OOC: My claim in Earth III, I shall start assuming notquiteaplace originated in Jamaica. It's not totally closed, but please ask before making an IC intrusion or make objections before doing anything.

IC:

In the year 1876 Notquiteaplace was a thriving nation, it was as advanced as any Western people of the time and it's people were pirates as well as fishermen, farmers and industrialists. For years the raids falling apon the Dominican Replublic, or the area it occupies had mounted. There was little effective government and the nation put up little resistance. The pirates looted the poor defenseless people of that land much harder than they did in other nations and it was a favourate domain of pirate lords.

The governement was controlled by two roughly equal parties, unlike today there is no radical liberal party running the nation and the conservatives tussled with the liberals. In 1876 by a tiny majority the conservatives held power.

Lord Emmenter was the head of the Liberal party and a pirate lord. His party had managed to halt every move the government made and the people seemed to blame the conservatives for it. However their leader, the cunning General Majorican was not beaten. As the next election drew on he knew he would lose the election to his adversary and face ridicule.

Majorican was a cunning and vengeful man and set about finding out he could do to exact vengeance on his enemy. He knew him a pirate, but many people were and he couldn't just come down on pirates, esxpecially as they left Notquiteaplace alone. With six months left he made a visit to the cabinet of the Dominican republic's government and settle down to routine negotiations about said piracy. One afternoon the usual debate was occuring in the run down houses of government of his hosts.

"Majorican, you are a joke, your nation doesnt follow you and you accuse you of being innefective", the prime minister slammed his hand down and his party laughed.
"at least my nation can defend it's own borders" He snarled back at his hosts.
"I don't see you attacking and taking us over. Ha, as if you would! It would ruin the pirates that raid us. Your friends..."

Majorican began hatching a plan. If he could invade the nation he would protect it, and run the pirates out of business. And the people would approve of his conquest...

OOC: No one is even looking. I will continue nicely along.

IC: The fleet and a 10,000 man force, the largest ever seen by Notquiteaplace to that date were readied in three weeks, and parliament passed it by a narrow margin. Somehow the entire party stood behind him for once. Majorican was on a roll.

The fleet began travelling round the Isle of Jamaica, and accross the North of it. As the fleet passed Haiti it was readied for war and a mere hour outside of the waters of the Domincan territory the pirates struck. Hundreds of pirate vessels, varying from little more than 10 metre cutters to frigates.

However the navy were better trained and equipped and began firing as soon as the enemy approached their range. The pirates, with inferior weapons, and smaller ships were forced to close on the Navy. The superior numbers of the pirates thinning out rapidly as huge ships dashed their vessels apart. The pirate fleet was mainly military cast offs and fared poorly.

In the mist of war the drew quickly closer, the pirates accelerating towards their enemy, firing back but to little effect. The pirates had known from the outset what their only hope was. They had to board the transports and foil the war effort.

Of the many vessels that approached only perhaps 30 made contact. Unloading viscious boarding crews apon the transports.

The crews were massacred, the gambit had been desparate, but sending a few hundred men to deal with a fully trained army was foolhardy.

The fleet sailed into Dominican waters and headed for it's tiny navy and only naval base.

OOC: the views stopped rising and it's off the first page, and I have a lot of claims to sort in this little web of intrigue. Hence I am pressing on.

IC: The dominican republic navy was no more than 20 vessels of various sizes. The pirates had battered and broken it over the years and it sat abandoned in the port as the Notquiteaplace fleet began unloading troops.

The second part of the plan was mastery. The army advanced, cavalry at the front, infantry and guns further behind, straight to the capital. Stopping at towns along the way. At the front stood a single man waving a banner and declaring the promise of Notquiteaplace; the government would protect the republic from crime, build up it's economy and it would be reborn, if it peacefully defected.

There was no resistance until a few miles from the capital.

Lined up in fron of the capital sat 30,000 Dominican loyalists, farmers, soldiers and veterans, all of whom making a stand for their nation. A few guns sat at the flanks. Notquiteaplace's trained teams outnumbered the patheric artillery of the Domincan army and the shelling fell apon the Dominican flanks, eliminating their artillery as the cavalry charged fowards.

3000 Mounted soldiers met 30000 untrained men and began shooting and running them through with few casualties. Screms mixed with gunfire and horses neighing as the cavalry routed the entire enemy army. As the infantry advanced behind with the guns. Only a few hundred people died, their corpses spread thinly, and a few hundred more were wounded. But the result was as desired.

Notquiteaplace had more land and the conservatives won the next election. Over the next decade the republic began to become as rich and safe as Notquiteaplace. The conservatives lost the election after, and the liberals won two sucessive elections. In the year 1887 the Conservatives decided it was time to take the power back and began a new campaign. They swore to make Notquiteaplace the largest power in the Carribean. They would step accross the smaller islands one by one, effortlessly. The first target was the Cayman Islands...

Naturally they won the election and the Notquiteaplace war machine began to churn.

OOC: I noted I have seven obsevers, or six or something. Anyway the views has stopped dead and Im impatient. This is the last post I will make for a couple of days. If anyone wants to respond further, then you will have a couple of days. Then I will seal my claim up.

IC:
In this time the Dominican republic had become unrecognisable, originally little more than a few villages and a small town it had become covered in factories and cities where people began working, knowing they had a future and some security.

The islands were each no more than a few miles long, perhaps 20 at the largest. Notquiteaplace readied the navy and army. Each island would be visited by a few thousand men, have a garrison deployed and government set up and then be left for the next.

Forces moved to the uninhabited ones, throwing colonists down on them. With a large amount of government supplied helps, mines, farms and other settlements were thrown up rapidly, with new colonists helping supply the materials notquiteaplace had imported for years.

The military first moved to the Caymans before it would strike East.

OOC: Okay Im finishing it now. I will be back to Rping properly after the 15th. If you need help in conflict I might be able to send some but Im busy and have trouble getting on regularly at the moment.

IC: The forces struck the Cayman Islands and despite the defenders all being prepared for war the superior numbers and weaponry of Notquiteaplace swept them away with few losses. A few colonies were thrown down with a few soldiers to keep the peace.

At first the people disliked their new owners with riots and protests a daily event. However the government were wise in their choice of moves and instead of supressing rioters, began spending money on rennovations and gifts for their new people. After 3 months the people were pacified and the new territory moved rapidly into the industrial age, catching up with notquiteaplace.

The next moves followed this, the army becoming experienced, the peacekeepers also more effective. Within the the first term of office the conservatives had added much more land to the Notquiteaplace empire. The war engine of notquiteaplace looked set to cinsume all before it. Like a train the conquest sped up and by halfway through their term the party looked set to win the next election. Haiti and Cuba were the only nations that remained.

With the army poised to attack Haiti, there was disaster. the Haitians had disliked the Notquiteaplace activities for years, but were the only nation large enough to stand, but now with dozens of specialised colonies, each supplying one or two goods efficiently and with boats making transport cheap, Notquiteaplace was rich and well equipped. It's professional army looked set to crush the Haitians.

The conservative party cabinet was killed in a train accident while crossing the single line from the capital, Notquiteaplace to it's port. The party wasconsumed in internal struggle and wasn't able to sustain it's campaign. It lost the election and the liberal party won, barely. However with the newly captured colonies still behind the mainland and a large government debt in place, they decided to start improving their nation from the inside.

Since then two world wars followed, which Notquiteaplace deftly avoided, earning the peace lobby more supporters. While this world is a dangerous place these days and notquiteaplace maintains a powerful military, having witnessed the fates of more imperialistic countries and their economies, it is unlikely to expand unless it would increase it's own security.
