International Red Cross Organization

OOC:
Hello,

I've noticed that several times every month that a player starts an open or semi-open roleplay centering around a natural disaster in his / her home country(ies).

For the past year a series of NS UN resolutions have slowly addressed the subject of humanitarian aid and the creation of a UN based "International Red Cross Organization". Like the real world International Committee of the Red Cross, I've always assumed that the UN created IRCO is a coordinating agency responsible for putting national level Red Cross Chapters in touch with each other and responding to regional and global (perhaps even SciFi) disasters (natural and man-made).

In any event, I've started work on an off-site forum called the "United Nations Organizations" which is a clearing house for all NS UN spawned committees. The UN Sapce Consortium is fairly active there, and I'd like to encourage greater roleplaying with respect to the International Red Cross Organization.

http://s3.invisionfree.com/UN_Organizations

Recently I've taken the existence of this forum to the attention of a few of the feeder regions and will continue to work to:

- Recruit new nations to provide humanitarian aid,
- Look for open roleplay where players wouldn't mind a few well meaning newbies coming in and dropping food, blood, water, and blankets! :)
- Look for a few experienced roleplayers to help maintain a bit of continuity with the IRCO and various roleplayed events
- Network with a few NS News Agencies ... afterall, these events should be newsworthy

I hope in the coming months to try and establish the Red Cross Organizations as a good way for players to ask for help without having to constantly struggle to keep their threads at the top of the II queue. :)

Thanks!

Nice board. I am going to read further into it tomorrow when I have some time. Its a good idea considering some of the destruction going on as of late around NS. I can't help but wonder thought what happens when you send in aide in the form of men and material and some fanatic organization attacks the aide workers? I had sent aide to a nation that had a terrorist attack and in turn my aide workers met their untimely demise.

That is the risk.

In the situation in the Ottoman Empire, my government first asked that government if they'd agree to follow the provisions of the UN resolutions related to the IRCO, which do afford some legal protections to international disaster relief personnel. (I've started outlining the legislative history of the NS IRCO on the board. After New Years I'll add a few more resolutions and anlyses.)

It is also possible, when the risk is great, to provide aid via third parties.

But in the real world, there have been numerous situations where aid groups have completely withdrawn from a region on a temporary basis because of the danger posed to the responders. :( Iraq is the perfect example of this.

If nations want, I'll start a stickied thread in the IRCO section about NS humanitarian aid contacts (i.e. players that welcome requests for aid). :)

This is perfect! :)

Though the UN created Red Cross Organization is in theory only around for UN members, and was created by UN members, I'd suggest that there be multiple agencies.

So this is what I've done ...

Just another update on the International Red Cross Organization ...

I've started a list of disasters the IRCO has responded to.

If your nation has a natural disaster, please feel to visit the IRCO forum on the UN Organizations board and request help. If you also provide a list of areas impacted and estimated populations impacted, the IRCO can better serve your people.

I'm not sure if the lack of nations signing up is due to high turnover or a lack of interest, but in either case I figured I'd refresh this. :)

All I'm really fishing for is a list of nations that don't mind their names being used as nations that donate humanitarian and disaster relief aid. If you want we can add your contact info, that way if somebody has a disaster they can telegram you if they so wish.

Could be fun! :)

OOC: You can put me down as a nation donating aid and relief. My own Red Cross (see sig) does it so often I've lost track of half the things they've done...

Cool.

I've added the MRC, but still need to add your government:

Please correct me if I'd listed the locations wrong. Also if you see a call for a natural disaster, don't hestitate to flag it. I don't check in this forum that often.

The Lunatic Retard Robots RPed for quite some time as a humanitarian-aid / nation. I'm not sure if he's still around but he was quite successful at it - even jumping in as a neutral party on war RPs. Might be worth some research to see how he operated.

Hello everybody.

I have to say that, with the prevelance of Roach-Busters and DA and those guys around, I have largely stayed out of modern-tech RP in the mainstream.

However, I could definately draw from the massive coffers of the government and come up with some monetary aid.

OOC: Just letting players know that the Red Cross is still around, and always looking for more players. The basic idea is that if you have a roleplay and would like a random mix of others to RP humanitarian aid, you can ask the Red Cross to come in. Then nations in the Red Cross will talk to one another and join in the RP. Could make things interesting! :)

Right now, the Red Cross has a minor presence in the thread about Neo Tyr and also is looking for RPers for the UN World Donor Organ Centre.

The following is a list of all the known non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and government sponsored humanitarian aid groups. Certain groups are better equipped for various situations (as noted when possible). Inquires for aid can be made by either contacting these groups directly or asking the International Red Cross Organization's Networking Center to put in the request for your nation.

If your group would like to be added to this list, just post here.

UN IRCO (http://s3.invisionfree.com/UN_Organizations/index.php?act=SC&c=6)

While I do sympathize with regions losing established member countries, I also must say I've had quite a bit of fun roleplaying responding to the disasters of governments going 'poof' in the middle of the IDU.
