OOC: More to come. Also, this is kind of Secret IC, with no knowledge of this organization going into the international community's mind.

Logo and Motto
The logo of the Centurion Initiative is above, an eagle with lightning and its wings outspread. This symbolizes loyalty to the Empire, as well as power.

The motto of the Initiative is "Parva Componere Magnis", which is Latin and translates to "To compare small things with great ones." This deals with the ideaology of the Initiative because, although relatively a small force, they can deal with an army that outnumbers them and come out on top using pure skill and the extensive learnings they have gone through.

New Beginnings
The Centurion Initiative began on February 11th, 2004. The Initiative, for short, was started by General Robert Hur, who is now deceased. General Hur was an experienced officer, and knew much about the need for a Special Operations Force in the Witzgallian Empire.

Working with the current Fuhrer at that time, Matthew III, General Hur made a strong and very secretive organization known as the “Initiative.” At this time, only eighteen non-operatives knew of the existence of the Initiative.

One hundred agents was the starting number of operatives in the Initiative. Not long after its start, the Initiative grew to over three hundred operatives and an administration of over thirty high ranking military officials.

The name was changed to Centurion Initiative after the operatives were given a reputation amongst other “Black Ops” organizations for being fierce and merciless. Thus, after the name for a professional officer of the Roman Army, which were called centurions, the name was changed.

Operations
Many operations have been credited to Centurion Initiative “soldiers”, some of which they haven’t even read about. This helps muddy the waters of the associated press, making it harded to sift through what the Initiative is and isn’t responsible for.

A conspiracy sparked by the Centurion Initiative concerns its basis and main purpose. Some say they are drugged up soldiers. Some say they are aliens from Jupiter. Some say the Initiative was started to take out the Fuhrer and General who spawned the organization. The Witzgallian Government will not comment on any of these theories, which clouds up the Initiative even more.

There is a list and details of actual missions below.

Weapons
The operatives of the CI have a choice of a range of diverse and foreign weapons. From assault rifles to submachine guns to sniper rifles, the choices are unlimited.

The sniper rifle of choice is a domestically produced SR-080 “Patriarch”, usually the bolt edition. The most common assault rifle of choice is either the XM8 or the AR-33 “Shrapnel.” However, with the new addition of the AR-42 "Locke" (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=386161) to the assault rifle "lineup", numerous operatives are choosing it for its innovative design and small "package." There has been long debate over the submachine guns to use. Some prefer the German MP5 for its reliability and selective rates of fire. Others prefer the domestic R-12 “Justice” and the punch it packs with its 10mm round.

Pistols are not of concern, usually. The caliber is the most often debated, but usually the .45 ACP round comes out on top in the time of need. Some do prefer the lightweight of the 9mm, however.

Two weapons that are used by our special forces with a favoring are the following, an Assault Rifle and a Sniper Rifle:

M-52 "Horseman"
Picture (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v212/Witzgall/6658db34.jpg)

Type: sniper rifle
Operation: bolt action
Caliber(s): .338 Lapua Magnum
Weight (empty): 15.8lbs
Range: 3,500+ feet
Overall Length: 45.6 inches
Barrel Length: 25.21 inches
Muzzle Velocity: 3,020ft/sec
Magazine Capacity: 5 or 10 rounds detachable box magazine
Barrel Life: 15,000 rounds

PRICES
Unit Price: $3,800.00
Ally Price: $3,150.00

In order to "weed" out structural weaknesses commonly found in most sniper rifles, the reciever of the rifle is made out of a solid piece of forged steel and forms a stressed part of the action. The action is long enough to compensate for the .338 Lapua Magnum round which it uses.

The action cocks on opening and the bolt has a short lift of 60 degrees, which ensures that the shooter is able to eject and re-chamber a fresh cartridge with minimum effort and without removing his or her head from the cheek rest. Even the cartridge headspacing can be reset by means of a removable steel locking ring pinned inside the front bridge of the action.

It has a 25-inch free-floating heavy stainless steel barrel, built onto an anodized aluminum chassis. It is normally equipped with a specially designed scope, and when equipped with a well-sealed scope it is capable of first shot hit, cold, hot, or with what is commonly reffered to as a "fouled barrel."

Tests of the rifle at 300ft proved ten-shot groups of roughly a third of an MoA (1/3 of an inch). That shows the deadliness and the tremendous accuracy of the M-52 rifle.

The rifle, when purchased, comes with a scope (10x magnification, infared), a bipod, a sling, a cleaning kit, and ten five round magazines. This is all placed inside of a lightweight and very durable carrying case and shipped directly to your nation from our company.

Caliber(s): 5.56mm, 7.62x51mm , and 7.62x39mm
Weight (empty): 3.35kg (5.56mm) and 3.73kg (7.62mm)
Range:
5.56mm Maximum: 3,000m; maximum effective, area target 760m; maximum effective, point target 520m

5.56mm 390mm
7.62mm 440mm
Rate of Fire: 625 rounds per minute
Muzzle Velocity: 944m/sec
Magazine Capacity:
5.56mm 35 rounds standard
7.62x51mm 25 rounds standard
Barrel Life: 30,000 shots

PRICES
Unit Price (5.56mm): $1,300.00
Unit Price (7.62mm): $1,680.00
Ally Price (5.56mm): $1,150.00
Ally Price (7.62mm): $1,300.00

The M-36 Scarface is a Special Forces Combat Assault Rifle, and comes in two calibers, both the 5.56mm and the 7.62mm. The M-36 is more resistant to fine sand, dust, and other things that may find their way into the reciever than the M16, and all weapons that use its ejection/bolt system.

The M-36 has quick detachable barrels, which help switch from various configurations (such as that from a Sniper to a Carbine, etc.).

The M-36 also has single and automatic firing modes. The reason for it not having burst fire is due to the fact that it is made specifically for Special Forces Operators, where usually single fire is used anyway.

Sighting equipment, including telescopes, night vision, infared sights, etc., can be fitted onto the mounts. The M-36 does not feature a grenade launcher or a bayonet mount. It features a silencer as a standard add on, that comes with every rifle.
Equipment
Standard issue equipment to operatives in the Centurion Initiative include gas masks, fragmentation grenades, smoke grenades, Nomex shatterproof googles, balaclavas, Kevlar tactical vests, Kevlar helmets, Nomex gloves, Nomex combat boots, binoculars, infared and night vision compact goggles, and a compass.

Equipment and layout does change with the mission, of course. One mission may require a ghillie suit to maintain stealth, while another may require a anti-tank missile to take out a tank column.

Also, they are given "earpiece microphones", similar to that of a modern cell phone's handless talking system (a piece clips around your ear with a speaker in your ear and a microphone near your mouth). However, these are military-grade and do not break easily, have greater reception and stronger signal in weather, and can be used globally.

Training
Each operative is trained as a standard soldier in the Witzgallian Army, to start out. After they show a degree of specialization or excellence in a certain field, they are honed into that field.

Each operative, however, knows the basics and some advancements into every other field. Also, each operative is required to know medical procedures.

All Initiative trainees are "qualified" in HALO and HAHO jumping, and previous skills, such as scuba diving, are further refined during training.

In order to become a full fledged "operative" of the Initiative, a trainee must pass a navigational course, a shooting test with several diverse firearms, a hostage situation test, they must excell in the "killhouse", as well as other tests.

As for physical training, each trainee is put to the level. You must do a fifty yard inverted crawl in thirty five seconds, forty situps in one minute, and thirty five pushups in one minute. Also, a trainee must complete a run, dodge, and jump (RDJ) course in twenty five seconds. Other training courses include a two-mile run in just sixteen minutes, and a 100-meter swim while fully clothed (in standard uniform) and wearing combat boots.

Map of Killhouse:

Image of Trainees in Killhouse Operations:

The Nav. Course
The Navigational Course is feared by many. You get a map and a compass, nothing else. Usually the elements are against you. It rains, snows, hails, anything is possible.

With your equipment (if you wish to call it that) you are dropped off at a point in the "middle of nowhere." A point is circled on the map, roughly six to eight miles away. You must reach that point as soon as you can.

This is the test of survival as well as navigational skills. With no food and only two items, your body is pushed to the limits. Granted, you could eat the leaves or anything else around you. But we sure hope you know your nature (another test), because it is rumoured some of the plants are hazardous to your health.

There are "rendezvous points" throughout the course. When you reach the place on that map, a soldier tells you the Longitude & Latitude of another point. Most soldiers do not expect this. A time limit is in place, with you having 24 hours to reach the final point.

The "Quiz"
After you complete the training, you are brought back "home" to the Fort or Base you are currently stationed to undergo training at. The trainee is sat down in a chair across from five boardmen of the Special Operations Forces Committee (SOFC).

The SOFC boardmembers will ask you a series of diverse questions. They are not looking for the "right answer" per se, but instead to find individuals who can not only work in a team but can also handle themselves individually and without specific orders. They look for the trainee's values and how they handle themselves in this situation.

The number of questions is randomized, and they are not written down. The boardmembers simply ask questions they think will play a role in the person's opinion, not fact.

Some Missions
This section will detail some of the Centurion Initiative's top secret missions. All of this is top, top, uber secret, Secret IC.

Death to the Communists
In June of 2004, during the "Hunt for Cartingham" (see The Phorian Independence War), a faction group of Communist terrorists spawned. Calling themselves "Red Remorse", the terrorists captured an embassy in downtown Witzgall.

The Initiative was called upon, under the disguise that they were a standard SWAT unit. Using utmost secrecy and dressed in standard "Special Weapons And Tactics" clothing and using standard weaponry, the Initiative operatives stormed the embassy. Using a helicopter drop onto the roof of the building, the operatives quickly took haste into rescuing the hostages.

Two of the ambassadors were injured by the terrorists, but nobody was dead. The terrorists, poorly equipped (having only Polish made AK-47s), greatly outnumbered, and not expecting an assault, quickly lost men and accepted defeat.

The "Red Remorse" was routed out by the Initiative for a month before they were declared "extinct" and all were in prison or dead. Nobody has heard of them since.

The Phorian Independence War
On April 18th, 2004, Phoria (now an empirate state) declared war upon Witzgall in order for it to become an Independent State from the Empire. It failed, mainly because of the role the Initiative played.

After massive bombing runs devestated Phoria's capitol, the elected president of Phoria (John Cartingham) fled from Phoria and hid in political refuge in a different empirate state.

The Witzgallian National Army invaded Phoria, and slaughtered all resistance. The Centurion Initiative, however, continued searching for Cartingham.

On October 24th, 2004, Cartingham was discovered in The New Crimson Sun, a rogue nation of the Empire. The Initiative moved swiftly and stealthily beyond the nation's borders, and infiltrated the government's political ring.

On the 27th, Cartingham drown under suspicious circumstances in his pool. His bodyguards were missing, which added even more suspicion to the death of the ex-president.

Officials inside the Empire's government deny any activity by the Initiative, stating that it has been dismantled for the past three years. The little evidence left shows a conspiracy, but there is no sound proof.

Plot to Kill Fuhrer Matthew IV
Three weeks after the ex-Fuhrer of Witzgall came to the "throne", Matthew IV was pronounced dead after a carbomb incident.

Him and two of his bodyguards died when, according to the associated press, a C4 explosive hidden in the trunk went off when the car's brakes were hit. The car exploded into shreds (roughly 18 pounds of C4 was used), killing the three men. A civilian nearby was injured when a piece of the hood of the car hit him in the chest and almost impaled him.

The "Black Eagles", as the press refers to the Initiative as, was reported to have been responsible, but there is total denial by the government. They even denied the existance of such a group.

The death of Matthew IV is long clouded in blood, with no witnesses (the injured man later died of unexplainable causes) surviving.

Vehicular Assets
In the world of the Special Forces, vehicles are very useful in many different situations. Whether it be insertion, extraction, or used to lay down suppression fire, a vehicle usually has a use.

The main vehicles used by the Centurion Initiative is the MH-60G Pave Hawk, a general update on the MH-60 Enhanced Black Hawk. The MH-60G is also used by the current American military and Special Forces.

Another aeronautical asset to the Initiative is the MH-53M Pave Low IV, which is very useful in insertion (by flexible ladder of fast-rope), or extraction (STABO technique can be used.) The main helicopter used by the Centurion Initiative is the enhanced version of the Pave Low IV, because of its flexible mission uses.

For stealthier insertions/extractions, and when only a small group of "Centurions" is needed, the Little Bird and its variants can be used. These little "choppers" are very useful to the Initiative.

For heavy suppression fire, a Gunship (preferably the AC-130 Specter) is used. These are wonderful for taking out buildings or enemy forces by the mass, or even for smaller groupings.

The MC-130/HC-130 Combat Talon and Combat Shadow, also used by the US Special Forces, is a great aircraft and valuable asset to the Centurion Initiative. Wonderful for night infiltration, exfiltration, aerial reconnaissance, and other missions, the MC/HC-130 is of great use to the Initiative.

On the ground, APCs (Armored Personnel Carriers) are also of great use and importance. Providing agile and protective transportation, these vehicles are very useful to the Initiative and its operatives.

An LAV (Light Armored Vehicle) is also useful on the ground, for logistics, recovery, and other important roles. Light Strike Vehicles, basically armed go-karts to some, are very agile, fast, and flexibly-used vehicles in the world of Special Operation Forces. An AAAV (Advanced Amphibian Assault Vehicle) also has its importance in the Initiative.

Sticking with what works, the A-10 "Warthog" is a prime example of an old model that the Initiative uses to this day. Its main use being infiltration and suppression of defenses, the Warthog is a great aircraft to call upon in the time of need.

OOC--Only to say that you might want to add a probation period to the training section. After most RL special forces operatives are finished with their training and assigned to an operational unit, they are assigned on a probationary status for approximately a year. Any mistake, either operationally or personally, can result in reassignment back to a regular line unit, regardless of regular military judicial procedure.

Also, though you say that each trainee refines his/her insertion training after certification in HALO, HAHO, and SCUBA, you don't say how you organize your units. I'd suggest giving more thought to how many troops you have as airborne, naval, and combination.

(SEALs as an example of an SF unit dedicated to multiple insertion techniques at a cost to combat effectiveness, SAS/SBS as an example of the Brit model of specialization in insertion technique to allow for (argumentably) better combat skills.)

Otherwise, I look forward to trying my damnedest to stay on the friendly side of your SF forces.

Any mistake, either operationally or personally, can result in reassignment back to a regular line unit, regardless of regular military judicial procedure.

They have a probation period, and if they screw up they get a court martial or a preliminary hearing. If found not guilty, depending on the situation, they go through training for 3 additional months, and are put on "probation" for upwards of 5 months.

Also, though you say that each trainee refines his/her insertion training after certification in HALO, HAHO, and SCUBA, you don't say how you organize your units. I'd suggest giving more thought to how many troops you have as airborne, naval, and combination.

They are trained as a whole, each operative knows the basics of another group. The Centurion Initiative is our major Special Operations Force, and all are trained in every field until the importance is stressed enough.

(SEALs as an example of an SF unit dedicated to multiple insertion techniques at a cost to combat effectiveness, SAS/SBS as an example of the Brit model of specialization in insertion technique to allow for (argumentably) better combat skills.)

I hope you do stay on the friendly side. Also, each "trooper" is determined to have a specialization in one or another type of insertion. Once we figure out what the speciality is, whether it be by physical or psychological tests, we have them hone the skills needed for them to be near-perfect in that particular field.

I'm glad your staying on the "good side." It would be quite interesting for a SoF wargame...maybe we could think of something? Perhaps joint training or contests (in RP form, of course)?

You might want to add or modify your navigation (orienteering) course. Here´s what SAS does. You must memorize the coordinates, you may not write them down. You may not fold the map open, so that the area where you operate/are meant to operate is shown. No markings or notes on the map.

This practice is carried over to Rubberduckistan´s Spetzalnaya Radzvechka
Gruppa (Special Reconnaissance Groups). Adds a bit more to course.

Well, usually when the operative gets to that 6-8 mile area, the fun part is the soldier there gives him the latitude and longitude of another rendezvous point. There's usually 3-4 points that the trainee must go through in order to complete the Nav. Course.

The OICW is a wonderful weapon. We do teach our trainees with a large variety of weapons, including the XM-29 OICW, but they tend to like the XM8 and AR-33.

And, FYI, its a 20mm "grenade" (HE round)
