Cader Idris

Following discussions at the Derwen Council earlier this month, the High-Senate announced plans to dissolve their country’s armed forces, despite the continuing threat of international terrorism.
The Cader Idris military currently numbers at around 50,000 soldiers, with a further 25,000 working in naval and air force divisions. With the changes proposed, all of those concerned would receive due compensation and full military honours, with retraining to be provided at the expense of the Senate. Although the councillors acknowledge that the initial cost of this endeavour will be high, they remain optimistic that the ideals of peace are worth the financial sacrifice.
With no regular military in place, it is planned to establish small divisions of regional Yeomanry to be charged with upholding civic order and the defence of the Caderlands. A reserve of 4,000 militia is also to be maintained, in the event that any additional homeland protection should be required. In addition, the ancient traditions of the mounted cavalry will be preserved with a 500 strong regiment to be kept for state ceremonial use.
The Cader Idris nuclear program – as instigated by the previous Council – has also been suspended, effective immediately. All ongoing experiments are to be discontinued, with research to be catalogued at the Ynys Witrin library of science and technology.
Ceinwyn Morgana, Steward-Empress of the Free Land of Cader Idris, released the following press statement earlier today: “‘Peace will not come out of a clash of arms but out of justice lived and done by unarmed nations in the face of odds.’ We hope that by disbanding our military in this fashion, we can prove that Cader Idris is wholly committed to the ideal of long-lasting international peace.”
Opposition leader Bedwyn Tewdric, however, had a slightly less optimistic view: “With the state of international politics as it is, an effective military is needed now more desperately than ever. By removing our nations armed forces, the High-Senate have placed their countrymen at the mercy of warlords and terrorists. This is just yet another example of the lunacy that has prevailed since Morgana was elected as Steward-Empress.”
The Cader-Marshal – highest ranking military officer in Cader Idris – has yet to issue a statement.
