This would be an RP focusing around the struggles of European states in the early modern age, a period of global expansion but of religious strife and dynastic warfare as well. It would also be one in which there would be some freedom to create alternate histories, although within reason. I'm taking claims now.
Limitations:
* All states would have to be European or close to Europe. ie, something like the Ottoman Empire is okay, but no Chinese or Japanese PC nations. The big eastern nations are NPC's.
* Colonies. Most of the big ones were in the Americas, although there are also smaller colonies and larger trading posts operating all over the world. However, this isn't yet an era in which European powers can claim complete dominance over China or Japan. There's going to be more getting of stuff than stuff already had. Also, I'd like to spread the wealth around a bit, so to speak, to spice things up.
* Population: I'm pretty knowledgeable about the realistic populations of nations for this era, especially in Europe. Needless to say, you will not be allowed to claim your 3 billion + populations. The population of France was 20 million in 1600, and I'm enforcing an absolute population limit of 35 million. Keep in mind, though, that some pretty small states did pretty amazing things during this time.
* Military: I'll relax the historical restrictions on standing armies somewhat for the sake of the RP, but it shouldn't be anymore than 1-2% of your population. However, there's also lots of mercenaries about, some commanding armies of over 10,000. Just be reasonable about it. Navies shouldn't be more than 200 ships, and scale according to your size, wealth, need for a big navy, etc.
* Religion: No Buddhist states, of course. Religion is a huge part of the politics of the era, of course. The main religions of the time are Catholic, Muslim (if you're the Ottomans or something), Orthodox, Lutheran, Calvinist and Sectarian (minor Protestant).
* AU Countries: ie, nations that didn't exist in this time at all. Hey, no inherent problem. Just make sure it's sort of reasonable.
* Experience: Not necessarily needed, although I of course, would prefer to have good RPers than bad ones. Continued BS will merit expulsion from the RP. If you're not sure about something, ask me or another RP who has demonstrated a knowledge of the history of the period.
* Other Stuff: To be added later
* How To Claim: Not going to adhere to a large nation can claim such and such system. I'm not looking for a huge RP with dozens of people, but keep in mind the arena is fairly small. I'd ideally like an RP of about ten to a dozen really dedicated people.
* The Holy Roman Empire: Is a complex amalgamation of little states which is more united that in IRL but that's not very united. There's a dynastic conflict which overlaps with a religious conflict which is preventing the HRE from becoming a nation state.
* What About You?:
I'm a history nut and like historically minded RPs and enjoy the possibility of some nice alt-history.
I'm playing a larger nation partly because it's my RP and I have the right to do so and partly because it's the most confusing and tricky, not to mention a likely focus of plotlines. The Holy Roman Empire is in practice, though, only one of several powers, even if it is an uberpower on paper. A united HRE would be a nightmare for pretty much everyone, though as you can imagine.
Claimed States:
Holy Roman Empire- Nordrreich
Venice- Arenumberg
France- Yafor 2
England and Scotland- Communist Likon
Sweden- Wr Yiddfa
Warta Endor- United Provinces
Azharadon- Hungary
Spain- Kruger
Poland-Lithuania- Falastur
Moscovy- The Mart Union
Ottoman Empire- The Wick
Denmark- claimed
