Village Taken Hostage in Comatic Countryside

A truckdriver snorted as he took a puff of his cigarette. The dawn was fasr approaching, and the truckdriver hadn’t slept in 30 hours.
The rural road emerged out of the forest, into the vast, rolling, empty hills of Collekevvi. As the driver drove over a hill, a village was visible in the distance, about 3 miles away. This was the village of Genadium or Springbrook, translated into english, and it was the only civilization for 30 miles around.
The truck drew closer to the village as light of dawn illuminated the hills. The truck was about a mile and a half away from the village. But the truck never made it.
A rocket fired off from behind a hill. The truck driver, half asleep, did not notice. The rocket hit the cab just below the driver-side door. The cab was jerked to the side, and the driver was dead before he knew what was happening.
The luggage compartment swung around, off the road, and detatched, and was sent rolling down a steep, 70 foot hill.

“Welcome to IBC News, I’m Livius Helvutem. Our top story tonight: A rural village has been taken hostage by an unknown terrorist group.
Earlier this morning, reports came in of a truck exploding while on it’s route to the village of Springbrook, inhabited by about 150 people. Then, a group of a reported 100 men with AK-47 rifles stormed the village, and took all the inhabitants hostage. The Emperor then received a telegram with demands. The demands have not been released, but the IIB is releasing that the captors will kill 7 hostages a day, until the demands have been met. More on this as it develops.”
A Meldova helicopter skimmed the countryside. A machine gun was mounted behind the door, manned by Major Delsemus. Behind him, 11 troops sat on benches, stroking their guns, or holding prayer beads tightly.
“You got about 3 minutes to Springbrook,” The pilot called back. Major Delsemus nodded, and put out his cigarette under his boot. He placed his helmet on his head, and slid open the cabin door.
A rush of wind met him. The troops behind him loaded their guns and stood up. Delsemus took hold of the MG-30, and readied himself.
A bullet whizzed by, and struck the side of the helicopter. Delsemus leaned out, to see a convoy of about 20 APC’s and 10 other trucks, towing howitzers and anti-aircraft guns, 200 feet below.
Delsemus opened fire on the convoy. A mass of anti-aircraft fire answered, along with small bullets from seemingly regular guns.
The rounds punched dozens of holes all over the helicopter. A bullet caught Delsemus in the chest. He stumbled backward, and crumpled to the floor.
The shouts of his companions seemed distant, and his last sight was of the helicopter being jerked to the left, and then a ball of fire.
OOC: I need someone to RP the terrorists, like sending out the demands, and killing hostages.

A videotape soon circled around the internet.
"This is Gerald Onizuka of the Real Anime Liberation Movement's Great Teacher's Brigade. We are currently holding the village of Springbrook hostage. We demand 150 million US Dollars, and the repeal of the anime ban in Pacitalia. Unless this is done, we will begin executing hostages, at the rate of seven per day, as previously stated."
OOC: I will take responsibility.

Emperor Lucius chewed his pencil as he spoke with his advisor.
"So they want 150 million US dollars, right? And the repeal of a ban in Pacitalia?"
"Yes," answered the advisor.
"While we should not give into the demands now, we cannot, unless Pacitalia agrees to lift the ban." Lucius sighed. "I want to speak with Prime Minister Timothy Ell of Pacitalia. He should know about this."

As this was occuring, Gerald Onizuka, wearing a Canadian pattern camo jacket, was cradling a M-21 rifle in his lap. Sitting on the hood of a Land Rover Defender 90 (one of many rented or shipped in and uparmored), he was smoking a cigarette.
"This scummy little town is all ours......" he thought. "We hold the power of life and death here."
He got off of the hood, and walked up to one of his associates, holding a Stinger Missile in his hand. He said, "Hey, Bob."
Bob said, "How's it going. The village is tight. The families are in their homes, the police are disarmed, we got some pistols and shotguns from them."
There were other men in Canadian camo jackets, armed with Colt Commandos, L96A1's, plus the odd M1911. They were fullly stocked, with RPG-7V's and Stingers, and all of these being smuggled in via being disassembled into their components and being shipped in country by mail and via cargo crate.
Many of them had mean, thousand yard stares. Patrolling the town, they occasionally stopped to hand out rations to the people, and threaten them.
Onizuka smiled, they had nothing to worry about. If the government didn't cave in, big deal, they could always tape the results.

Our top story tonight: The ongoing hostage situation in Springbrook.
The demands have been released. The terrorist group of Real Anime Liberation Movement's Great Teacher's Brigade, circulated the demands on the internet. They demand 150 million US dollars, and the repeal of a ban of anime in the the nation of Pacitalia. Emperor Lucius Celmaetus spoke with Prime Minister Timothy Ell of Pacitalia this evening, and the results have yet to surface.
Tomorrow, the killing of 7 hostages a day will commence, if the demands are not met. The government is rushing to create a team of rescuers to get the hostages out safely.

"Frickin' feds. They won't dare lay a finger on us."
He pulled out his Handicam, and began recording.
"This is Gerald Onizuka of the Real Anime Liberation Movement's Great Teacher's Brigade. If you want to ensure the safety of these villagers, you will not attack us. If you do, we will increase the rate to seven per hour, and we are ready to use rockets to level this town afterwards. You have been warned."
"Otherwise, we will treat the villagers well. Do what we ask, there will be no problems."
He then finished recording, and transmitted the recording on the internet.

Lucius typed in the site address that an advisor had given him in the URL bar on his laptop. On the first page, there was a link to a video. He clicked it.
His teeth clenched as the video unfolded. At the end, he was more angry than he ever was before. He yelled, and in his frustration, he threw his laptop against the wall, the screen detatching from the keyboard.
He fumbled with the phone on his desk. He dialed the IIB number, and said "Cancel the rescue efforts. I have another idea."

He filched a cigar from the mayor's humidor, and smoked it, confident of his success.
Still, just to be certain, he went outside into the street. He checked his men to ensure they were still on patrol, and then ordered them to continue doing so.
He went back inside, and watched some more TV.

By taking an entire town hostage, you have just proven how low a human can stoop and, in addition, how despicable you and your "freedom fighters" really are. You're also proving my point that anime leads to violence. You threaten violence against innocent people to get me to lift a ban on something that causes violence in people. Ironic, isn't it? I was thinking of lifting the ban eventually, but your actions have caused me to cancel that thought.
Stop making excuses, stop making useless videos, and stop being a coward. Your demands are ridiculous and if you think for one second at all that taking a town outside our borders will influence our domestic policy, you are a bunch of foolish imbeciles. We will come to the aid of our ally in whatever way they need us, and we will root you out faster than you can say tempura. I hope you will enjoy a swift, painful death at the hands of a military with over fifty million men, and if I can add, just over 200 ICBMs at our disposal.

Lucius's advisor became his full tactics advisor throughout this whole ordeal.
"The obvious rescue efforts will hasten their killings," Lucius thought out loud. "But I have an idea that will rescue the hostages without endangering them.
And send a memo to Pacitalia. They wish to help us to free the hostages."
Lucius's plan involved a work effort that would take days. He was to send 200
Vedquestrandrun (Most elite fighter in Comatica), along with 200 of Pacitalia's best fighters, into the South Hills coal mines, a maze of mines that twist and turn all over the northern ridge of the Valdarel Mountains.
The soldiers would take 250 experienced miners along with them; and together, they would tunnel 3 1/2 miles from the mines to the village of Springbrook.
Once in the village, the 400 troops would take back the village by night, hopefully catching them by surprise.
OOC: Remember: the "freedom fighters" don't know about this plan. They maybe catch a few hints that something might be going on.

180 NX-201-B Pacitalian stealth personnel carriers flew over the rocky countryside near the captive town of Springbrook. They flew under three hundred metres to avoid the possibility of being scanned on radar, if the ALM captors had any.
Each NX-201-B had room for 9 troops, some carrying 8, as the total number of forces heading for the besieged town totalled 1,600. When the time was right, a hatch would open in the bottom of each SPC and the men would parachute to the ground, quickly drawing their SMGs and searching for bogeys.
"Gentlemen, we're 20km out," came the voice of the tried and tested Commander Olivetti, leader of this mission by the SAFD. "Prepare yourself. Let the games begin."
What nobody else, not even the Comatican government, knew was that another 9,000 SAFD troops were secretly assigned by the PM himself to aid the 1600 coming in by air. Those 9,000 would make their way over land to create a total elite force of 10,600 personnel.
There was nothing stealth about this mission except for the getting-there part of the journey. Once near the town, a full-out surprise assault would begin, regardless of the terrorist organization's knowledge of the SAFD's presence in the sieged town.

If you were willing to talk, I'm the King of the world. And watch your insults, you little prick. I'm 36, nowhere near an old man. Comatica had chosen a different approach. About 10 helicopters carrying close to 150 men were on their way to Springbrook, approaching the other border of the town. A convoy of 100 APC's and 10 T-ACFTs (Tanks) was heading along the same route the truck had driven on, carrying over 1,000 men.
Captain Ianuadus sat in the leading APC, swaying gently on the bench in back. He lit up a cigarette and said to the troops, "These bastard 'freedom fighters' will probably try every trick in the book. Just remember: Don't take any bull from anyone, got it?"
The road emerged from the trees, into the dark night on the Collekevvi plains.

OOC: PDC, I guess we'll RP the same time frames, then.
Springbrook, 1:40am, 3 January 2005
The ten thousand SAFD men made their way towards the townsite, slightly ahead of the Comatican troops. Two hundred had stayed behind to help dig the tunnels with the Comatican miners and some of the PDC army. The following Comatican army would make a nice and swift second wave of attackers on this town.
The first wave of 2,000 SAFD men swiftly ran into the town, followed by two more waves of two thousand men. They fanned out, searching the streets for the evil that lurked within.
The troops noticed that the town was completely blacked out except for one light at the top of a tower. A TV was going off and a lone person stood there watching what appeared to be sports, or a lot more predictably, anime.
Five men hung back and looked for a clear shot with a sniper scope to see who the man was.
"Come on. Turn, turn!" he whispered.
Suddenly, shouts ensued to the left. A man pulled out his radio and frantically attempted to communicate with his commander but couldn't. Quicker than lightning, the man was crumpled against a dumpster, bleeding from the chest, dead. Many more of these enemies endured the same fate as the SAFD troops spread through the small city like wildfire.
Back at the sniper's location, the five men lay shrouded in darkness. Finally, the man turned and looked out at the city. The SAFD men looked through their scopes as the mystery man appeared to scan the townsite suspiciously. But he wouldn't see anything - the SAFD were dressed completely in black and were protected from the moonlight which was coming from the lunar source behind the very apartment they were looking at.
"That's Onizuga. Get a shot and fire."
"Roger."
Two of the men moved around to get a clear position.
"Decide. Who shoots?"
The first guard replied, "I have at least 20 seconds of open. Stand by."
"Roger. I sure hope this glass isn't bulletproof."
OOC: ALM, post your losses to the surprise attack. I estimate we've eliminated at least fifty of your men after this first attack.

His fear was confirmed when one of his men broadcast to his radio.
"Big Boy, this is Grendel. We have lost a platoon, we are under attack. The damn Feds!"
Onizuka ordered the remaining men to form up on him in the Mayor's house, and ready their RPG-7V's. They would fight it out, Alamo-style. Some men began to trickle in, about ten, nearby the house. In the meantime, sporadic gunfire could be heard everywhere as the remaining 40 men rushed to the house, it was like the Apocalypse had come.....
He then pulled out his M-21, and cocked it. They would not take him alive.

The APC's pulled into town, soldiers swarming all over the streets.
"The Pacitaians got here before us," said Captain Ianuadus. He jumped out, and threw his cigarette to the ground. "Let's do this thing."
The troops hurried out, gunfire splitting the shouts. Without warning, the APC Ianuadus had come in exploded in a mass of flames. The wreckage was strewn over the streets as enemies showed themselves, some half-dressed, as if they were taken by complete surprise.
Blood pooled on the ground as bodies fell to the cold pavement in the January air. Explosions and gunfire rocked the ground, and 6 Comatics lay dead.

Some forces fanned out further to search for civilians.
Commander Olivetti moved forward with one group. An SAFD lieutenant came up behind and whispered. "Sir? Some of the Comatican army has arrived. Their convoy was destroyed by an explosion. It's estimated twenty-five are dead."
"Thank you." He turned back to his thoughts. Damnit, now they will REALLY pay. Bastards.
They turned the corner, some hauling equipment, ammo and stationary machine guns, looking for more bogeys.
The 50 men in the first line yelled back: "They're setting up! They're setting up! Stationary, now!" They began to fire at the rebel ALM terrorists, catching a few in the chest. Most ducked behind their sandbag wall.
Five MX-917 stationary machine guns were set up along with a powerful, two-width sandbag wall for protection from any bullets. Meanwhile, more SAFD men entered the town and fanned into buildings, removing windows to get clear shots, and accessing rooftops to scope out more ALM guards, most of them unbeknownst to the ALM.
Olivetti got on the radio. "Scoper Roof-1 Alpha, report."
"Sir, they're using RPG-7V's and it looks like they have a stash of hand grenades. About twenty of them, I count."
"Thank you. Over and out."
"10-4," came the reply.
He turned back to the universal channel. "Ready, and, fire."
The 12-mm armour-piercing bullets of the MX-917 tore through everything in sight, along with .45 ACP ammo from the SMGs of the rooftop and window guards. After one string of 12s, at least another 60 ALMs had been taken out.
OOC: Supper for me, back after. ALM, post more losses.

Springbrook, 3.00am, 3 January 2005
The SAFD continued to push onward through the darkness of Springbrook, capturing and searching building by building and so, increasing their territory count in the town. It was estimated that almost half the town had been searched and taken, as the ALM continued to retreat farther back from their original posts.
Men with SMGs continued their fluid assault on the town, breaking into houses, searching for captors or bogeys and taking out the low-ranks. All the suspected high-ranking men were to be taken back to Aredeth and dealt with by Comatican authorities. That is, except for Onizuka, for he would be shot right away, and hopefully the snipers had done their job.
Sniper Post, 2.54am
"Confirmation? Target down or out?" said the sniper leader.
Their MX-917s with attached scopes and silencers had powered through the large plate glass window and destroyed almost the entire apartment. Nothing really looked salvageable from down at the town entrance road. And Onizuka hadn't been seen for a couple of minutes.
"Damnit," said the sniper leader. He flicked on the radio. "We don't know if we got Onizuka or not. Find him."
"Roger."

Much of the ALM troopers were taken out....at least 40-50 were dead, now only about 20-25 men and Onizuka were left. Much of the town was being retaken by the Pacitalians, who seemed to fight like devils, driven by the quest for justice. The Real ALM troopers often took potshots at the Pacitalians using Colt Commandos or RPG-7V's, but much of the fighting was a fluid, fast withdrawal to the Mayor's House.
--------------------------------------------------------------
At the house
Onizuka decided, he would not be taken down by them.
Taking an RPG-7V, his men soon turned, and with them, he fired a volley of rockets at the incoming Pacitalian infantrymen. Then after firing a volley of 5.56 rounds, they ducked behind cover to reload.
In the meantime, he readied a katana. He didn't know whether to die by seppuku or go out, Butch Cassidy style.
He put down the pen, and pulled out his sword. His men picked up a hanky, used a red magic marker to turn it into a Japanese Naval Ensign. They took some more RPG's, and some took more ammo for their Colts. Hand Grenades, British make, were given out to every man.
He pulled out his radio, and ordered his men: "On my signal, charge at the enemy....you may die, but by God, you will be remembered with more honor than they ever will."
Lowering the radio, but keeping his hand on the talk button, he yelled, "ONE, TWO, THREE!"
"BANZAI!!!!"
On that cue, the men charged at the Pacitalians, firing wildly at them, spraying bullets and rockets and chucking grenades in their general direction.
The other men left in the town did so as well, hearing Onizuka.
If they were gonna die, they were gonna die fighting. If they were going to be shown as trophies on Pacitalian and Comatican television, so what. They didn't care....they were willing to die, they had honor.

"Shit! Rockets! Back, back!" The men ducked back behind the buildings, the ones manning the stationary MX-917s staying there, continuing their vicious 600-round per clip assaults on the ALM "bunker". At least six of the ALM men were taken down by the twenty seconds of continuous fire per clip.
"How many are left?" Olivetti yelled over the seemingly never-ceasing chik-chik of the stationaries.
"At least 15, sir."
The rockets were fired from the ALM side of the street with immense volume. The screeches of the rockets were deafening and they hit the side of the fence, creating an enormous explosion.
"Everyone okay?" Olivetti turned around in a three-sixty, furiously searching to make sure all was accounted for. But it wasn't. Three men lay dead, their heads almost entirely smashed in by their promixity to the explosion and the resulting force.
"Damn it!" They repositioned themselves in the street, facing the 15 or so ALM men like some Western old-time gunfight.
It was simultaneous: Every man's SMG was cocked and readied. The ALM men began their charge, running towards them with pistols and grenades in hand.
The "gunfight" was over in seconds - all 15 of the ALM men lay dead in the street, except Onizuka. He lay with a bullet in his leg and another in his arm, coughing and spitting like an angry cat at the pain the .45 ACP ammo brought to his upper and lower right limbs.
"Get him medical help, and bring him to me after. I want this half to search the town and be satisfied there are no other enemies here - make sure civilians are safe and give them medical attention if they need it. Also check for documents that may be useful to both the military and the government. The other half comes back to the convoy base with me."
The half going with Olivetti stopped at the town's edge, where a few Comatican soldiers knelt in front of their dead comrades, putting blankets over them, tears in their eyes. They looked up at the SAFD as they passed, Commander Olivetti in the lead. He stopped and turned to the men, saying "Wait."
He offered his hand to one of the soldiers and pulled him up. The Comatican soldier seemed to know why right away, and the two men embraced each other like brothers.
Commander Olivetti broke the embrace and said, "I'm sorry. These were good men. Their honour will definitely not go unnoticed, Captain Ianuadus."
Captain Ianuadus replied, "Thank you."
He then in turn embraced the remaining soldiers, and those soldiers in turn shook as many hands of the SAFD men as they could.

The soldiers sorted ruefully through the wreckage. The bodies of the ALM men were piled in the town square, and doused with gasoline. Captain Ianuadus pulled a plank from the destroyed mayor's house and soaked the end with gasoline. He lit a match, and set fire to it, making a torch. He handed the torch to Commander Olivetti, who bowed his head, and took the torch. Wity the flames of the torch reflecting in his watery eyes, Captain Ianuadus brought his hand to his forehead in salute to Commander Olivetti. The Comatic soldiers around them did the same. And without looking back, Commander Olivetti tossed the torch on the carcasses, setting them ablaze.
"Wait," Ianuadus said. He pulled out a cigarette and lit it in the bright flames that were engulfing the bodies. He took a puff.
The two men turned around, to face about 2 dozen villagers, dressed in their sleep clothes, watching the pile go up in flames. The villagers seemed steeped in gratitude, and they all broke into wild applause, cheering all of the soldiers in the town. This made Ianuadus glad that he had enlisted in the military.
