The first prototype Saladin was built in 1954. Production was from 1958 to 1972. Used in over 20 different countries, only Britain and Portugal among NATO countries took them into service.
The mechanical components are the same as those of the Saracen except the brakes which are disc type. The B80 engine is mounted in the rear and the driver is seated in center front. Road speed is about 45 mph and a range of 250 miles. Saladin has 3 gas tanks that are interconnected. The turret is manual but has power assist when really needed, although the turret turns really easy.
The rear hatches make the engine easy to work on.

Samson is a recovery vehicle intended to recover vehicles of the Scorpion family. Samson comes with a Plumett capstan type winch driven from the main engine. The winch has a maximum line pull of 20,000kg. One feature that makes Samson stand our right off is the large spade anchor fitted to the rear to allow the winch to reach its maximum potential. Like most of the Scorpion family, Samson is also amphibious using a floatation screen and tracks for propulsion. Maximum pull on the winch is 12 tons.

The five road wheels on each side are rubber tired, and mounted on torsion bar suspension. The manganese track plates are rubber padded and rubber bushed which makes it street adaptable. Crew compartment is in the rear entered into by a large rear door. The 432 has NBC protection. The side seats in the rear are removable for more room if needed.

This is the lightest vehicle in the Scorpion family. Used with NATO and still in service and many have been sold to the public as well as other governments.
