With polls closing yesterday on the Republic's Presidency Elections, the Conservative Party took office once again in a landslide victory, quashing the previous hopes of the Liberal Party to take the position from the Conservative President Daniel Vosselieu, a man who has held the office for close to a decade.
President Vosselieu gave a victory speech to his part yesterday, praising their work and the choice of the electorate.
"These are difficult times for our nation," the 48-year-old President said in front of the Conservative National Congress as the voting tally was announced. "We have many political and economic issues to solve over the next four years; social equality and economic development are forefront problems that need to be addressed. Make no mistake; no-one will be left behind in the next four years."
Referring to the border spats with the Dominican Republic, Vosselieu attacked the Dominican government for "inflaming the situation" and "retaliation will occur if infringements of our sovereingty continue."
The President also announced an opening of diplomatic channels to all nations of the world wishing to establish diplomatic relations. President Vosselieu particularly hopes that surrounding nations in the area will help band together to form a "stronger regional bond."
