedoes were programmed to detonate 70 feet below the surface at a specific location…with each fish targeting a different spot along the likely course of a battleship under fire.
With their portion of the mission complete – the subs withdrew at a maximum 7 knots.

Aboard the Longsword.
"Hold battlestations! Prepare for intercept, retaliation and withdrawl!"
On the bridge the shutters where closed, plasma screens revealed the outside as the crew worked on coordinating the attack with the cruisers.
"Sir, radar indicates two waves of three shells incoming, spysat reveals missile launches from a cruiser nearby, the Testudo CIWS are tracking them with laser guidance assistance from our spysats."
"Perfect, have our escorts target the missiles and we will target the shells."
"Sir, our own eight Testudo's will track the shells, the cruisers both have three and the LDP carries two, I don't know our success rate but it will be a close call."
As the enemy attack was detected the entire taskforce started to turn away from the Wolfish fleet with the LPD taking the point to get as far away as sonar on all ships warned of incoming torpedoes
"Sir, there seems to be some sort of torpedo attack, five kilometers and closing!"
"Deploy decoys, twenty-four noise makers in a grid patron facing the torpedoes, lets hope our towed dixie decoys have some sort of effect."
Retaliation
The main guns of the Longsword turned, the target was painted with several lasers from orbit and would allow some good accurate shots. As all twelve 20' ETC main guns fired at the Forsaken dozens of VLS cells bursted open on the Longsword to reveal eight much feared Halberd anti-battleship missiles also headed at the same target.
Aboard the Ticonderoga's the same thing was happening; VLS cells and launchers systems went into overdrive as they both launched two Halberds at the Forsaken and four Lance anti-shipping missles at the Lax.

"Oranjestad Harbour patrol. This is the cargo vessel Jeriboam requesting a pilot to guide us into the harbour." reported the Jeriboam's Captain. He stood, looking into the mouth of the harbour ahead of his ship. If he could make it into the narrowest point before detonating the charges, the ship and her cargo would block exit of any deep draft ships for some time. Not to mention kicking up enough silt and sonar signatures to cover the escape of the minisub into international waters again.
Around him, crew members began a quick search of the ship, ensuring it was free of anything incriminating. Papers, books, guns, disks, and paltop computers were all stuffed into burn bags and thrown into the machine shops furnace, burning them, leaving no trace. The ship slowed to a gradual halt, taking one last fix on targets from the NIRTSSATs before destroying her satellite data-link as well.

A message was relayed back to the Jeriboam.
"This is Oranjestad Harbour Controll, stand by while we free up a pilot to guide you through the minefield. You will maintain your current position."
A good hour later an armed Lynx helicopter made its way towards the Jeriboam, on its side where the markings of the DAF and the two side doors where slid open to reveal two crewmen operating miniguns. As the helicopter touched down on the landingpad(OoC: Just assumed the Jeriboam has one) the pilot held his cap down as he ran towards the superstructure and the Lynx flew back towards Oranjestad.
The pilot was Manuel Hodiz, a brazilian working for the DAF and harbour controll. Manuel walked up the stairs towards the bridge with only a small suit-case and his radio just like any other day at work.
McLeod03
12-01-2005, 19:05
Little did the Lynx crew know that from the moment they appeared on the horizon to the moment they left the ship again, they were being watched by a MANPADS team hidden in the cargo deck. As the pilot entered the bridge, he was ushered to the helm, and given control of the cargo ship, ready to take it into the harbour.
Slowly, the Jeriboam got underway, picking her way through the minefields, heading towards the holding area on the other side of the minefield. Crewmen seemed to be bustling about readying for docking and unloading their cargo. One even offered the pilota steaming hot cup of tea.
Dumpsterdam
12-01-2005, 19:19
Manuel refused, he needed to concentrate as he guided the mines through the ever shifting field of mines towards the first docking ring.
The crew had probably noticed the two huge Austian battleships that passed them on their way to the atlantic and Manual had greeted his two coworkers via the radio on the Jeriboam.
As they cleared the mines Manual handed the controlls back to the first mate and searched the frequency of Harbour Controll and started to talk in dutch.
"Oranjestad haven post, dit is het vrachtschip Jeriboam, mijnenveld gepasseerd en we zijn op weg naar terminal een, verzoek om een inspectie team klaar te hebben bij de terminal voor controle omdat dit land nog geen handels relaties heeft met het keizer rijk."
"Prima Manuel, team zal klaar staan bij terminal een, haven post uit."
OoC: If you have any dutch speaking members on-board this will be what they hear:
"Oranjestad harbour controll, this is the freighter Jeriboam, minefield cleared and where on our way to terminal one, requesting inspection team to be ready seeing as this is a first trade contact with this country to the Empire."
"Alright Manual, team will be ready at terminal one, harbour controll out."

From: Sharkfin Naval Plane
Message understood, we will leave the immediate area and land in the sea away from your operations, we pose no risk and we will be out of range of your guns. We will wait until the area has been cleared before continuing our investigation.
Sharkfin Plane
The pilots of the sharkfin turned the plane around and sped away from the area, making sure to put 'ground' between them and the hostilities flaring up. When safely out of the area, the plane lands carefull on the sea, and soon the crew members are fitting it out to enable it to survive at sea. Once the 'ship' is stabilised, the crew begin unpacking their rations, enough to last a month at sea.
McLeod03
12-01-2005, 19:44
As they neared the shallowest part of the harbour, nearing terminal one, Operation Flashfire swung into effect. The Captain, a FLE, or Foreign Languages Expert, knew he couldn't allow a team to search the ship. He slipped a long knife, not dissimilar to a machete, out of a sheath next to his seat, and swung it at the Pilots head with all his might. At the same time, another crewman disabled the ships radios.
Then, two things happened at once, firstly, loud explosions rocked the ships hull, announcing the detonation of the scuttling charges, causing the ship to slowly sink as she slowed to a halt, going down by the bows. The next thing was the explosive bolts on the VLS-cell covers detonating, sending the huge carbon-fibre panels spinning off into the sea. As the crew disengaged the final minisub and began following a route back out through the minefield, unaware of the shifting mines, the automated launch sequence kicked in. Volleys of Wolverine-S cruise missiles shot out of the cells, arking over hard and heading towards their targets. Five hundred of the advanced cruise missiles leapt out of the cells, heading over the Dumpsterdam fleet, twenty of them heading for the Austian battleships from behind as they attempted to negotiate the minefields.
Each of the missiles was heavily modified. With only a lightweight 15lb kinetic warhead fitted as standard (OOC: Basically just a lump of metal, there to keep the COG fixed, and probably gonna cause some damage at close to the Mach), they were hardly a threat to large ships, but a hit around the waterline could damage small patrol boats and even corvettes. The two bays of the missiles, usually fitted with high-explosives, FAEs, or anti-armour sub-munitions, were instead fitted with two seperate tanks and dispersal units. As the cruise missiles flew over their targets, a fine mist of liquid settled down over the battleships and major surface combatants of the Dumpsterdam Navy, coating the decks in a sheen of fluid. The same occured over the Austian ships, with the twenty or so missiles covering the deck and superstructure in this strange substance. Local SAM and radar sites were also hit with a torrent of the strange smelling clear spray, before the cruise missiles began to slam into their final targets, mostly support craft and small combatants.
Then, they were gone, and the only sign of the attack was the substance coating the decks of most of the large ships. At first, nothing seemed to be wrong, and the attack seemed utterly pointless. But then the substance began to cure, and even the most stupid crrewman could work out it was some form of super-strength contact adhesive, seizing door joints, turrets, radar dishes, helicopter parts, anything it could penetrate that should move, suddenyl would be finding it very difficult to do so. VLS and missile batteries would have their covers adhered, making firing them an extremely dangerous prospect.
Stage One was complete.
OOC: Like I said, non-lethal cruise missiles.
Dumpsterdam
12-01-2005, 20:11
"Contact, missiles!" The operator at Harbour controlled wasted no time as he punched the alarm button and initated an all-out mobilisation of ships and troops. "Spysat and TATLAS is tracking the missiles towards the DRN base, on docking ring nine, ten and eleven!"
A few Goalkeeper 30mm guns positioned around the harbour had target coordinates relayed and the half a dozen guns opend fire from the other side of the bay towards the incoming cruise missiles as several patrol boats began heading out of the harbour at top speed towards the minefield.
The Austian battleships where infact, Dumpsterdanian, only carrying markings and flags as to indicate them to be from Aust and the captain wonderd about the strange goo that started to harden on his hands. "Sheise!" He blurted out as he swiped the still soft substance off his hands with a large towel. "Take us out of this minefield and set the crew to work on removing this...goo...use welding torches and flamethrowers if you have too."
Meanwhile the minefield shifted once more, the pilot on the "Austian" battleships cleared it with exactly twenty seconds to spare and he wiped the sweat off his forehead. "Close call..."
OoC: Most ships are out in the open, patrol boats, cruisers, destroyers, frigates, LPD's but most major craft are either out at sea or in the bombshelters of the docking rings. So several battleships and carriers will be at the docks but others will be under six meters of reinforced concrete while they recieve repairs and upgrades.

The Wolverines, designed to be able to hold their own against naval missile defense systems, began a series of hard jinks to throw off the gunfire, before covering the Goalkeepers in adhesive. Of course, nothing ever goes to plan, and fully twenty of the missiles were destroyed by the cannon fire, their bodies slamming into the hard unrelenting ocean.
Several of the now empty Wolverines began final attack runs on the patrol boats heading out to sea, accelerating in the dive towards their targets. Meanwhile, in the distance, the Jeriboam and her load of cargo containers was still settling underwater. Luckily, she hadn't broken her back, and so sat on the sea-bed, a great immobile mass of twisted steel and containers that would take days to shift.

“She’s turning Sir…wait – return fire – VAMPIRES inbound. Metal Storm and Phalanx systems up and tracking.”
The Captain felt more than heard the point defense systems as they blasted away at the inbound m Halberd missiles. But there wasn’t much time – only seconds before the missiles would cross the 12 km span between the two great warships.
“Weapons – Get another salvo off.”
“AYE SIR – FIRING AT WILL.”
The main guns roared to life – this time launching 8 16” shells and 4 10” at the Longsword – now broadside to the Wolfish battleship.
And then the missiles hit.
The Captain was blown off his feet as the first impact smashed into the number 2 gun turret – just forward of the “island” command centre.
The second missile hit three metres above the waterline – flooding 3 compartments on the port side.
But the third missile was the most deadly – it hit high on the port side – forward of the CIC – penetrating through substantial armour – before detonating in gunpowder storage locker.
As the crew sprang to action – the 20 inch shells began to land – three making direct hits on the stern deck – smashing through two SeaKnight helos before penetrating the deck armour and detonating in crew quarter areas of the ship.
Secondary explosions began rocking the ship as Damage Control teams unwound fire hoses and automated HALON systems activated.
“Status Report!” cried the Captain as he regained his footing.
“Significant damage reports coming in. We have serious fires on Decks 2 and 3 forward…three compartments flooded amid ship port side…engine room has some damage – engine trouble…reporting only steerage speed…explosions in stern compartments, crew quarters on decks 2 through 4 – helicopters destroyed.
“Call Fleet Command, report our situation. We’re out of this game.”
“Aye.”
LAX, CIC
“Vamps inbound.” called the radar operator. “Counting four.”
The LAX, being much further from the fight – had the slight advantage of time that the Forsaken didn’t. The automated defense system burst to life – four SM-2s leapt of their rails in a maelstrom of fire and smoke – as the Steel Rain defense screen counted down till its own wall of flak could be deployed.
“Launch counter measures.”
Four shells burst from canisters – and detonated on the missile path – raining down 30 pounds of aluminum to distract the targeting system on the missiles.
Finally the Metal Storm awoke – spewing literally tens of thousands of bullets using its electromagnetic firing system to fill the air with a wall of steel.
Non of the missiles made it through the impressive screen…but as the cheers of the crew went up – the smoke rose in the distance as explosions rocked the Forsaken…
Fleet Command, CIC Calico
“What orders Admiral?” asked the Lieutenant Commander.
The Admiral checked the deployment map projected on the screen in front of his chair. With a click of the mouse he zoomed in on the eight F-35 fighters from the Essex.
The display showed their weapons load, fuel status, and flight condition.
“Get Essex flight-ops on the radio – divert those fighters to engage the Longsword. Tell Essex to launch eight more jets and have them maintain a holding pattern.
“Aye Admiral.”
3rd Squad (Talon), 82nd Air Wing (Niue AFB), near ACC Essex
The tactical heads-up displayed simultaneously issued the new orders for the squad.
But it was the first line of those orders that caused the first rush of adrenaline for the young pilots… “Engage and Destroy Battleship Longsword.”
Each jet was outfitted with 4 air-to-air missiles – which would be little help in this fight – 1 Moskit (aka Sunburn) heavy anti-ship missile, and one HARM, anti radiation missile.
“TALON – HO,” called the flight lead nicknamed Smack, as he pushed his stick over and headed for the wave tops. “Let’s hit ‘em fast and hard.”
The eight jets split into two groups – running at Mach 1.8 at just 10 metres above the wave tops – relying on their instinct as much as the ground-avoidance radar (which incidentally, would occasionally not register a wave, which tends to make a big splash) as they darted between the various ships of the fleet.
Finally – as they approached the heat and smoke plume coming from the battleship Forsaken, they pulled back on their sticks – darting into the open air – just below 200 feet – and pushing the launch button.
The internal bay doors opened on the belly of the birds – as the first missile – the Moskits – disengaged from their mounts, their rocket engines firing as they found their laser locked target and headed in for the kill.
The pilots each keyed the launch button again – this time selecting the HARM anti-radiation missiles.
“Missiles away. Flight withdraw.” came the order.
As they did, 8 Moskits and another 8 HARMs were on target and seconds away from impact.

The Emporer was pouring over the U2 satalite photographs of the sea battle in the War Room of the Palace. "looks like both sides are going to be hit pritty hard. That Longsword willl be lost, but so will Wolfish's Forsaken, any news on our assesment of Wolfish's coloneys?"
"Sire. We do have assments." William looked uncomfatable at the results.
"What, William?"
"There going to be hard to get at sir. Both are heavly fortiffied, almost as much as our fortress island of Baliares. There almost as small as that island as well. It will be hard for us to take them. Without heavy bombardment that is. However they could both be used as bases for a attack on Wolfish."
"However if we bombard the they will nkow of our plan and move forces to protect those islands, won't they."
"I balive so sire. They arn't that stupid. The islands have stratigic significance."
"What about if we launched attack from Balisres?"
"Impossable. hey'd know about it before we moved a ship, and Chellis wouldn't let us through the pass. The only other way is to go the long was round through the canal."
"Do we have another choice?"
"Our inital investigations into there force shows there forces are mainly naval. I doubt they have as powerful air and ground forces as we are, and nothing compared to our Hounds."
"So we attack with our airforce?"
"No sire, I suggest as missile bombardment of one of there islands, then once the AA guns are taken out we hit with bombers and hounds. If we do enough damage with the missiles, we can hurt them badly without losing a man. That gives them a choice, move forces to protect the island or lose it to our forces. If we take out the air defences then we can hit any defending ships with ease. Our Hounds would only have an hour to mix it up with any defending planes, but there superiority should be there by then and successive raids can hurt them."
"A good plan. How many missiles do we have."
"12,000 on Baliares, including 5 nukes. 300,000 in mainland Aust."
"Thats almost as many as we had in Palpatines the first reign."
"Yes sire. It's taken us the last 30 years to build up stocks."
"How many hounds do we have."
"7,000 here, 3,000 being produced, another 10,000 in the pipeline. We have around 5,000 bombers, and 30,000 older modals in service. We have another 40,000 that havn't been scrapped yet and 20,000 privetly owned fighters."
"Piolets?"
"30,000 in the RAF, 20,000 licenced with there own aircraft. Several thousand more retired vertrens."
The lord of the air looked at his brother, "Miltiary funding currently?"
"$24,606,192,441,600.01, 50% invested in the airforce, 40% in the army, 10% in the navy."
"Of the airdorce invested in Missiles"
"20%"
"I want doubled airforce and army spending."
"Where shall the money come from, Palpatine."
A look of annoyance flashed acroos the emporers face as his brother called him his christian name. "The Education buget, Will we can cut that and use it to fund the war."
"Shall I launch the attack."
"No. I want maps of the two islands first."
Benderberg
13-01-2005, 04:54
Admiral Schroeder was worried. It was the first time in 5 years that Benderberg flagged warships were heading for a warzone. He stood at his flagship aboard the refitted Iowa class battleship BN Hindenberg. The massive Benderberg fleet formations were steaming in EMCON conditions with the lights blacked out as they moved as quickly and stealthily as possible. The Benderberg fleets were going to help their RWC allies to the death.
The Navy wasn't what Benderberg was known for, but it was the only branch able to help now as the fleet steamed for their waypoint 750 miles off of the Wolfish coast. They weren't authorized to fire at Wolfish ships yet, but they would if they saw any shots fired at allied ships.

DRN Longsword
"Firing second salvo! Number three turret firing."
In all the smoke and return fire the stern battery of the Longsword fired another volley of four as the internal guidance computer dealt with the incoming shells and missiles.
Eyes where fixed on the holo map as one missile after the other was shot down by the Testudo CIWS as the sixteen guns positioned around the fleet delivered a virtual hail of fire. "Sir, missiles destroyed, several shells have been either deflected or..."
At that moment the first shell struck, punching through the armoured deck of the Longsword and into the stern crew compartiments where it exploded killing dozens of sailors.
The second shell that got through went straight against the side armour belt of the Longsword and detonated, denting the armour and scratching the paint.
On the bridge people started to scramble to their feet. "Damage report!"
"Fires on deck one and two of the stern crew compartiments, deploying emergency teams." A quick check revealed the rest of the ship largely intact but the torpedo warning still flashed ever as bright and now the aditional threat of Wolfish aircraft presented themselves.
As the Longsword completed its turn and started to head out of the exercise area its escorts where busy with the aircraft and their attacks by launching a Discus counter missile for each incoming and then readying their Testudo's for when the aircraft or missiles got too close.
The Longsword was now turned, unable to bring to bear its forward batteries but still its VLS launchers, 16 Javelin SAM's revealed themselves as they headed for the attacking aircraft.
OoC: So that makes, four shells at the Forsaken(the Longsword doesn't know its out of action yet).
One Discus AMM at each of your launches and two Javelin SAM's at each of your aircraft. Naturaly none of these are a guaranteed kill so if you wana RP some defences towardes them, be my guest.

"I'm not commiting my ships to that battle tell them to retreat and well cover there retreat, have the 5th fleet on standby."
"Are you sure you don't want to engage. Sire?"
"Sure, our ships are to old to stand up in a battle. I've a plan for them."
"Sire."
Prince William came busilling into the command center, crossing to the hunchbacked figure at the center of the room he placed a handfull of papers in front of the Emporers face.
"Sire."
The empoer looked up, his face worn and haggared, looking even older than it usually did, he look like he was 70, he was only 14.
"Thank you, will."
"You need sleep brother."
"I can sleep when this is over."
"You can't make rational decisions when your half asleep, sire."
The Emporer thought about this and nodded, "Once this is over I'll go to my room."

"5,000?"
"Indeed."
"Chemical weapons."

Bridge, Forsaken
The scene was like something out of Dante’s Inferno. Sailors were forming up into their damage control team – and then directed to various locations. The challenge was getting to those hot spots. The upper decks were a mess of torn metal and debris – marked by small fires…the real trouble – the spots they couldn’t get to – were on the lower decks were shells and missiles had penetrated into critical systems.
“Captain – Damage Control Party Charlie is sending a team over the side to assess the port-bow hit.”
The Captain stood and walked over to the bridge’s windows overlooking the front of his ship…he watched as the team weaved its way through the debris field towards the impact point…then he heard the cry.
“INCOMING.”
With radar systems knocked out and communications with the fleet sporadic at best, the battleship had little warning of the third volley from the Longsword.
The Captain watched in horror as 12 men were shredded in a cloud of smoke and fire as the first shell hit the forward deck…and then nothing…
The Master Chief heard the incoming shells and put out the warning cry…and then could only watch in stunned disbelieve as a shell impacted the bow – but the second shell would be the one recorded as ending the battle for the Forsaken – it came in on an angle – smashing through the upper mast – obliterating a phalanx – before exploding inside the bridge.
He screamed over the roar of new explosions – but no one could hear. He ran, first towards the bridge, and then, his training kicking in to the alarm box. He turned his key in the lock sounding the “abandon ship” siren. He watched as men stopped in disbelief before dashing to their designated evac locations.
Overhead, Talon Squad
The missiles were well away and the jets turning back towards the fleet when the cockpit alarms began to sound.
“Radar Lock. Missile Inbound.” said the all-too-calm computerize voice.
“Yeah-yeah,” replied Smack. As he re-buckled his face mask. Team – evasive maneuvers – wingmen – stay near your lead.
The warning issued, Smack ran up the throttle to full afterburning – launching the jet towards Mach 1.8 as he pulled a horizontal 3g loop while maintaining his 100 foot altitude.
The warnings continued to sound as he launched a series of flares, chaff and cranked up the jammers on his plane.
“God Damned missiles are tight.” he said as he reversed his turn, and took a peak at how is squad was fairing…he watched as one plane took a direct hit – and burst into a massive ball of flame.
The downed planes wingman called out and SOS as his jet’s wing was clipped by a second missile – he ejected – his emergency transmitter began to squawk in Smack’s ear.
Smack pulled back on the stick – giving himself some room to maneuver as he cut hard right – as the missile blew past him – inches away from his wing tip. Sweat began to pour down his gloves as he check to see if his wing man was there…
Seconds later it was over – the missiles had either found their targets or ran out of juice.
“Team – roll call.” he said into the mic. “Savage” – “Juggs” – then silence. Three jets of eight made it through the barrage.
Smack called for the light squad to form up for the trip back to the carrier. As he leveled out, he caught sight of the Forsaken on the horizon – black smoke and occasional fireballs filling the sky…
“Talon lead to Flight Ops.”
“Go Talon.”
“We’ve got five planes down – at least a couple chutes…Advise - Forsaken is burning right royally…if you haven’t heard, she’s taken at least a dozen hits…can’t last much longer.”
“Copy Talon Lead. SAR helo’s en route. Get back to the Essex.”
“Copy Flight.”
CIC, Calico, Command Ship
Admiral Mirvish listened closely to the radio chatter…a battleship lost – five top-of-the-line jets shot from the sky…it was unreal. Never had the Wolfish navy come up against such a tenacious vessel as the Longsword.
“XO?”
“Aye Admiral?”
“Put her on the bottom…and her escorts.”
“AYE Admiral.”
The XO began issuing orders to the various fleet assets in the theatre.
The first being to get a live feed to a UAV circling above…the rest would follow.
UAV, 40,000 ft, nnw Longsword
The camera feeds were relayed throughout the Wolfish 3rd Navy…and, to the untrained eye it appeared to be like a well choreographed dance.
First off was the WDS Striker – an arsenal ship in the Essex battlegroup – 12 Sunburn anti-ship missiles.
The next salvo came from the LAX Frigate – now battle tested – the crew managed a record setting re-load time of just 20 minutes – it managed to fire 4 SM-2 missiles.
While the UAV didn’t catch the action, the SeaWolf subs made a second attack – this time launching 3 Harpoons each – aimed for the opposite side of the Longsword…
And the Essex pitched in again – with its Combat Air Patrol firing HARM anti-radar missiles from their maximum range. Designed to lock on to any active radar –the HARMS are not aimed – merely fired in the right direction.
Meanwhile the battleships Samson and Maso changed course to come into gun range.
Well outside the current battle site, three support frigates began laying down a long line of anti-ship mines across a possible course line of the Longsword and her escorts.

IC:
The devastation in Oranjestad was complete with dozens of missiles flying around like mad kamikazi pilots.
Eight Patrol boats belonging to the garrison at Oranjestad where sunk, twentysix where heavily damaged. One frigate was sent to the shallow part of docking ring nine, four others damaged and the battleship Ulatasters Revenge shrugged off repeated impacts with nearly half a meter of armour on her as an LPD situated next to her recieved an impact to the bridge where the missile went completely hay-wire untill it ran out of fuel, luckily the crew was on shore leave during the attack otherwise they would have had a nasty surprise.
Two Nimitz class carriers recieved damage to their flight deck and nine cruisers suffered damage ranging from holes near the waterline to blown off turrets and impacts in helicopters. However, it was over.
OoC: Just let me know if the losses where acceptable, I have no way to propper judge these things.
Niue, Wolfish
Sergeant MacIntosh had drawn the short stick during last nights poker game…he’d draw night watch radar station alfa.
There was no worse shift, short of shoveling latrines.
So, he did what any soldier in his position would do…he played solitaire on the computer.
He was well into his sixth game of the evening – or what he liked to call “the warm up period” when all hell broke loose.
His head snapped up when the first alarm sounded – his eyes turning automatically to the primary radar display…Tracks…hundreds of tracks….inbound for Niue.
And then his brain caught up with his body and he calmed down for a minute – it’d be just like his “friends” to start throwing tennis balls at the radar dish to screw up his night. So, he flipped the switch to secondary – and there they were.
His hand automatically hit the large red button on the consol – klaxons sounded throughout the base – 8 stories above.
The Watch Officer, Major Tumac, rushed into the operations centre.
“Status Report Sergeant!” he snapped.
“Sir – multiple inbound tracks. Confirmed on secondary radar screen. Confirmed count at 1,000 and rising Sir.”
“Scramble all alert status interceptors and sound general quarters. After the attack on Wolfhair Island I don’t want to take any chances.”
“Sir!”
Additional troops were rushing into their stations now – which both relieve and excited MacIntosh.
Niue AFB
The first warning had been the klaxon alert…that was followed by the General Quarters…finally the signal came to scramble all interceptors.
By that time the pilots were already half-way to their jets – and the ground crews were pulling the chocks from the tires.
As the jeeps drove recklessly across the tarmac the tone of conversations was dead serious.
“What do ya thinks coming in?”
“Dunno – Wolfhair got splattered by missiles…maybe its missiles.”
“Either way – I’d rather be up there than down here.”
“Sure – unless we don’t have a “down here” to land at when our fuel runs out…it’s a long swim back to Wolfish dumbass.”
Within minutes the first four jet squad was in formation on the primary runway and had cranked up their throttles.
“Designate Flight Alfa. Cleared to 50,000 feet.”
“Copy that Tower – Alfa cleared to FL50.”
The jets released their brakes and rolled across the dark runway – launching into the air and accelerating to Mach 2.1 – tuning their radar to link with Niue’s main dish.
“Jesus will you look at that.”
“Yep. That’s a lot of inbounds.”
The bottom corner of the screen displayed a small digital count of identified targets…the number seemed to be stuck at 1,999…the highest number it could track at any one time.
“Gonna be a turkey shoot.”
The jets ran at full throttle – depending on the tankers miles behind to be there when they ran out of JP-5.
Minutes later they reached the leading edge of the missiles…thousands of them below – dancing across the wave tops at less than a 100 feet…rushing towards death and destruction.
“Alright Boys – lock and load. Get in behind and above the leading edge – don’t target the first line of missile – aim your air-to-air missiles further back in the pack – they’ll do more damage there…when you run out of missiles – switch to guns.
As they began to thin the herd, they could see the second and third flights of interceptors rushing to help – they could only hope it would be enough. Certainly 12 fighters weren’t going to have enough of an impact to save the day.
Niue, Missile Station Tango
The orders had come in, and, as usual, had lack descriptive prose.
“Thread inbound. Bearing 180. Engage and destroy.”
“Is that all we are to them? Some…some bloody machine to be turned on and off as they please?”
“Well,” replied the other. “Actually yes. Yes we are.”
“Oh. Oh. Alright then, lets get to this.”
The PAC 2 Patriot system was largely automated. It was already tracking the targets through the primary and secondary stations – calculating potential targets – ensuring no other station was selecting the same target – waiting…waiting… “beeeeeeeeeeep”
The soldier hit the launch button and quickly plugged his ears as the six-cell launcher began to rock and shake as each missile burst from its holding cell and shot into the night sky.
No sooner was the launcher empty than it ejected the spend cells, and a automated hoist loaded another six rockets onto the rack.
“Fire.”
Flame and smoke – six trails leading into the sky. The soldier noted for the first time that his missiles were being followed by dozens of others from the various missile sites and ships located around the island – each working to kill the killers before the killers killed them.
But, in the end it was a hopeless situation.
Most of the ground troops were able to take shelter in the underground caverns and operations centres…but those on combat duty that had to stay on the surface were doomed from the moment the first missiles were spotted…as were the pilots that took to the air to destroy the incoming threat.

Benderberg
13-01-2005, 23:32
Ryansport AFB, Northern Coast of Benderberg
The Dumpsterdam distress call was picked up by Benderberg listening stations. The fleet was still too far out to launch an attack and help the Dumpsterdam ships out, but there was still hope. Sitting at this very base and 3 others was a total of 156 Tu-160G bombers. These were Benderberg improvements on the original Russian designs.
The politicians came to a decision within an hour of the message, launch the birds and strike the enemy fleet. Four hours after this meeting, the pilots were in their cockpits and on the taxi ways. Within 30 minutes, all of the Blackjack bombers were airborne and hearding North at 900 knots, far from their top speed. They were about 4,000 miles from the enemy fleet as they moved over the waters. They had to tank when they were 1,800 miles away from their objective. It was likely they'd have to refuel on the way back, but they had auxilliary tanks under their wings, and they could bingo to an allied airbase if necessary. The bombers accelerated to 1,200 knots, near mach 2. They could go up to mach 2.18, which was faster than most fighters, but the bombers couldn't attain that speed with a load of missiles. The bombers dropped their altitude at a range of 700 miles to target, this would help them remain below the enemy RADAR horizon since a distance of this far was well under the line of sight thanks to the earth's curvature.
The pilots continued to bear in until they fired their total of 624 high speed cruise missiles at a range of 500 miles. Each aircraft had 4 AS-12 high speed cruise missiles. The missiles were powered by a RAMJET and were much like a smaller, airlaunched shipwreck missile. Each missile had a warhead of 200 kg. The rocket motors on the missiles were known to have problems during start up and as a result, 65 of the missiles fell harmlessly into the ocean due to this mechanical failure for which no remedy had been determined.
The blackjacks turned back for their base under high speed. It was still likely that they would be engaged.
Barrier Island Air Base, Wolfish
The strategists and tacticians had been drafting and re-drafting the plans since the first attack on Wolfhair Island by Aust…now, with the attack on Niue – and the massive killings of civilians and soldiers, the upper brass would wait no longer.
General Daniel Blackstone, Supreme Commander Wolfish Forces, walked briskly into the room as everyone present snapped to attention – the doors closed tightly behind him.
“As you were,” he said in his rough voice.
“General,” began Admiral Hallsey, who had been overseeing the response options, stood and walked to the opposite end of the boardroom table. “With your leave we can get started.”
The General looked around the room as the assembled staff waiting in anticipation. “Go ahead.”
“Right,” said Hallsey. “General we’ve prepared several response scenarios but this first option is clearly the strongest and is my recommended option.”
The Admiral pressed the button on the remote and the primary plasma screen at the front of the room came on – displaying a CGI animated sequence.
“General – Wolfish has a great number of resources, spread over a wide area. We have bomber fleets in Europe, the Med, South Pacific, Atlantic, and of course at our bases on Sirik Island.
What is needed to respond to a foe like Aust, is an overwhelming attack – timed perfectly to take advantage of all those resources – attacking from every angle at the same time.
Here’s what it’ll look like…” he turned and watched the screen as the pieces on the puzzle came into place in a seamless stream – ending with a choreographed launch of missiles and bombs onto the nation of Aust.
The presentation took over three hours. But at the end, Blackstone stood, and said in a clear voice… “Do it…and do it now.”
“Sir Yes Sir.”
South Pacific, Wolfish 1st Navy
The orders had come in that morning, and now the flight commander and the Fleet Admiral were briefing the troops.
The pilots were concerned about the complexity of the mission – but – in the end it might be worth it.
77th, 81st, 23rd, 49th Bomber Wings: 2nd 12th , 53rd Logistics Wings, Sirik Island AFB
“And so – we are the lynch pin in this operation. Do you all understand your orders.”
“Boo-Ya!” was the response from the hundred or so gathered in the briefing room.
Multiple Bases, Wolfish proper
The crews had worked through the night – but the job was done. 105 of the jets had been prepped, and were lined up in neat rows on the edges of airbases throughout Wolfish.
Two hours earlier – the tankers and AWACs had taken off – beginning the long process of creating a sort of bomber corridor – leading right to the front door of Aust.
B-747-X cockpit, Wolfish
The pilot was trained for this very moment…and yet he felt like it was both Christmas and, at the same time, like someone was kicking him in the gut.
“I hate this waiting,” he said to his co-pilot who only shrugged in reply.
Just then the digitalized and encrypted radio came to life.
The four words were the words that hundreds of pilots and crews were waiting to here – and they were broadcast around the world in a millisecond.
“Commence Operation Cold Dawn.”
As one the large jets began moving down the taxi way – then sitting for a moment as one after the other they took to the air. Just behind the cockpit – rotary launchers loaded to the brim…primarily with AGM-137 TSSAMs which continued to download targeting information as intel was gathered and updated from the target sites.
AGM-137 TSSAM (Tri-Service Standoff Attack Missile)
Weight: 909 kg
Range: 225+ km
Guidance: GPS aided Inertial, with IR terminal (some)
Payload: 1000 lb warhead
A long range, low observable cruise missile for precision attacks against various targets.
The jets formed up in squads of four for the long trip to Aust. As the flew they would occasionally catch glimpses of what was going on around them – fighter escorts refuelling – radar planes circling – other B-747-Xs working to keep in their loose formation.
After 10 hours, the crews switched…allowing the first crew to take a much needed rest.
Sirik Island AFB
“Sir – Radar showing the attack group – on course and on time.”
“Very good. Launch our contribution.”
Moments later 15 B1s, 24 B2 Spirits, 80 B-52s plus fresh fuel aircraft took off from the islands two airports – using all of the available runways.
Taskforce Alfa, 1000 km West of Tanka
The Admiral watched the radar screens as the huge column of Wolfish aircraft moved into his jurisdiction.
“Are the fighters forming up?”
“Aye Admiral – 28 fresh young faces heading to battle.”
Minutes passed as he waited for the bombers to cross an invisible line…
“Give the order XO.”
The XO keyed his microphone. “Fire at will.”
Twenty kilometres on each side of the carrier, four arsenal ships flipped their fire control panels to automatic – targeting had long since been programmed into each missile.
The ships rocked in the wake of the missiles blowing out of their hatches and arching through the sky – following the course the bombers just took.
B-747-X, 260 km from Aust
The fighters had been the last to refuel – as they made the dash to get in front of the aerial convoy and provide protection until the bombers could complete there mission. Almost 120 fighters, all armed with various air-to-air missiles ran defense…
And then the warning light came on. The co-pilot flipped a switch, “It’s time – that’s our marker.”
The massive bomb bay door slid open under the belly of the jet as the first missile dropped from its rack – the rack turned slightly as another fell out – all across the sky the heavy bombers – loaded with top-of-the-line cruise missiles unleashed their payload on the enemy.
The missiles were programmed carefully – the first off would hit shore defences – shoreline radar stations, military installations and port facilities. As they rolled inland, the missiles would target bridges and roads – rail lines and airports…and any in-land military installations.
The final round for the missiles loads from the B-747-Xs were electric generating stations – damns, nuclear reactors, power plants.
They would be supplemented by the missiles from the arsenal ships who would run “clean-up” by striking targets that may have withstood the first barrage – particularly the hardened military targets and command and control bunkers.
And then the heavy bombers – the B52s, B1s and B2s.
Their job was by far the most dangerous. They would head inland, where they would hit airfields – both military and civilian…they would penetrate, evade, and destroy (with air defences possibly already hit by the cruise missiles).
Summary
Cruise Missiles: 11,300 (arsenal ships and bombers): first weapons in country.
80 B-52s: Each carrying various “dumb bombs” approx 30 to 50 each.
15 B1s: 24 JDAMs each (360 total)
24 B2s: 12 JDAMs each (288 total)

Message to Aust from the cruiser Eclipse.
This is the heavy cruiser Eclipse, we are burning hard for Austian waters, all RWC ships in the vicinity of the Longsword, please respond!
I repeat this is the heavy cruiser Eclipse, we are under attack by Wolfish naval forces...
Transmission interrupted.
Aboard the Longsword.
"Sir, more missiles incoming! Several arsenal ships, that damned guided missile cruiser again and we have spysat confirm on two more battleships closing in."
"Damnit, set for maximum speed and ignore the missiles launched by the guided missile cruiser, those can't penetrate the armour."
"Aye sir, Sun-burns will be engaged first by our own Testudo's. Escorts will engage the cruise missiles, no word yet on our ASW chopper."
A whining noise was heard in the background as number three turret was reloaded, its barrels aimed at the Lax. One thunder later and the four 20' shells where on their way towards the Lax as on the frigates four Principe IV where launched alongside four Lance anti-ship missiles and the first arsenal ship would find herself in quite a hefty situation.

SECRET IC:
Guffingford-Panooly Naval Command
"Sir, it seems the situation requires our assistance. We can send battleships, arsenal ships, AA gunboats, cruisers, submarines, frigates, carriers. We have many things in Holy Panooly [South Pacific] being handed over to us after the decleration of unity between Panooly and us. Niue is just around the corner there, a surprise attack on Wolfish territory would be best." The old admiral was shaking his head in an approving manner while listening to these plans.
"They sound good. Are we going to try and invade them? As we look through our vast library of nations and other facts, it seems their defence budget is immenesely inferior to ours. Only a mere eight trillion compared to our twenty-seven trillion. Our juggernaut won't run out of steam as quickly as Wolfish'." Still looking at the map, quetions were rising in the head of the admiral. It wouldn't be dramatic if we were defeated when trying to beat Wolfish on his own territory but what would happen if they managed to make a stand on Panooly territory? The coast there is horribly exposed and forward bases are easy to establish.
"Can Aust and Dumpsterdam withstand McLeod03 and Wolfish? I assume they can and will, our logisitical support is beginning to repay itself. The processing of their material goes 40% faster. Our new zero-unemployment policy really does the trick. I say we need to focus on the defensive capacity of the Panoolian continent first."
"Of course Sir."
"Sire, we have incoming missiles."
The Emporer looked up, "The responce."
"Indeed sire."
"How many, verious radar stations are picking up many of them, 11,000 at the least."
"Order the missile defence system into action. Scramble all fighters and bimbers. Procced eveyone to the underground or bomb shelters."
"Sire."

The waves had calmed now, and the deck of the Intrepid was strangely peaceful. From: Emporer Palpatine the 4th,
We thank you for your help. Several days ago, a Wolfish submarine sunk one of our allies ships, on board where 4 Austians. We demanded explanation but Wolfish only gave us lies and refused to give us compensation. Fustrated with there lies and stupidty, after giving a Ultimatum of 24 hours we declared war.
A sea battle erupted between our forces and there's, and we fired several hundred missiles at Wolfhair Island and Srik, we destroyed all Wolfish forces on both islands.
Then they attacked the city of Bambinio and other non-millitary, and some millitary targets within Aust, causing thousands of civillian seaths. We where just about to reply with all our considrable force when we recived an offer of ceasefire.
Over the Wolfish 3rd Navy, Radar Observer Sierra
“Hey Pete – what do ya make of this,” said the young radar operator.
“Shit,” said his Lt. Commander Peter Rychuck. “We got bombers inbound. Sound alert…What do we have airborne?”
The jet erupted into a flurry of activity as the new threat was assessed and preparations were made to respond.
“Sir – currently airborne – we have…” he began reading from a computer screen, “The Sabot has 6 F-35s up – so does MacKenzie and Osirius – we’ve got four from Arrow, Greer, and Ra…there are more – but their low on fuel.”
“Alright re-direct them to the threat vector. If possible – engage the bombers before they unload – if not – have them target the ordinance.”
“Aye Sir.”
“Comm – notify the Calico that possible threats inbound – advise them to get their defense grid active on this threat axis. And requested additional air-assets scrambled.”
“Aye Sir.”
CIC Calico
“How long?”
“Bombers are 500 miles out – depends on what they drop – could be just a few minutes.”
“Alright – spread the word – defensive screen should come broadside to the vector. Move the high-value assets in tight.”
“Aye Admiral.”
“I also want every helicopter we have airborne – loaded with Stingers. It might be a long shot – but it might be our last change.”
“Aye Admiral.”
Guided Missile Frigate Thiesson
The Klaxon sounded throughout the ship as she cut to starboard under flank speed – tilling the ship almost thirty degrees.
“Alright helm – straight on.”
“Aye Lieutenant.”
“Weapons – status.”
“Sir – point defense systems online – SM2s – SeaSparrows locked and on auto. Reload teams standing by.”
“Very good….Fire Control teams to your stations….Radar – you have the feed from the AWACs?”
“Aye Sir….Bombers are launching…Vampires inbound…counting…10-30-45-70-105-300- passing 600 inbounds Sir.’
“Shit.”
Combat Air Patrols, F-35s
“They’re dropping!”
The 30 F-35s made the dash as their maximum combat speed – exceeding Mach 1.8 as the bombers began releasing their deadly payload.
“CIC Calico – Permission to go weapons free?”
“Flight – you are weapons free. Good hunting.”
“Take out the missiles folks. Once the bombers are empty – their aren’t a threat.”
“Right.”
“FOXTROT.” cried the lead pilot as he flipped the red cap from the switch and toggled it forward. A Sparrow missile leapt from the rail – followed quickly by a second…then the entire flight was firing as quickly as the radar jet circling 30 miles behind could assign targets.
“Switch to ASRAAMs,” 60 more missiles followed the first round – their high-explosive warheads – designed to throw a wall of blast fragments across the path of an airborne target – detonating in rapid succession.
“Calico – we’re empty – Vampires still inbound.”
“Copy – return to your carriers.”
Guided Missile Frigate Thiesson
The Commander of the Thiesson watched on the screen as the fighters bravely engaged the incoming threats. Over a hundred missiles fell from the sky – blinding flashes of white light from the scope – yet over 500 missiles continued on.
And he knew that his ship – and the six other “picket line” frigates and destroyers might be the last hope for the fleets of the Wolfish 3rd Navy.
“Sir – we have acquired.”
“Alright – here we go.”
The automated systems of the frigate took over control – working as one with the other ships in the fleet – they would crash the gates of hell to save their wards – the carriers, battleships and arsenal ships of the Wolfish navy.
The ship rocked as the first salvo of SM2s tore out of their canisters and rocketed into the sky. Then again as the second round followed the first. Twelve powerful missiles from each ship – then a pause as the computer assessed the remaining threat – SeaSparrows followed – their pivoting mounts swinging on the fore and aft decks to lock on to the Vampires.
Again and again – missiles launched from the frigate fleet – and still the threats came.
Point defenses fires – metal storm – phalanx – even the 5” guns firing as rapidly as possible to counter the threat.
“SIR – IMPACT!” shouted someone on the bridge as a enemy missile tore through the forward hull.
As second missile followed the first – ripping into the superstructure – and detonating inside the compartment.
A quick succession of secondary explosions followed and the Thiesson quickly sank with all 300 crew lost.
With the sinking of the Thiesson, a hole was opened in the picket line – allowing some of the high-speed missiles to enter into the fleet protection zone.
The GM Cruiser Vanderbuilt watched helplessly as it was struck by a missile in the stern port quarter destroying its helicopter pad, wounding 20 and killing 8 seamen – but its anti-air weapons continued to fire – and continued to kill targets.
But the targets were many.
The aircraft carrier, Rouen, a Charles DeGaul class warship, absorbed three impacts – knocking all its systems off-line, preventing any flight operations, and wounding 84 and killing 15. 10 F-35s on the flight deck were also damaged or destroyed…as fire teams worked to suppress the fires – four more missiles struck – the most damaging a lateral strike at the waterline, rupturing 6 watertight compartments. Within 6 hours the ship would find its resting place on the bottom of the ocean.
The Battleship Scorpion put up a valiant fight – using all its many weapons to eliminate the threats. It killed over 20 missiles with its point defenses alone – before one of its Phalanx guns fails, and two missiles hit in rapid succession – one penetrating into the powder storage locker – causing a massive explosion that destroyed the forward half of the ship.
Over 400 crew are missing and presumed drowned or killed in the explosion.
Three more frigates were heavily damaged – from simply destroying missiles too close to the ship – debris flying at Mach 3 tearing holes through men and equipment.

Wolfish Frigate LAX
The fire control systems were overwhelmed by the flurry of activity as the LAX worked to reload once again…she wasn’t designed for sustained ship-to-ship combat, and this extended engagement was taking its toll.
“Captain – we can’t continue at this pace.”
“If we don’t we die…” he was going to say more – but was interrupted by the shriek of incoming shells.
The first made a direct hit on the 5 inch gun on the forward deck – smashing the turret into a mass of twisted metal – the second scored on the helo pad – punching straight through the lightly armoured area into the lower decks.
The third shell missed – just short – but the forth 20” shell finished off the brave little ship – blowing open its bridge, and destroying the CIC…the missiles that followed only confirmed her fate – as explosion after explosion rocked the vessel and forced her below the waves.
Battleships Samson and Maso
The Captain of the Samson had been watching the fight through the UAV’s video feed in absolute frustration. He hadn’t wanted to fire any missiles – that would only pinpoint their location.
But now – now that their guns were in range they could open up and end this fight.
“Are we ready XO?”
“Aye Sir – all guns ready.”
“Very good. Sustained fire sequence Charlie.”
“Aye Sir…All hands General Quarters….Helo deck – launch the birds….Turret Control – begin firing sequence. Damage control teams on standby.
Eight helicopters took off from the two battleships – each helo weighted down with its maximum load of 4 torpedoes each….they stayed low and moved forward slowly.
Before they got far the two battleships opened up – firing the first four guns – launching 8, 18-inch hardened, high-explosive shells towards the Longsword…the second salvo from turret 2 of each ship followed almost immediately – launching another 8, 18 inch shells.
Fire belched from the ships as the ramped up for continuous fire…
http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/5397/Bb61.jpg
“Mr. Clark,” said the Captain to the XO, “Target the escorts next.”
“Aye Sir. Weapons – missiles free – targeting the escorts.”
“Aye.”
Four Harpoons from each ship fled their launchers – the missiles dropped to their lowest possible altitude and hit maximum speed just as they approached their targets.
On the battleships the crews worked hard to sustain the fire on the Longsword – their primary target.
Each gun had a re-load time of only 30 seconds – allowing for a fire rate for the 18” guns of 16 shells per ship – per minute.
The high-explosive armour piercing shells – capable of penetrating nearly 40 feet of hardened concrete rained down onto the Longsword – as the ships continued to move towards the target to bring the lighter 14” gun to bear.
While all this was playing out – the helicopters moved into position – and dropped their torpedoes (32 total)– all targeting the escort ships – all moving at 45 knots until close enough – then accelerating to 60 knots in their final stage.

The Benderberg fleet had new arms in their posession, they were the Layarteb designed Crow class SSGN. With 100 SS-N-19F shipwreck missiles in her VLS tubes, she would be deadly. The first 5 of the ships had recently been delivered and were being ordered to put out to sea. The ships were built with the purpose of being stealthed. The subs set out to their ordered point of attack, 500 miles off of the Wolfish coast. They were not in a rush and would be moving quietly to launch their attack on the enemy navy.
The shipwreck was long known as the “Aegis killer” as the shipwreck missile flew very fast and low making it a hard kill for an Aegis ship. It's 750 kg warhead was one of the most powerful on a conventional SSM. The target, would be the Wolfish fleet in the harbor. If taken out, it would make the war much easier for the RWC.

OoC: Sorry, I total forgot about this.
The Longsword kept her current course out of the exercise area, no fire had been given since the message from the Wolfish fleet and the Longsword was making good her escape towards the Netherlands Antilles and more importantly the carrier forces sent to protect her.
A last TACCOM comunication sent revieled fighters ten minutes out from the 8th Battlegroup, now techicians where busy restoring comunications with the eight main ECM and ECCM as the main part of their effort, they had about eight minutes left before the Wolfish fleet opened fire again.
At exactly 14 minutes later a laser guided transmission was recieved by the Wolfish ship Calico reading the following:
Captain Tikit wishes to inform you that we will not surrender, we believe the nation of Wolfish to be honourless and any promises they make to be null and void, we have no reason to trust you.
The Longsword has already cleared the exercise area, if you have any common sense you will not chase us any further, failure will result in the destruction of your pursueing ships.
Thank you for your time,
Meanwhile in space, over the Wolfish 3rd fleet a Dumpsterdanian missile satelite revieled itself by blowing off its rod covers. Should any attempt to fire again be made by the Wolfish vessles a hail of Tungsten rods would be fired down, most would miss but with over two dozen rods they would do the job. A few lanes down space another sattelite tracked the Longsword its escorts and the 8th Battlegroup and its four incoming air-wings of fighters...

<500 miles east of Dutch Antilles>
The Task Force began a slow turn northwards. Making thirty knots through calm seas, they were to head north towards the Longsword's last known position, and provide assistance to their Wolfish allies if required. Recon 12, one of MAFCC's longer lasting surveillance satellites, began hunting the seas, trying to find the damaged Dumpsterdamian flagship. Sinking her would be a blow to the morale of the Dumpsters, and would prevent the RWC dogs from attacking friendly shipping in the Atlantic.

Sir,
Having monitored the situation in the Atlantic carefully, we have noticed a hostile flagship, the Longsword making a high-speed run south towards the Antilles and further apparently hostile vessels, presumably meant to intercept your own 3rd Navy. As a precaution, I have ordered our own South Atlantic Task Force northwards, towards the Longsword's position. We will attempt to intercept and halt the vessel in its path.

IHS Fearsome somewhere in the South Atlantic
The large Periocles Class Carrier broke through the waves as it headed North West at a speed of twenty five knots. It was a fine day in the South Atlantic, they were five days out of Gillen, having stopped to let the crew get a few days shore leave.
Also they had been waiting for the Fearsome’ sister ships, Fearless and Fearful to join her. They had just finished a spell in the Indian Ocean and had headed south to rendezvous with her after she had finished her port call at Gillen.
Since then they had been racing to catch up with other elements of 4th Fleet, the IH naval presence in the South Atlantic. Currently that consisted of three Nimitz Class Carriers a pair of Aasimar Class Battleships and a single Isomer Class Carrier.
They were in four groups, IHS Isomer with her escorts in one. The two Aasimar Battleships, Orion and Neptune along with the carrier Saratoga and the various escorts in another. The other two carriers, Raven Sea and Edginton were together with their escorts, and the fourth group was a Surface action group centred around a pair of AEGIS cruisers, that was currently passing through the Straights of Gibraltar.
There were however a trio of fast attack subs that were on individual patrol, one of which was stalking a suspected RWC ballistic missile submarine that was being particularly hard to locate.
In command of 4th Fleet was Fleet Admiral Jack Glen, the third most senior naval commander in the Navy. At age 42 he was also one of the youngest to have achieved the position of Fleet Admiral, and was highly tipped to become the next Grand Admiral, the highest position in the navy and one of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
However for now he had a mission to do. The President had decided that it was about time to put the expensive navy into action by helping NWO allies against the RWC who were currently threatening several allied nations, most notable of all McLeod03 and Wolfish. Whilst the friendship and allied status to Wolfish was through the NWO, there was a genuine attachment to McLeod, a fact highlighted by the loss of a pair of destroyers in the Mcleod civil war in which IH forces had been deployed to aid the royal family against an attempted Morrision coup d’etat.
4th Fleet was not the most powerful fleet, although with the addition of three Periocles it would be extremely powerful. Not quite so much as 3rd Fleet in the North Atlantic, or 2nd Fleet in the Indian Ocean, but powerful none the less.
195 Aircraft on each Periocles, 85 on each Nimitz, and 125 on the Isomer gave this fleet nearly a thousand aircraft with which to project its power, not to mention the helicopters that were also carried, plus the arsenals of the ships and submarines themselves.
Altogether it was a potent force that was heading North looking for trouble, although war had not been declared at the present, all ships were at a DEFCON-2 status, and ready to move to DEFCON-1 within five minutes of the order being given in J city.
--Comminique to Commander McLeod Naval Task Force, South Atlantic--
The 4th Fleet will shortly be joining the conflict to provide assistance to its NWO allies. Please do tell us any tactical or strategic data that you can, and we will have a liason officer with you as soon as our tactical aircraft are within range.
Sincerly Fleet Admiral Jack Glen, Commander IH 4th Fleet

Attached is the latest information regarding the situation in the Atlantic. Pelase note the location of the Longsword dreadnaught. I am currently steaming north-west in an attempt to further disable the ship. If I can reach it before the next group of escorts arrive, we will engage it then pull back and await your fleets. If, however, the risk is too great, we will pull back ad await your reinforcements, then attempt to catch the ship before it reaches the Antilles.

The ships bows sliced through the dark waves like a hot knife through butter. Around her, the Task Force was struggling to keep up. At thirty knots, the smaller ships had a rough time in deep swells, but they couldn't afford to slow down. They had to close in on the Longsword, now just 400 miles away. Another hours sailing and they would be close enough to launch a strike against the ship, finishing her off.

OOC: This shall be a short post. I apologise in advance for the post your about to read
IC: Huzeny Military command had been watching the situation from afar while slowly a small skirmish was becoming a full scale war. All the while they had mobilised 2 of the brand new fleets. Each was a temple to the deceased former emperor of Huzen Hagen and had over 100 ships in each. Veteran crews had been transfered to most of the new ships to make sure they could operate at full combat effectiveness. Now it had been decided that Huzen Hagen itself ould seek to help its allys. 2 of the massive fleets had formed, 1 of the coast of Huzen Hagen and the other off Svalbard. Each then had begun thee aproach to the atlantic and prepared to engange. Each ship was nuclear powered which gave the fleet a speed of 30knots, now they toward the dutch antilles. They would not let dumpsterdamns last outpost fall.
Benderberg

500 miles off of the Wolfish coast
It was 0800 when the Benderberg SSGNs were supposed to attack. At this time, on five separate subs, five separate CO's began the same procedure. It was led on the IBS BLACK TIDE.
“Man battlestations missile!” yelled her CO across the bridge as the Chief of the Watch got on the 1MC to repeat the order. The 5 subs then moved up to launch depth at 175 feet. At that point, the subs began firing their 100 SS-N-19F Shipwreck missiles.
With 5 subs firing, a total of 500 of the RAMjet sea skimming cruise missiles were launched at the Wolfish Naval base 500 miles away. Some of the missiles with their 750 kg warheads were deliberately targeted at civilian structures. This would of course be explained away as a targeting accident. Either way, 75 of the missiles were heading for the largest buildings in the targeted city. It would be the perfect way to avenge the RWC deaths at the hands of these Wolfish barbarians.
It had been secretly planned by the Benderberg Admirals for this to happen. 425 missiles should be enough to hit the large capital ships and their escorts at the enemy Naval base.
When the missiles were fired, the subs quickly began submerging and scattered running away from the Wolfish coast at a quiet speed of 10 knots. They were sure to stay under the layer as their pumpless reactors worked at a low power setting.

IHS Avenger LA Class 688I SSN. Forty Kilometers East of the last known location of the Longsword
The SSN was just coming off of a sprint to this location at thirty knots under a thermostatic layer. This reduced the chances of detection to virtually zero whilst enabling the sub to close on the last known location of the enemy flagship. By now however that location was half a day old and so it would be many miles clear of them.
As the Captain brought the sub to fifteen knots he ordered the towed sonar array to be deployed to gain a better knowledge of his surroundings.
Once this was done and the sonar crew confirmed that the area had no detectable surface vessels the sub was ordered to periscope depth where the ESM mast was raised to begin copying orders.
On acknowledgement of those orders the sub turned to a course 270 and came to a speed of thirty knots, trailing the course taken by the flagship but not catching it by any significant margain.
A KH-11 satellite was passing over this area, and four of its cameras were searching the seas for the tell tale wakes that would be left by surface vessels steaming at close to thirty knots.
Once spotted they were transmitted to Fleet HQ amongst other places, and the CBG's were informed, and changed courses accordingly.
